Whispers

Kira ended up waking even before her alarm. Her eyes automatically wandered to the other bed and she sucked her breath at the sight of his peaceful face. He looked calm and innocent, hugging a pillow close to his body like a teddy bear.

She couldn't help but feel guilty about the night before; it was not like he knew she was organisational-freak with panic attacks. She kept her thoughts aside; she had bigger things to worry about now: the presentation. She quietly got up and decided to get herself ready before he woke up.

One of the most important things business had taught her was dressing to impress. A well dressed person gave the best first impression and she knew by experience for it to be true.

The few hours they spent together before the presentation had been awkward, at least for her. He would smile at her from time and time and her heart would melt each time with guilt. Apologising was not one of her strongest fortes. She had no idea how people made up so easily after a fight. It took her a long time to even calm down, admitting and being brave enough to apologise was another story. When she had finally felt like talking to him, the officials had entered the conference hall, altering her train of thoughts.

The next few hours flew past in a blur. Once the room went silent in anticipation, words had rolled off of their tongue smoothly. They started off with introducing the project plan and later on to its benefits.

She couldn't help but notice how well they coordinated together, speaking as if they were singing a duet. Every once in a while, he'd crack a joke and she would smile as they laughed along to it. That was another important aspect in presentations: keeping the audience on their toes.

She was slowly starting to understand why he was least concerned the other night. He went with the flow like a pro making Kira feel more and more like an idiot for over-reacting but she knew that her instincts worked well only when she was well prepared for it.

The audience's cheerful responses had given them a fair idea on what the outcome would be. They had loved it and had eagerly shook hands, cementing the deal. Relief. It was as if a switch had been turned off, pulling her back from being CEO Park Minjee to just Kira. She raised her hand for a high-five but he simply pulled her into a warm hug instead.

They stood now, staring at two pairs of dresses clutched on either of her hands. The officials were to host a dinner that night and they had invited them in hopes of getting to know them better. Unfortunately for Kira, she hadn't been prepared for it which meant they had to go shopping. She groaned and complained about it while Taehyung on the other hand absolutely enjoyed it.

"The black one. Definitely the black one, go try it." He said, pushing her to a dressing room. She reluctantly tried it on and it was comfortable enough: half sleeved, slim waist sheath dress with minimalistic floral embroidery that extended to her knee.

By the time she came out, he was already content with his selection of clothes for himself and they headed back to the hotel feeling totally spent. It seemed to Kira that ever since they arrived at San Sebastian, they've been constantly tired. She looked at her watch and smiled at how they had four hours before the party. She slumped on her bed and dozed off instantly, sleeplessness from the night before consuming her.

Thankfully, Kira was conscious enough to wake up right on time without an alarm. She woke up, feeling much refreshed as she took in the comforting smell around her. That's when she realised that he was sleeping next to her, holding her close. His chin rested on her head, spooning over her as his arm was wrapped tightly around her waist. His presence was so close that she almost forgot about her little tantrum fit. 'Was apologising really that necessary?' She thought to herself.

He stirred next to her, and she slowly called his name out. He seemed reluctant but he finally woke up and they stayed there in a disoriented unison.

"Ready?" He asked as they stood in front of the thick glass doors, sweet aroma of food already assaulting their noses. She nodded solemnly and he took her small hands in his. With fake smiles plastered onto their faces, they entered the room.

The only good thing about dinner parties was dinner. The rest of time, it was merely pretending to enjoy other people's boring conversation for the sake of diplomacy.

It always came to her as surprise how her normally introverted self was all over the place when it came to formal meetings. It was as if all the energy she collected normally were directed solely for entertaining and gaining the trust of boring accomplished people. It seemed to balance out with Taehyung's demeanour, for he was the complete opposite. His cheery over-enthusiastic self was replaced with a grave face that cracked jokes only for the sake of it. It suddenly made sense to Kira why he let alcohol take control over him.

They remained together, engaging others until he was pulled away by some Japanese folks. Seeing that she was alone now, a few young men came up to her in hopes of conversing. She didn't need any magical powers to infer that they were hitting on her, for some didn't even bother being formal. The bluntness in their tones had initially agitated her but her dad had taught her how to handle them tactically. In the meanwhile, she could feel Taehyung's eyes on her, constantly checking if she was doing fine and occasionally throwing hard glares at the men around her.

