Chapter 34 - It's okay [Frey Sanders]

Thursday, midday

Ever since Daniel had replied Frey's mood had become better again. It wasn't like he was his cheerful and outgoing self again, but he wasn't in an 'fuck-all-and-everything' mood any longer.

Though the simple fact he indeed wasn't outgoing, energetic and cheerful was something that worried him. He had thought he was getting over his most recent depressed phase. But that day, if you'd ask Frey, he'd say it seemed as if it would never end.

It felt endless, he didn't even exactly know what truly being happy felt like. Sitting at home however, had only made him feel worse. Which was the only reason he went to school, and even agreed to pick Jenna up afterwards to bring her home.

She had asked him to, but in a different way than she had done in the past week or so. She had asked, but also told if he couldn't, or didn't want to, she would ask someone else. She just preferred his company and he understood why; she liked him, and he still liked her too.

Just not as much as he liked Daniel.

Which was another reason for him to agree meeting Jenna that day; he needed to tell her.

She deserved the truth.

He just had to figure out what words he would use to tell her, without hurting her in the process. He would like to stay friends, but he also realised it could be too difficult for her at first.

How did Jenna and Daniel even do that?

Were they going to become best friends again soon and ignore the fact they had a falling out because of him? He had never intended to mess with their friendship, and he still was unsure of what was really behind their fight.

Or more, argument, as they both called it.

Frey also wondered why he suddenly cared so much about not breaking someone's heart. He had never cared about it before, so why now?

Frey shook his head and forced the confusing thoughts to the back of his mind. He was waiting for Jenna's class to be over, sitting on his bike, balancing with one foot on a low brick wall and the other on its pedal.

While he took a look around to observe the people already leaving school around him, he noticed a familiar brown-haired guy, wearing his hair in a bun; Robby.

He was walking past the school and Frey didn't get the impression he was waiting for Jenna, or even paying attention to the people around him. He was just walking by.

But he was still there, and Frey wondered if he had been lurking around for a while until he spotted Frey—probably knowing he was waiting for Jenna.

It didn't matter much in that moment, as Robby disappeared around a corner, walking further away from the school, when Jenna jumped up in front of him with a smile on her face.

"Hi!" She cheerfully exclaimed, and Frey invited her in for a quick hug by spreading his arms. She hugged him, placed a kiss on his cheek and gestured towards her bike. "I'm good to go."

Frey smiled and nodded, trying not to give away any hints that he just saw Robby. "Let's go then."

He waited for her to get on her bike. They took of in silence, but soon enough Jenna was telling him about some school project she was very excited about. He listened to her telling him what it was about, but he wasn't really paying attention, constantly scanning their surroundings, wondering when Robby would reappear to bother them.

She didn't notice the fact he was absentmindedly nodding and humming every so often. Not until they got to her home and he almost rode past it.

"What's going on?" Jenna asked with her head slightly tipped to the side.

"I... nothing." He forced a smile on his face.

"Aren't you going to come in?" Jenna chuckled. "Or do you have plans?"

"No plans... I guess I could stay for a while." Frey stepped of his bike and followed her into the house after locking his bike. "I wanted to talk with you anyway."

"You do?" Jenna shortly looked around while she walked to the kitchen, grabbed drinks and a bag of chips, and lead him up to her bedroom.

It seemed as if Samuel wasn't home yet; and neither were her parents.

Frey felt himself relax a bit, since he still felt awkward around her parents, and he still was getting used to the idea of Samuel being her twin brother.

"Well, yeah." Frey replied, closing the bedroom door behind him.

"Can we watch a movie first? I've been listening to teachers the whole day and my brain is dead right now."

"Eh, sure. Let me text my dad so he knows I'm here."

"Cool, I'll pick a movie." Jenna dropped the bag of chips on her bed, placed the bottle of coke and the glasses on her bedside table, grabbing her laptop out of her bag.

Frey texted his father, before he sat down and waited for her to start the movie she picked—whichever it was. She knew what he liked, and what he hated when it came to movies, so she knew what not to pick.

If hanging out with Jenna always was this relaxing and comfortable, Frey wouldn't mind hanging out with her every day.

And as long as she wasn't acting clingy, she was a very cool girl.

Since she wasn't clingy, Frey was reminded of why he liked her in the first place. It just wasn't the same as with Daniel.

Slowly, during the movie, Jenna had crawled closer and closer, up until a point where they were cuddled up on the bed, and Frey was at a loss of what to do. It felt good to be with Jenna like this. He didn't want to let her go, but then again he knew he had been adamant about wanting to focus on Daniel instead of her.

But with her in his arms he felt good too.

He just couldn't pinpoint what exactly was missing, despite the fact he felt good.

"Frey?" Jenna whispered when the two main characters in the movie shared a kiss. She looked up to face him.

