Untitled Part 13
I don't own marvel.
Nothing had been the same after Ultron's defeat. Tony had decided he was going to settle down for a while and had made a comment about building Pepper a farm. Thor had spent the last few months fighting off creatures in the different realms and had just recently returned from taking down Surtur. Syndra sighed as she looked up to the sky and frowned. The last thing Tony had done for her was create the armor and corrective lenses for her eyes. She could now see everything in perfect vision, even in the sunlight. He would never truly understand how grateful she was for him creating them for her.
She looked down at her green and gold armor and she smiled. She matched Loki's armor to an extent, but it was fitted just for her. she turned to face Loki and he offered her a small smile as he continued speaking with Thor. They were returning to Asgard today, something didn't seem right with Odin, seeing as the realms had fallen into chaos in Thor's absence. She looked over to Loki, who seemed concerned with this news. He seemed to know something that he didn't want to disclose while she was around, so he stepped off to the side with Thor so she couldn't hear them.
She wasn't concerned with the bout of secrecy; she knew the brothers had things they needed to discuss without her being involved. She looked off to the sky and smiled, fluffy gray clouds littered the sky signaling the oncoming rain. She wished she could sit in the Stark tower and watch the rain just once more before she left. It was always a sight to behold during severe thunderstorms. That was one thing she loved about Midgard, the rain. They didn't have rain on Svartalfheim, just darkness and everlasting despair, that was why her mother pleaded with the frost giants for sanctuary. Turns out that place wasn't much better.
She looked back to the brothers who had called out to her and she smiled as Loki offered her his hand. He did not smile back, but that was to be expected as Thor wasn't smiling right now either. She knew they were expecting a fight when they got to Asgard. She had her suspicions of what was going on, but she was going to keep them to herself as she prepared for a fight as well. Thor held up Mjolnir and a beam of light shined down on them, pulling them up to Asgard. She looked at Loki's hand that hadn't released hers, but instead held hers tighter.
They landed in the Bifrost and saw that someone else was running it. She wondered where Heimdall was, but that question was soon answered as the man running the Bifrost explained he had taken off before his trial. She had met him once before in illusion form and she was sad that he had felt the need to run. Heimdall was a good man in her eyes, he felt he was only doing what was right. Loki had released her hand sometime before they arrived and he was looking over to the man, who called himself Skurge in confusion.
Skurge's eyes landed on her and he pulled a sword almost immediately. He seemed to realize immediately she wasn't Asgardian. What they didn't know, was she had been secretly perfecting her Dark elf bloodline traits. They knew all about her gifted intellect, but what they didn't know about was her stamina, speed, flexibility, and endurance. She had slowly been improving upon those while training with Stark. The moment Skurge's blade came down on her his weapon skittered across the floor and both of her daggers were at his throat.
Loki smirked at her and rocked his head in an impressed manner. Ever since her last fight with the Winter Soldier, she had been trying her best to get better with her fighting style. The man held his hands up in surrender and she slipped her blades back into their holsters. The man smirked at her and offered her a hand, which she took and shook it softly. "Syndra." She greeted and he repeated his name to her, only to then add on to it. "Beautiful and dangerous, that's my kind of woman." He said and she just stared at him blankly as Thor tossed an arm over his shoulder with an amused smile.
"Stay away from that one, she's got dibs called on her my friend." Thor said and before Skurge could even ask who, Loki had his dagger very gently pressed into the man's back with a calm look on his features. "You would do well to listen to him." Loki said softly, a smile crossing his lips as he patted the man on the shoulder, slipping his dagger back up his sleeve. Skurge held up both hands in defeat and nodded. Syndra turned back towards the Bifrost bridge and sighed as she stepped out onto it.
Skurge seemed to snap out of his stupor and took off after the trio, yelling something about having to announce their arrival, but they had latched onto Thor and took off. When they landed before Odin he was sipping wine sitting on the throne. The moment Loki and Syndra were spotted though, the façade dropped and Sigyn was sitting there. She crossed one leg over the other and swirled the wine around in her glass. "I've been waiting on you." She said and Syndra frowned at the woman while Thor began asking where Odin really was. She seemed unbothered by Thor's questions; she was only interested in Syndra.
