Breathless

Taehyung almost fled the country in fear. He was seconds away from speeding back to the comfortable neverland of his bed in full gear. 'Get a grip, you moron.' He muttered to himself as he turned off the ignition. He whipped out his phone and dialed her contact with shaky hands.

First Ring.

Nothing.

Second Ring.

His heart rate sped up.

Third Ring.

His eyes traveled to the cluster of windows on the wall of her apartment complex. She had waved to him a few times before from there and now, he precisely knew which one was hers. Darkness was the only thing that greeted him now.

Fourth Ring.

His hammering heart was screaming like a falsely imprisoned madman.

Fifth Ring.

His eyes dropped, his heart weighed heavy and he felt lightheaded; he almost pulled his phone away.

"Do you have any idea what time it is?"

Her groggy voice answered from the other line. "It's one, Taehyung and people like me usually sleep at one."

He could barely contain his excitement as he tried to speak casually. "Come out. And wear something warm."

He could almost hear her eyes rolling from the other side.

"Seriously? Did you not hear what I just said? No can do, pretty boy. Buh-bye."

And just like that, the line went into a monotonous beep.

He decided to wait. Something told him that women, no matter how strong-hearted, found it hard not to give into their curiosity.

Ten minutes passed; there was no sign of movement.

Twenty Minutes and it still looked dark.

On the thirtieth minute, the light flickered on and he saw a faint shadow move by.

Wanting to look cool, he hurriedly composed himself and leaned on the motorcycle. He tied his arms on his chest and tried for a smoulder. 'Lose the smoulder.' A voice said within him, and he quickly went for looking far away instead. He tried his best to act normal when he saw a bundled up figure pushing out through the huge glass door.

He smirked in triumph as he clearly saw her deliberate effort to not gawk at him.

"Geez man, do you never stop looking like a model? Like it's literally one thirty in the morning."

He could understand why she would say that. He was clad in a shiny black leather jacket with all sorts of other black garments he could find from his closet. Not to mention, his vehicle was a beast in all its Harley Davidson glory. He simply chuckled back in reply, partially afraid that he'd ruin his perfect demeanour by saying something senseless.

"Let's go. I really want to show you this place."

"I am giving up my sleep for this, it better be worth it." She scowled, struggling to get on to the wide seat of the bike.

'The place sure is worth it.' He thought, his only silent prayer was that he wouldn't mess it up.

He started the engine and took away, zooming through the mostly deserted road. He could feel the tension in her rigid posture and mentally cursed his guilty heart.

He observed as the city-scrape started descending into the familiar green. The tall buildings replaced with tall trees. The cold wind and the hum of the engine must have made her sleepy, for she leaned on him, her hands snaking around his waist while her head rested on his shoulders. That simple touch was enough to calm his frantic heart.

They stopped at what seemed like a cliff overlooking the city. He parked the bike nearby and took her hand as he led her to a small clearing, secluded from the rest of the area. The view below the cliff almost seemed invisible in the dark except for the few dots of remaining light that proved that it was a city. He spread a blanket on the soft grass and they sat on it.

"Why are we here?" Kira asked, looking around the wild clearing.

"It's a uh, surprise but the surprise is going to take a while so why don't we just lie down?" Taehyung asked expectantly with his wide doe eyes. Kira cursed her –now melting- stubborn heart as she nodded a yes.

He lied down, one arm underneath his head while the other moved to wrap around her shoulder, holding her close as his heartbeat resonated in her ears. As if it was planned all along, the sky was a splatter of shining silver on tinted blue- black like a child's glitter art. It was calming, sending a sudden surge of serenity through them both as they stared the sky with open mouths.

"Jungkook, Jimin and I came here often on guys' night out." He chuckled, probably thinking about one of their experiences. "We always got so drunk; we were blind to the starry sky."

Kira thought about it for a while. "It seems to me guys are way more romantic on their bro-nights."

Taehyung laughed at her comment. "You should see how drunken Jimin gets all cute with us. This one time, he wouldn't let go of my jacket because it reminded him of his old cat."

"I have seen it alright; Jimin is irresistibly cute when he gets drunk but sometimes it gets a little too annoying." Kira agreed.

They went silent for a while, appreciating the star studded sky. A mutual sense of affection hung in the air.

