Kaha mar gayi kaamchor?Where have you disappeared,lazy person?)Anita muttered looking around the mess in her daughter,Mahi's room."Twinkle you lazy bitch".She yelled

Twinkle dropped the last utensil with a loud clank that she was washing and headed out of the kitchen.Ha maa(Yes mom).She stood holding her palms together.

A-Tune Mahi ka room saaf Kiya(Did you clean Mahi's room),she asked folding her hands over her chest.

T-" Y-Yes.."

Sound of loud slap echoed in the corridor after that.

A-How dare you lie to me.Why is it so messy if you already cleaned it??

She roared causing Twinkle flinch back.

T-I swear Maa maine thik kiya tha.(I swear mom,I did it)
She said covering her burning cheek which turned red with finger prints on it.

A-Stop arguing with me and clean my daughter's room before she comes back home

T-Ok maa without another word she started cleaning her step sister's room

This was not new to Twinkle infact she has gotten used to this kind of treatment.She had spent 21 years of her life in this house and there was not a single day when her step mother hadn't beaten her.She was glad that today she just stopped at one slap.She had to endure it to achieve her goals.

Twinkle never got to see her birth mother as she passed away the day she was born.From the day she started to speak, Twinkle has been calling Anita as mother.But Anita can never accept her as her own.She loathed Twinkle beyond imagination.

Twinkle always reminded her about the woman whom her husband is still in love like crazy.Rt had told Anita so many things about his ex wife and how madly he was in love with her even after so many years.She had seen some of her photos that he still had in his room.With her lean frame Twinkle is split image of her mother.Even she also has black hairs and brownish eyes.

When Twinkle was a child,she used to wonder why her parents hated her so much when they loved their other two children ,but as years passed she learnt to live with it.

When she entered her teenage Anita taunted her by saying her father blames her for her mother's death that's why he could never bring himself to love her like his other children.It was painful for her at first that she was the reason for her mother's death but eventually she began to accept the harsh reality.

When Twinkle was about to finish cleaning the room,Mahi walked in the room and threw her shopping bags on the bed.Twinkle silently picked the bags to place in the cupboard.

M-What do you think you are doing??
She asked narrowing her eyes at Twinkle

T-Maa ne tumhara kamara thik karne ke liye kaha hai.(Mom asked me to clean your room)She mumbled in her weak voice.

M-Well don't touch my things without my permission ,she spat at Twinkle before snatching the bags from her hands and shoving her out of the room.

Twinkle silently made her way back to the kitchen and saw that sink was full again.

She had Anatomy exam next day and wanted her household chores to complete soon,so that she could study for tomorrow's exam but her mother would never let that happen.She kept on giving her work after work.

Anita didn't like Twinkle going to medical College when her both children Mahi and Aman failing all their exams.

Twinkle got an full scholarship after her school and started pursuing MBBS Surprisingly RT allowed her to attend the college along with a condition that he wouldn't pay a single rupee from his earnings for her college fees.It broke her heart that her father refused to pay her college fees when he could pay for Mahi and Aman's studies and other expenses.

Anita was happy thinking that Twinkle wouldn't be able to survive in medical College without their financial support.

Even though Twinkle had got a full scholarship she had to pay her exam and book fees every semester.
So she had to take a part time job in a nearby restaurant.With little support from her Massi (Maternal aunt),she could successfully complete her first four years of college.

"Bas ek saal aur" ("Just one more year")Twinkle kept telling herself every day.She hoped that she could complete her final year successfully so that she could run away from this house and start a new life somewhere away from her family.

Make sure to clean all the utensils and kitchen before leaving to your room,Anita ordered her before leaving the kitchen

T-Ji maa,she quickly started her work and by the time she reached her room it was already nine thirty in the night.
She hurriedly opened her book and began to revise the chapters.At that night Twinkle hardly got an hour sleep.

At morning she made breakfast for everyone before getting ready for college.Her siblings were sleeping and she was glad about it , because that brat Aman will demand her to make something entirety different for breakfast.And she didn't have time for his tantrums this morning ,She prayed he didn't wake up until she left home.

