a little surprise in the family (pt 1)
*The Clinton's have a new person in their family and it's not who you think! Thank you to ReneeThornton8 for helping me write this! Enjoy! Love • Bree ❤️
October 22nd, 2022
The past almost two weeks have been unbelievable for Bill and Hillary.
On October 11th, their forty seventh wedding anniversary, they welcomed a surprise baby girl: Hope Dorothy Virginia Clinton.
Bill and Hillary only found out about this baby girl a few days prior after Hillary was experiencing some stomach pains and a little bit of bleeding.
For almost two weeks, Hope was in the NICU, learning how to eat and keep her temperature up. The doctors believe she was between thirty three to thirty six weeks gestation, but can't pin it down since Hillary doesn't have menstrual cycles anymore.
A week after Hope was born, Hillary managed to convince everyone to let her go to Japan for the World Assembly for Women and the 33rd Premium Imperiale. Her doctors said yes since she healed up really good from her c-section and didn't have any other health issues. But they told her to not doing anything strenuous or heavy lifting.
Today, Hillary came home from Japan and got the call from Bill that baby Hope passed her car seat test and they're able to take her home. So Secret Service drove her to the hospital right away.
A huge crowd was in front of the hospital waiting to see a glimpse of the newest Clinton. Along with Chelsea and Henry who got the word out to the people of New York that their sister was coming home.
Once Bill, Hillary, and Hillary and Hope's Doctors stepped outside of the main Hospital doors with Hillary holding Hope, the crowd was cheering, holding up signs, and were just showing them with love. Much to their shock!
Chelsea and Henry immediately walked up to their parents to hug them and look at their baby sister.
"I had no clue all these people were waiting outside? How did this happen?" Hillary asks her two adult children.
"Well, once Dad called Henry and I this morning that Hope could go home, we knew we had to get people to show up and support you. That's what Americans do!" Chelsea answers.
"I second that. Are y'all surprised?" Henry asks his parents.
"Very surprised. And also grateful. How about we pose for pictures?" Hillary says with a grin.
"That's a great idea!" Bill says as the Clinton's start to smile for the cameras. Except for Hope, she's just sleeping through it all.
After some pictures, the five just wave to the crowd. As usual, the people want to hear the Former President and Secretary of State speak. So one of her doctors got the microphone and speaker to where the Clintons were standing.
"Thank you all so much! I enjoyed my trip to Japan, but I'm glad to be back in New York to bring our daughter home. Bill and I just want to say thank you to all the medical staff and Hope's NICU team for taking such good care of us. And to all of our fellow Americans, thank you for the love and support via phone calls, texts messages, social media and everything else in between!" Hillary says happily.
"Hope's arrival came as a shock to our entire family, but we're so glad she here and she's healthy now. We didn't imagine having a baby at our ages, but here we are." Bill says, causing everyone to laugh.
"I agree. And Hope is thankful for all of you too. Right, baby?" Hillary asks her daughter who yawns in response, causing the crowd to awe in amazement.
"I'll be turning 75 years old next week and needless to say, Hope is the best early birthday gift and anniversary gift we ever got. But now, we're just going to head home and relax this weekend and then it's party time Monday night! One more thing, Midterm elections are coming up in November so don't forget to vote. Thank you very much!" Hillary says in closing and the people cheer as they get into the SUV for the drive home. Henry and Chelsea following right behind them in the car Henry him and his sister in. Along with the Secret Service.
After about an hour drive, the Clintons arrive back home in Chappaqua. After helping their parents settle in, the two older Clinton siblings decide to head for home.
"If you two need anything, just call." Chelsea says as she hugs her mom, who's holding her baby sister.
"Oh, we will." Bill says to his daughter.
"Love you Dad. And Hope, you be a good girl for Mommy and Daddy. I might call you later tonight before you go to bed. How does that sound?" Henry asks Hope and she coos at her brother in response.
"I think she'll like that. She loves her big brother and sister." Hillary says with a grin.
"And we love her too." Chelsea says in response to her mother.
Once one of the Secret Service agents takes a couple more family pictures, the five have a group hug and the two adult kids finally head out. Chelsea and Henry waving goodbye to their parents as they drive away.
-
After a busy few hours getting settled with Hope and quickly building a swing, changing station and bassinet for Hope to use until they get everything else set up for her, Bill and Hillary are finally relaxing together in the living room.
Hillary is sitting on the couch, resting her feet with a pillow on the ottoman. Even though it's been almost two weeks since Hope's arrival, Hillary still has a little bit of swelling in her legs and feet.
