Chap. 22
Alan's pov
He's not even answering his phone. I text Bob multiple times, I was started to get worried. I even called! Which I know we never called before but this was making me worry more. My friends I would have asked but why would they know about his whereabouts, their my friends not exactly his. So I was stuck, stuck figuring out what to do about Stacie on my own.
Which is the worse, it's terrible to leave me alone with my own brain to figure out what to do about my feelings for her. But I couldn't keep waiting for Bob, he himself told me I needed to act fast. She could easily be swept off her feet by another. Like by Duke for example. So I did the impossible, never thought I would. Or at least this soon.
Stace
Me: Hey...
So you want to go on a date?
I mean have lunch?
Stace: Sure! Tomorrow?
I stared at her message for a while. I couldn't believe what I read, I kept thinking maybe I misread. Or maybe she had made a mistake, autocorrect can be a real bitch sometimes. But after the tenth time of rereading her reply I realized she must have actually sent it.
Me: Really?
Stace: Yes?
Me: Um yeah...tomorrow!
Stace: Great! I'll meet you at the lunch doors.
Me: See you then
I was shook, she actually said yes. Did I just need to ask all along? Well I guess it doesn't matter, I need to plan things out I guess? I want to tell my friends, but I think I should try keeping this all to myself for once. I'll tell them afterward, I don't want to bother anyone else about my love life. Maybe Stace and I could be dating...the next party at the school I could be here date!
I reached for my phone again, this time to text Bob. I stopped myself and out my phone back. I can do this on my own. So I got out some paper to write some plans on. That lasted until I went to bed. The next morning I decided on a plan. Which was to keep things classic.
As soon as I got on the bus I had the urge to sit next to Bob and tell him about the whole thing. I waved when I saw him but he didn't seem to notice. He seemed very distant, sitting next to him didn't even cause him to glance over. It was almost like the first time we sat next to each other.
"Is something-" I started to ask Bob whe Stacie got on the bus, then came over to us...me smiling. "Uh.. hey." I say shooting her a smile and she gives me one back in return.
"Hey Alan." she replies sitting in the empty seat on the other side that was next to us.
It's like Bob came back to life. He was glancing at me then her. His eyes lastly landed on me. I turned to him raising an eyebrow.
"Just move over there." he says shoving me out the seat and I actually almost fall out the seat.
"Where did that strength come from?" I mutter as I regain my balance while some people laugh.
"Sorry, but you're looking like a child who's giving a parent puppy eyes to get something. Just go." he muttered lowly so only I could hear, saving me from more embarrassment.
"Alright..but I'll talk to you later." I say and he look back out the window without a real reply.
I sigh slightly and go to sit over with Stacie. She glances at Bob then me. I hope she didn't catch what he said to me. He already shoved me in front of her. I felt my face heating up.
"Is he okay?" she asks making me relax a little.
"No idea honestly, I'll talk to him later though." I say and she nods gently then smiles.
"Can't wait for lunch." she says and I groan nodding.
"It's the best time of the day, second to the last bell ringing. Well at least for me since I don't really do after school stuff." I say and she laughs making me raise an eyebrow. "What?"
"I don't think the school food is as amazing it seems to be by your reaction." she says smiling and I shrug smiling. "Also I was specifically talking about today, what happens during lunch." she says clearing her throat while playing with the red scrunchie with gold hearts, that was holding her hair up in a ponytail.
"O-Oh." I mumble as I feel my face heat up. "Right." I say nodding and she shakes her head with a small smile. I noticed her cheeks were slightly pink.
The bus eventually stopped at our school. I let Stacie walk off before me like the gentleman I was. I was about to walk after her but Bob moved in front of me. He walked off without another word making me frown as I got off myself. Instead of Kaden and Landon surrounding me they were surrounding Bob. I rose an eyebrow and started to walk toward them but stopped. Bob smiled for the first time today of me seeing him. I gripped the strap of my backpack and turned away walking to the building.
Maybe he just needed space. It was fine, it's fine. I'll focus on my date today and worry about those three later. I would tell them how things went and so. I just needed to keep focus and try to be relaxed. And that's what I did, kind of. I focused on the date mostly and eventually lunch came. But I was beyond nervous. I think I was trembling and sweating as I walked over to Stacie with my lunch tray.
I should have made us a fancy lunch like I thought of earlier. She did tell me she wasn't really a fan of the school lunch. Keep it classic I thought, what does that even mean?! Ugh I'm so stupid, I need Bob. I need his help, it Kaden...even Landon! Someone!
"Hey." I say wiping my forehead and Stacie raises an eyebrow.
"Hey, ready to go?" she asks and I nod tugging at my shirt. "Did you run?" she asks as we wake out the cafeteria into the hallway.
"Uh..no why?" I ask fanning myself as we walk to an exit door and she opens it for us walking out.
"Because you're sweating a lot." she says causing my face to heat up as I walk out feeling the slight breeze.
"Don't know what you're talking about." I say as the door closes behind me and she smiles grabbing my hand.
I reluctantly let her keep hold of it even though I wanted to pull away. I bet she felt uncomfortable with my sweaty hand, she would probably let go on her own. But she didn't, she kept walking and I walked beside her. Her hand was soft and I wasn't sure if it was cold or not with all the sweat my hand had. But I was happy and eventually my hand relaxed a little in hers.
Eventually we took a seat on some grass. The seniors took up most of the tables outside. I leaned back against a water fountain. I ate my burrito glancing at Stacie. She had a burrito also but she had more healthy things. While I had a churro and fries she had pear slices and carrots.
"Pretty classic huh?"
Why would you say that?! I repeatedly punched myself or well wanted to.
She turned to look at me her hair flipping with her. She looked like a cute chimpmunk while she chewed some of the burrito. I smiled looking at her eyes and she looked at mine.
"What do you mean?" she asks after swallowing and I glance away.
"I have no idea, I don't know what I say half the time." I say cutting myself off from saying "with you".
"It's cute." she says causing my face to heat up looking at her.
"You're cute." I say feeling my face get hotter and her cheeks slightly turn pink.
"Thank you...I um said yes to this date because I um... I'm moving." she says looking away and eats some of her pear slices as I frown.
"Oh..." I say after a moment of silence. "Why?"
"My mom and dad are splitting...I'm going go try to say my goodbyes on the first day back after fall break. That's the day we should be leaving too." she says softly before making a loud crunch after eating a carrot. I nod reaching toward her but she stands up with her tray. "Sorry if I ruined the date." she says and quickly stuffs the rest of her food in her mouth making me grimace at the weird combination.
I stand up also laughing a little. It was cool that she didn't seem to be afraid to show this side to me. I wanted to smile but I also remembered the news she just told me. I finished my burrito and kept my churro, throwing away my tray. She walks off a bit and recycles her tray making me glance at the trash can. I would take it out but that would be so gross. Would I do it for her? I started to reach in the trash.
"Please don't." she says laughing and I stop feeling my face heat up, as I move away from the trash can and go over to her.
"So what no-" I start and Stacie's kiss stops me from finishing.
It was just on the cheek. But it was a kiss, a kiss from Stacie. I felt like my face was burning and she smiled at me.
"I don't know, but I think we should head back inside before the lunch bell rings. I have to go to the bathroom." she says clearing her throat and I nod.
I opened the door for her, earning a thank you from her. I shivered glancing around a bit when I felt someone or something watching. I shook my head at myself and followed her inside, closing the door behind me.
