Dagger of Athena (English version)
"The Dagger of Athena is a cherished relic, it's worth millions, Birdie. But he won't let you buy it easily," Nathan said, his voice buzzing in Raven's earpiece. She breathed in the salty air, smiling at the sight of her father's home country, Greece.
"I know, Frost-Byte," she replied, spotting the local Greek gang leader, Rafail Kanas. Raven was sitting at Eleos' Cafe, a cover-up for gang members to buy stolen items. It had taken her spy base, FALLOUT, a lot to earn her entrance.
"Well?" Steel, her supervisor, asked.
"Kanas' spotted, heading over right now." Raven stood up, walking over there. She wore a loose-fitted red dress with a leather jacket, her handgun in one of the pockets, and it was usually Diva's job to play distraction.
Rafail Kanas noticed her right away. Raven was in disguise, her hair temporarily dyed red and sported green contacts. "Ah, do we have ourselves a buyer, boys?" Rafail asked his gangsters. The gang leader had pale skin and shaggy brown hair with some stubble. His shirt was slightly open to show off a chain necklace.
Raven tried not to roll her eyes. Tryhard gangster...
"A pretty one too," another added, grinning. "Never seen you before."
Gosh, how does Diva stand being treated so poorly? "I'm an antique dagger collector, Kissin' Kathy." Raven tilted her seat, taking up the empty seat across from Rafail. "If you never heard of me before, then shame on you."
Rafail chuckled. "Are you sure you're rich enough to buy the dagger, Kissin'?"
She scowled. "I'm sure, Kansas."
"Ten million dollars," he smiled, narrowing his eyes. Raven's heart sank as she nervously looked around. "What's wrong? Not sure now, Kissin'?"
"You're bluffing," she threw back, "show me the Dagger of Athena first!"
"Can't do that, it's my favourite weapon after all."
Raven noticed a case under the table, realizing how quickly she could steal it. "Don't be tempted," Steel ordered. "Glossy is on his way to receive the case, keep Kanas distracted."
Raven sighed loudly. "How big is the dagger?"
"Small, not your average dagger. Nice detailing, red rubies, worthy of the actual goddess of wisdom." Rafail cocked his head as Raven saw Glossy enter the cafe, sporting a suit with his curls.
Glossy, formally Camilo, was going to steal the dagger according to Steel's plan. He casually walked by before 'accidentally' tripping over the case. The lock must have been cheap because it cracked on the floor, and the cash was—empty? A decoy...
"Hey!" Refail hollered as Raven faltered.
The case didn't hold the dagger. Where is it?
Glossy quickly blurted out an apology in Spanish. "Uh, n-no English? Dios, lo siento mucho. Lo siento mucho, no era mi intención que eso sucediera—" Suddenly, two of Rafail's gangsters grabbed him, dragging him out the door.
Rafail shrugged. "I don't have time for hustlers."
"Me either, Kanas." Raven was left alone, with no backup. I'm the lone wolf, she told herself. I prefer it this way. But she couldn't deny that she was in deep waters, Raven was sitting next to a gangster leader.
Her eyes fell to Rafail's chest where something stuck out. The outline of a dagger. Of course! It wasn't in a case, but Rafail wore it as a necklace to ensure no one would steal it. Now she needed a new plan...
"I don't have enough," Raven admitted.
"Now, now, Kissin' Kathy. You were fun, exotic even." Exotic. The word rubbed Raven in the wrong way. Rafail shooed away his members as Raven leaned against the table, smiling crookedly. "Come here."
"Birdie?" Frost-Byte sounded concerned. "Birdie?"
Raven was soon by Rafail's side as she planned an escape. She saw Glossy struggle to get back into Eleos' Cafe, trying to open the door. Rafail went on to talk about his exes, who weren't ever as good as Raven was.
She caressed Rafail's chest in a steady pattern, her eyes flitting to where the chain necklace clasp was. "I've never seen such a beautiful woman before," he spoke lazily as Raven's hand finally caught on the necklace.
She yanked it, the dagger-held necklace grasped in her hand. Raven bolted, throwing open the door. "Kissin' Kathy!" Rafail bellowed as she passed Glossy, who managed to break free from the gangsters.
"I got the Dagger of Athena!" she told Frost-Byte and Steel.
"The getaway car is by the corner!" Glossy yelled as gangsters chased them. Raven followed his lead as they hopped into a red Jeep, Glossy jammed the car key in and stepped on the pedal.
They took off as shots went off. "Pulling up safe house addresses, make sure to shake these guys first," Frost-Byte urged as Raven looked over her shoulder. They had a car following them as she shouted at Glossy to floor it.
The Dagger of Athena was in her hands, its red rubies studded at the weapon's handle. Raven could tell why it was worth so much. "¡Mierda, mierda!" Glossy cursed in Spanish as a bullet hit one of the rear mirrors.
"Oh God!" Raven gripped the dagger.
"Don't worry, chica, you gotta' trust me!" Glossy took a sharp turn as Raven braced for impact. He honked so people would move out of the way as the car swayed. "Do you trust me?"
Raven didn't answer and he took it as a 'yes.' He quickly drove near a dark, wide alley, quickly turning around the wheel. He backed up so perfectly that the Jeep slipped into the shadows of the alley.
Rafail's goons drove right past them, making Raven sigh in relief. "Oh my god," she muttered, gasping. "You nearly killed us, Glossy." She held up the Dagger of Athena, relieved it was safe.
"Told you to trust me, chica," Glossy protested.
"Birdie and Glossy to base," Raven said to Steel, catching her breath. "We secured the item, Glossy's with me. We're going on the next airplane flight back to the FALLOUT base."
"Change of plans," Frost-Byte answered. "We're going to Macau, China."