Bill is sitting close to Hillary and is feeding Hope her bottle, holding her close to his chest.
"Make sure you burp her half way." Hillary says softly with a smile.
Bill places the baby bottle between him and Hillary and he carefully puts Hope on his shoulder to burp her. After a few pats on the back, Hope burps.
"Good job, baby girl. Do you want some more? Are you still hungry?" Bill asks Hope in a high pitched tone as he lays her between his legs.
Hope coos and wiggles around as Bill and Hillary watch her in amazement that she even exists.
"She looks hungry, look at her sucking her fingers, Billy." Hillary says with a grin.
"Just like Chels did. Okay baby girl, here's the rest of your bottle." Bill says as he puts Hope in his arms once more and begins to feeds Hope again.
Hillary takes a few pictures of Bill and Hope together, probably the 1000th she has taken since October 11th.
"Darling, why don't you go upstairs and take a nice warm shower and relax for a little bit. I got Hope. We are going to finish this bottle and watch some sports, I've missed a lot." Bill says as Hillary smiles and giggles.
Hillary knows Bill has been missing his sports while she and Hope were in the hospital and NICU, there wasn't a TV in there. Plus, Bill was extremely focused on Hillary and Hope.
"You are seriously the best. Thank you." Hillary says as she kisses Bill twice.
"You're welcome, darling. I'm so happy you are home. You shouldn't have even went to Japan but you are my stubborn girl. Now I want you to rest." Bill says and Hillary smiles.
Hillary carefully gets up off of the couch and slowly walks upstairs.
"Be careful, Hill. If you need anything, I'll come up!" Bill says to Hillary.
"Sure thing. You two stay out of trouble, you hear me?" Hillary playfully asks her husband and daughter.
"Oh, we will. Right, princess?" Bill asks his daughter as she continues drinking her bottle.
Forty Five Minutes Later
Hillary slowing descends the steps, one by one, careful to not hurt herself or cause her incision to have any issues.
Hillary gets some iced tea from the refrigerator and she slowly walks over to the living room.
Hillary sees that Bill is watching a cornhole tournament, something she finds hilarious ever since he started watching it during the beginning of covid quarantine.
Hillary walks around to sit down on the couch and she sees Bill sprawled out in his back, fast asleep and slightly snoring.
One arm is behind his head while his other arm is touching Hope's bassinet.
Meanwhile in the bassinet, Hope is contently awake, quietly enjoying the lullaby music that is playing and is sucking on her favorite blue pacifier.
"Hey, princess. What are you doing up? Is Daddy sleeping? You two took a nap together, huh? It's bedtime, sweet girl." Hillary asks her daughter before picking her up.
Hope coos and yawns in response before laying her head on her mom's chest.
"I thought so. God I love you so much." Hillary says softly before kissing her daughter on the forehead and sitting on the couch.
Bill is suddenly startled awake when he doesn't feel Hope in the bassinet and nearly jumps off the couch.
"I'm awake. I'm awake!" Bill says in a somewhat sleepy and startled tone of voice, causing Hillary to chuckle.
"Hello there, sleepy head. I got her. I got her. Did you sleep good?" Hillary playfully asks her husband.
"I didn't mean to fall asleep like that. She fell asleep after her bottle and I just wanted to lay down since my back was hurting a little. Jesus, you scared me I thought Hope went missing!" Bill says, feeling his heart pounding in his chest and it slow down back to normal.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you! I just wanted to hold Hope some and try to get her back to sleep. We almost have her nights and days on track just about even though that doesn't really matter since she is a newborn." Hillary says as she rubs Hope's back.
"She finished her whole bottle this time, baby girl was hungry. That means we can sleep tonight!" Bill says and Hillary chuckles, knowing Bill has forgotten they have to wake Hope up to eat so she gains weight just like any other baby would.
"The doctors said to get her up every three hours to eat since that works best for her and her tummy. She isn't like when Henry and Chelsea were babies and woke up crying to tell us just yet. She's still a little premature." Hillary says as she yawns.
"Let me do the feedings tonight. You need your rest. I'm sure you are really jet lagged from your trip." Bill says as he rubs Hillary's back.
"A little, but I'll be fine to help. I slept a ton on the plane ride home. I missed you and Hope very much and I want to spend time with you two a little bit before we all head to bed." Hillary says to Bill and Bill nods.
