Chapter 37 - Parents [Frey Sanders]

Saturday, midday

Even after sleeping for over 12 hours, Frey still felt like a bit of a zombie. But everything felt a lot better as he woke up with Daniel's arms around him. He hadn't ever been in love with anyone, and he had never felt as good as he did now. Just the simplest of gestures were enough to send him straight to heaven.

Like Daniel kissing him on the lips, greeting him with a mumbled 'morning', or Daniel not letting him go when he wanted to get out of bed.

He was pulled back by the other boy, who cuddled closer to him, causing Frey to smirk.

"I really need to go to the bathroom, Danny."

"Are you coming back to bed right after?" Daniel sleepily asked, letting him go while yawning.

"We can't stay in bed all day."

"I was enjoying this. I want to enjoy it a little longer."

"Danny? I believe I told you I fell in love with you. So, I think it's safe to say we'll be able to do this a lot more."

"True." Daniel smirked, opening one eye to look at him while he got up from the bed. "I'm just really tired after this week."

"I'll be right back, okay?" Frey smiled, and watched Daniel curl up under the covers with his eyes closed again.

Frey hadn't realised his feelings for Daniel a long time ago, but it did feel absolutely right to be with him like this.

Whatever there was between them.

He bumped into his father when he wanted to walk into the bathroom, surprised that he was home.

Then again, he had no idea what time it was exactly.

"Morning, son." His father was smiling, and the smile was... different. As if he knew something that Frey didn't know himself yet.

"Morning, why're you so happy this morning? Afternoon? What time is it anyway."

"Little past twelve in the afternoon." His father stepped aside to let Frey into the bathroom. "And I guess I'll be making a brunch for three?"

Frey came to a halt as soon as his father had mentioned three. But than again, Frey shouldn't be surprised his dad knew Daniel had stayed over for the night; he had probably given him the key to enter the apartment after his shift.

"Did you send him over?"

"No, he suggested to check in on you himself. Did you tell him yet?"

"Dad..." Frey didn't really want to discuss the matter with his father. He had a feeling his dad might give him the sex-talk that he never got because he had always ran away whenever either of his parents had tried to tell him.

It was just awkward, especially when his mother had tried again while Frey wasn't a virgin any longer.

If she only knew how experienced he was. Frey thought she could be starting world war 3 right then and there if she would ever find out.

His father, on the other had, probably knew a lot more about Frey than he had told his father himself.

"Hey, I'm just showing interest." His father shrugged, winked, and walked off; leaving Frey behind a bit embarrassed.

Did his father think they had done anything? That would be even more embarrassing

Frey went to the bathroom, and then went after his father into the kitchen. "You do know I was in sort of a coma ever since nine last night, right?"

"Yeah, why?"

"No reason." Frey shrugged, watching how his father grabbed eggs, bacon, the toaster and a frying pan. "You're actually going to make breakfast?"

"Yeah, why wouldn't I?"

"Because you never do."

"We have a guest over. One that deserves a decent breakfast for a change."

"Right..." Frey frowned while he watched his father preparing their breakfast. "I guess I'll wake up Daniel."

"You do that. And get dressed. With a guest over, I don't want you to sit at the table in that outfit."

"What's wrong..." Frey looked down, remembering he was only wearing boxer shorts. "Right, we'll be out in ten or so."

"Take your time." His dad shortly turned to smile, and it was a proud smile. One his mother never sent him, and never would in all eternity.

It made Frey feel good, better than he had ever felt while he was still living with his condescending and controlling mom.

But on the other hand, she was still his mother, and comparing his father's behaviour towards himself to his mother's, caused him to think about her, and he missed her.

Well, in some ways.

He would never go back to silently accepting her schedules and rules.

Frey nodded as a reply to his father and headed back to the bedroom to wake up Daniel, who had fallen asleep again.

He tried to push back the thoughts about his mother, but as soon as he looked down at a sleeping Daniel, knowing his mother was fighting cancer and he could lose her for good, he knew he had to make amends with his own mother.

What if something happened to her and they had separated with a fight, feeling angry at each other?

No, he had to try and get back on talking terms. But not that day. That day, he wanted to spend with Daniel, the boy he fell in love with.

The one that made him feel good, despite everything that was going on in his life.

Frey waited patiently until his father left the apartment to spend the day with Victor and Rudy, before he pulled Daniel in his arms and kissed him. He had been wanting to do it all morning, but he felt a bit awkward doing it in front of his father.

"Hmm." Daniel hummed in appreciation, sliding his hands arounds Frey's waist.

