Chapter 35 - Admit [Frey Sanders]
Friday, late evening
After abruptly being sent home by Jenna yesterday, Frey didn't know how to deal with her. She was being two different people in the same time.
After she had shouted for him to leave her alone, he had gone home and while riding his bike, made peace with the fact he had indefinitely decided that he was going to focus on Daniel.
He had admitted aloud he was in love with him more than once by now, and never did those words fail to make him feel warm and giddy; it felt right to say he did.
And then Jenna—late in the evening—had started texting him with apologies for her behaviour, and how she was just really upset because she didn't want to lose him.
Frey hadn't felt like replying after her outburst. Not after she claimed he had been playing with her, while in reality he had done more to give her what she wanted, than focusing on the thing he wanted—let alone Daniel.
He had told her she deserved someone who loved her truly, and that he wasn't it. She had no right to be angry at him for not liking her enough.
He couldn't help it; he wanted Daniel.
But even that wasn't his main priority right now; sleeping—however—was.
He had started with his medication, and even though it was only a low dose of medication, he had almost instantly fell asleep after taking one.
Within an hour—a nine o'clock in the evening—he had given up on fighting the sleep and gone to bed.
He eventually had turned his phone off because of the constant stream of texts from Jenna, who now even started calling him every so often to ask if he was going out and if they could talk.
He simply turned around, pulled the cover over his head and continued sleeping.
It wasn't like he felt like he owed her anything after she shouted at him while he was doing the right thing. If he would've continued things, she would probably claim he used her later; when he would tell her how he felt about Daniel.
At least this way she kept her innocence, she wouldn't feel used, and he didn't feel like a jerk. To him, he had done the right thing and he felt proud he had handled things the way he did.
And at least she wasn't angry any longer. Upset? Yes. Jealous? Possibly. But it wasn't his problem, and he wasn't responsible for her happiness either.
He just wished he wouldn't keep dreaming about a crying Jenna, begging him not to leave her alone, and Robby pulling her away from him while he stoically watched him do so.
He kept waking up with a raised heartbeat, all sweaty, and even a bit nauseous. He needed to go to the bathroom badly. But when he got out of bed to head to the bathroom, his legs were jelly, his head was fuzzy, and he simply crashed to the ground due to a lack of coordination and stability.
"God damn it." He muttered, rolling over until he was on his back, waiting for the light fuzzy feeling in his head to disappear.
His eyes stung; he was that sleepy. He could barely keep them open and he had to keep himself from giving into the need to just close them and fall asleep.
After all, he was still on the floor instead of in bed.
Frey fell asleep anyway, on the floor instead of in bed, without going to the bathroom while that had been the plan in the first place.
When Frey woke up again, he was back in his bed, it was still dark outside by the looks of it, and he felt a presence close to him.
He jerked his head up, not fully aware of his surroundings, still remembering he had been running from someone in his dreams.
He was met with Daniel's eyes, staring down amused.
Daniel was seated on the bed, his back leaning against the wall, his legs casually over Frey's. He was holding a book but discarded it now that Frey woke up.
"Morning, sleepy-head."
"Morning?" Frey muttered, not moving because he was afraid Daniel would pull away his legs and he actually sort of liked the casualness of their physical contact.
"Very early morning, yes." Daniel chuckled and looked on his phone. "It's four in the morning."
"Oh. Than why are you here, and why are you awake?" Frey struggled to pronounce his words the right way, his tongue heavy with sleep.
"Arun said you were home alone and taking medication." Daniel simply told him, shrugging a shoulder. "Normally I would bring you home and make sure you reach your bed without getting injured. So, I figured I might as well check in on you now."
"Well, I'm fine. I'm in bed and besides—" Frey frowned, rolling over to face Daniel. The other boy, much to Frey's delight, did not remove his legs.
"After I carried your ass to bed, yeah—"
"shouldn't you be with Hannah and your mom?" Frey continued, ignoring Daniel's statement on purpose.
Daniel shook his head, staring towards his hands shortly. "Mom's in hospital and Hannah is staying with Annette for the weekend since I have to work a lot."
"Your mom is in hospital?" Frey pushed himself up, because he wanted to sit next to Daniel—be closer to the boy. "What happened?"
"Pneumonia. She's getting better. She'll be fine, she's a fighter."
"Oh, shit." Frey mumbled, still wanting to sit next to him. His arms lacked strength to move closer. "I'm sorry to hear..."
"Don't fuzz about it. I already said, she'll be fine." Daniel smiled, though it seemed a bit forced. "What are you doing? Just lay down before you end on the ground again."