"I think that's fair. The kids and grandkids are coming by tomorrow. It'll be Chelsea's kids first time meeting Hope face to face. I just hope they won't be jealous." Bill says, looking concerned at Hillary and Hope.
"No way. After all the times they've seen Hope in pictures and on FaceTime, they love her so much already. I can't wait to see them bond. But something tells me Charlotte may not want to share her with Aidan and Jasper." Hillary says with a smile.
"Right. We know how she is when it comes to babies. Are the Gores coming too?" Bill asks her
"Yup! They'll be flying in from Virginia tomorrow morning and be here tomorrow afternoon. Tipper has been bombarding my phone with text messages over Hope's arrival! But who can blame her? Her and Al are excited and bought a bunch of things for her!" Hillary says happily.
"We though it was bad when Henry was a baby and they spoiled him so much? We haven't seen nothing yet. Especially since Hope was a surprise to everyone!" Bill says looking at his wife with big eyes
"I can't wait to see what they bought for her. I'm sure it's a lot! They've been buying things for babies all over the place these past few months. The most recent being their new twin grandsons." Hillary says happily
"Little Al's boys. It's really cool they have four Alberts now!" Bill says with a smile.
"Well we could have had a William Jr you know!" Hillary says playfully to Bill and Bill chuckles.
"I didn't want a junior. I was the third before I changed my last name to Clinton. Henry needed his own name and identity, and I think Chelsea picked the perfect name out for him." Bill says to Hillary.
"She did and it fits him very well just like Chelsea's name does. I know we had Hope picked out for a second child for ages now and I'm glad we finally got to use it. Our little Hope." Hillary says, kissing Hope's forehead as Hope yawns again.
"And Hope is a special girl because she has two middle names because Daddy and Mommy couldn't decide! Huh?" Bill says in a babyfied voice at Hope and Hope coos, getting sleepier but still awake.
"We couldn't just choose one. Chelsea's name was easy because it was two names we really liked and we had special meaning. As for Henry, Chelsea did half of the work on his name even though we debated on his middle name." Hillary says as Bill chuckles again.
"I still like Rodham better but you win." Bill says playfully and Hillary giggles.
"William is better!" Hillary says playfully and Bill giggles.
"Hopey, isn't Mommy stubborn?" Bill says in a babyfied voice at Hope and Hope coos.
"We had to honor both of our moms, they are both gone now." Hillary says with a loud, sad sigh.
Bill rubs Hillary's back before tenderly kissing her cheek.
"You know they would have loved her and they are watching over her. I mean look at her, she's perfect." Bill says, smiling down at Hope who closed her eyes.
"I think she's almost asleep. Thankfully she didn't get the 'wakes up to every noise' gene from Daddy." Hillary says as Bill giggles.
"Henry grew out of that! Chelsea too!" Bill says causing Hillary to smile.
"Considering that Henry was surrounded by noise almost all the time as a baby because of you being President, I'm surprised he grew out of it." Hillary says playfully.
"Exactly. He even slept through my State of the Union speech in 1994. That is, until he started to cry with fifteen minutes to go because he wanted me." Bill says while smiling.
"Right? And then, all eyes were on him. The cutest baby boy in America. Your policies and his cuteness made your approval rating go up after that." Hillary says while giggling at the memory.
"How's Tipper doing? I know she gets monitored closely by the doctors." Bill says.
"She's doing great! Her pregnancy has been pretty smooth. The doctors think she will make it to their target date they set for Jack to be born. Hope will have a playmate in a few weeks." Hillary says as she and Bill smile at each other.
"Jack is so spoiled already it sounds like. Al said all of the kids have bought Jack a lot of stuff. And we did too, so now we need to spoil Hope!" Bill says playfully to Hillary.
"We are spoiling Hope! You don't want to know how much I've spent on Hope this past week." Hillary says to Bill.
"Please don't tell me. It will give me a heart attack!" Bill says playfully.
Hillary kisses Bill a few times before they both look down at Hope to see that she is finally asleep.
"Mommy has the magic touch, huh?" Bill says with a grin.
"I do? Oh, yeah. I do. She's a sweetheart." Hillary says softly.
"Just like her big sister and brother, who we both love very much. And our magic touches led to this baby girl being made and brought into our lives." Bill says with a smile before kissing his wife on the cheek
"Around five more weeks, mister." Hillary says as she smirks at Bill and Bill frowns.
"Well, I've waited longer than that before." Bill says as he gets up off of the couch.
"Where are you going?" Hillary says as she pouts playfully.