"I challenge you to a duel, Syndra. You must fight me for the right to be loved by Loki." She said not once moving from the throne. Instead, she just continued to sip her wine and watch Syndra from over the rim of her glass. Syndra didn't want to fight the woman anymore. She saw no need to fight the woman anymore, judging by the fact Loki was with her every second of every day. This wasn't going to stop the scorned woman though. She was going to have to fight her and she knew it. She wasn't going to kill her though.
Syndra swiped her blades out of their holsters and lunged for Sigyn. The clashing of their weapons was the only sound heard as they met in the center of the room. Loki and Thor tried to butt in, but Syndra shot them a look that said to stay back. They didn't seem to want to, but they obeyed her look. Syndra had significantly improved in her fighting, which is something Sigyn was not aware of. She snaked her leg around behind Sigyn's and sent the woman sprawling backwards. Syndra took this chance to swipe down at her, but sigyn rolled out of the way and to her feet.
Sigyn pulled daggers and it became a flurry of sparks as they repeatedly clashed until both sets were thrown across the room. Syndra held both hands out in front of her and waited for Sigyn to attack and she didn't have to wait long as the woman sent a punch towards her face, which she dodged and wrapped herself around the taller woman's arm. Her legs wrapped around Sigyn's neck and she used the momentum to throw the woman to the floor.
She tightened her grip around Sigyn's neck, only for the woman to grab her dagger and stab her in the leg with it. Syndra cried out in pain as she released the other woman and ripped the blade from her leg. She spun the dagger in her grasp and threw it immediately at the other woman, slashing across her cheek before they rushed each other once more. This went on for almost thirty more minutes until both women were glaring at one another from their respective sides of the room. They were evenly matched and Sigyn seemed to realize this now. Syndra panted as she fell to one knee and placed her hand over the wound that had continued to splatter the floor with her blood as they fought.
Sigyn summoned her spear and reared back to throw the spear. Before Syndra could even get to her feet, the weapon was within range of her. before she even knew what had happened the spear was gone and Sigyn was pinned to the throne by her own weapon. She looked up to see Loki standing before her from where he had thrown the weapon back at her. He stalked over to Sigyn and ripped the spear from her shoulder. "I'm ending this duel, that was a cheap shot." He snapped and Syndra's eyes went wide as she realized what had happened. Blood trickled to the floor down Loki's arm and she rushed over to him as he turned away from Sigyn.
The small iron dagger had been concealed beneath the spear and was meant to kill her. Sigyn knew about her inability to heal iron wounds...
Loki turned to face her and she carefully pulled the dagger from his forearm. He flinched slightly, but he still brushed his fingertips over her cheek and pressed his forehead against hers. "You should never have to fight for me." He said softly and turned back to face Sigyn. "And you should have never had to wed me because of my tricks. I've been hoping someone would love you in the ways I couldn't... Theoric still lives, Sigyn. I never harmed him. He lives in Vanaheim under a spell, go release him. He can love you, so please... Let me go." He said and Sigyn struggled to her feet, only to brush past them and run towards the Bifrost.
She slowed to a stop and turned to face them once more. "I put the old man under a spell on earth, in an old retirement home, suits the old bastard." Was all she said before she vanished from sight. Syndra looked around as the maids rushed in to clean up her mess and she rushed over to them to stop them, mindful not to let her wound make the mess worse. The medics were arguing with her, wanting her to sit back and let them help her leg but she was determined not to have the maids clean up after her. she grabbed their cleaning supplies and began mopping up the blood with the cloth they had brought.
She heard an amused chuckle and she turned to see Loki being tended to by the medics. He was watching her as she argued with the women telling them they need not worry about the mess. Her heart fluttered at the sight of him. He had jumped in front of her to protect her with no reasoning to other than he wanted to ensure her wellbeing. She couldn't help the smile that crossed her lips at this. He truly did care for her as much as she cared for him, this was a relief to her.
He seemed caught off guard by her smile and made his way over to her. He leaned down and brushed his lips over hers before he hugged her tightly. Her lip trembled and she gripped his coat tightly as the tears began to fall. He began brushing his fingers through her hair to comfort her and she couldn't handle that. Why was he so intent on comforting her when she was happy. It was finally over... their three year battle with Sigyn was finally over. She leaned back and he kissed away the tears that streaked down over her cheeks.
