the secret is out
*Henry finds out about the Monica Lewinsky affair! Thank you to ReneeThornton8 for helping me write this! Enjoy!*
2007
Henry barges into Bill's office and is fuming inside. His blood is boiling and he can barely hold his composure and his anger.
Henry never thought he would be this angry at any one of his parents but he's angry, hurt and betrayed at what he just found out about this father, a secret that was kept until now,
Henry decides to Google his dad because he's curious on what will come up. The usual things come up, his presidency, his years as governor of Arkansas, the Clinton foundation, the Clinton library and many other things Henry already knows about his dad.
But something keeps coming up that he doesn't understand or even remembers happening. And that is Bill's affair with White House Intern Monica Lewinsky. When this happened in 1998, Henry was just five years old and wasn't told about it by Hillary or Bill, they only told Chelsea.
Henry remembers Bill sleeping on the couch for a little bit, he remembers seeing a few arguments between his parents, but what kid hasn't? He also remembers a man coming to the house to talk to his mom, dad and sister. Henry remembers Hillary and Chelsea crying sometimes and other times his dad crying. They mostly talked and Henry just sat there and played with his toys or was taken out for the day by the Gores. Henry never really put any thought to this... until now.
Henry reads the whole entire Wikipedia article about it the affair, watched the infamous "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" video, then the infamous video of Bill telling everyone the truth. Then he finds out that's the reason Bill got impeached and almost thrown out of office because he lied.
"Dad! What the hell were you thinking?!" Henry says while yelling at his Dad.
Bill looks up at his work papers in utter confusion, confused on what Henry was even talking about.
"What are you talking about, son? And hello by the way. I see you finally woke up at 2pm." Bill says to Henry, causing Henry to roll his eyes.
"Don't joke around with me, Dad! YOU CHEATED ON MOM? Why? Why would you do that?" Henry asks Bill.
"I haven't cheated on your mom! And if someone told you that, then they are freaking lying." Bill says to Henry.
"Thens what's this video that's on YouTube? Saying you didn't have "sexual relations" with a lady. Miss Monica? I REMEMBER MISS MONICA! She was so nice to me! You had sex with her? You did things with her? SHE WAS LIKE A KID, DAD!" Henry yells at Bill.
Bill looks at Henry and realizes that Henry found out about his infamous affair that nearly destroyed his marriage to Hillary.
"Why did you and Mom not tell me about this?" Henry asks in anger.
"Because Henry, you were five years old when this happened. You wouldn't have understood anything. The therapist said to not tell you anything until you were older." Bill says, trying to figure what to say or do right now.
"It doesn't matter! You hurt my mama and my sister's hearts. Now I'm about to hurt you!" Henry says as he starts to ball his fists in anger.
"Henry! You better cut it out right now! We can talk about this and I'll explain everything to you. You are old enough now to understand." Bill says to Henry.
"So you, mom and Chelsea just kept this a freaking secret and you all just thought this was fine?" Henry asks Bill in anger as he bangs on Bill's desk.
"Henry!" Bill yells as he gets up from his desk.
Just as Hillary enters the house, she hears her husband and son having an argument. Listening to the conversation, she knew what just happened. Henry found out about the scandal.
"Kenneth? James? I need you two to come with me right now. I have a bad feeling about this." Hillary asks two of her Secret Service agents.
Hillary, Kenneth and James quickly walks over to Bill's office. Hillary sees Henry and Bill both standing up and screaming at each other.
"WHY DID MAMA STAY WITH YOU? YOU CHEATED ON HER MORE THAN ONCE?" Henry yells at Bill.
"Let me explain and stop yelling at me!" Bill yells back at Henry.
"SO YOU DID!" Henry yells loudly.
Right after saying that, Henry starts to try to punch his dad in a fit of rage but Bill manages to duck.
"YOU SON OF A BITCH!" Henry screams at the top of his lungs.
"HENRY! BILL! What the hell is going on?" Hillary yells as Kenneth and James separate the two Clinton men.
"Mom! Why didn't you tell me that dad freaking cheated on you? Why didn't you leave him? That's so embarrassing!" Henry yells at Hillary.
"You're right. It is. But I still loved your Dad despite what he did. But more importantly, I thought about you and your sister and how much us getting a divorce would've affected you two." Hillary explains to Henry.
Henry rolls his eyes at both his mother and his father.
"But if Dad loved you he wouldn't have cheated." Henry says to Hillary as he is still very angry.
"You don't understand a damn thing, Henry! If you would just shut up and listen I would have told you everything! But you won't too running your damn mouth! You didn't have the childhood I had growing up! It causes you to do things!" Bill says to Henry.