"Looking for the dogs. Where's Maisie and Tally?" Bill asks Hillary, looking around for their two small dogs.
"They are upstairs in their beds sleeping." Hillary says to Bill with a chuckle.
"But who knows what they could be up to now? Those dogs can sometimes have a mind of their own. You ready to go to bed?" Bill asks his wife.
"Yes. Today has been a long one. Not only with me coming home from Japan, but we were able to bring our baby girl home." Hillary says with a smile while looking down at a sleeping Hope.
"Do you want me to carry her upstairs? I want you to hold onto the railing." Bill says to Hillary.
Hillary nods and carefully hands Hope to Bill. Bill holds her close to him, kissing her head, causing Hillary to smile.
Hillary, Bill and Hope all walk upstairs and into their bedroom. Maisie and Tally are cuddling on their big dog bed together, asleep and a bassinet is set up on Bill's side of the bed.
"Baby hog I see. Having the bassinet on your side." Hillary says playfully to Bill.
"No, I didn't know if it could fit on your side with your vanity and the dresser." Bill says to Hillary.
"It can, we just have to move the dresser over some, the vanity could stay where it is. Something we have been trying to do for years but forgetting or busy with life." Hillary says as Bill nods, knowing he should have done this a long time ago.
"Well, Marc and Henry can move both of them for us tomorrow. That away, Hope can be on your side too." Bill says as he carefully places Hope in her bassinet.
Hillary walks behind Bill and hugs his arm and lays her head on Bill's shoulder.
"I still can't believe she is real." Hillary whispers softly.
"Believe it. And we're stuck with her until the day we make our transitions, which won't be happening anytime soon. If I have any other reason why I gotta keep my health in check, she's it." Bill softly says back to his wife.
"Well, I better be a reason too." Hillary says playfully causing Bill to smile:
"Of course you are, darling. Always." Bill says as he holds Hillary in his arms and kisses her head.
"Let me set some alarms so I wake up to feed her." Hillary says making alarms on her iPhone.
"I thought I was doing the feedings?" Bill asks Hillary.
"We can take turns." Hillary says and she and Bill agree.
Bill and Hillary brush their teeth and they both get in bed together.
"Goodnight, Hillary. I love you." Bill says softly.
"I love you too." Hillary says back before giving him a big kiss.
The two finally turn off the lights and go to sleep after a long day for both of them.
The Next Day
9am
Bill is currently making himself and Hillary some breakfast while Hillary is still fast asleep upstairs. Hillary did a feeding while Bill did two plus one just now.
Hope is in her bouncer on the kitchen counter so Bill can watch her and so the dogs won't lick her 24/7. Maisie and Tally are very interested in their baby sister. Hope is awake and is just looking around the room.
"I know newborn eyes can't see well yet but you always know where Daddy is huh? Are you a daddy's girl like your sister?" Bill says, kissing Hope's head.
Hope coos up at Bill and Bill smiles at her.
Maisie and Tally all dance around Bill, wanting more food.
"You two just ate. I gave you two more than Mommy does." Bill says to the dogs.
The two small dogs start to bark at Bill.
"Hey! Calm down. We don't wanna wake Mommy up, right? Sit." Bill says sternly while pointing his finger down and the two dogs obey without question.
"Good girls." Bill says with a smile.
Hope grunts a little and her face gets a little red.
"Uh oh, are you giving Daddy a stinky diaper? Hmm? Let me get everything out of the pan and then I'll change you, okay?" Bill says, negotiating with a newborn.
After Bill gets everything on a big serving plate, Bill takes Hope to the living room and places her on the couch to change her diaper.
He's able to change her without too much trouble and by the time he's done, he hears Hillary coming downstairs.
"You hear that? Mommy's coming and she can't wait to see you." Bill says to Hope and she starts to coo at her dad. The two then walk back to the kitchen and see Hillary at the table waiting for them.
"Good morning, darling!" Bill says as he smiles at Hillary and waves Hope's little hand.
"Hope says good morning, Mommy! I peed on Daddy!" Bill says in a babyfied voice, kissing her little cheek.
Hillary giggles and smiles at Hope and Bill. Hillary has always loved seeing Bill with babies so seeing Bill these past almost two weeks with Hope has made her heart melt.
"Good morning. Why did you turn all of my alarms off?" Hillary asks Bill sternly.
"Because I wanted you to rest, darling. Your body clock still has to adjust being in the current time zone again, after being in Japan who's 13 hours ahead." Bill answers back
"I guess you have a point. I did need all that sleep. I don't want to look too exhausted in front of our family today." Hillary says with a smile.
