Three

Allison's POV:

"What are they saying?" I ask Malia as the five of us leaned against Stiles' jeep, watching as Araya spoke to Scott.

"She's letting us go, but once Scott gives the bite to someone else...let's just say we won't have an Alpha anymore." She crossed her arms. "But they knew the whole time that the Kate chick was the one who took Derek."

Araya walks away from Scott and he turns to head towards our direction, causing Stiles to get off of the car.

"So, what now?" Stiles asks as he shoved his hands in his pockets.

"She thinks she knows where we can find Derek," Scott said with a small shrug.

Malia furrowed her eyebrows. "Is she gonna tell us where?"

"Uh, actually, she's giving us a guide."

Before one of us could ask more questions, the rumble of a motorcycle goes off in the distance which causes all of us to turn towards the noise.

The motorcyclist that wore black leather attire drives their bike towards us, causing Stiles to jump back since he was in the middle of the street.

The woman pulls off her helmet at ease, revealing the four long scars that trailed along her cheek to down her throat, but I recognized who she was.

This was the same girl last year who somewhat helped Olivia and I find where Boyd and Erica were. We never got her name since she took off after seeing the twins were in the school.

Stiles pointed to her. "Do you know her?"

"Braeden," Scott muttered. "she's a mercenary."

"Right now, I'm the only one who's gonna take you to la Iglesia," Braeden says, looking over to the five of us.

"The church?" Lydia asked.

"What's the church?" I hesitantly ask.

"It's not a place you'll find God." She puts her helmet back on and we take that as our cue to get inside the jeep.

Malia, Kira, Lydia, and I squeezed ourselves in the back seat while the boys took the front until finally, Stiles drove the car to follow behind Braeden.

Malia leans her head forward to stick between Scott and Stiles. "Okay, I'll ask. Who's Kate?"

I froze at the mention of her name, but I kept my stares straight ahead. I didn't want to make it seem like the name bothered me.

"Uh, actually—" Kira nervously spoke. "I'd like to know too."

"Well, the three of us were at her funeral." Stiles gestures to him, Scott, and I. "I'd like to know how she got out of a casket that was buried six feet underground."

"She was never in it." Scott responded and I look away from the road, knowing that I had to talk about it with Kira and Malia since they were technically new.

"Kate Argent," I clear my throat, feeling their stares at me as I look down to fiddle with my fingers. "she was my aunt."

"You don't have to talk about it now if you don't want to." Kira assured and I give her a sad smile.

"Um, yes, they do." Malia quickly says.

"Malia." Lydia scolds from beside me.

"No, she's right." I look up to meet their stares. "You guys deserve to know."

"Kate was the one who set the fire that killed most of Derek's family." Stiles starts off for me.

"Some of them survived, like Derek's little sister Cora and Peter." I list off.

"A very angry Peter," Lydia added with a scoff.

"Yeah," Scott breathed out. "he's the one who bit and turned me.

"He was the person who...ended up being the one to kill her," Stiles hesitantly spoke and I instantly remembered the blood splatter on the walls.

"And we saw her buried." I added.

"No. We saw a casket, remember? She wasn't in it." Scott shook his head. "The Calaveras heard that Kate had been killed by an Alpha's claws. They wanted to make sure she was really dead. Her body was...healing. More and more, as she got closer to a full moon. She was coming back. So, they switched out the bodies and took her."

"Our family has this sort of code where if a hunter gets bit, they have to take their own life before they change," I explain. "The way the Calaveras run things, I'm pretty sure they treat the code like law and make it their responsibility to enforce it."

Malia scoffed. "Good for her. I wouldn't do it either."

"Would you kill half a dozen people to get out? Because that's what she did." Scott responded.

"So," Kira trailed. "Kate's a werewolf now?"

"I don't know." Scott shrugged. "You know, there's a saying. Sometimes the shape you take reflects the person you are."

Lydia scoffed. "What kind of shape is sociopathic bitch?" She glanced to me with a sympathetic expression. "Sorry."

"It's oka—"

A loud bang cuts me off, causing Lydia's body to slam into mine as the jeep shook violently at the sharp turn. Stiles quickly pulls the car over until we get to a complete stop so we would all get out of the car.

Braeden drives her bike towards us until she stops and tugs off her helmet. "What happened?"

"I don't know," Stiles responded as him and Scott check his tires. "it felt like we hit something."

"Scott, we need to get there by night. It's too dangerous otherwise."

Scott looks between us and Braeden, debating both of his options.

I gestured to the bike. "Go."

"Not without you guys." Scott looks over to all of us.

"Dude, someone needs to find Derek. We'll figure something out. We always do, just go." The rest of us nod our heads of assurance as he looks over our way.

Kira embraces him into a hug. "Just be careful...please." She added.

As they had their moment of exchanging a few more words, Scott runs over to get on Braeden's bike then sped off further down the road until we couldn't see them anymore.

I place my hand on her shoulder. "He'll be okay, don't worry," I say to and she nodded with a small smile.

"Guys, I don't think we hit something," Malia calls out, causing all of us to turn and see she crouched down to the tires level. "I think something hit us."

