Staying in her quiet apartment alone was what Danielle Jennings was used to.

It had been her, her music, and her big empty apartment for the last 2 years since she moved out to LA to become Gustavo Rocque's assistant and 'co-collaborator,' even though the man wouldn't admit to working on songs with a teenage girl.

She was usually a busy girl, always at Rocque Records working on something new, but with her boss out of town scouting for new talent, she was given the week off.

Today was her last day of freedom before Gustavo's return; she had yet to hear anything, but Dani still had hope.

The girl was curled up on her couch with a cup of hot chocolate and her keyboard sitting beside her, trying to figure out the melody that had been stuck in her head.

"Wait, so you're telling me some kid actually talked Gustavo into bringing him and his friends out to LA to make them a boy band?" Dani asked, raising her eyebrow. "And Gustavo actually agreed?"

"I was desperate!" Gustavo's voice boomed through the phone, causing the girl to quickly pull it away from her ear.

"It's a long story. We're leaving the airport right now, so we should be at the Palm Woods in about 30 minutes," Kelly explained. "Meet me in the lobby then."

"Yeah, see you soon."

The girl let out a groan as the call ended, letting her phone drop on the couch before she fell back onto it.

Dani stared up at the ceiling, enjoying her final moments of freedom before being surrounded by 4 teenage boys.

Of all the acts the producer could have brought back, he went with another boy band.

The thing that confused Dani the most was that Gustavo agreed to bring them out here; he must have been extremely desperate if he let them talk him into it.

She checked the time on her phone to see it was already noon and ultimately decided she would go sit by the pool while she waited for them.

The girl pushed herself up from the couch before grabbing her bag and songbook from the table as she made her way out of her door.

Heading down the hallway straight for the elevators.

Once the Jennings girl reached the lobby, she greeted Buddha Bob and Bitters before stepping out to the pool.

Suddenly a lyric popped into her head, causing her to quickly pull out her songbook to quickly jot it down.

The girl was knocked out of her thoughts when she felt a giant shove in her back, causing her to go flying forward.

Straight into the pool, landing with a giant splash.

Gasps filled the pool area before the blonde's head resurfaced a few seconds later.

Her hair now dripping wet and her eyes burning from the chlorine.

The girl let out a giant gasp, pushing hair from her face that stuck, allowing herself to open her eyes to see four unfamiliar faces standing in front of her.

"We are so sorry about that." The short boy with the brown T-shirt asked; he looked a little nerdier than the rest but in a cute nerdy way.

"Yeah, are you okay?" The other short one was wearing a longer black shirt that was pulled up past his elbows.

"I'm fine." Dani muttered, making her way to the edge of the pool to pull herself up when a hand extended, causing her to glance up to see the tall blonde. "Thanks."

She grabbed the boy's hands, allowing him to help her out of the pool before grabbing the towel from his friend.

"Well, I can't say the same for your bag." The blonde said, crouching down to the edge of the pool before pulling out the dripping wet bag.

"Great." Dani muttered, grabbing it from the boy's hands. "Just what I needed today."

"What's this?" The short brunette questioned, grabbing the book from the ground a few feet away from the pool.

"My book." The girl quickly snatched it from his hands, inspecting it.

"Looks like it's just fine to me." The tall brunette finally spoke, causing the girl to look at him.

"Yeah, thanks." Dani spoke sarcastically. "I'm entirely grateful that you and your friends spared my book from being thrown into the pool."

"Well, since you seem to be okay now. The name's Diamond. James Diamond." The boy pushed past his friends as he sent the girl a flirty smirk. "And I think you and I would make the hottest couple here."

"Why do you always get the girl?"

"Give us a chance!"

"Like she's going to give you a chance after you just pushed her into the pool, Logan." James retorted.

"Hey, it wasn't my fault. Carlos was the one who bumped into me, making me bump into her!" Logan said, pointing at the boy beside him who magically had a helmet on his head.

"Well, Kendall was the one who suggested it!"

"Wait a second, I didn't tell you to go push a girl into the pool!" Kendall quickly defended himself.

The four boys continued arguing, and Dani couldn't take any more of it.

"Um, hello. Girl standing right here!" Dani shouted, causing them to all get quiet as they turned to look at her.

"She's right. Why don't we let her pick who she wants to go out with?" Carlos said, pointing at the blonde girl, causing the boys to nod in agreement.