"The matriarch of our family." Bill says as he kisses Hillary once more.
Maisie and Tally run over to Hillary and Hillary pets them both before looking up at Hope.
"Hi, Hopey! You look like a happy girl this morning." Hillary says as she looks at Hope who is comfortable in Bill's arms.
"She is a happy girl! She drank her whole bottle and she took a little cat nap. But she has been watching me cook us breakfast. Right, sweet girl?" Bill says as Hope coos.
"I made us some French toast for breakfast! I know you liked it when we were in the hospital. I hope mine tastes better." Bill says as he rocks his body a little because Hope really enjoys that.
"Mmm, that sounds good. And why is the bouncer up here? It doesn't go up there you know." Hillary says as she picks the bouncer up and places it on the floor.
"Maisie and Tally kept licking Hope so I put her on the counter and plus I wanted to look at her while I cooked." Bill says.
"You could stare at her for hours without realizing it. And I don't think you'd care." Hillary says playfully.
"Nope. Hope is the baby princess of our family and we're happy to have her. And the whole country is too." Bill says as Hope grabs his finger.
"Daddy's girl from the start. I remember when we came out of the hospital with her. There was a big crowd of well wishers cheering for us and photographers getting the perfect pictures! Just like they did when Chelsea had her three kids!" Hillary says while looking at the pictures on her phone from yesterday.
"I agree. All the love and support we've been getting from people has been incredible! What time is everyone coming over?" Bill asks her.
"I got a text from this morning. Her and Al will be here at around 11:00. They have their own rental SUV, but since they're coming to see us, they're also gonna have a Secret Service escort to make sure they get here safely." Hillary explains to Bill.
"That makes sense. I know former VP's and their spouses don't have Secret Service for life like we do, but they got them at their beck and call should they need them." Bill says to Hillary.
Hillary smiles at Bill and Bill smiles back.
"Hopey, here's Mommy, I'm going to get Mommy and I's breakfast so we can eat and get ready for everyone to come over." Bill says as he hands Hope over to Hillary.
"We need to find you an outfit, girlfriend. We still need to build you a nice big wardrobe. But I think I know the perfect outfit for you to wear today." Hillary says as Hope coos some.
Bill brings over the platter full of French toast and scrambled eggs for himself and Hillary.
"Eat up, darling." Bill says with a grin.
"Thank you, Bill. You have been absolutely incredible these past few weeks with everything that has happened. You have nothing but supportive, loving and making sure I'm okay. I know this is a lot for us to take in having a newborn at this age and especially since we had no idea she was coming until a few days before. I love you so much." Hillary says, almost tearing up.
"Hill, look at me." Bill says as he holds Hillary's chin up and wipes her tears away.
"We have three beautiful children now, with this princess arriving on our wedding anniversary. In my opinion, Hope Dorothy Virginia Clinton is the best anniversary gift ever. I love you." Bill says before hugging his wife.
"I love you too." She says back before kissing him. But then, Hope starts to get fussy over not getting any attention.
"Somebody likes to be the center of attention huh? Mommy and Daddy's Princess!" Bill says to Hope as Hillary rocks her.
"She is a princess. But maybe she's hungry. Are you hungry? When did Daddy feed you last?" Hillary asks Hope softly as Hope calms down some.
"Almost two hours ago, maybe a little longer I've been doing a lot of things around the house while she watched." Bill says with a chuckle,
"Maybe she's hungry again." Hillary says as she gets ready to get up but Bill stops her.
"I'll make it, sit and eat." Bill says kissing Hillary and then Hope.
"You have the best Daddy, Hope. Yes you do. You are going to see your big sister and brother again! Today, you are going to meet your brother in law, sister in law, niece, nephews, Auntie Tipper, Uncle Al, Huma, Jordan, Mia's mom and sister. All of them love you so much." Hillary says to Hope and Hope fusses a little bit, indicating to Hillary that she's is hungry.
"Shh shh, it's okay. It's okay." Hillary says rocking Hope and she calms down for the time being.
"Okay, Okay. I'll make you a bottle, princess. I'll be right back." Bill says as he gets up to go make his daughter a bottle.
"Daddy loves to spoil us, right baby?" Hillary asks her daughter.
Maisie and Tally both sit by Hillary, wanting to look at Hope.
"I know you two want to see Hope! You can see her fine just where she is. I love that you two give her kisses but you two lick each other and that's icky." Hillary says to the dogs.