"Say, isn't that Orion?" She asked pointing at a group of shaped stars.

"It must be. I can see three stars in a straight line which is his belt." Taehyung assumed.

"Hey hey, that one looks like a happy lion if you look at this way." She said, tilting her head to the right.

Taehyung mimicked her. "It's true, and it even looks like me."

"You? A lion? No way." Kira muttered.

"Ooh, if you look at that one, it looks like a tiny angry monkey." He said, pointing at one, close to the 'lion'.

"Now that resembles you." She said, giggling like a three year old.

"How so? It resembles you more! A tiny short tempered monkey." Taehyung said, pinching her nose. Kira pouted but ended up laughing along with him anyway. They spent a long while, finding odd patterns in the sky and teasing each other.

She was about to make a snarky comment when he started humming. His deep voice always managed to catch her off-guard and she didn't notice the tiny gasp escaping her mouth.

He sang a few words in-between, transitioning smoothly between lyrics and music. He sang of someone who was unbelievably pretty, occasionally comparing them to a butterfly, pleading them to never leave his fragile heart. His body vibrated peacefully under her as he sang of its beauty.

At that moment, Kira felt like she could forget all about her trivial worries. She felt like his music was enough to keep her close without saying the words she hoped to hear. The soft wind, his soothing presence, the serene stars and her confused heart let her floating, free of all its tension. It fluttered like a butterfly, uncaring and unknowing of its own beauty, just like the one in the song.

"Minjee, wake up." She heard him saying and her dozy mind was brought back to the cliff. The pinkish orange colour in the sky told her that it was early morning and she blinked a few times as it slowly focused on the guy sitting expectantly next to her.

"The surprise is almost here." He said as he helped her up. The sleepiness that was holding her back vanished the moment her eyes were set on the view before her.

They stood by the edge of the cliff, staring off into the sky. Slowly, as if coming out of a shy hiding, the sun started ascending. The colours were more vivid, it's orange setting every cloud and particle ablaze with its unnatural beauty. The view was simply breathtaking.

The sun rising, the sun setting, stargazing, gentle lapping of waves, and cold wind on the mountains: there was something about these everyday beauties of nature that just made it incredibly romantic. Calling nature poets 'romantic' made a lot more sense now. Nature loves us, and when we love it back, it helps us share that love in the most beautiful way possible, connecting us to others.

Her breath hitched as she took in the pretty view. She had seen beautiful sunrises and sunsets before but this certain one captured her heart in a way she couldn't explain.

"Whoa. This is beautiful." Kira breathed, mouth wide open as she gaped at the pretty sight.

"Minjee..." Taehyung started, his eyes focused on the emerging golden orb.

He seemed nervous, his hands were fidgeting and lips seemed to quiver a little.

"I- the pretty sunset and- makes you no me happy- but surreal-I feel as if." Kira cocked an eyebrow at him, making no head and tail of what he was trying to say.

"Damn it, I had a fancy speech prepared and now that I am here with you, I can't even remember a word. I am ruining the perfect moment by talking."

Kira touched his arms since he still refused to meet her eyes. Whatever he wanted to say, she didn't want to force it. And so, she remained silent but willed him to look at her, her cheeks smiling in encouragement.

His eyes met hers and she could almost hear him sighing as they softened.

"I love you, Minjee."

"I know that I love you but my foolish heart keeps trying to run away. But when I look into your eyes, I know. I know that I love you more than anything in the world that makes me happy because you make me the happiest."

It was as if someone had paused time. Kira stood there, marvelling at his simple words with the picture painted before them. She could all but notice his eyes trained on her as his words whispered magic. It was only when his soft lips touched hers that she was awakened from her trance. She smiled against his lips, his hands coming to cup her cheeks.

"There. That right there? That was perfect.... you smooth jerk."

Taehyung chuckled in response.

"And by the way, I love you too."

They both realised how such simple words could bring such large amount of joy as they stood there, grinning from ear to ear.

A crow announced its arrival, startling the couple out of their moment. They threw their heads back in fits of laughter, leaving a very judgemental crow.

A/N: I am feeling unnaturally happy today so I've decided to bless ya'll with a few aesthetic pictures of Tae with pretty sky. :)
