Chapter 1: A New Beginning

A New Beginning

"I can't believe this! How can you leave me alone here Aria?" I heard someone say. I turned around to see my best friend, crying dramatically. She wore an orange shirt and black pants and her hair were long and black.

"Stop overacting Katy. You know you can come there anytime right?" I said as I sighed, taking a sip of my chocolate milk.

"I can't believe you still drink that shit," she said as she sat down next to me on the sofa.

"Shut up! First of all It's not shit and second of all It's not shit," I said as I took couple of more sips.

Katy is always dramatic when it comes to me. We've known each other for the longest time. I don't even remember when I first met her and how we talked. But I can say one thing that she's my only family left after mom died.

Dad I can't really count on. He always comes home late at night and when I wake up in the morning he's always asleep and then when I go to work, which didn't even last a month cause of his habits, he's always gone out to either a bar or a party.

I can't do this anymore. Because of him no one lets me work for them. Like who am I kidding, so that's why I decided that I'll go to Europe and start a new life there. It'll definitely be better than my life here.

As in for Katy, she can come by anytime. Do you know how rich she is? Her house is 10x bigger than mine. Her closet is as big as mine and dad's bedroom combined. She helped me a lot of times and I don't know how to repay her. She is such a great friend, a bit dramatic, but really amazing friend. She cared for me and dad and also she has her own problems to deal with.

I can't describe her only in few words or sentences. I can write a whole novel just on her. She is a happy go lucky girl who is always happy! It's like I've never seen her unhappy. Well I have seen her unhappy sometimes but I can take take frown away and give her a smile. She gets happy real quick. All she need is Starbucks or Chipotle! If you get her either of those she can be happy! She'd kill for Starbucks and chipotle!

I remember the day she got addicted to Starbucks! It was a nice sunny day and we were just dismissed from our school. Everyone's moms and dads came, few went in the bus and we were waiting. We waited for 3 hours and they didn't show up so we started walking home. Suddenly an old man came out of nowhere and asked us few questions. We were small and didn't understand a lot. So we answered his questions and as a gift of, I don't know what, he gave both of us Starbucks.

As we were drinking Starbucks suddenly I saw mom and also Katy's mom coming in a car to pick us up at night our moms decided to show up. We were elementary school kids, alone in the darkest of the night. We were pretty mad but the Starbucks made our night so we decided not to be angry.

That's how Katy fell in love with Starbucks. We still see the old man today and he always gives us Starbucks whenever he sees us!

I still feel like a elementary school kid every time I'm with Katy.

Her mom and dad separated right after my mom died. It has been hard on both of us equally. She lives with her mom right now and her dad lives in Europe. I'm going there so if she wants to come then she can live with her dad there. Her parents treat me like I'm their daughter.

My mom, dad and her mom, dad used to best friends just like us and they also had their companies combined. But one day the company was in debt which caused a huge amount of money which my mom paid. After several months mom passed away and now her mom and dad are handling the business. Despite of the fact that they aren't together, they handle the business very well.

"First of all it is shit and second of all it is shit," she said, mocking 'shit'. "By the way I'll be coming to Europe next weekend and will stay there as long as you want me to."

"Katy you don't have to do that, you know?" I said as I stood up because it was our time to leave for the flight.

"Well first of all I don't care and second of all I don't care," she laughed as a tear rolled down her cheek and she hugged me tightly.

"Umm... hello? I can't breath. Loosen your grip a little please," I said dramatically as I hugged her tightly as well.

We pulled out of the hug and she looked at me. "Don't even think of kissing me, I'm not lesbian," I said as I laughed.

"I won't even hug you stupid," she said as she hugged me again. Dad sat in one car and We left in a different car, in the car we laughed and cracked jokes. We remembered all the memories and moments we spent together.

"Remember Jersey-ish?" She asked me and my face fell from happy to embarrassing. She laughed the whole time looking at my face. "I still can't believe you talked and almost went out on a date with that one."

"Well it's definitely better than that dude from Europe," I said and regretted the moment those words came out of my mouth. "I'm sorry."

"It's not your fault. It was just a bad experience, now C'mon you gotta go," she said half happy, half sad. "I really want you to start fresh but I don't want you to leave." She hugged me once again and then I got out of the car and went inside the airport with dad.

I took my bags and made dad carry his bags because I didn't have more than 2 hands. They can't carry every single thing. "Dad go there," I pointed towards the boarding pass area.

Both of us got checked out and went to sit inside the plane but before I could do that, I turned around one last time. When I turned around I saw Katy, she was still standing near the door and waved at me as I waved back.

I sighed and walked inside with dad. Both of us took our seats in the airplane and after all the announcements and all, the plane was finally ready to take off. I grabbed dad's arm because I hate takeoffs.

Takeoffs were the worst part of flying on airplane.

How worse could it get? Ugh these takeoffs.

The plane finally took off and after we were in the air, I let go of dad's arm.

I sat back and put my headphones on and started listening to 'Closer' its such a beautiful song. It has been playing on a loop since the song came out.

Chainsmokers are BAE!

I didn't even know when, but my eyes closed and I fell asleep the next second. I was so tired.

I wake up to see no one next to me. Where is dad? I sat up abruptly and turned around to see dad waiting in the line to go to the restroom.

I finally sighed taking a deep breath in. I took my headphones out and started reading a magazine which was sitting in my side bag since forever.

After a while dad came and sat next to me. For the first time I felt like he didn't have his whiskey or vodka or whatever shit he always drinks. But little did I know, he took some from the tray which air hostess was going around with.

"Dad you know for once in your lifetime please stop drinking," I said and he looked me.

"Just do what you were doing Aria," he said nonchalantly.

Ugh. Why does dads have to be so complicated? After mom's death dad always came home, drunk. He always drank so much that I felt how can his stomach handle all that? Well as he said, I should mind my own business but I can't. How can I be so calm when dad is drinking this much?

Dad went to sleep and I took all the bottles of alcohol and put it on the tray where the other alcohol bottles were. When I returned they started the announcement saying that we were landing.

Finally! Europe here I come!

After the announcement was finished everyone rushed out the door. Dad and I waiting a little and then we also walked outside and there it was.

Greece!

How amazing was this! I've always wanted to visit Europe and now finally I'm here!

We took our bags, checked out and I went to the restroom. Dad waited outside because he said he didn't have to go. After a while both of us went outside. As dad and I waited for a taxi I remembered something.

"Shit," I cursed under my breath.

"What happened?" My dad asked calmly.

"I forgot my side bag in the restroom," I said and as I was about to go, our taxi decided to show up.

I was confused. I didn't know what I should do. "Dad you take the taxi and wait. I'll be right behind you," I said and ran inside.

I went to the restroom where I went before and found my bag sitting on the counter. "Thank god!" I muttered.

I looked up to the mirror and stared at myself for a second. I sighed, hanged my side bag on me and ran outside the restroom.