"One bottle for Hope Dorothy Virginia Clinton." Bill says, handing it to Hillary.
"Thank you, Daddy. Mmm, it looks yummy!" Hillary says carefully putting the bottle in Hope's mouth and Hope begins to suck on it.
"Good girl. I know you worked hard to learn that skill in the NICU." Hillary says as she smiles at Hope and then at Bill.
"I forgot how gross formula smelled. But, she's gotta eat and neither one of us has milk." Bill says playfully rubbing his chest, causing Hillary to laugh.
"Don't make me laugh too hard, Bill!" Hillary says and Bill chuckles.
"Oh that's right, I'm sorry! I don't want you to hurt yourself." Bill says to Hillary.
"Hope is probably gonna think we're weird."Hillary says laughing.
"Tell me something I don't know." Bill says back as they see Hope roll her eyes.
"Wow, she rolling her eyes already at almost two weeks old. I wonder where she got that from?" Hillary asks playfully.
"From Mommy." Bill says with a grin.
"Touché." Hillary says as she puts the bottle down and burps Hope midway through her bottle.
Hope burps loudly, causing Hillary and Bill to laugh.
"I heard that one!" Bill says as Hillary begins to feed Hope again.
Bill grabs a fork and cuts some food up for Hillary to feed to her.
"But, honey. I'm not a little kid!" Hillary groans playfully
"Oh, come on. You just came back from Japan and had our beautiful surprise daughter before that. Let me spoil you." Bill insists
"Oh, fine. You win." Hillary says, surrendering to Bill's suggestion
"That's my girl." Bill says, blowing his wife a kiss.
Bill feeds Hillary a few bites of food while Hillary continues to feed Hope her bottle.
"What outfit should we put her in? We only have a few to choose from but you know the kids bought her a ton of outfits." Bill says as he feeds Hillary another bite.
"Her Daddy's Little Princess outfit! She hasn't worn it yet and I know she'll look precious in it. And after all, she is Daddy's Little Princess." Hillary says to Bill with a big smile.
"I second that!" Bill says while raising his hand.
-
After finishing breakfast and getting the kitchen back in order, Bill, Hillary, and Hope headed upstairs to get dressed for the day.
Some time passes and it's now 10:45 am. Bill hears his iPhone go off. Sure enough, it's a text message from birthday buddy: Tipper Gore
Tipper: "Al and I are almost there. Another 20 minutes to go. Hope is mine the minute I walk in!"
Bill: "Great! Can't wait to see the two of you. Well, three."
Tipper: 😂💙
Bill then bursts out into laughter seeing the emojis.
"What are you laughing about?" Hillary asks as she holds Hope in her arms.
"The emojis she sends always make me laugh for some reason!" Bill says, showing Hillary his and Tipper's fun text message exchange.
"Oh my gosh! That woman drives me crazy, but I love her!" Hillary says as she giggles while bouncing Hope in her arms.
"This outfit looks so cute on her! Are you a cutie pie, Hopey?" Bill says as Hillary hands Hope to Bill.
*Hope's outfit*
Hillary, Hope, Bill, Tally and Maisie all walk downstairs and Bill sits on the couch while Hillary gets some coffee.
Bill holds Hope close and Hope yawns, before rubbing her eyes.
"Sleepy girl. Do you wanna stay in Daddy's arms or your swing?" Bill says as Hope curls in a ball.
"I think you already know the answer, Daddy." Hillary says with a smirk and Bill smirks back.
"You look very sexy today, Mommy." Bill puckers his lips wanting a kiss.
"Oh shush." Hillary says as she sips on her coffee.
"But you do. Love you!" Bill says as he blows her a kiss.
"And I love both of you. Especially our princess." Hillary says back, giving Bill a quick kiss.
Pretty soon, they hear someone knocking at the door.
Knock, knock, knock.
"Oooo! Someone's at the door, Hope. Let's go see who it is!" Bill says as he gets up off the couch with Hope in his arms to answer the door
"Who is it?" Bill asks playfully to whoever is on the other side of the front door.
"Your running mate, Al Gore and the beautiful former Second Lady, Tipper Gore!" Al says with a chuckle.
Bill opens the door and smiles at Tipper and Al.
"Hey! Come on in!" Bill says as he hugs Al before hugging and kissing Tipper's cheek.
"Congrats man!" Al says with a big smile at Bill.
"Thank you! You're next, buddy!" Bill says with a proud smile and chuckle.
