CHAPTER XLVI
Her feet were dangling off the floor, groaning at her sore limbs, she turned herself and dropped her hand against a cotton material. A little wrinkle touched her head as she folded up her nose at the fine scent of cologne and the short breaths that fanned her forehead. She squeezed her eyes, rubbed the end of her lips, and patted her hair down before she pushed herself awake. It took a while for the surroundings to clear, but she began to remember how she and who she fell asleep on.
It didn't surprise her to see a sleeping Harrison facing away from her, his hands were wrapped around her hips as her head rested against his chest, with his legs raised high on the extended sofa. Her heels were off and her legs in fact dangled off the armrest of the sofa with her free hand intertwined with his and rested on her hip. Turning her head upwards, she released their hands, feeling his fingers drop down, and then traced the edge of his jaw with her fingers. She climbed up his face and used her thumb and index finger to pinch and hold on to his nose. It took a moment for him to notice the blockage, and he shook her hand off his face with a swipe of his hands.
A laugh boomed from her chest as he pulled on the ends of her hair, adjusting himself and shaking the end of his feet to get comfortable. His hair was still good, so she reached up again and messed that up as well, but he was quick, snagging her wrist in his tight grip and returning it to her hip as he dropped a kiss on her head. She finally relented, sighing as she snuggled back against him, resting her hand on the side of his neck.
"There are far better ways to wake someone up, you know." She nodded. She allowed him to intertwine their fingers again while she dropped her other arm back on the armrest. "You didn't sleep for long."
"Really? My neck feels like I have been asleep for hours." She replied, leaning in and kissing him, pushing closer to him as he pulled her closer and opened her lips to his kiss. She traced the top of her lip with his before dipping his head lower and deepening the kiss. "We are about to land in a few minutes; I don't think I wanted to be woken up by the attendants. I'd rather be my own alarm clock."
Harrison only nodded, he lifted his knee, and she rested her elbow on it. Cassandra watched the window in silence; she was lost in the clouds, thinking back to the past months, wondering how she and Harrison had come so far. They had not been dating for long, but they had put in equal effort to learn so much about each other that she felt like they knew each other for years. She loved having him around, and she always peaked to hear his voice and read his messages. Cassandra knew he was weaving into her life day by day, and she was scared to have to tear any piece away.
Cassandra turned, and Harrison dropped his hold, watching her turn to face him. She looked at him like she was seeing him for the first time, tracing the line of his jaw with a finger and feeling his hair with her other hand. He didn't speak, only watched her, his hand on her hips as she knelt between his legs.
"Thank you." She whispered, and he smiled. She wished she could give him back as much as he gave for her, adjusting to her and trying to understand her flaws and didn't judge her too much.
Cassandra leaned closer, gently kissing him, squeezing his T-shirt between her fingers as she felt his hand tighten around her. White noise came through the speaker before a voice began relaying announcements. They were about to land, so they had to get seated and strap in for the landing. She and Harrison shared a look and then broke out laughing as she scooted back to get off the couch.
After they landed, he stepped out of the aeroplane, waiting at the end of the stairs to offer his hand just as she stepped off as well. Cassandra took his hand, combing her fingers through her hair as she set her sunglasses over her face and turning to grin back at Harrison. He flipped his glasses out at settled them on his face, the wind whipped some hair around his face, but it didn't stop him from posing and winking at her.
The winds were stronger in Himont than in Santa Montes, and Cassandra had to drop her head low as they approached the car. The material of her skirt flew around her legs, and her hair was blown off her face. Her fingers slipped from Harrison's, but she wrapped them around his elbow and drew closer before he could ask any questions. The city was a windy one, well it wasn't surprising since half of it was in the desert but funny enough, the richest people in the country lived there.
"Welcome to Himont, Miss Hernández and Mr Clark. My name is Keon Tonya, and I would be your guide for the duration of your stay here." The young woman bowed to them as she opened the door to the car, waiting for them to step in before she lifted her head up and walked to the passenger side.
"I have heard of Himont, but I have never been. It is beautiful," she slid up from him but kept their hands together as her eyes looked out the window as they drove across the beautiful city. "Even with all this dust and wind, I am shocked the city is this glamorous. When they say it's the 'City of Riches', they aren't lying."
