Chapter 30 - History [Jenna Lark]

Saturday, midday

After having a conversation with Frey, Jenna didn't feel calm at all. Yes, he had danced with her most of the night, and they had shared kisses throughout the night. But they weren't the same kind of kiss Frey and Daniel had shared.

They were just simple, sweet kisses.

Jenna had begun to wonder if Frey liked Daniel more, mostly because he wasn't saying anything about the fact they slept together. Frey just ignored her when she brought it up.

He still didn't want to meet up this weekend. Not that Jenna had nothing to do, but she wouldn't mind cancelling her regular plans to hang out with Frey. But since he was busy with whatever, she went over to Lacy's place to hang out. Michelle had told Jenna and Lacy she wouldn't be there, even though she wouldn't tell why she was cancelling on them while they always hung out on Saturday. Daniel had cancelled too, since he was busy taking care of his mother and they were used to the fact he every so often simply had no time to hang out and do nothing.

Lacy was in a similar situation—even though money wasn't as tight—as Daniel. Which was why they had agreed to meet at her place instead of Jenna's.

"Jenna, stop brooding, please. It's boring." Lacy complained. She was on her bed, her feet in the air, resting against the wall. As always when Lacy wasn't planning on leaving the house, she was wearing sweatpants that belonged to her boyfriend Tobias, and a hoodie that was a little oversized.

Tobias, the perfect boyfriend that Lacy had been dating for nearly two years already. Jenna remembered all too well how Lacy had kept it hidden from her because Jenna had just gotten out of a relationship with Robby.

Jenna wished she would've been more supportive to Lacy back then, but she had been a bit of a mess.

She was still unsure on how to act or behave after Robby was suddenly removed from her life by Samuel and her father. She had been used to listen to Robby, do whatever he told her to do.

She still shivered when she thought about the consequences that came with not listening to Robby. The many times he had hurt her physically because she didn't want to do something.

The only thing he never actually forced her to, was sex; even though he had tried several times.

He wasn't a rapist, but that was pretty much the only good thing she could say about Robby.

And now she was using her past with him, the fact he stalked her for months after Samuel and her father broke off their relationship, to get Frey's attention. She felt shitty for it, but she couldn't help herself.

She felt save whenever she was with Frey, even though she knew Robby could easily beat him up.

"Jenna, please. I will hit you if you won't stop biting your lip and silently worry over something. What's going on in that head of yours?" Lacy actually grabbed hold of her shoulders, and that's when Jenna noticed she had been staring at a wall and Lacy actually moved and got off the bed.

She shrugged, causing Lacy to sigh.

"Tell me, babe. You always used to share everything with me, but..." Lacy groaned. "Ever since Frey stole your heart, you stopped talking."

"I didn't stop talking. I told you plenty in the mean time."

"Still, something is upsetting you. What is it?"

"The whole thing with Frey..." Jenna mumbled while she walked to the bed, only to bury her face in the pile of pillows.

"What about him? I thought he was being a decent guy that actually put in effort to date you. Did he do something? Should I hurt him?"

Jenna smirked after lifting her head to look towards Lacy. "He's being a gentleman, really. But... Danny."

"What about Danny? Haven't you two fixed your friendship yet?"

"No..." Jenna groaned, sitting up, hitting a pillow with her fist. "He hadsex with Frey. He admitted it, which is why I'm angry, Lace." Jenna stared at her with wide eyes. "He knows how touchy of a subject sex is to me, and he still used it to get Frey's attention."

"Yeah, well... I figured that would happen." Lacy shrugged, pretending as if it wasn't a big deal.

"He likes Danny more, doesn't he?"

"He liked the sex more, because that's Frey; a horny fucking bastard that can't keep it in his pants for more than a week."

"Thanks, Lace, that's not helping to cheer me up, at all."

"It's the truth. You knew what you were getting into."

"Doesn't mean it isn't a shitty move on Danny's behalf."

"What, for trying to seduce the first guy he likes enough to forget about Mitchel in the first place?"

Jenna felt her face heat up and thought about the fact Mitchel was currently with Daniel, helping him by watching Hannah so Daniel could focus on their mother. "Do you think Danny is still into Mitch? Do you think, if with some kind of miracle Mitchel decides to be a decent guy, they would get back together?"