"Sounds good to me."

That's fair enough."

"Okay."

"Do you really think I would ever go out with any of you after you pushed me into the pool and hit on me as if nothing happened?"  Dani glanced at the four boys as her wet clothes began to feel heavy. "I mean, who even are you?"

Before they even had the chance to respond, Dani turned and stormed up to her apartment to rechange for the day.

After a quick ten-minute shower, Dani was dressed and had to rush to the studio knowing that it was too late to meet Kelly in the lobby.

As Dani made her way down the hallway of Rocque Records, she could see Kelly giving the new band the grand tour of the studio.

"Welcome to Rocque Records, where you are going to sing, dance, and sweat your butts off if you want to end up on these walls."

"Do we want to end up on these walls?" The girl heard one of the boys ask his friends.

"Eh, it depends on who you ask." Dani answered, walking up from behind the group, still not seeing the guys faces as they chuckled at her comment. "Sorry, I'm late; there were these guys where I live and..."

Dani trailed off when she came face to face with the group of four boys.

"Well, hello." James flirted.

"Nice to see you again." Kendall smiled at the girl.

"Please tell me this isn't Gustavo's new band." Dani begged, turning to Kelly.

"I'm afraid it is." Kelly said, causing the girl to squeeze her eyes closed before turning to the boys with a fake smile as her coworker stepped away.

"Hi, it's nice to meet you guys; I'm Dani, Gustavo's P.A." Dani introduced herself. "I guess we're going to be working very closely with each other."

"Kendall."

"Carlos."

"Logan."

"And you already know my name, but you can just call me yours." The brunette winked.

"Never gonna happen." Dani grimaced as his friends pulled him back.

"Guys." Kelly's attention grabbed the teen's attention. "Say hi to Nicole Scherzinger from The Pussycat Dolls." Kelly introduced walking over with Nicole as the guys did a double take and rushed over.

"Hey, guys, what's up?" Nicole greeted with a light chuckle as the guys were starstruck; Dani hit the boy she was closest to, which was Carlos, as she made her way beside Kelly.

"He's going to marry you," Carlos announces as he points to James, who was standing right next to him.

"Where's my ring?" Nicole asked in a serious tone but jokingly.

"I... I... I..." James started but couldn't get it out, so Kendall butted in. "We're recording some demos with Gustavo."

"Gustavo..." Nicole said, dragging it out as Dani let out a little chuckle.

"Yeah. Have you worked with him?" Kendall asked as Nicole looked over at me and Kelly.

"Yes, actually on my first album. Let's just say we had some... creative differences." Nicole answered, looking over at Dani, causing a grin to cover her face.

"Nicole, baby!" Gustavo called as he opened the door to his office but quickly closed it as Nicole threw the telephone that was sitting on the table nearby.

"Good luck, guys," Nicole said as she and her people walked away, still leaving the boys to watch them leave.

"All clear," Kelly called for Gustavo as his office door flew open and he came and stood between Dani and Kelly.

"She still hates you." Dani stated, letting out a chuckle.

"Ok, so you guys ready to be stars?" Gustavo asked, ignoring the girl's comment. "Then prove to me you can be stars. We have three days to prove to this record company there's something... anything here."

"Three days?" Kendall repeated. "What happened to three months?"

"The CEO of all of our butts wants to see you guys on Friday," the producer explained.

"We have to be a band in three days?" Logan asked, very nervous.

"No, you have to be a great band in three days." Gustavo exclaimed as he took a step closer to Kendall. "Unless you don't think that you can do it, Mr. Make us a pop group."

"Oh, we can do it. No problem." Kendall replied, following Gustavo as he stepped closer to the man. "Bring it on."

"Oh, I will bring it. I'll bring everything I got."

"This is a little too close for me," Kendall said, backing up a little bit.

"Yeah, me too," Gustavo said, walking away as the others followed him.

...

"To be a great pop group, you need 4 things..." Gustavo started walking back and forth in front of the four boys. "Great dancing, a great look, a great song, and great singing."

Kelly blew an air horn, summoning the team he needed: a choreographer, stylists, and marketing.

"And by the end of today, me and my team will transform the 4 dogs from Minnesota into Gustavo Rocque's new pop explosion."

"First up in boot camp: great dancing," Dani announced once the boys were back in their regular clothes.