"There's the girl of the hour! Are you Miss Hope? Beautiful just like your Mommy, yes you are! Come to Auntie Tip!" Tipper says on a babyfied voice and Bill hands Hope to her.
Tipper holds Hope close to her and gives her lots of kisses.
"She's awake and alert!" Al says as he smiles at baby Hope.
"She loves to look around. I know she can't see much yet but she loves to be awake. She's a good sleeper though!" Bill says proudly.
Just then, Maisie and Tally run over, barking happily at Al and Tipper.
"Did Mommy take you two out? Mommy being stubborn huh?" Bill says to the dogs as he pets them both.
"I heard that!" Hillary says, slowing walking over to Bill, Hope, Al and Tipper.
"I knew you were around here someplace. How are you feeling, mama?" Tipper asks as she walks over with Hope in her arms
"Feeling pretty good. My body clock is still adjusting to not being in a country thirteen hours ahead anymore. I was just going to ask you the same thing." Hillary answers back as the two ladies hug.
"I feel great! I feel energized at this point of my pregnancy! I've been nesting like crazy, ask Al! Also, the doctors are having me do non stress tests every two weeks to make sure Jack is doing well. Jack decided to not cooperate and kick the monitor the whole time, but he finally passed." Tipper says as she and Hillary giggle.
"I see you have Hope in your arms already." Hillary says as she giggles.
"Yes, I do! Bill knew better! Such a sweet baby girl! She is so little and she looks just like you!" Tipper says as she kisses Hope's cheek.
"I won't be able to hold her today!" Al says playfully.
"Yes, you will! She is just enjoying Auntie right now." Tipper says as she smiles down at Hope.
"Let's all sit and hang out!" Bill says as everyone walks to the living room and sits down.
"So how was the flight?" Bill asks both Al and Tipper.
"Wonderful. It was mostly empty, so everyone on board got upgraded to first class for free. That was good news because my wife got a more comfortable seat!" Al says as he kisses his wife on the cheek.
"We've also been enjoying the sights of New York City for the past 2 days. Especially Times Square. We saw you on the big screens leaving the hospital with Hope yesterday and it was a sight to behold. We flew in on Thursday night instead of Friday since the Friday flight got cancelled." Tipper says as she rubs Hope's back.
"I know! We didn't even know there would be a big crowd of supporters outside. There wasn't anyone outside the main entrance when we first went in. But of course, Henry was the one who got the word out that Hope was coming home. He posted something on Instagram about her coming home and the media went nuts." Hillary says while thinking about her son.
"That was after I called him. People were clapping, holding up signs, and just showering us with love. Just like they did with Chelsea and Marc when they walked out of the hospital with their three kids." Bill says while thinking of those memories.
"Speaking of memories, did you two remember to vote?" Hillary asks Al and Tipper.
"Yes! I voted early in Tennessee likely for the last time and Tipper voted early in Virginia. We know how important voting is. That freaking 2000 presidential election." Al says as he mutters the last part under his breath.
"Al, I know. But at least we conceded our races with dignity and poise unlike a certain someone who really hates losing and still is!" Hillary says as everyone laughs, knows exactly who she's talking about.
"Oh, man! We broke out the champagne on November 7, 2020 when Joe and Kamala won. The celebrations across the country were what we needed in a year where there was very little to cheer about." Bill says with a smile.
Hope decides to interrupt the conversation by burping somewhat loud, causing the four to giggle at the baby girl.
"Well excuse you, little one! You don't have a bow on? Al, there's a pink one in one of the gift bags. Get it for her." Tipper says as she rubs Hope's head.
"There you go, princess. Now you look even more cute!" Al says as he puts the pink bow headband on Hope's head that they got for her.
"Y'all didn't have to get all this for her! You two are so kind." Hillary says with a smile.
"But you know we had to. She's our little niece. To think that in a couple months, this'll be us." Al says as he holds his wife's hand and the look lovingly at each other.
Hillary takes a picture of the three for memories.
"Tip? Why don't you put Hope on your belly? It'll be good for her." Bill suggests and she proceeds to lay her head on Al's lap and Bill puts Hope on her belly.
"You feel that, Hope? That's your playmate in there. His name will be Jack William Gore. Named after your Daddy and mine." Tipper says softly as Hope yawns.
"I think it's sweet that his middle name is my name." Bill says with a grin.
Right on cue, Jack kicks his mama and unintentionally kicks Hope, causing her to cry and the four adults to frown.
