Chapter 20
Alex
It's been 5 days since I let Harry go. I left because I just didn't want to be here when Harry left. I didn't think I could handle watching her leave. I walk slowly to the living room. She has left her mark everywhere in this place. Pain washes through me again.
I walk over to her room. I turned the knob and opened the door. A small part of me was hoping she was still here, but the silence was enough for me to know that she's gone. Her scent is all over this room. I walk to her bed and sat on it. I ran my hand through the sheet and her pillow. I closed my eyes, and tears start to fall. I took a deep breath and swallowed the sob about to escape my mouth.
A few moments later, I stood up and looked around the room one more time before I left to head to my room. Exhaustion creeps in. I haven't had a good night's sleep since I left. The moment I walked out the door, I wanted to go back inside and beg Harry to stay and forget everything I said, but it's not what she wants. I love her more than anything in the world, so I knew I had to let her go, no matter how hard and painful it is.
The driver I assigned to her told me that she asked to be dropped to the airport. That's all I know. I didn't try to find out where she want. I was scared that I'd just follow her and drag her back with me.
I reached my door and opened it. Her scent greets me. I stop in my tracks and I groan. I'm missing her so much that I can imagine and smell her everywhere. I walked in my room...I stopped in my tracks. I turn back to my bed and saw Harry sleeping peacefully. I felt my breath knocked out of me. I blinked twice, I must be imagining her. She left. How can she be here.
Then she moved. She saw me standing there and she pushed her self up into a sitting position. She turned the bedside lamp. Her eyes squinted at the sudden brightness. All I could do was stare at her with my mouth agape. She smiled at me hesitantly. Love shone in her eyes. She was looking at me like used to. I found myself walking towards her. I kneeled in front of her. I slowly moved my hand to touch her, to caress her arms. I moved so slowly, afraid that she would disappear...that this was all a fragment of my imagination.
As if sensing my thoughts, "I'm here," she whispered, while bringing her hand to caress my face. Then I knew, she really is here.
"You didn't leave," I said.
She smiled and shook her head no. "I couldn't," she said bringing tears to my eyes. I hugged her to me.
"I don't understand. I was told that you were taken to the airport," I said, confused.
She shook her head. "I asked to tell you that. When Nora came in, I asked her to help me pack my things."
"And yet you're still here," I said.
She smiled. "I asked her to help me pack my things so I can bring it here. In your room. I wanted to be here when you get back," she said, tears shone in her eyes.
"God, I thought I lost you. I love you so much," I said to her, relieved that she's really here in my arms.
"I love you too. I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything. Im sorry for hurting you," I tried to say something, but she placed her hand over my mouth and said, "Please. Let me say this."
I placed a gentle kiss on her palm and nodded.
"I've never loved anyone as much as I loved you. I grew up with loving parents, who not only loved me unconditionally, but who also loved each other dearly. I've always thought that they had a perfect relationship. I thought that their love was perfect. So when i got hurt, I couldn't deal with the pain. I didn't know how to deal the pain. I didn't think love could hurt so much, but my mom, she reminded me what love is all about. She wrote me a letter. She made me realize that, love only gets stronger between two people, when they overcome grief and pain. She told me that their marriage was not perfect. They had their share of fights, but they always choose to stay because life wouldn't work without the other," she said.
"Is that why you didn't leave?" I asked her.
She smiled, "partly. I realized that that's how I felt. I don't believe I can survive without you. But she also gave me the best advice. She said, 'The only time you should ever give up is when love no longer exists. As long as the love is there, then never ever give up or walk away from love.'
"Your mom seems like a very smart woman," I said with lightness and joy.
She chuckled, "she was. She knows me so well. She always knew just what to say."
I smiled. It was my turn to say something. "I'm sorry I hurt you. I promised that I will spend the rest of my life showing you how much I love you. I don't want a day to go by that you doubt me. I can't go back and change things, though I hope I could, but I promise you, I will do everything to take away your pain; So that it will no longer bring you pain when you remember my stupidity. I will make you so happy that you would forget about ever feeling that pain. I love you so much sweetheart. I don't think I could ever forgive myself, for what I did to you," I said and she shook her head fiercely, while caressing my face.
"You have to. I don't want to look back. You're already making me so happy. I can't ask for more. I have the love of the man I love. It's the greatest gift I could ever ask for," she said to me in tears.
I kissed her chastely on her lips.
She looked at me with love and warmth in her eyes. I would never take that look for granted ever again.
I looked down and saw her locket.
She smiled at me sweetly and said, "you once asked me who's picture I will put in it," I nodded unsure where she was going with this. "Open it," she said to me.
I opened it. I was shocked to see my picture nestled inside. I looked at her with surprise and shock in my eyes.
"I didn't want to tell you, because I didn't want you to know how I much I loved you then..."
"I wasn't ready to hear it then," I admitted.
"You ran for the hills when I did," she pointed out.
"I didn't get very far, before I realized I loved you and didn't want to lose you, but you were already gone. Disappeared into thin air."
"I knew I couldn't be around you. It would hurt too much."
"If you had stayed, i would have found you sooner and begged you for your forgiveness."
"But you did find me.
I kissed her again. "I saw you wearing it when I found you," I said to her.
She nodded and smiled shyly. "I never stopped loving you. I couldn't bring myself to get rid of it nor take your picture out," she said.
"Even after everything I've done, even after you hate me?"
"I could never hate you. I hated myself for loving you so much even after everything that happened between us," she said sadly, her tone laced with regret. Then she blinked and looked at me, humour dancing in her eyes, and said, "I said a lot of things I didn't mean too, you know. You're not the only one," she said teasing me.
I chuckled, "we do make quite the pair don't we?"
She laughed.
"Don't ever leave me again!" I said to her while engulfing her in a tight embrace.
"Never," she vowed.
The baby kicked and we both laughed.
"Seems like our baby agrees," I said.
"He's smart, just like his daddy," she said.
I pulled away to look at her, "He?"
She shrugged her shoulders, "I don't know. I just feel like he's a boy."
"When can we find out?" I asked.
"Hopefully during my next check up," she beamed at me.
I nodded, "I hope we have a girl. I want her to look exactly like you."
"I want a boy, who looks exactly like you," she retorted.
We both laughed. "I don't really care, as long as our baby is healthy," I said while hugging her to me.
She snuggled closer to me "me too," she said in agreement.
"I love you Ry," I said looking into her eyes.
She smiled and said, "I love you too."
I leaned down to kiss her. Showing her the kind of love I plan to give her for the rest of our lives: a pure, kind, giving, forgiving, passionate, and an unconditional kind of love.
