Blame Tumblr
In this, Robin and Kid Flash haven't met yet. Robin is 13. Kid Flash is 15. Blah blah blah. Blame (or thank) Tumblr for all of my one-shot ideas
Robin the Boy Wonder jumped from rooftop to rooftop as he roamed Gotham City. He and Batman were currently patrolling, but the two had decided to split up in order to clear more ground.
He loved his city, despite the fact that it was dull and full of crime. Sure, the fact that he could only see black and white only aided in making it seem grim, but other cities had much more white than the black colors that Gotham held.
Dick jumped yet another rooftop as he considered the colors that his eyes were able to perceive. He had heard that by simply touching your soulmate, your eyes would be filled with colors beyond your imagination, but he knew that it would probably be a long time until he could envision those. Hell, Bruce still wasn't even able to see them, so what were his chances?
At this thought, he recalled his parents attempting to describe the vast variety of colors that their eyes were able to see, his young mimd wishing to be able to see those one day.
Suddenly Robin saw a white streak make it's ways across the streets of Gotham,"What the...?"
Robin used his grappling hook to swing himself building to building, on the path the streak took.
After a while, Robin was about to give up, stating that the streak was simply too fast for him, though it finally stopped running down the streets as the streak slipped inside a building.
The Boy Wonder was careful to be inconspicuous as he made his way into the building. Once inside, he saw a teenager boy only a couple years older than him. By his attire, it was obvious he was a beginning hero.
"Man, I thought there was going to be some kind of drug thing going on here!" The strange boy ranted,"How am I supposed to get Barry to trust me now?"
Robin quietly approached the boy,"Who are you?"
The older male jumped,"Dude, where did you come from?!"
"Me? You're the one with super speed running across the city,"Robin countered,"And Barry? As in the Flash?" It would make sense that he was referring to the Flash seeing that the teen possessed the same abilities.
The boys eyes widened,"You know my Uncle? Wait- you're Robin, the Boy Wonder! How did I not recognize you earlier? It's p-pretty cool to meet you in person." He smiled sheepishly.
Robin ignored the last part,"You're his nephew?"
"Uh, yeah, my name is Wally- uh, I mean, Kid Flash! Ugh... whatever, this is probably why Uncle B doesn't trust me to be a hero. Can't even keep my own identity safe. I don't know how you can do it so easily."
Robin cocked his head in confusion.
"I just got these powers and my Uncle doesn't want me to be his sidekick. I really want to help out, I know I can do it. I just want to be like you and Batman, ya know? Saving people, fighting crime, and with Uncle B and me, it'll be like the family business."
Robin stood up straighter,"Well, Kid Flash, running into Gotham is not one way to earn that trust. You could have gotten in so much trouble if you messed up, especially for a beginner. This isn't an easy life, you have to be prepared for everything and anything. You'll have to make sacrifices and you'll lose a lot along the way."
"I know, but I'm willing to accept all of that and more."
Robin sighed,"The Flash is a cool guy, and if you really really think that you can do it, I'll sure he'll be able to see that soon enough. Just give it some time."
"You think so?" His eyes lit up.
"Yeah, how do you think I become Robin?" The two shared a small laugh.
Kid Flash smiled,"Thanks. If I do get to stay as Kid Flash, I'll owe it all to you."
"Just stay in Central, Gotham is not a place for beginners."
"Got it." Kid Flash stuck out his hand,"Thanks for the advice."
"No problem," Robin accepted the hand, but as soon as contact was made, he pulled back from the grip as his vision changed and warped.
The pale boy in a black and white attire in front of him changed into a boy with vibrant colors on, adorable bright freckles on his cheek, and bright fire-like hair. Even though it was dark within the building, the colors began to contrast more, blues and purples sticking out. Sure, Robin didn't even know the names of the colors he was just seeing for the first time, but he didn't care because they were beautiful and unlike anything he had ever seen before.
Kid Flash seemed to be reacting to the contact as well,"Dude..." The two looked around, the room looking completely different than it had before.
Robins eyes suddenly widened as he realized what the colors were a sign of.
He had found his soulmate.
"The Boy Wonder is my soulmate?" Kid Flash let out a small chuckle,"Guess my crush wasn't completely hopeless."
"What?" Robin was still talking a while to process all the vibrant as well as dark colors that were now available to his sight.
"U-uh, nothing!"
Robin looked up at Kid Flash,"I take back what I said."
"About?"
"Don't stop coming to Gotham."
Wally raised an eyebrow.
"Because if you do, then how else am I supposed to get to know my soulmate?"
The two laughed and began makings plans to hang out. Surely, it was somewhat strange, just meeting a complete stranger and being told you were meant to be with them for the rest of your life. Though for some reason, it didn't seem to be any kind of a problem for the two boys as they continued to get to know each others. And as they continued to bond, they grew a strong friendship. Robin even helped convince the Flash to let Wally become Kid Flash. Then when that friendship grew to it's highest potential, they both became so much more, only then truly understanding why they really had been soulmates, both supplying true colors within each others lives.
