Third-Wheel
San Sebastian was elegant in all its mighty European glory. The city as far as it went was a stretch of pretty blues and sand. Taehyung seemed like he knew the place pretty well as he confidently hired a cab and asked to go to a place with a name Kira could never pronounce. They reached a small amusement park which held a good view of the city below it.
Kira marvelled at the beautiful sight and instinctively took out her phone. "Stand there." She ushered him to accompany the scenery. As she focused her phone camera on him, he held up his hand with a victory sign. "There," she said. "A pretty man for a pretty sight."
"Ooh." Teased Taehyung. "Someone's in the mood for cheese."
She went next to him, holding out her hand for a selfie. "Minjee, you wouldn't mind if we had company, right? There's this girl who..."
A very loud "OPPA!" cut through the air and caught their attention. "And she's here." Murmured Taehyung before a young girl came crashing onto him with a bear hug. She clearly stood out as a non native to Spain. But the hint of another language severely interfered with her Korean as she ranted rapidly.
"Oppa! You said you'd come two months ago! Oppa is such a liar."
Kira's lips tugged at the corners, working into an amused smile.
"I am sorry kiddo; I got caught up with work."
The girl pouted. "How's Jungkook?"
Kira couldn't help but notice the drop of honorific despite clearly being younger than him too.
"He's good. How are you?"
"I am good now because I get to see Oppa again." She grinned cheekily.
Taehyung chuckled at that and ruffled her hair. Seeing that the two were completely ignoring her, Kira cleared her throat.
"Ah, Yungmi meet Minjee. And Minjee, meet Yungmi." He smiled.
Kira greeted her as the girl simply raised an eyebrow.
"Oh, another one this time? But Oppa, she doesn't look like your normal type. She's a little..." she decided to think again. "...different from the others. What happened?"
"Because she's special." Taehyung said, as if revealing a secret to a child. The girl barely seemed amused and decided to change topic.
"I saw Oppa on the cover of the magazine. Oppa looked so handsome in it! Oppa will always be the 'Heartthrob of the business world'." She continued ranting, pulling Taehyung away by his arm. Kira shrugged, pushing away the urge to teach her the magical use of pronouns.
"Ooh now that Oppa is here, let's go on rides! We've never come here together, have we?" Yungmi seemed unbothered of Kira's presence and dragged him along on different attractions. Taehyung patiently listened to her and replied enthusiastically to her as he would to toddler. Kira could clearly make out that this girl was important. She decided not to meddle with them and followed them around quietly.
The girl ran towards a food cart, finally leaving him with Kira alone.
"She's a handful isn't she?" He laughed, looking at the jumping figure in the distance.
"I guess?" Kira scowled. "And if I hear the word 'Oppa' one more time, I might just..." She trailed off, shooting her head with a finger gun.
"Hey! You never call me Oppa; it's only fair that someone does." Taehyung mumbled beside her.
"Why would I call you Oppa?" She asked him, her face tilting with a smirk.
"You know, because I am older than you and it's kind of cute. It's cute when she calls me anyway."
Kira frowned. "Speaking of her, who exactly is she?"
"She's the daughter of an important client I have here. I met her a few years ago; the first time I came here. I think she's fond of me."
"You don't say."
"In fact, she's very enthusiastic of marrying me."
At that, Kira paused. "What?"
"Ever since she saw me, she has been stubborn on marrying me in a few years." He chuckled.
"Uh huh." Kira narrowed her eyes. "Should I be worried?"
"Is my Minjee jealous?" he countered, raising his eyebrows.
"Of her? Slim chance."
"Actually, her father has been proposing it for a while too. Apparently, I get his whole company if I do so."
Kira gulped, blinking in disbelief.
"Ooh now you're definitely jealous." Taehyung teased her as her face flustered against her will. He was enjoying it all too much.
"I am not jealous. But I will kick your ass if you leave me off like this, especially after you dragged me out of my precious bed."
By this time, Yungmi had bought her hotdog and was heading back over to them.