"Yeah?" He turned to face her when she didn't speak up again, a bit surprised when she leaned in to kiss him on the lips.

It was an automatic movie to kiss her back, and it was even more a habit to pull her closer—impossibly closer.

He didn't expect anything, not even the kiss. Which was why he didn't really know what to do when she rolled them over and crawled on top of him.

She pulled back to look down on him, while he stared up to her.

His heart was racing, and he was having trouble not to attack her since she straddled him and he felt at least a little turned on for her sudden behaviour.

She looked hot, sexy.

"What are we doing?" He wondered aloud, since neither was moving in that moment.

"Fooling around." She muttered, still staring towards his lips instead of his eyes.

He swallowed, she mimicked the movement, and then dipped in to kiss him again.

Frey—since he hadn't slept with a girl in a while—had trouble not to rip the clothes off her; especially when she moved her hips, and they both moaned.

"Jen... stop..." Frey whimpered, his hands holding her hips to try and stop her movements.

"Why?" Jenna asked in a whisper. "Don't you want... this?"

"I..." Did he? Didn't he want Daniel? Then why did he want her to continue that badly? Why did he feel like flying whenever she kissed him that passionate?

"What?"

"I don't know... I thought I liked... Daniel more..."

"You do?" Jenna stopped her movements suddenly, pulling back to look at him with wide eyes.

"I did. I don't know..."

"Is it because you had sex with him? Ever since that happened, you're acting different around me."

Frey swallowed, but he didn't really have an answer. He didn't know if the moment he slept with Daniel, he fell harder for the boy, or that he was already in love with him before they did anything.

"If so, wouldn't it be fair for us to do the same?" She whispered, leaning closer again. "Wouldn't that be fair to me?"

Frey swallowed again, and whimpered when she moved her hips again. "Jen... You don't have to do this..."

"If it means I can win over the boy I'm in love with..." Jenna didn't finish her sentence. Instead, she kissed him again, while her hands fiddled with his belt, and then his zipper.

Frey grabbed her wrists to stop her, causing her to end the kiss and look at him again. "Jenna, stop."

"It's okay..."

"No, we're not going to do this."

"Why not? You obviously want to." She moved her hips again, telling him he was turned on more than enough.

Frey slowly shook his head, staring at Jenna nervously. "I... I'm... in love with Daniel." He admitted in a whisper. "I think we should just be friends."

"What?" Jenna whispered in shock. "Don't you... like me?"

"I do, but I like Daniel more. I mean, I don't like Daniel, I'm in love with him..."

"How do you know? You hardly talk to him."

"Because I just know." Frey pushed her off his lap, sitting up, still holding her wrists.

"Bu... but..." Jenna shook her head too, staring down. Her shoulders slumping down, her lips turned into a sad frown. "He's with Mitchel... why would you even try..."

"I don't think they're actually together, Jen." Frey grumbled, annoyed because she mentioned Mitchel. "Besides, that doesn't change the way I feel about him, or you for a fact." Frey took in a deep breath. "Even if he decides he doesn't like me the same way I like him, I can't lie to myself, you, or anyone. I'm not going to pretend to like you and date you, while I'm in love with someone else."

Jenna opened her mouth to reply, but no words left her mouth. She was still staring towards their hands—his holding her wrists still.

"It's not fair, and you shouldn't be wanting that. You deserve a guy that loves you more than anyone."

"I don't care if you like Daniel too. I just... I'm in love with you and I want to be your girlfriend. And since when do you care about doing the courtly thing? About being a nice guy? You always did whatever the hell you wanted."

"Yeah... I'm not all but a bad guy." Frey rolled his eyes. "I just never found someone who was important enough to change for. And now I did."

"But it's not me..." She sighed.

"It's Daniel."

They remained silent for a short while, but than Jenna pulled her wrists from his hold, and snapped her head up to face him. "Fuck you, Frey." She hissed in anger. "I'm a fucking great catch and I deserve the best—"

"That's what I said—"

"Get the hell away from me. Get out of my house. Now." She pointed towards the door, an angry scowl on her face. "I won't allow you to play with me any longer."

"I'm not... I—I never..." Frey stuttered, surprised by her sudden anger. "I've always been honest—"

"Get out!"

"The fuck are you suddenly PMSing about?" Frey grumbled, snatching his backpack from the ground. "I've always told you the truth. I just realised my feelings for Daniel are bigger than anything—"

"GET OUT!" She shouted, pushing him out of her room. "I don't ever want to see you again."

"Whatever." Frey rolled his eyes, now most certain he did the right thing by turning her down. At least he hadn't used her for sex like he used to. At least he remained loyal to Daniel—even though they weren't a couple, or even went on a real date. At least he'd be able to look at himself in the mirror and be proud of the decision he made today.

Maybe he was really changing for the better, and he hoped it would be enough for Daniel to like him back.