"Mr. X has choreographed for Boyquake, Boyz in the Attic, Madonna, Beyoncé, and Yo Gabba Gabba," Gustavo listed, introducing Mr. X as he demonstrated a dance for each artist Gustavo mentioned.

"And now I will make you explode with the dance. We will start with an x-amination.  Cross leg, spin, pose."

Mr. X did a quick demonstration, and the boys tried copying it.

Kendall and James weren't actually bad at dancing. Logan, on the other hand, needed major help; he managed to hit Carlos in the face and knock him down.

James and Logan quickly helped Carlos up, and James patted Carlos' helmet twice as he assured everyone that he was good.

Mr. X went down the line, starting with Kendall and ending with Logan.

"He is great but not serious. He is serious but not great. He lost a pet when he was young, and he is still sad. And he is just plain awful." Mr. X turned back towards Gustavo. "They are excruciating and cannot be ready, Friday."

"I'll x-double your salary." Gustavo offered, causing the choreographer to quickly agree. "All right, I'm going back in one hour, and I want to see dancers and not dogs."

With hopes of nothing but good things, Dani follows behind Kelly and Gustavo, not before wishing the guys 'luck.'.

After an hour of waiting and two cups of hot chocolate consumed, Dani followed Gustavo and Kelly into the dance studio to check on the boys progress with Mr. X.

The blonde girl was the first one to enter the room, quickly noticing only the boys were there sitting on the ground, causing her to turn off the music.

"What happened to Mr. X?" Kelly questioned, finally looking up from her phone once the music stopped.

"Well, first he banged his head into the wall a few times." Logan explained, rubbing the back of his head.

"Then he got really dizzy," Carlos continued as he hung upside down from the bar with his helmet on.

"Then he said a bunch of bad words that start with X," James added, putting his arms into an X motion, causing Dani's jaw to drop.

"Then he x-quit," Kendall finished, sounding happy about the outcome they caused.

Dani shared a knowing look with Kelly, pulling out pairs of noise-canceling headphones as they watched the producer begin to shake before finally exploding.

...

After Kelly finally got Gustavo to calm down and Dani got the boys into the meeting room, they all sat around the conference table.

"Part two of my great pop group boot camp, the look," Gustavo announced.

"When do we sing?" James asked, flipping through the handout that they were all given.

"When I tell you to sing!" Gustavo snapped.

"Guys, we have some exciting looks that will literally transform you." The male marketer spoke as the pair approached the table.

"Can't we just be ourselves?" Kendall asked as he set his handout on the table.

That caused the marketing team to share a look before they burst out laughing along with Gustavo, instantly shutting down Kendall's comment, as the marketing team pulled up a diagram.

"Boys, we researched and electroshocked focus groups to determine the exact look and name that will sell millions of records." The woman explained.

"Then we turn you over to the stylist to change all your clothes and possibly shave your heads."

James let out a loud shriek, quickly reaching for his hair.

"Now, Griffin wants a tasty dish on Friday. That's why we're giving him..."

The lady pointed at the stylists, causing them to begin tugging on the boys for their new makeover.

Look 1: Boy-liscious.

Kendall was shirtless in overalls that had random patches, Carlos was in a neon tracksuit, Logan was in a light blue blazer that had piano keys along with a yellow bowtie, and finally James was in green pants that were shiny along with a colorful shirt that was patterned.

Look 2: Red, White, and Boy

Simple.

Uncle Sam threw up on them.

Finally Look 3: Danger Boy

They were all in tight clothes that were all black and had streaks in their hair along with eyeliner.

"Danger Boy is dangerous; parents will forbid their kids to buy their dangerous music." The marketing team explained.

"And that's exactly why they will."

"I, uh, can't feel my legs," Logan complained, raising his hand.

"That's because the pants are dangerously tight." The woman whispered from the other side of Gustavo.

"I'm sorry, but these looks are just horrible. Being a teen myself, I found none of these look good. I even found some of them repulsive." Dani grimaced before gesturing toward the boys. "I mean, look at them; they can't even move. How do you expect them to perform?"

"I... hate it as well," Gustavo admitted, agreeing with the girl, causing the boys to let out a sigh of relief.

"So do we." The marketing team in unison.

"I need 5 new looks by tomorrow." Gustavo declared, turning to the boys. "All right, now follow me to hear your first hit single that's going to put me back on top. Move out."