She shows a large bone-shaped claw which causes my eyes to widen at the sight.

Whatever hit us, it definitely didn't want us to continue down the road.

"Maybe we should just walk." Lydia offered with a bored expression as she leaned against the side of the jeep.

I twiddled my fingers with the Chinese ring daggers beside her, every now and then look around our surroundings to keep watch.

"Hey," Stiles' voice muffled due to the screwdriver in his mouth and quickly pulls it out. "I will never abandon this jeep. You understand me? Ever. Ever."

"I knew I should've brought my car," I shook my head with disbelief. "but someone wanted me to save my gas."

"Well excuse me for wanting to save you money. Gas isn't cheap, you know!"

"Work faster, Stiles," Malia spoke up as she looked around our surroundings. "There's something out here with us."

Time seemed to go by quickly since it got dark, causing Kira to get her katana from the trunk since Malia's comment sent us on edge.

Lydia held the flashlight for Stiles to continue working on his car while the rest of us kept watch.

"Lydia, could you please hold the light still for a second?" Stiles sighed in annoyance. "It's really hard to see anything if you keep shaking it like that."

"I'm shaking it like this because we're in the middle of nowhere with your broken down jeep and we're being attacked by yet another razor-clawed monster...and I'm terrified." She slightly raised her voice.

"Well, just be slightly less terrified!"

"Can you guys stop arguing like some old married couple." I groan, feeling a headache starting to form. "Just fix the car."

"We're not an old married couple. Allison, you know what?" He twists one of the pieces off from the car and hands it to me. "Here's a present from me, your grandpa."

I slowly take it and narrow my eyes to him. "What the hell is this?"

He shrugs. "I don't know. I'm hoping it's not important."

I roll my eyes and hand the object to Lydia before I walk over to stand next to Malia and Kira who stood in front of the car.

"You guys find anything?" I ask but Kira shook her head. "Neither did I."

"I don't blame you. It's too hard to see." Malia shrugged. "We should've brought another flashlight."

I watch as Kira walks back in front of the jeep's headlights and holds her sword in front, shining a brighter light that gleamed off the blade.

I look forward again and just in time, I saw a slight bit of movement in the distance near the boulder. "Woah, did you see that?"

Malia growls from beside me and takes off into a full-on sprint towards...well whatever that thing was.

"Malia wait!" Kira calls and quickly chases after her.

"Hey, Malia!" Stiles called out.

I was about to follow, but Lydia grabs my arm. "Nope! You and Stiles are staying here." She scolds, dragging me closer to the car. "Stiles, focus and fix the jeep. Allison, we need someone here just in case we get attacked."

"I hate that you're right." I groan and clutch on the daggers in my hand as Stiles continued to screw the bolts back onto the engine.

"Okay, okay." Stiles hops out from his car's hood and quickly runs over to the driver's side. "I think I got it."

The engine somehow revs to life and I sigh in relief, shoving the daggers back in its sleeves. Lydia and I quickly get into the car and luckily, Malia and Kira ran back to us in time.

Malia immediately hopped in the front seat with Stiles while the rest of us sat in the back. He quickly speeds off in the same road Braeden and Scott had taken earlier to La Iglesia.

"You...you please. Don't do that ever again!" Stiles panted as he pointed to Malia.

"Do what?" She bluntly asked.

I share a look with Kira and Lydia, feeling the awkward tension rise.

"I thought you just took off. You were running."

"I was running."

"No, I mean," He sighed. "like, I thought you were leaving."

She immediately shook her head. "I wouldn't leave without you."

"Really?"

"Yeah, I would never leave without you." She assured and looks behind to the three of us in the back. "Them I would leave."

"Not surprised," Lydia muttered.

Stiles momentarily looks behind before facing the road. "It's progress."

I glance down to Malia's side, noticing the deep bloody gash. "That thing, it got you?"

"It's okay, I'm fine." She shrugged casually.

"Are you sure? It looks deep." Kira added from beside me.

"Yeah, I can feel it healing." Malia shifts around in the chair.

"You didn't see anything?" Lydia inquired, looking between Kira and Malia.

"Barely." Malia shook her head. "It had a strong and weird scent."

"Like what?" Stiles questioned, still keeping his eyes trained on the road.

"Like...death but with a bit of smoke."

Stiles carefully maneuvers his car around the deserted town until we reached the church ruin that was surprisingly still left standing where Braeden and Scott were.

When we reach the front of the site, Scott and Braeden step out from inside and they lugged what seemed like Derek, but his head was tipped forward so I couldn't exactly see his face.

All of us quickly gets out of the vehicle and rush towards them. However, with the stressed looks on their faces, I knew something went wrong.

Derek finally lifts his head with a confused expression, but my eyes widen in shock at the fact this definitely was him...but not exactly the same guy we knew.

To be specific, it was a teenage boy that was younger than all of us.

"What the..." I breathe out, frantically looking between Scott and the teenage boy.

"Is that him?" Malia questioned Stiles, who had his mouth agape. "Is that Derek?"

"Uh..." He gulped. "sort of?"