"Yes, but just like every rich city, it has its perks and downsides. Our hotel is located in the heart of the city, correct?" The question landed on the lap of their tour guide, and the woman turned around to smile at them.
"Yes. The hotel, Himont Haven, as it is called, is actually at the very heart of the city. The building is as old as the city itself. It was the first building to ever stand on this soil and is the highest-ranking hotel. The view from the hotel is..."
"Okay," Casandra murmured when Keon finished speaking, dropping her head back on her shoulders as she turned to look at Harrison, allowing him to kiss her. "That was a lot of information; do you have to say that to everyone?"
The tour guide blushed and shared a look with the driver before replying, "I am sorry, but it is a requirement. I can keep the rest to myself if you want, all the information is also in the brochures. In the meantime, I would like to announce that we are ten minutes from the hotel, and you would be handed your room keys at the reception, and your food would be sent up."
Cassandra laughed and leaned forward to rest her head against Harrison's shoulders. He oozed calm each and every day, their relationship was building, but no matter how deep or personal it got she always prepared for the worse. Clearing her head, she snuggled into him and took in the cool chill of the car, they were there on business, and she wouldn't allow her mind to analyse things that didn't need to be analysed.
"Are you okay with the rooms the way they are? We could have them changed if you don't."
Cassandra shrugged but didn't reply, looking out of the window to watch the road blaze by. He just sat there, an arm slung around her shoulder, his head resting on the headrest and his legs crossed as she touched him.
After a while, she inhaled and smiled, "Yeah, it doesn't bother me at all. I just wish that things would be easier, though."
"Easier?"
She nodded, allowing her hand trail from his neck, down his arm until her fingers wrapped around his elbow. The car was cold. It seemed like the driver and tour guide were immune to the chilling temperature; they chattered on in their native tongue about unknown topics.
"Sharing space for more than a few days is another step for us. There are many things about me that you still haven't seen and sides of you that I haven't seen either. I have my illness, my fears, my worries, and I don't know how many of those things I am ready for you to see just yet. I don't know if I am wording it right."
"You are wording it fine." He whispered, his voice just as quiet as her own; they were in their own world behind the car. "None of us here are without our problems. I don't think I have it all together, and I am not sure what habit I might have that won't sit right with you, but that's what learning is for."
"If you keep being this understanding, I am going to start catching a case."
He laughed, throwing his arm over her shoulder and slinking back. "I'll try to not understand the next problem you bring to the table. Besides, we wouldn't always be indoors every time. There are several sites to see around here we could go around to see in our free time. Been cooped up all day can drive us crazy faster."
"I get to choose the first two places."
"As you wish."
They rolled to a stop, and Keon got out immediately, holding the door open so that Cassandra could step out. The driver parked in front of the steps leading to the tall rounded building. The architecture was impressive, with the building shaped like a semi-circle with high and low areas. The building was made of stone and iron, probably had been worked on years before because it didn't look as worn as it should after standing for decades.
A few employees met them at the door and took their luggage, rolling it away while they walked to the reception desk for their keys. Six people manned the reception desk, standing a few apart and attending to all the visitors that walked in. Their receptionist smiled at them, handing them their keys and offering to have someone see them to their room.
"No thanks."
"Our room is on the last floor, so..." he rubbed his palms together and smirked with a quick glance at her heels. "Stairs or elevator?"
She returned his smirk with a smooth turn towards the elevator, hands in the pocket of her coat as she waited for the shaft to open. Harrison laughed, waving goodbye to the receptionist as he dropped his head and walked over to her. She threw her arms out as he lifted her off her feet, carrying her into the elevator despite her objections.
"We would see you tomorrow." Keon bowed politely again, pushing down on the elevator button before stepping back and smiling as the doors closed.
"I'll call Julia after we get settled. We have a meeting at seven to go over what we need to do tomorrow."
"Maria emailed me the details." He scrolled through the brochure, reading through the pages swiftly. "The internet is good, at least that is what this says. The meeting won't last too long, and we can get some sleep before then."
He slung his arm over her shoulder, and she leaned back, feeling drowsy as the elevator continued to climb. The music playing from the speakers was harmonious and soft, driving her further and further towards the sleep she so badly wanted. They walked towards their separate rooms, and with a final kiss on the cheek from Harrison, she crashed on her bed. The softness of the foam drawing her, finally, into blissful unconsciousness.
