II
I sigh, rolling over on my side. I hadn't slept at all that night and I wasn't planning on going to sleep any time soon.
I get up and walk into my kitchen. I open the window above my sink to get Somme fresh air. I sigh and hang my head.
I should've known.
That's when I hear a voice. It was beautiful... Full of pain...
"I don't really care
You can keep
The things we used to share
But what did you do with my heart
What did you do with my heart."
I listen intently, smiling slightly.
"No more fireworks
No more compass
You didn't leave a single butterfly in my stomach
You took my spyglass
No knowing what lies ahead
Took my warmth at night
But left a dent in my bed."
I grab my jacket and hurry outside, trying to find the man. I look around and run around the back of my apartment.
I search the empty streets and only see a few people out for a late night stroll. I sigh and look around some more and finally find the person.
A man was sitting on his back step, playing his ukulele. I smile, seeing the light from the street lamp shine on his face, complementing his wonderful features.
He had pale skin and dark brown eyes. His hair was dyed purple and styled almost perfectly.
I swooned a small bit but I mentally slap myself.
You just broke up with your boyfriend and now your falling for the next guy you see? That's gotta be unhealthy.
I pull myself from my rambling thoughts and walk closer, smiling slightly.
"H-hello!" I say, once I get close enough.
The man jumps in surprise and brings the ukulele up like a bat. "Who's there?!" He asks.
I raise my hands in defeat. "Hey, hey. There's no need for weapons." I say, chuckling. "You have a great voice."
"Oh, thanks... Are you a fan?" He asks. I raise an eyebrow.
"What?"
"I'll take that as a no, then. Well, I have a YouTube channel and I just thought you were a fan." He says, bringing the ukulele down. I shake my head. "No. I just heard you singing and I had to comes down here to hear it better." I say, smiling.
"Hey, I'm sorry if I seemed like a stalker. I just wanted to know who was the owner of that amazing voice, so..." I smile and shrug.
"Hey, its fine! I, uh... I like you hair!" He says, laughing.
I had dyed my hair pastel purple a while back but right now, it was sloppy and partially hidden by my favorite hat. I blush slightly and scowl at myself.
"Thanks... Hey, um... Meet me at the park down the street? Tomorrow? Just to talk and be friends? I promise, I won't kidnap you." I say, laughing.
The man nods and I smile. "Yeah, that sounds great." His voice was soft and smooth. My heart pounds in my ears and my fingers start to tingle. I've... never felt like this.
Its weird.
I shake myself out of my thoughts and smile. "Okay! I'll, uh, see you there." I turn away and start walking away but I stop and turn back.
"Hey... I never caught your name."
"Thomas... And you?"
"Thomas." I whisper. "I'm James... But you can call me Jamie." I smile.
I swear, I hear him whisper my name as well but I ignore it. "Well, bye..." I smile and walk away. And as soon as I walk around a corner so he can't see me, I almost collapse but I lean against the wall. I shake my head and chuckle, walking back to my small apartment.
I walk into the living room and fall onto my couch, clutching my chest.
Thomas.
Thomas..
Thomas...