At eight ,she walked out of the house with her coat and stethoscope in her hand.She half-ran and half-walked to catch her bus.She took out the book once she got into the bus.

"Did you study??" Her friend Alisha asked her as soon as she saw Twinkle walking still buried her face into the book.

T-Not really,i just wanted to pass nothing more than that.
Alisha nodded at her understandingly.
She was aware of her Situation at home and tried every way possible to help her.

They went inside the hall and came out after three hours

A-How did it go??

T-It was okay.What about you??

A-I would pass.She hooked her hand in Twinkle's arm and pulled her out of corridor. They spent some time talking to each other when they heard someone calling Twinkle 's name.

Hey, Yuvraj their senior stand in front of them panting.He is the college's heartthrob girls are crazy about him
but he is crazy behind Twinkle.He was smitten by Twinkle from the time his eyes fell on her,but he could never gather the courage to confess his true feelings for her, fearing that he would lose his three years friendship with Twinkle.

Y-How was your exam??

Alisha cleared her throat and decided to give them some space.She always wanted Twinkle to date him.He was really a nice guy and she believed that her bestie would be happy with him.

T-Good ,she replied with a beautiful smile and How was yours?

Y-Not bad .

A-Twinkle i forgot my lab notebook i will be back soon.She ran inside the building saying that leaving them alone.

Twinkle,he hesitated a little but continued anyways, Would you like to go out with me?He asked her which made her look at him with shock.

Twinkle wouldn't completely deny the fact that she had a little crush on him
but with everything in her life last thing she wanted was to date a guy.

T-Yuvraj tumhe meri condition pata hai na,abhi main apni degree complete karne ke alawa kuch nahi soch sakti.Tum mere acche dost ho aur main dosti se aage nahi badhna chahti.(Yuvraj,you know my condition, right? For now I can't think about anything else other than completing my degree. You're my good friend and I don't want to cross anything except friendship.)
I am really sorry if I hurt you,she denied him in a polite manner

His heart broke but he didn't show it in front of her.That's alright but i will wait till you are ready for this.

Twinkle nodded at him with a smile but she know that it will never happen

A-Kya kaha usne ?(what did he say?)she asked when she came back.

T-He asked me out.
Twinkle noticed the spark in her friend's eyes

A-And what did you say??

T(coolly)-I turned him down.

A-What?Why would you even do that she yelled at her.

T-Alisha you me well ,I already have too much on my plate.All i want now is to get out of that house as soon as possible.
She tried to make her friend understand and Alisha could not say anything after that.

A-Are you not going to the restaurant today??

T-I will go but first i have to go to meet my Maasi.I still have an hour.

Her Maasi Nisha lived on the next Street.She has a son and daughter who were a few years elder than Twinkle .Her Maasi was her only moral support other than her friend Alisha but she wasn't welcomed home since no one likes her presence in that house .So Twinkle often used to visit her and she loves to spend time with her cousins who were like her real siblings .

A-Ok see you tomorrow then she waved as she dropped her at her Massi's home.

Twinkle rang the bell and Nisha opened the door and she was surprised to see a lady sitting inside with a baby in her arms.

N-Twinkle Mera baccha kaise hai tu.(Twinkle,my child how are you doing?)she kissed her forehead and hugged her tightly and How was your exam?

Good she muttered taking off her shoes.

Avantika isse milo ye hai Twinkle meri bhanji aur Twinkle yeh hai meri school ke time ki friend Avantika aur yeh hai Ansh inka pota.(Avantika,meet her. This is my niece Twinkle and Twinkle this is my school time friend Avantika and this Ansh,her grandson.)

Twinkle smiled at her ,nice to meet you Aunty

A-Yeh Leela ki beti hai?(Is she Leela's daughter?)she got up from couch to take a closer look at her.

Yes she is,Nisha replied with a proud smile.

A-Yeh bilkul apni maa jaisa dikhti hai.
(She looks just like her mother.)
She complimented without taking her eyes off Twinkle.