"Well, my two parents are politicians and one was president and you don't see me doing anything like that." Henry says as Bill gets ready to smack him.
"BILL STOP!" Hillary yells as she grabs Bill's arms.
"Tell our son that. He's not listening at all!" Bill says to Hillary and Hillary gets annoyed.
"You two need to cut it out right now! I'm home for the weekend and I don't need this nonsense!" Hillary yells at her husband and son.
"Nonsense? You, dad and Chelsea all kept this a freaking secret and didn't say anything? When were you gonna say something?" Henry yells at Hillary.
"Don't yell at your mother! That's disrespectful!" Bill yells at Henry.
"Yeah! But cheating is okay?" Henry asks Bill and Hillary screams in anger at this argument.
"We never planned on a specific age! We were gonna tell you sooner than later! Henry, you were five years old when all of this went down! You wouldn't have gotten it like you do now! When we all calm down, I'll tell you me parts and dad can say his. Your father and I worked extremely hard to be where we are today. Lots of counseling. Henry, you will learn this when you get older and find a special someone. You don't give up on someone you truly love with all of your heart." Hillary says to Henry.
"Mom, Dad. I freaking hate you!!!" Henry yells as he goes to his room and and slams the door closed
Hillary and Bill look at each other shocked that their son said that to them. Her eyes starts to well up with tears and Bill hugs her from behind. Letting her know that she could cry.
"I think that's one of the rare times Henry said that he hates me and you. Honey, I don't know what to do." Hillary says as she starts to cry uncontrollably.
"I don't either, darlin'. But let's just have him calm down. He'll calm down sooner or later, he just stubborn and hot headed like me." Bill says to Hillary.
"How did this even come up?" Hillary asks Bill, confused on what has happened.
"I guess he was googling my name or your name and it comes up. We shouldn't have gave him that damn laptop." Bill says to Hillary with a huff.
"Bill, he needed it for school and plus he is a teen now. I didn't know he would be googling us." Hillary says to Bill.
"Well, if I was in his shoes I would have. I would be curious." Bill says to Hillary.
"I guess that's what happens when Wikipedia has existed since 2001." Hillary says with a frown on her face.
"Do you or the Senator need anything else, Mr. President?" Kenneth asks him and the First Lady.
"I don't think so. You two go ahead and head out and we'll let you know if we need anything." Bill says to the two agents head out the door.
Right after they leave, Hillary starts to cry uncontrollably again. She's still in disbelief that her son said that he hated her.
"I'm sorry, Hill. I'm really sorry. If I didn't do what I did, none of this would have happened." Bill says softly as he hugs Hillary tightly.
"I know. And I'm sorry for raising my voice at you." Hillary says with tears still in her eyes.
The two do nothing but hold each other for ten minutes on Bill's couch in his office. Then, Hillary says something.
"Honey, how about we go downstairs and get some glasses of water? Our throats are probably so dry from all the yelling." Hillary asks her husband as she finally calms down.
"Sure, darlin'." Bill says to Hillary as he and Hillary get up from the couch.
Hillary kisses Bill twice and hugs him tightly.
"I love you, Bill. I want you to know that and I want you to know that I will never regret staying with you." Hillary says as she rubs his cheeks.
"And I love you. And I'm incredibly grateful that you stayed." Bill whispers as he kisses his wife's forehead
"Should we check on Henry? I'm just worried." Hillary says to Bill.
"Worried about what, sweetheart?" Bill asks Hillary.
"I just don't want Henry to do something bad." Hillary says and Bill looks at her in confusion but then figures out what she means.
"Why do you think he would do that? He is a happy child." Bill says to Hillary.
"I know he is, but those teen hormones can make you think all kinds of things. And especially learning this big news, you never know.
"You're right! Let's bring the glasses of water with us after we come from downstairs. He's probably gonna want one too after what he put us through." Bill answers back to his wife as they head downstairs to get three glasses of ice water.
Bill and Hillary get their glasses of water before they head back upstairs. They slowly open the door to Henry's bed room and see that he cried himself to sleep. The tears are still on his face.
"Should we wake him up? I don't want his sleep schedule to be messed up. Spring break ends in a few days." Bill asks Hillary.
"I say yes. I don't want to think the worst has happened to him. I love my baby." Hillary says as she starts to tear up a little.
"I know you do and I love him too. Why don't you wake him up and talk to him. I'm sure he doesn't want to see me right now." Bill says to Hillary.
"No, don't be like that. You two are big boys and can talk this out. You two just need to learn to stop being hot heads." Hillary says to Bill.
"You're right. When you're angry and arguing with someone, you can't think straight." Bill says with a sigh.
