Chapter 1

You swung your sword, easily getting to the soft, weak flesh beneath the thick fur. The wolf, howling in pain from the blow, ran off, leaving a trail of blood in its wake. Smiling with satisfaction, you relaxed from your fighting stance, pushing your (h/c) hair from your face.

Turning your gaze you noticed your companions, Fionna and Cake, finishing off the pack leader, "Was that the last of them?" you called back, attempting to get their attention.

"And you better not come back," Cake hissed, her back arching and her tail bristling, "no one messes with my babies!"

"Yeah," Fionna turned to you, breathing heavily, clearly exhausted from the previous battle, "that's all of them."

You sighed with relief, sheathing your slightly bloodied sword, making a mental note to clean it later, "Good! We should report back to Prince Gumball then, huh?"

Fionna's usual stoic composure faltered, being replaced by a girlish blush, "Oh, right..."

You shared a knowing glance with Cake before she stretched out her body in order to carry the two of you, "Let's go, babies!"

Sharing a jovial laugh together, you hopped onto Cake's back, merrily telling jokes and recounting stories on your way to the Candy Kingdom.

"Do you remember Prince Gumball's party?" you asked, recalling a past memory.

"Of course," Fionna answered, glancing back at you, "how could we forget? It was the day we first met."

Three months ago, Prince Gumball had thrown a party to celebrate the extended period of peace in the Candy Kingdom. People from all over Aaa had attended, so you saw this as an opportunity to meet new people, specifically ones looking for an aspiring adventurer.

"Remember when the Ice Queen showed up?" Cake laughed, "That woman is mad obsessed with Prince Gumball! Maybe even more obsessed than you, Fionna."

The young warrior bristled at that comment, her face burning a brighter crimson, "I am not obsessed!"

You laughed as they bantered back and forth while your mind drifted back to the memory. Prince Gumball was just about to give a speech when the Ice Queen suddenly burst through the wall. She screamed about how she had come for the Prince and how no one would be able to stop her. Before she could even take a step towards the Prince, however, she was knocked to the side by what appeared to be a brown and white cat. You watched on in amazement as the cat's fluffed up tail expanded and sharpened at the tip, creating the appearance of a mace. A young girl wearing blue clothing stood next to her, a white hat that covered everything but her face and small strand of blonde hair adorned her head. From her green backpack she drew a sword, lowering herself into a fighting stance.

"Though," Fionna started, breaking you out of your thoughts, she looked back at you, her gaze darkening, "we didn't even stand a chance. The Ice Queen caught us off-guard. If you hadn't stepped in, we'd be goners for sure."

Cake nodded in agreement, causing a small smile to form on your face. You were proud of your actions that day. The battle between the Ice Queen and the two adventurers seemed to last forever, but it was clear that the Ice Queen was winning. Both adventurers stopped, unable to summon the strength to fight anymore, and glared up at their approaching foe. Seeing the danger of the situation, you knew you had to act fast. Your hand tightened nervously around the only weapon you owned. Carefully, you snuck around the Ice Queen while she was gloating over her victory and, just before she was about to strike the exhausted adventurers, you whacked her over the head with a frying pan, knocking her out cold.

"I still can't believe you just knocked her out!" Fionna laughed, nudging you a bit and getting a small chuckle out of you.

"Yeah, I can't believe it either," you rubbed the back of your head, starting to get a bit embarrassed with the attention you were receiving, though you still couldn't help but smile at the memory of how you met your two friends. Ever since that night, you three had done everything together as you learned how to better yourself as an adventurer. They had taken you under their wing, and for that, you will always be grateful.

"We're here," Cake announced, finally snapping you from your nostalgia and returning your attention to the task at hand.

You and Fionna jumped off of Cake's back once you entered the throne room to bow before the Prince. He stood a distance away from you and waved his pink hand to indicate that the three of you could rise from your bowing. Normally, he would protest against such formalities between the three adventurers whom he felt were good friends, but he knew that Fionna would never hear of it, she was much too respectful.

"So, I take it the wolves have been dealt with then?" Gumball's regal voice echoed through the throne room.

Fionna nodded, "You won't hear from them again."

Gumball smiled, "Good, you have no idea how much of a headache they have been giving me lately."

All of them shared a small chuckle, unaware of the uninvited guest that hovered far above them. His red eyes glowed, watching the scene below with mild interest before Gumball spoke again, drawing in his full attention.

"There is another matter I would like you to attend to, while you're here, actually," Gumball sighed, mentally going through a whole list of problems that he needed to be solved. Unfortunately, many could not be fixed simply by driving off monsters.

"Yes?" Fionna's eyes brightened up a bit at the prospect of helping the Prince yet again. You smiled slightly at her excitement.

"I would like..." before Gumball could ever finish what he was saying, a voice resonated through the room, cutting him off.

"Aw, guess I wasn't invited to this little get together," the voice feigned hurt, "I'm a bit offended, honestly."

You drew your sword, glancing around quickly, trying to pinpoint the location of the voice, "Who's there? Show yourself!"

The voice laughed at your demand, watching you from above with an amused grin. Without making a sound, he floated down behind you, trying to hold back a chuckle, he suddenly shouted, "Boo!"

Nearly jumping out of your skin, you whipped around, swinging at him furiously. He laughed as he dodged back, earning an infuriated growl out of you, "Marshall Lee."

"That's right, doll," he chuckled, booping your nose before you could swat at him. He laughed again, floating a bit away from you to stop you from swinging at him again.

You glared daggers at him, "What are you doing here?"

"Why, am I not allowed to say hi to a few of my good friends?" he tried, looking over at you innocently. Everyone in the room shot him a skeptical look, causing him to feign hurt again, "Ouch. Well, fine, I'm not here to say hi."

"Then what are you here for?" Gumball urged him, wanting him to state his business and leave as much as the others did. The tension between (y/n) and Marshall was starting to get uncomfortable for everyone.

"I'm actually here for one of you three," he gestured to the three adventurers, "because I have a mission."

You all stood there stunned for a moment, looking at the vampire with wide eyes. Gumball cleared his throat in an effort to compose himself as he prepared to speak. Before he could, however, he was interrupted yet again. The (h/c)-haired girl huffed, clenching her fists, "What makes you think we will help you?"

Marshall Lee smiled, moving closer to the fuming girl, "Because you are adventurers correct? Helping people and exploring things is kind of what you do, right?"

"No we-"

"So you're saying that you don't help people?" Marshall scoffed at her, "Kind of rude, don't you think?"

"Why you little!" you started moving towards him, readying to punch him square in the jaw, "I'm gonna-"

"(Y/n) will go with you," Fionna stated calmly, addressing the vampire.

"What?" both you and Marshall turned in unison, you in disbelief, while Marshall smiled victoriously.

"But," you started, wanting to do anything to get you out of spending time with him, "do I have to? There..."

"That is an order," Fionna stated, her voice firm and final.

You sighed, knowing that you couldn't refuse a direct order from Fionna. You glared over at the smirking male, growling at him angrily. His smug smile irked you, and you could only hope that this mission was over with soon.