"Don't worry; just consider this a fan service. I'll be back before you even blink." He winked at her. Biggest lie ever. Kira lost count of time as she eventually started getting bored; bored enough that she considered selling her soul for fun.
She looked around and started observing people. Most of them were families, taking enthusiastic kids on rides while the others consisted of couples and people who came for the sake of pictures. She was looking at a random woman feeding some pigeons when her eyes landed on a particularly handsome man. She had to squint to make sure it was really him when the familiarity hit her like a truck.
"What is he doing here?!" Kira gasped loudly. "Jihun Oppa."
"Who now?" a curious Taehyung asked, standing right next to her. Kira flinched slightly out of surprise. She didn't realise that she had said that aloud, let alone that he heard her.
"Oh my god. I used to have a huge crush on that guy back in high school. I can't believe he is here"
Taehyung stood vigilantly now. He squint his eyes to look at where she was looking. Sure enough, a handsome man stood beside the rail, taking pictures of the beautiful blue and green.
"Huh. You used to have a crush on that guy? That guy?" He teased her.
Kira turned to scowl at him. "I am sorry; does he not look annoying enough for your taste?"
"How is it fair that he gets to be called Oppa?" He asked dragging her along to wherever Yungmi was taking them.
"Because he is Oppa material and I've known him since school."
"What does that even mean?!"
"We should probably get out of here." Said Kira ignoring the question.
"I agree." He replied.
It was like magic. One moment, he was there, dragging her and the next thing she knew, he was nowhere in sight.
Kira furrowed her brows, turning around in circles frantically searching for the loudest two people in the premises. As she walked around, trying to find them, she bumped onto a hard chest. How dramatically ironic, she was standing next to the very guy she was trying to avoid.
The change of expression on him was fun to watch. It started off with being annoyed, to smiling flirtatiously to scrunching up in recognition as he desperately tried to make out where he saw her from.
She decided to make things easier for him and let out a surprised laugh. "Jihun Sunbae?"
"Minjee? From high school? Weren't you my junior?" He smiled, relieved at finally recognising her.
'Yes mister obvious.' She thought as she smiled back warmly at him. He looked much more handsome than she could remember. He used to be one of the popular guys in school who seemed to be good at everything, naturally being the centre of attraction. He used to be in the same grade as Jin and constantly hung out with him on the privileged 'hot guys' table.
"How are you?! How's Jin? I haven't talked to him in a long while."
"I am fine. Jin is doing great too and yes, he's still annoyingly narcissistic." She said, referring to his 'flying kiss' ceremonies at school.
Jihun laughed at that and shook his head. "I should meet up with him when I get back. So, what do you do now?"
"I run a company. You know small business and stuff." Kira said casually. "What about you? Still on for photography?"
He laughed at her question. "As much as I wanted to, freelancing didn't quiet cover up my bills so I occasionally do modelling and I have just signed to act in a new drama."
"Really? That's amazing! You'd make a memorable male lead."
By this time, Taehyung had finally found her and decided to cut into the conversation. "There you are!"
Kira raised an eyebrow. "Jihun, these are my friends Taehyung and Yungmi." She said emphasising a little too much on 'Friends'.
"Whoa." Said Yungmi, her jaw hanging slightly open as she stared at Jihun.
"Hey." He said awkwardly. "I came with my friends too but I kind of felt like a third-wheel and left."
"Tell me about it!" Kira said, smirking at the couple beside her. "You know what; we don't mind an extra addition, why don't you spend the afternoon with us?"
***
Taehyung wasn't all too fond of having the new guy around. He hated admitting that Jihun was actually breathtaking. Maybe Yungmi's father wasn't worth enough, having to watch his girlfriend throw her head back in laughter with an annoyingly good-looking stranger. Taehyung, believe it or not, was a little jealous.
Kira was unusually giggly with the new guy. She would laugh at Jihun's jokes and comments which if said by him would have been replied with an epic eye roll. He observed as they stopped to take pictures of a laughing Kira, hiding her face in her hands as she shied away from his huge camera. Stupid camera.