"Awwww, Hope. Don't cry baby. That's just Jack telling you that he loves you. Shhhhh...." Al says softly as he puts his finger next to her hand and she grabs it, calming her down.
"Look at you two, being pro parents." Hillary says with a smile and Bill smiles.
"I don't feel like a pro! I forgot how babies act!" Bill says playfully causing everyone to laugh.
"It's been twenty seven years! We are rusty! Being a grandparents is way different than a parent." Al says as Tipper hands Hope to him since he calmed her down.
"Oh for sure! That's something Bill and I have to adjust to as well. We can't return Hope." Hillary says with a belly laugh.
"No returns and no exchanges! And it'll soon be the same for us. Sorry, you two." Tipper says with a smile.
"It's okay. I'm just glad we were able to use the name Hope. It was the name we had for baby #2 had we had a girl instead of a boy in 1993." Bill says while winking at his wife.
"Al, Hope is looking at you. She loves you!" Hillary says happily.
"And I love her too. I think our bond is gonna be special just like it was when Henry was a baby." Al answers back.
"Yeah, when you weren't jealous of baby Henry constantly stealing away your wife's attention." Bill playfully says to him.
Hillary and Tipper both laugh and Al's cheeks blush.
"Y'all won't let that down, huh?" Al says as he smiles at Hope who is now fast asleep.
"Of course not! It's funny!" Tipper says as she smiles at Al and rubs her baby bump.
"Let me get everyone some drinks." Hillary says as she tries to get up but Bill stops her.
"No, sit. I'll get everyone a drink, darling." Bill says as Hillary smiles at Bill before rolling her eyes when he walks away to the kitchen.
"He thinks I can't do anything. I'm getting frustrated." Hillary whispers to Tipper and Al.
"I know you are. We both know how independent you are. But you just had a huge surgery. An abdominal surgery at that! He just wants you to rest and heal well. I'm probably going to be the same way when Jack is born, he's going to be born via c-section." Tipper says to Hillary.
"Are you sure, Tip?" Hillary asks Tipper,
"Yes! It'll be safer for Jack and I, but who knows if he'll cooperate. Yes, I'm talking about you buddy." Tipper says as she feels her son kick her again.
"But....." Hillary says but Al quickly intervenes.
"No buts, Hill. You don't want to be in pain at your birthday party Tuesday night, right?" Al asks her.
"No. I guess you're right. Plus, I do love being spoiled by my husband." Hillary says
"Exactly. So just rest up. We don't want the birthday girl to miss out on her own party because she was being stubborn." Al playfully says to Hillary
"And of course you do. Al loves to spoil me too. Especially after I had our other five children. All of them are so excited that they'll soon have a baby brother to love. Little Al especially, since he won't be the only son anymore after 40 years. I still can't believe my little boy made it to 40 years old after everything he's gone through." Tipper says while tearing up a little.
"Now look at him! A proud dad to Albie and Johnny. He and Brittany are so happy to finally be parents. Tipper and I had a great week spending time with all of them." Al says as he looks down at Hope to make sure she is still asleep.
"Aww, they are so precious! Also, two sets of twins in the family! How fun!" Hillary says as Tally and Maisie walk over wanting to be pet.
"Oh, it is! I'm so excited to be a grandma again! Now we have eight grandchildren. Wyatt, Anna, Oscar, Aria, Harper, Kinsley, Albert and John." Tipper says proudly.
"Well, Bill and I might catch up! Chelsea is having baby number four and Henry is expecting baby number one. Plus we count Huma's son as a grandchild." Hillary says with a grin.
"And aren't they are due close together? Did they plan this?" Tipper asks playfully causing herself and Hillary to laugh.
"They didn't! Chelsea and Marc were done after three children but were extremely surprised to find out they were expecting again! And I think Henry and Mia were planning on having a baby soon but not this soon. Either way, everyone is very happy." Hillary says as Bill walks back into the living with a tray of drinks and a snack for everyone.
"Oh my gosh! Are those Soft Pretzels?" Al asks with glee.
"Yup! Fresh out of the oven too! And some iced tea!" Bill answers with a smile.
"I'd like to propose a toast. To the experience, to the journeys, and to what is to come. Cheers!" Hillary says as she holds up her glass.
"Cheers!" Bill, Al, and Tipper say in unison and the four clink glasses.
The four friends and Baby Hope enjoy each other's company for the next couple hours. Before the rest of the Clinton family comes.
All four of them are happy for all good things that have already and are coming their way. :)