Kira struggled hard to keep herself from laughing when a not-so-pleasant Taehyung popped up next to her. He intertwined her hand with his which had resulted in receiving weary glances from her young acquaintances. After that, he never left her side. Kira felt that chivalry was alive again as he gave her company the whole night which just brought her to her initial contemplation. If she couldn't bring herself to apologise to the man she loved, she was pretty much failing humanity and its virtues. She made up her mind to tell him then and there until she chickened out.

She wondered if the world was playing an elaborate joke on her as everyone seemed to apologise to her the entire night. A woman who accidentally hit her with a purse, a man who mistook her for someone else, a waiter who got the orders messed up, a server who almost spilled a drink on her, and finally Taehyung apologised for the lousy night. Kira scoffed at how easily the words rolled off of their tongue while she choked on it.

"Is everything okay?" He questioned, raising an eyebrow at her trance state. Ironic he should ask that. She smiles wearily and gave thumbs up.

The high amount of socialising was wearing her out and the placed seemed to empty out, save for a few drunk men who insisted that Taehyung join them.

"Hey, why don't you go back to the hotel? I'll get there in an hour." He promised. She nodded and glumly headed back to the hotel room.

Kira had hoped that she'd fall asleep the moment she hit the bed but her mind was clouded and troubled. She didn't bother changing out of her dress as she scolded herself, staring blankly at the ceiling. Finally, she decided to prepare an apology.

It had gone way past than an hour and she was finally contented with her words as she impatiently awaited his arrival. An urgent knock suddenly caught her attention and she hurried to open the door. As soon as the door opened, Taehyung got in, slamming it behind him. He moved her towards the wall and put a finger to his lips before she could ask what was going on.

He was panting as if he'd run a marathon and she noticed that he was hiding them both, constantly looking through the peephole. She was worried now and she held her breath in anticipation.

"Taytayy, where are you?!"

Kira raised her eyebrows as the voice sounded oddly familiar.

"Taehyungiee... come out and play with me!" The voice of their newly met client slurred from the other side. There was a series of knocks on the door and soon, the noises died down to invite peaceful silence.

Taehyung finally breathed in relief. "That guy is crazy." He declared. "He was drunkenly chasing me throughout the hotel. Can you believe that? He is total nut job!"

Kira let out the breath she didn't know she was holding and broke out into hysteria of laughter. He looked at her for a while and joined her, his laughter booming in her ears.

"For a second there, I thought you were being chased by a serial killer or something." She let out in between her chuckles.

"Trust me; I'd rather have a serial killer follow me than having that guy chase me around yelling 'teehung'."

They laughed for a while until their eyes finally met, their laughed replaced with a comfortable smile. She was aware of his arms still around her waist and took a deep breath. This was it.

"Taehyung-ah, about yesterday... I am sorry. I over-reacted."

"It's okay."

"I know I know. I was acting like a total bitch- wait what? That's it?"

He chuckled at her clueless face and shrugged. "Yup, apology accepted even though I don't get why you're apologising. If anything, I should be the one doing it."

"Well...But but I had this whole speech prepared about how I get freaked out when things aren't organised and that I tend to get angry. When I get angry, I say stuff I don't mean and I hurt people and I-"

She was rudely cut of as he crashed his lips on hers. It had barely been hours since she kissed him and it had already felt like an eternity. He kissed her deeply, slowly, talking through his kisses rather than words.

They moved away from the door, slowly making their way to a bed. His knees hit the mattress and he sat on it with her on his laps. When they pulled away, she was breathing equally as hard as him. His hands worked on her hair, pulling away the pin so that her hair tumbled down her shoulders.

Unlike their previous kisses, they were softer now like a whisper in the night sky. He held her as if he was holding delicate china, afraid not to break it.

She took in his features, studying them as if this was her last time with him. She held his face tenderly and left a trail of soft kisses on his face, marking the parts that she was most fond of. She pressed her lips against his forehead; his beautiful eyes that seemed to be unique in their own ways; the tip of his nose and the tiny black mark on its lower part that looked like a cherry on top of a pretty icing, the lone scar on his smooth cheeks; and ultimately, his unbearably soft lips.

As she moved down his jaw line, her hands worked down the smooth buttons of his shirt. Their dresses were scattered on the floor in haven of mess. Her head hit the mattress; her body burning with sensation as he smothered her with sinful touches. He gently kissed her forehead, his hot breath hitting gently on her cheeks. When his brown affectionate eyes bore deep into hers, all she could think of was him; his body, his mind and his soul. His everything.