"Sorry, I wanted to do that all morning." Frey chuckled, while they stood in an embrace in the middle of the kitchen, after being done filling up the dishwasher.

"Oh, me too." Daniel grinned sheepishly. "I like this side of you."

"What side? Wait, is there a side to me you don't like?"

"The side that doesn't give a flying fuck about anything or anyone." Daniel leaned his forehead against Frey's, closing his eyes while a smile crept onto his face.

"Hmm, I'm not sure that side is gone forever."

"Is it because you're bipolar?"

"Yeah." Frey shrugged. "Can we not talk about it? Not because I don't want to, but because I simply don't know what to think about it yet?"

"Sure. Just promise me you'll tell me when something is bothering you."

"Promised. And you have to do the same. And promise me you'll ask me anything whenever you need it."

"The former is a deal, but the latter will be hard to suddenly start doing. But I'll try, okay?"

"Deal." Frey chuckled shortly, pecking a kiss on Daniel's lips right afterwards. "Now, what do you want to do today?"

"Can we just chill and watch some TV? Be lazy for the rest of the day?"

"Sounds good to me."

They went to the living room, where Frey started a movie which they picked out together, while Daniel settled on the couch.

They cuddled up together, Daniel's arms around Frey, watching the movie in silence for the most part.

Daniel because he was actually watching, Frey because he fell asleep halfway through the movie.

It was simply too much to stay awake, and he hoped his medication would stop affecting him that much any time soon.

Daniel had let him sleep until the movie had ended, waking him up with a kiss.

He felt like he was the sleeping—male—beauty and Daniel his prince that came for his rescue; it was too cheesy, but he couldn't help it.

"Can I ask you something?" Daniel asked him when Frey had opened his eyes and was able to keep them open more than a second.

"What do you want to know?"

"Do you, perhaps, know anyone that had any legal knowledge about inheritance?"

"Eeh, no?" Frey frowned, surprised by the question and unsure why Daniel would ask... unless. "Wait, don't tell me your mother..."

"What...?" Daniel mimicked his expression; now frowning too.

"..."

"Oh, no!" Daniel suddenly called out in shock. "No, no! My mom's fine."

"Then why'd you ask?"

"Because the one who provided the other half of me is apparently dead and Hannah and I are his only heirs."

"I thought he was a low-life piece of shit that spent his money on sex, drugs and rock & roll?"

"Yeah. We inherited a shitload of debts..." Daniel sighed, and Frey felt his muscles tense at the mere thought of his father. "I don't know what to do with it and obviously there's no money to hire someone to look into it..."

"I'm pretty sure, as a minor, you're not obligated to accept the inheritance." Frey shrugged for a bit. "At least, that's what I've read. I could ask dad if you want. Maybe he knows somebody. He has a guy taking care of his finance."

"I can't pay for it, Frey."

"I'm even more than pretty sure dad thinks we're together. I'm sure he won't let them charge you for it."

"Well... It would be helpful to know what to do with it. I don't want to bother mom right now, or ever. She has enough to worry about."

"Danny, you're her son. She will always worry about you too. That's what mother's are for."

"Says the one who hasn't talked to his mother in ages."

"Yeah, about that. I guess I want to get back on good terms with her. But I'm dragging your ass with me when I go over to wave a white flag and surrender to her wrath."

"Sounds lovely." Daniel let out a laugh, and Frey soon joined—unable to ignore his contagious laughter.

When they were done laughing, Frey rolled onto his back, and Daniel—as if it was an automatic response—rolled over, hoovering over Frey with a goofy smile on his face.

"So, Mr. Sanders, when will I meet your mother?"

"We just started dating, and you already want to meet the folks..." Frey joked, teasing Daniel a bit.

"What? You think I'm an idiot? I want your mother on my side. Just in case you ever decide to go back to your old ways and cheat on me. I could tell her and let her take revenge for me."

"You're a lazy revenge-taker. And just for your information, I'm not a cheater."

"Right, you're a player."

"I'm not a player either. Well, not anymore."

"Good." Daniel sighed, and it felt to Frey as if it was a sigh in relief. And just because he could, he leaned up to kiss Daniel shortly—as if he was trying to prove to Daniel that he was the only one Frey wanted.

"Pfft, I can't believe I managed to let the Frey Sanders to fall in love with me."

"I can't believe a boy managed to make me fall in love."

"Yet, here we are..." Daniel whispered, and then leaned in to take Frey's breath away with a very passionate kiss.
