my main inspiration for this was the dramaturgical analysis theory by erwing goffman. the theory states that we are all essentially actors on a 'day to day stage' performing our roles and putting on a performance for our audience. i tried to convey this through the colors and the second part of the graphic. the outside of the subject is blue and has some meager amount of color in it while the subject itself is devoid of any color. the point i want to make in this graphic is that everyone shows themselves to appear colorful to the audience and put on their best performance, but really we're all just desaturated, struggling beings trying to make ends meet. the umbrella here acts as a way to show the viewer who the subject really is. 

 i picked this particular line from the song as it resonated with me and the ideas i had from the very first listen. roles and behavior expected from certain roles are a major part of sociology and is the basis for the dramaturgical analysis theory. at some point you become so saturated with the roles and tasks you need to fulfill that you forget who you actually were and what you were supposed to do.