They had spent so long trying to figure things out and this was where they were now. She opened her mouth to speak and he pressed his lips to hers once more, cutting her off before she could even form the words. She deepened their kiss and he smiled against her lips. She pulled away and he only chuckled as he brushed his fingers over her cheeks once more. "Ah... three years and we are only just now figuring things out. For people with such high intellect, we sure are stupid." He managed and she laughed lightly. She had to agree with him there.
She looked over to see Thor talking with a large man who she had never seen before. "Heimdall, you remember Syndra." He said and the towering man nodded. She had heard of the man who saw everything, but she had never met him before. "I saw it when you were both in the prison." He said suddenly and Loki shot him an exasperated look, to which the man chuckled. He turned towards her and offered her a hand. She very carefully took his much larger hand and he bowed to her.
"A pleasure to finally meet you." He said and she nodded. It was nice to meet the man who had been keeping an eye on her for so long. She looked back to Loki and offered him a small smile, she knew he was going to leave, she could see it in his eyes. She looked over to Thor and saw the same look residing in his. "We have to leave, we have to go find father." Thor said and she nodded, she was fully prepared to go with them. She tightened the binding on her leg and slipped her daggers into their sheathes. She turned back to them and nodded, but they exchanged looks and shook their heads.
"We need you to stay here and protect the throne. Can't have it just sitting unattended." Thor said and she nodded. She didn't want to be left behind but she couldn't fight them on this either because she understood. The throne had been unattended long enough. She looked over to Faandal, Vorstagg, and Hogun who had just walked into the room. Thor nodded to them and began talking with them before he patted them on the shoulders and looked over to her.
"Something is coming but we don't know what, please... can you look after her?" he asked and they looked over to her and nodded. She was grateful for all the friends Thor had, each and every one of them was willing to protect her. from what she didn't know, but she was thankful, nonetheless. She looked over to Loki, who was speaking with the warriors three and she frowned. He seemed concerned, she could tell from the crease in his brow.
She made her way over to him and brushed her fingers over his sleeve gently. He turned to face her and once more he pressed his forehead against hers and whispered that same unintelligible phrase to her. She knew it was in another language, but what language she had no idea. She briefly wondered what it meant, but that thought was cut off when his lips brushed over hers gently. She pulled back away from him and she smiled softly. He offered her a smile as well before he turned to Thor and nodded. The two of them began their trek towards the Bifrost and she sighed as she turned to look at the group surrounding her now.
"So, Loki huh?" Volstagg asked and she nodded. "Never thought I would see the day." He said in amusement and she looked over to him curiously. The tall man was still laughing lightly and she furrowed her brows at him, while the other two seemed decently amused as well. She scanned over all of them but they said nothing so she rolled her eyes and made her way to the old room where Odin had had her paintings. She brushed her fingers over the one nearest her, which was the first one she had done for him. It was framed in a beautiful golden frame and she couldn't help the smile that crossed her lips.
She took to setting up her canvas once more and ran her fingers over the tips of her brushes. She dipped her small brush in the black paint and began painting softly. Her soul felt at ease here with her art supplies, more at ease than she had been in a very long time. Deft strokes of the brush brought joy to her heart as the paintbrush slipped over the canvas. She closed her eyes and saw visions of a beautiful woman swathed in black. She swapped brushes and green paint smeared across the canvas in thick lines that traced over the woman's form. She didn't know where she had seen this woman before, but she was lovely in a dark manner.
She knew every now and then she would be gifted with the sight, seeing as she had drawn Loki before he had even arrived in his cell. She just never told him that because it would have been an awkward conversation. Then again, she could have easily explained it seeing as though Heimdall could see everyone at any given moment. When she was finished, she stepped back and her eyes went wide as she took in the image of the woman she had just painted. Her heart thumped in her chest as the image of said woman began playing in her mind like a story of carnage. She swallowed softly and stepped away from the portrait.
She looked over to see Heimdall was gone and possibly had been for some time. The only one still in the room with her was Hogun and he was silent as he sat in one of the chairs. Darkness emanated from the image of the woman and she felt the urge to destroy the painting, but she couldn't bring herself to do so. She wrapped her arms around herself gently and tried to contain the fear that was seeping from her every pore. She couldn't describe it as anything other than smothering. The fear that gripped her stole her breath away and she couldn't figure out how to get it back.
