Chapter 6

The event day arrived in the blink of an eye. I was assisting Alessia as we had to shift the dresses for the fashion show to the venue carefully. The event was going to be held in the most prestigious and luxurious hotel in Milan and fortunately, it was not far from our office. So the last hour modifications and disguise makeovers to wither off the exhaustion wouldn't delay us.

Just when I and Alessia were going through the details of the accessories, dress materials, and props, we were obstructed by the baby girl of the devil. Gosh! Her word stuffed mouth and stupid gestures were always sick.

Speaking of the devil, I hadn't seen him since morning. Was I missing him? What? Me missing him? Nah! No way. I am the happiest when he is far away, or... Huh, I must worry less perhaps.

"Hey beautiful, all set to rock today? I can't tell you how much I love the dress you have designed. Your skilled hands are no less than any magic wand as it always creates something so incredible. You're the best. I'm sure we'll definitely win this contract," Silvia chirped as a glazed look covered her eyes.

"Finger-crossed. But, I would suggest you to be extra careful this time. Last time you met with an accident and there was no one to take your place as a showstopper and that resulted in the decline of our company's reputation. Eventually, we lost the contract. But this contract is really important for our company. So, be careful if you don't want Denver to get mad at you." Alessia warned her in an alarming tone with a faint smile on her lips.

"Ah... Of course. I'll be careful. Thanks." Silvia said reluctantly and left.

"I don't want any mess at today's event. We all worked so hard for this. I don't know why my gut feeling is screaming that something bad is going to happen. I'm feeling really nervous." Alessia sat on a chair and closed her eyes taking deep breaths.

I felt bad for her, but at the same time I was also feeling nervous. I couldn't see her like this but I must comfort her. That's the least I could do. "Nothing will happen, we all trust you. Hope for the best and nothing will go wrong."

"Thanks, darling. I'm happy to have you by my side," Alessia said as she gripped my palms with some hope.

"Take some rest. I'll do the remaining work and give you the reports." I tapped her shoulder gently. She had been working tirelessly for this event. She certainly deserved some rest.

As I was about to take the lift to my cabin I heard Silvia's voice. She was on the phone looking tense.

"Don't worry, everything is going according to plan," she whispered.

I couldn't hear the further conversation as she left. Only god knows about the conspiracy that she was cooking in her mind. Yet, I was damn sure. The rattling rat is up to some menace.

After hours of working, I finally got some free time to sit idly. Luckily, not many employees were at the office. Most of them were gone to spruce up well for the evening. I glanced at the window, the sun was about to bid adieu by scattering the most stunning hues of red and orange.

"It's time to get ready, dear Zariyah," I mumbled to myself and walked to the makeup room for models, as I had no time left to get back to my room and come back.

I dressed up in my teal coloured off shoulder gown. I decorated myself with minimal makeup, some mascara and liners to tone my tired yet gleaming eyes. I chose a beautiful two rowed semi-precious gem string to warm my neck and a matching glaze cut stone dangler that goes with the dress and tied my hair in a messy bun.

The event was going to be star studded so I tried spending a good amount of time on the dress. I grabbed my belongings and took a brief glance at my reflection in the mirror.

It was then when I realised that I dressed up well after ages. Nostalgia hit me, my hand caressed my reflection. A faint smile emerged as my tricking mind reminded me of my pasts in a glimpse. But, this time I wasn't scared. My strength widened my lips making me see my dimples.

"Lot more to go girl," I said to myself.

Within a matter of minutes, I took a taxi and left for the event. The harsh honkings and rumbles of the engines had least of my attention. I decided to take a short nap and then realised that I was lost in it until the car stopped at the final destination.

By the time I arrived at the venue, it was already bustling with limousines, their super-rich and famous owners and not to mention the paparazzi. People were posing graciously, permitting paparazzi to photograph them.

Ditching all the hubbub I made my way to my team, especially Alessia who was desperately waiting for me. As I saw her, she looked a little discontent while giving instructions to the employees, yet, at the same time, she was slaying in her red thigh slit dress accentuating her sculpted body. Alessia would never disappoint to amaze me with her mind-blowing dressing sense. To me, she was and would always be perfect. I approached her by placing a hand on her shoulder. "How's everything going? All well?"

She didn't speak a single word besides gazing at me from head to toe. Blinking her eyes for a good five seconds, she exclaimed in joy, "Girl, just look at you. I think we need to call an ambulance today as you're going to kill someone with this jaw-dropping look."

"Oh! Come on, Alessia. I'm nothing in front of you. By the way, thanks for the compliment. Now, tell me, is everything alright?" I asked. My gut kept rolling between what I feared not to happen and what I chose to ask.

"Yes, we are all set. But, Silvia is still yet to arrive. Her phone is switched off. The event will commence in a few minutes. I don't know what to do." Alessia informed me while biting her neatly manicured nails in panic.

"How irresponsible! Did you inform our boss?" I asked while my gut kept pushing me to reveal whatever I knew.

"Not yet. I was expecting her to show up at any moment, but it seems she won't come. I don't know why but my sixth sense indicates that some disaster is going to happen today. Something is fishy." Alessia's face flushed with suspicion.

Alessia hesitantly informed the Boss over a call that Silvia was missing. As expected, the lines of tension formed on her flawless face. The devil might be shouting in anxiety.

"Cool down, Denver. I'll look for other alternatives. I'll not let our hard work go in vain like this," Alessia assured the devil on the phone. I overheard their conversation while I was checking other arrangements along with the models as they were getting ready for the parade.

The room was filled with the mixed odour of cosmetics, freshly designed clothes, perfumes worn by models, hair sprays and smoking, as many girls preferred to perform smoking rituals to release their stress. The sound of giggling, screaming, and susurration could be heard as by now the news of our missing showstopper spread like a wildfire.

The event was about to start in ten minutes. And then, a miracle happened.