Hillary and Bill both walk into Henry's bedroom, with Hillary sitting on the edge of Henry's bed.
"Henry? Wake up." Hillary whispers as she nudges him awake.
"Mom? Dad?" Henry asks groggily as he wakes up.
"Hi, sleepy." Hillary says with a small smile.
"Hey, son." Bill says to his son.
"I didn't mean to say I hate you. I'm sorry!" Henry says as he hugs his mom and starts to cry uncontrollably.
"We know you are. That's it, baby. Just let it all out. Shhhhhh...." Hillary whispers to her crying boy.
Henry hates it when Hillary calls him baby since he is almost fourteen, but at this moment he doesn't care.
Henry slowly calms down as Hillary continues to hug him and rub his back.
Bill tears up watching his wife and son together, his wife being the mom he wished his mom was when he was Henry's age and younger.
"Your sleep schedule is all messed up! But you have a few more days to fix it before school starts up again." Hillary says to Henry causing Henry to giggle.
"I know. And Dad, I'm sorry for raising my voice and hitting you. It wasn't right." Henry says with a calmer voice.
"I'm sorry too, son. We were just so angry at each other that we couldn't think straight. Come here." Bill says as he opens his arms about and Henry gives him a hug.
"Dad and I are really sorry we didn't tell you about this. Honestly, we haven't thought about it in years and if we do, it's when it's brought up by the media. I don't want you to think Dad and I wanted to hide this from you on purpose because we didn't. We were focused on you and Chelsea, our family, Same with Chelsea. Chelsea didn't want to tell you and make you upset but she did tell both Dad and I a year or so ago to tell you since you are older now. You know your sister is smarter than all of us that way." Hillary says, causing Bill and Henry to both chuckle.
"What I did really hurt your mom as well as Chelsea. Neither one of them like to talk about it, they actually hate it. It's the past and we all have moved on. We didn't mean to make it seem like it was a secret. You were just a little kid when this happened. I'm sure you remember things being different for a little bit when you were five. That's why. Because of the affair. However, your mom and I worked through the struggles and other things we have had for years due to our busy and crazy lives. I also had a lot of work to do for myself to make me a better person and to heal from things that happened to me when I was your age now and younger. You have no idea how many times I have apologized to your mother and sister about this." Bill says to Henry.
"Dad, I forgive you. And I forgive you too mom. It was just a lot to take in when I saw it. I now know that you kept this mostly a secret from me until I was old enough to understand. Can I have some water? My throat is dry from all the yelling and crying." Henry says to his parents.
"Here you go. I knew you would be thirsty. See Bill? I'm always right." Hillary says joking with Bill and Bill smiles.
"Of course you are. Well, almost." Bill playfully says to his wife.
"And I want you to know that I chose to stay with your dad because I love him very much and I know we had something to fight for. I would have left if I didn't. You and Chelsea were one reason but I had other reasons too. Your dad is the love of my life. One day you will find your love of your life. But I told you before the several conditions that you have to leave a relationship, like when it's dangerous or not healthy. Cheating is different circumstance for everyone. Some people it's a relationship breaker and other people it's not. And if that's a relationship breaker for you than that's you, your dad and I will respect that." Hillary says to Henry.
"It's a breaker for Chelsea, that's for sure." Bill says to Henry.
"Well, than Marc is perfect for her! I don't why they just don't get married they have known each other forever." Henry says, not understanding how relationships work just yet since he is an eighth grader whose only had a girlfriend that lasted two weeks.
"Tell your mother that! Made me ask her three times." Bill says as Hillary blushes and laugh.
"It's important to get engaged and married when you are ready because when you aren't ready it can cause problems in the relationship and sometimes breakups. Marc and Chelsea aren't ready yet and that's completely fine." Hillary says to Henry.
"Right. Mom, I wanna talk to Dad one on one of that ok with you." Henry says to Hillary
"Sure. I'll take the glasses downstairs. You two need to talk things out just a little more. I'll be back to check on you two hardheads." Hillary says as she kisses Henry on the cheek and her husband on the lips before leaving her sons' room.
Hillary decided to call Chelsea while she's downstairs and discussed with her daughter what just happened. Chelsea's thankful her Dad and brother were stopped before they could really hurt each other because this could've been a totally different outcome.
Chelsea tells her mom that her and Marc will come by tomorrow to check on them. After 15 minutes, Hillary ends the phone call and realized that she doesn't hear her husband and son talking upstairs anymore.
After turning all the lights off downstairs except for a night light, she heads upstairs. She takes a peek into Henry's room only to find her boys asleep in his bed. She kisses them both on the forehead before leaving the room and heading to bed herself. Tired from all the craziness from today.