"I want to hug you." Frey muttered with heavy words, yawning right afterwards.
"What kind of meds are you even taking? You look as delirious as my mom does after treatment."
"Antipsychotics..." Frey's closed his eyes, giving up on his attempts to try and get closer to Daniel. He wasn't so much sleepy anymore, but he was still lacking energy or strength to move too much.
"What?" Daniel chuckled, but it was awkward. "Why?"
"I'm bipolar. I've been meaning to tell you. But it's not a great conversation starter and you're busy with Mitchel..."
"I'm not busy with Mitchel. I kicked him out the other day, to be honest. I thought we could be friends, maybe. But yeah, that's not gonna work out." Daniel leaned to his left a bit, to face Frey better. "You're bipolar? What does that mean exactly?"
"That I have this very depressed and sad side to me, and another hyperactive and cheerful side. And they're apparently switching at least four times a year and it's exhausting."
"I can imagine." Daniel mumbled while he was now leaning on his elbow. "Can I hug you? You said you wanted to hug me..."
"Why are you even asking?" Frey laughed out a little, even still when Daniel lay down beside him and pulled Frey in his arms.
He nuzzled his face against Daniel's chest, answering Daniel's hug with one of his own.
"Danny?"
"Yes, Frey?"
Frey felt the vibrations from his words in his chest, while he took in a deep breath, loving Daniel's scent so close to him. "I ended things with Jenna." He admitted, whispering because he didn't want to break the bubble of comfort they were currently in.
"You did? Why?"
Frey took a deep breath, deciding on taking a leap into the unknown. "Because I'm in love with you."
Daniel remained silent, and suddenly the silence weighed heavily upon Frey. He was scared Daniel was going to turn him down. That he had meant he couldn't be friends with Mitchel because he wanted to be in a relationship with him instead of dating Frey.
"Are you going to reply?"
"I—I don't know how." Daniel whispered. His voice sounded thick with emotions that Frey couldn't exactly explain.
"By telling me if I stand a chance." Frey mumbled, pulling out of Daniel's hold just enough to face him.
Daniel didn't tell him, he showed him; by surprising him with a kiss. A kiss that sent shivers down Frey's spine. One that made him forget about everything else. It was just Daniel and him, and nothing else mattered in that moment.
When Daniel broke the kiss, he smiled shyly, and Frey returned a similar smile.
"Does that mean I stand a chance?"
"It means I'm in love with you too, and damn yes. You stand a chance."
"Good." Frey hummed, closing his eyes again. He felt drowsy, even though he didn't want to go back to sleep. He didn't want to wake up not having Daniel with him. "Now what? I've never done this before."
"Now we date." Daniel laughed out a little. "You know, do fun stuff together."
"That's it?" Frey laughed out and rolled onto his back. Daniel rolled with him, putting his head on Frey's chest.
"And we make out, and we don't see other people because I think we both agree that was a really shitty situation."
"It really was, yes." Frey admitted with a nod, turning his head just enough to peck a kiss onto Daniel's head. "So, are we... boyfriends now?"
"Do you want to be?"
"Wouldn't that be a bit fast?" Frey wondered aloud, frowning while he stared to the ceiling. "I don't know what an appropriate time is. I never bothered to invest in anything like that."
"I know." Daniel pushed himself up to grin down on Frey. "Why don't we agree that we're just dating, and we'll just do whatever feels right. We don't have to name it."
"Agreed." Frey smiled, and leaned up to catch Daniel's lips with his, putting his arms around his neck. Kissing Daniel felt right; and Daniel said they should do whatever felt right.
He was too sleepy to really invest in the kiss, it was lazy, slow, but sweet nonetheless. But it was also evidently clear Frey was still high on medication and he needed to sleep it off.
"Are you staying?" Frey whispered in between their kisses, still holding onto Daniel because he really didn't want him to leave.
"Do you want me to?"
"Yes."
"In that case, I'm staying, yeah." Daniel chuckled. "I have nothing to be at until tomorrow evening." He sat up and pulled his shirt over his head. "But you need to sleep, so you are going to sleep."
"Fine." Frey chucked. "You're strict."
"Get used to it."
"Oh, I will." Frey laughed out louder, while Daniel undressed to get in bed with him. And as soon as he crawled under the cover with Frey, Frey crawled into his arms, closed his eyes and let out a breath of relief.
At least he admitted his feelings, and Daniel hadn't turned him down.
And right in that moment, despite his mental state, he felt as if he was the happiest guy on earth; all thanks to Daniel.