She looked over to the doorway and saw that Heimdall was running toward her with a sword slung over his back. It was the same sword that he had been carrying in the vision he had appeared to her as. He took one look at her painting and frowned. "You saw her too..." it wasn't a question he was sure she had seen the woman in the painting as well. He grabbed her arm gently and pulled her along behind him, leaving Hogun to defend. She rushed after him and couldn't honestly think of anything to ask him, seeing as he was panicked.
He began gathering the townspeople on the way up the hill and soon they had hundreds of Asgardians fleeing and she didn't know where they were going. He led them all up to the top of the hill and a large bridge lowered down for them and they crossed over it to get inside the mountain. She looked down the hill and could see the woman fighting with all the Asgardian soldiers in the town gathering area. She watched as the woman cut them all down by herself. Fear gripped her soul as Heimdall pulled her within the mountain and raised the door to close off the mountain from her. People around her began starting fires trying to light up the hiding place.
She looked over to Heimdall and he motioned for her to come over to him. She made her way over to him easily, because in this darkness she could still see everything clearly. "That woman is Thor and Loki's older sister. She was locked away by Odin because of her tenacity for battle." He explained and she nodded. She had seen that the woman seemed to love the thrill of a fight. She looked back to him once more and he looked saddened as his eyes glowed. He turned back toward her and frowned deeply. "The warriors three have perished." He said solemnly and her shoulders slumped as she thought about the three men who had been so willing to protect her. They did their job and well, she prayed that they could see Valhalla, even if they were not Asgardians they had fought for the safety of Asgard.
She looked back to him and saw his eyes were still glowing that brilliant amber and she wondered what he was looking at now. He released a small sigh of relief and turned to face her once more. "Thor and Loki are safe. Mjolnir is destroyed, but they are on Sakaar." He said and she nodded placing her hand over her heart. She had been so worried about the two of them. Her racing heart calmed down and she wondered when she would see the two of them again.
They spent days in the mountain, waiting for the brothers to return but neither of them had shown up. "She's here." Heimdall said and she nodded as she placed her hands out before her and created a second wall to secure the mountain just a little bit better. She looked back to her ice wall once more and nodded. She turned to see Heimdall opening the other side of the mountain. They evacuated the mountain and rushed down the side of the mountain in the opposite direction.
She stumbled over the rocks, but Heimdall was there for her every step of the way. He would pull her back to her feet and keep the crowd moving. The moment her feet touched the Bifrost bridge she heard a loud clanging and she knew deep in her soul that Thor had returned and was beckoning to Hela, as Heimdall had called her. They stepped out onto the bridge and began rushing down towards the Bifrost, but a large black wolf made itself known and growled at them.
She turned to face the other way and the army of the undead was cornering them in on the other side. Her heart sank as she realized she had no way out of this, none of them did. She kept fighting them off though, she wasn't going to go down without a fight. Heimdall looked behind her, but before she could even turn to look, she heard his voice and her heart fluttered. He had come back after all... she had been worried that something had happened to him after having seen Thor fighting but Loki had been nowhere to be seen.
"You savior is here!" he said as he hopped off the large ship and began assisting in the takedown of the undead army. She watched him as he ushered the people onto the ship calmly and she couldn't help but smile. He was ok and that was what mattered. He made his way over to her and smacked an undead soldier with his helmet, that goofy grin plastered on his lips as he did so. "Did you miss me?" he asked and she swatted him gently as he rushed forward to take out more of the undead she had caught within her ice.
A brilliant flash of light and Thor made his presence known as well. She was mesmerized by the sheer amount of lightning he had learned to control in such a short time. A bolt of it struck near her and she turned to see the remains of yet another soldier. She figured since they were all four fighting, she could work on getting everyone into the ship. She ushered them all within, the women and children first while the men held back and fought. One of the men turned to her and tried to usher her into the ship but she refused politely and waved him on in. he gave her a hesitant nod but did so anyways.
She turned to see Loki running off up the Bifrost and knew she needed to get into the ship now, they had something planned. She turned and hopped back on the ship with assistance from Korg. "Hey there friend, nice to meet you." He said and she offered him a small smile as she pulled herself up the rest of the way... She turned and watched as the large creature called Surtur burst from the ground and began immediately destroying Asgard.
Her heart ached for the people who had fled from there because this was their home that was being destroyed right before their eyes. A gently brushing of fingertips over her sleeve and she turned to see Loki standing beside her. his fingers trailed down her sleeve and laced with hers and in that moment she saw the worst thing that could ever happen to them.
She saw his true death.