Yungmi trailed her eyes from him to the couple and let out a sigh. "Is something bothering you, Oppa?"
"Tell me something, kiddo. Do you think he's good looking?"
Yungmi laughed at the question. "Hell yeah."
"But I am better looking, right?"
Yungmi stood silent and bit her lips, trying hard not to laugh again.
Taehyung's mouth gaped open in betrayal. "Yah! If you say I'm not, we're not getting married."
"That's okay." Said Yungmi dreamily. "I'll get married to Jihun Oppa."
"You little..." he started before Yungmi tugged at his sleeve. They stood behind a long line of people, waiting to board a roller coaster. Jihun and Kira stood right in front of them, their laughter catching the duo's attention.
"I was not that popular!"
"Yes you were! All the girls had a crush on you. Heck, I would be lying if I said I didn't have a huge one myself."
Despite the fact that it was his girlfriend who was hitting on someone else, Taehyung couldn't help but smile at how smooth that was.
"Really? You had a crush on me?" An amused smile played on Jihun's lips.
"I guess?"
"Huh, guess what?"
"What?"
"I used to have a huge crush on you too."
"What?!" Kira asked, her pitch emphasising her surprise. She seemed too lost in the conversation to notice the gaping Taehyung.
"Really? Me? 'The nerdy girl who was somehow friends with two of the hottest guys in school' me?"
"Are you kidding me? A lot of guys had a crush on you!" He exclaimed.
"Huh, funny I knew not a single one of them."
"Ah about that... It's probably because of Jin."
"You thought Jin and I were together?" Kira asked, already starting to feel sick.
"No no. He was pretty scary when it came to you. Once he caught a guy staring at you and Jin drove him insane to a point where he left school. So everyone was pretty scared of him. I was his friend which made it harder for me to say anything."
Kira scowled at the thought of it while Taehyung smiled like a lunatic as he found himself respecting Jin much more than before.
"That explains why I kept losing lab and study partners." She said, clicking everything into place.
They got onto the rollercoaster. It was then that Taehyung realised how high from the ground they were. It started off low and ascended as it smoothly glided over small hilltops. As it started getting higher, Taehyung watched as Jihun's tall frame leaned down to whisper something in Kira's ears. He could hear her soft gasps as they went above the magnificent view of the glinting sea and the fire of jealousy slowly stared to consume him.
"That's it." Taehyung said, taking Kira's hand when he finally found her alone. "We're leaving."
"Why?" Kira asked, smirking subtly.
"Because, I want to spend time with you. Alone."
"Oooh." Kira said, imitating him. "Are you jealous?"
"Yes." Taehyung replied blankly.
Kira had expected a game and his blatant confession threw her off guard. She blinked as she felt him pull her close. Her heart beat sped up as he took her face in his hands. His eyes seemed trained on her lips and he kissed them. Her concerns about being too PDA flew out of the window as he deepened the kiss, making her knees go week. When they pulled away, she breathed hard, her eyes unable to take them off of his.
"You're mine; just mine." He said sternly. As 'romantic' as it was supposed to be, her attention was distracted by the figure of a girl jogging towards them. Kira looked at Yungmi and then back at Taehyung.
He barely seemed to notice it and effortlessly pulled her in for another kiss. 'People have got to warn me before they do this' she thought and closed her eyes shut. He smiled at her as he pulled away. "And I am yours; just yours."
Kira blushed against her will, looking away, desperately trying to get a hold on herself.
"I'll meet you next time, kiddo." He said, leaving behind an open-mouthed Yungmi.
"I didn't get to tell her that pronouns were still on trend." Kira looked back, trying to find the girl. Taehyung chuckled and dragged her away before he lost a precious client.
In the end, they were left with sweet tastes, pictures, a new friend: the seaweed, beaches, and a handful of memories to take back home.
A/N: Long time no see! I had a huge event which kept me busy for months, especially the whole of October and November. When I finally got time to post, I felt like it was too cringy and had to re-write this again. Hopefully, I'll be back to my normal posting schedule from now. :)