"I certainly hope he isn't. Mitchel doesn't deserve a sweet guy like Danny. Danny really has an awful taste in men. But that's something you two have in common."

"Oh, come on. Frey is kind, sweet, romantic even. And he's really smart."

"He's a cunning little shit. But okay, even I have to admit he seems like a great catch lately."

Jenna nodded in agreement, resting her head back on the pillows, again biting her lip. He really seemed like a great catch and ever since she found out he was intelligent, and a bit of a dork too, she fell even harder for him. Which was also why she worried about the developments between Frey and Daniel as much as she did.

"Lace?"

"Yes, babe?" Lacy suddenly fell down on the bed beside her, staring at her with a serious expression. She pushes a stray of hair out of Jenna's face.

"I think I did something really shitty."

"Which is?"

"I think... no, I know... I lied to Frey."

"About?"

"I might have blown up the whole deal with Robby a bit." Jenna admitted with a whisper. She did more shitty things to stand a better chance with Frey, but she wasn't going to tell anyone about that.

"How can you blow that up, Jen?" Lacy rolled her eyes. "It really was as bad as it was. You can't blow that up."

"Well, I can, and I did."

"How?"

"I told Frey Robby is still actively stalking me, while in reality I don't see him more than twice a month, and he usually leaves me alone" Jenna sighed, knowing she repeatedly called Frey to ask him to keep her company outside because she was afraid Robby would show up again.

"Didn't he bother you the other day? Frey knows he's bothering you."

"Yeah, but that was one time. And he kind of warned me for Frey because of his reputation. Besides the fact he kept repeating I belong with him, he was actually just trying to protect me from getting used."

"That's bullshit, Jenna. You know Robby couldn't care less about Frey's reputation. He always pretended to be this careful and kind guy. But he really isn't, Jen."

"I know, I know. But still... I keep pretending he's stalking me so Frey will come over to protect me or something. And now Frey is annoyed because he wants to spend time with Daniel but he feels like I won't let him."

"Well, is he right? Are you keeping them apart? You do tend to show up whenever they're spending time together."

"I'm not doing it on purpose, really. I'm just... every time I see them together, I feel jealous and I want them to stop being all sweet and cute together."

"You agreed to this whole messed up situation. I warned you that it wasn't going to be all fun and games." Lacy told her in a lecturing way. She hated it whenever Lacy would say 'didn't I say so?' whenever she had been right about something.

"I figured, since we had been in the same situation before, Danny and I could handle it."

"But you can't, and now you're constantly jealous and you're worried Frey likes Danny more than he likes you. Not to mention the fact this is messing with your friendship with Danny."

"We'll be fine..." She muttered, wondering if Daniel and she would ever be fine again. She was doing a lot of shitty things to win Frey over, and so far it wasn't helping at all.

On the contrary, even Frey had told her he liked her better when they first started to hang out a little over two weeks ago.

It had only been two weeks.

It felt like they had known each other this well for ages already—she was that comfortable around Frey.

But besides one real date, they had only hung out like friends. They had baked cupcakes, they had baked a cake for Hannah's birthday. They had gone out together, or even just hung out after school.

Yes, last Monday Frey had taken her out for a late lunch together, but Robby had ruined it.

Of all moments he could've picked to show his face again, he just had to pick the moment she was finally spending time alone with Frey again.

She had felt as if everything was fine—despite knowing Frey had slept with Daniel—and as if they were a couple.

Frey had shared with her that he was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and it gave her a feeling she mattered to him more than others. He decided to tell her about it first. Not even Arun, not Daniel. No, he had called her to vent and get it of his chest.

But ever since he told her he had gotten the diagnose, he hadn't shared anything else, and he was rejecting her more and more, in the form of not wanting to hang out.

And now he asked her to give him more time to spend with Daniel. She truly hoped Daniel would simply lose interest, or Frey for that matter, and he would focus on her completely.

Even her own father was starting to like Frey, and that was saying something.

She just had to stop acting clingy or she would scare him away.

She had to relax and be her cheerful and outgoing self.

Frey had told her he liked her better that way, so why not just be herself? Why was she stooping to a low level and lied about things to get his attention, if he would just give her that attention if she was who she really was; who she liked to be.

And while she would focus on that, she should also focus on mending her friendship with Daniel. She needed to apologize to him for acting jealous. He too deserved to be loved.

She just wished it wouldn't be Frey that would give him that love.
