Chap. 29

Alan's pov

Stacie never answered back, or called back. I texted her for weeks, until eventually I gave up. It's not like I loved her...haha. I just had a huge crush on her. And I'll admit it, it hurt like hell even after giving up. But I deserved it completely. And I was getting over it, plus I had to focus on what I did have.

And somehow Bob was in that list of what I have.

"If we prepare for the SATs now, we could get an amazing score when we do have to take them." Bob explains as he piles books on the desk.

Did I mention, he's tutoring me kind of now. My mom set it up with his mom, but I think it was just so they could hang out more. They had a lot in common, both missed their husbands, (though Bob's dad was still alive and even came back recently). I met the dude when my mom and I were invited for dinner. He was pretty quiet, kind of like how Bob was until recently. But whenever Bob's dad spoke, whatever he had to say was charming. It was hard to ignore him.

"Alan." Bob says snapping his fingers in my face, I shake my head blinking.

"Yeah, sorry." I say and grumble grabbing his wrist. "You can stop that now."

"Sure," he scoffs pulling his hand away. "Now get to reading, if you need help please say something or I will assume you're just fine." he says before opening a book of his own to study from.

He had a notebook with blank pages open, and a pencil in hand obvio ready to take notes. I groaned to myself as I reached down for my backpack to get those materials as well.

I was being lazy, and wasn't trying to bend down completely to grab my bag. I just kept reaching down trying to stretch my arm. Eventually, I lost my balance and almost tipped back completely in my chair. I froze in fear sitting up straight. I hooed bystanders in the library didn't see, and that the liberian wouldn't come over.

Bob glances over and quirks an eyebrow. I wave it off and grab my bag properly, then pull out the materials needed after some digging.

"You need to clean out your bag." Bob mumbles, and I glare his way. But his eyes are still in the book as he somehiw takes notes at the same time. "You need to organize it too." he says before I could even reply to his first rude comment, which he would say is just the truth.

"Well I would, but I got a life." is all I can think of as a come back, as I open my notebook to a blank page.

I see a small smirk on his face as he reads while writing. I glance at his notes to see if they even make sense, and somehow they do.

"Do you mind not breating all the air? I need my air and space to live properly."

I look down to see his blue eyes looking up at me. I cough before leaning away from him, sitting back in my chair properly.

"Sorry." I mutter before leaning forward to read the SAT's "study guide" book.

But my eyes wandered from the book, loking anywhere but at it. Eventually, they landed on Bob. His hair seemed to be a lot lighter in the light, almost blonde if it weren't for the brown. Was it always like that?

His eyes eventually looked up from the book. I swallowed hard, quickly lifting up my book to practically shove my face in it. Even though the words were right there in my face, I wasn't reading them. I peeked up to see him just glancing at the clock afar on the wall. I let out a sigh of relief, placing the book back down on the desk.

What was I scared of? And why was I so relieved? I shook my head and looked back at the book, I needed to get something down in my notebook or he was gonna pester me more than he already does.

"How long are you just gonna stare that book down? You know you actually have to take in the information and move your eyes to read right?" I hear him chime in, and I turn to glare him for probably the thousandth time today.

"I'm not like you Bob, I can't just devour information then puke it back out."

"Disgusting terminology, but thanks for the newsflash, try to hurry up though. I want to go over the notes with you. Maybe even try some practice tests." he says moving his pencil back and forth, like a puppy excited for a ball to be thrown.

"Yeah, yeah." I mutter shoving my face in the book once again. "Stupid books and words." I mutter under my breath.

"The books and words did nothing to you, don't disrespect them. Especially in a library." I hear him say, probably rolling his eyes as well.

"It's December, second semester isn't even here and you are shoving the SAT's down my throat." I grumble shutting the book. "I'll study another time, I'm not a junior yet."

"Alright, when I'm the CEO of a company and you're the janitor, don't come complaining to me." he says turning his head away with me with a huff, and continues to study.

"Now you've gone too far, who knows if you'll be a CEO. Your SAT score doesn't mean shit if you don't get the job or degree." I mutter glaring bullets through his head, as he continues studying and ignoring me. "And who says I was gonna be a janitor? Maybe I'll just work under you in a cubicle, or maybe I'll even be the trash man."

He snorts, finally looking up from the book. "The trash man, is that the best you could come up with? You should have stopped at the cubicle."

"Hey! They make some nice cash!"

He continued to laugh at me. Even though I was trying to defend myself, I was smiling. I was glad to have him back, and the other two.