Leela and Nisha went to the same school and college .Most of Nisha's friends were Leel's friends too .They had the same circle of friends and when they heard of Leela's death, it was a huge blow for them.

Twinkle waved at Ansh and in response,he hid his face in his grandmother 's chest shyly.

She went to get freshen up before joining them
She slowly brought her fingers near Ansh's Waist to tickle him, making him wiggle in his grandmother's arms and giggles loudly.He looked so adorable to Twinkle that she wanted to carry him

T-Can i hold him??

A-Sure beta.She gestured with her hand to take him
Ansh was a little shy at first to go in Twinkle's arms but after staring at her for a few minute ,he leaned forward into her arms to everyone's surprise.

N-Thats new,yeh itni jaldi kisi pas nahi aata.Isne mujhe kitni baar dekha hai phir bhi aasani se nahi aata meri godh me aur tumhare saath dekho pehli baar mein hi .(That's new, he doesn't go to anyone easily. He has seen me so many times then also he doesn't come to me easily but look at him with you, he came at first meet)

Avantika looked at her grandson and then at Twinkle .They both seemed to be get well along each other.She had never seen Ansh getting friendly with anyone in such a short span of time.

T-Iski mamma kaha hai ?(Where's his mother?)
Twinkle asked of nowhere and noticed sudden gloom on their faces.

A-She passed away last year.
Twinkle felt like her heart was ripped apart.She suddenly felt so sad for the little boy.He had no clue about his mother's death and looked so carefree
This was how she must have been when she was a baby she thought.
But what would happen when he grew up.Would he grew up to be like her broken and alone,No one to care for her?She wondered

She didn't know how long she spent with Ansh.She knew it was getting late but she didn't want to leave Ansh and go home.She stayed till they heard a car honking outside

A-Yeh zaroor Kunj hoga.Ab mujhe chalna chahiye.She took Ansh in her arms .Tumse milkar bahut accha laga beta.(It must be Kunj. Now I should leave.She took Ansh in her arms. It was nice meeting you, Twinkle.)
She said caressing her head.

Twinkle smiled at her then turned to Ansh who don't want to leave her.Bye Ansh she said and kissed his forehead and palms softly,Ansh babbled softly.

It was almost eight in the evening when she left Nisha's house.She was so involved with Ansh thar that she forgot to go to restaurant too.

She quietly opened the front door of the house and tried to slip as silently as possible but froze when she saw her parents sitting on couch with a cold expression.She knew that she was in trouble with the look on her step mother's face.

Where have you been her father asked in a murderous tone getting up from couch and standing in front of her.She knew that he wouldn't like it if she said she was at her Massi's house so she decided to lie.

T-I was at restaurant,she shuttered

Rt- Restaurant?? Are you sure you were at restaurant ??

T-H..ha pa..pa

Next thing she knew that her father's palm landed at her cheek causing her to land on ground.

Rt-Aman restaurant mein hi tha aur usne tumhe waha nahi dekha.(Aman was at the restaurant only and he didn't find you there.)
With a swift motion he pulled out the belt from pant which he was wearing
and whipped on her back.
"To batao kisne saath thi tum pura time"(So tell me, you were with you the whole time)

Twinkle whimpered as she begged him to stop."Maa papa ko rokiye na"(Maa, please stop papa)
She begged Anita but all she did was enjoyed the show with satisfied smirk.
Yehi natija hoga samaye par ghar na aane ka.(This is going to be the outcome for coming home late)

Finally her plans had worked and her good for nothing husband decided to listen to her for once.There was no way she was going to let Twinkle complete her studies.That way she would become too independent but she didn't want that .

Main maasi ke Ghar par thi,( I was at massi's home) Twinkle spilled the truth when she could not take his beatings anymore but that didn't stop him from beating her.He stopped only when the belt broke into two halves

Rt-Kal se tumhara college Jana band (From tomorrow you won't go to college)
he threw the belt on ground and left.

Twinkle gasped at that.She wanted to stop him and beg him to let her attend the college but she was drained.She could not even move on the ground .Her body felt like it was on fire and she kept on whimpering with pain.