Dani stayed behind with the boys, watching them hold onto each other as they attempted to move together but failed, causing them all to go crashing to the ground, making Dani laugh.

"A little help.

...

After Kendall once again pushed Gustavo's buttons, causing an earthquake, they were in the recording studio as Dani was fixing the control levels.

"It looks like the guys might be getting a little tired; they haven't had a break all day," Dani said, looking at the producer. "There's a good chance they might break at any moment."

"I don't care," Gustavo stated, ignoring what she said before speaking into the mic. "Okay, now it's time for the final phase of Gustavo Rocque's most awesomest pop group boot camp: the singing!"

"What's this place?" Kendall asked.

"It's a sound booth." Dani spoke into the mic. "It isolates your vocals in case we need to edit or enhance them later."

Why are there pillows on the floor?" Carlos questioned.

"Do you want us to nap, 'cause we will." James said eagerly.

"They're in there just to help absorb any extra echo or treble. just like the foam mic covers." Dani explained, causing Kendall to grab the mic off of the stand before hitting himself in the head with it. "Oh, Kelly also put some fruit water in there in case your mouths get dry. Got it?"

The boys nodded at the girl, causing her to move away from the mic, allowing Gustavo to talk.

"Okay, great, and—"

Kendall smacked Carlos in the head with the microphone.

"Funny. Do it again." Carlos said in a threatening tone, only for the blonde boy to do it once more.

"Not so tough without your helmet, are you?" Kendall laughed.

Carlos let out a fake laugh before grabbing one of the blue fruit waters, but instead of hitting Kendall with it, it hit Logan square in his chest.

"Oh boy." Dani muttered.

"Knock it off!" Logan said, irritated as he removed the headphones from his ears.

Carlos did it again, causing Logan to grab a red one that Carlos quickly dodged, making it hit James' white shirt.

"You just ruined my lucky white v-neck!" James shouted, snatching two bottles as he began spraying the three boys.

"Maybe the fruit water was a bad idea." Kelly admitted, speaking her thoughts out loud, causing Dani to nod in agreement.

"Please get them to stop." Gustavo asked in a calm voice.

"Guys, guys!" Dani called, but there was no stopping them as the booth began to fill with feathers from the pillows.

"The pillows were a bad idea, too." Kelly winced as Gustavo stood up from his seat.

"I told you they were tired," Dani said.

"Just have the boys meet me in the studio when they're finished." Gustavo spoke in a threatening, calm voice, turning and walking out with Kelly right behind him.

The girl gave it another minute before it died down.

"If you four hockeyheads are done, Gustavo wants to see you in the studio," Dani said into the mic as the boys looked over to only see Dani and looked around at each other nervously.

...

"You can't sing!" Gustavo screamed at Carlos.

"You can't sing or dance!"

"But I can backflip," Logan said proudly with a grin.

"Stop it. Forever." Gustavo said, causing his smile to vanish.

"Okay."

Gustavo skipped over an eager James and stopped in front of Kendall.

"And worst of all, you don't even seem to want this!" Gustavo screamed as Kendall coughed up feathers from the pillows in the booth.

"What about me?" James spoke up. "I can sing, dance, and I want this!"

"You remind me of Matthew McConaughey!" Gustavo said, causing Dani to sigh.

"Awesome," James smiled.

"He can't stand Matthew McConaughey," Dani informed the boy, sending him a sad smile, causing his smile to drop.

"This group can't sing, can't dance. You don't have a song or a look, and they're covered in feathers! I would rather quit right now than commit pop suicide on Friday in front of the record company!" Gustavo shouted, making Dani's heart break; she was really rooting for them even though they got off on the wrong foot. "However, there is one song I would love to play for you."

Gustavo took a seat at the piano and started with a low key.

this band of dogs is officially dead.

...

After firing the boys, Gustavo sent everyone home. He saw no need for everyone to stay if there was no band.

After twenty minutes of Dani trying to convince Gustavo to hire the boys back and him ignoring her, she finally made her way back to the Palm Woods.

As she stepped into the lobby, she was immediately drawn out to the pool by sounds of arguing and realized it was the boys.

"You guys blew it. You blew my shot." James yelled. "You could've tried harder, but you didn't."

"Okay!" Carlos stood up. "Let's all just calm down and think nice, happy thoughts about kittens."

"You think about kittens with your bad singing and that stupid helmet." James said harshly, shoving him back into the pool chair.

Within a blink of an eye, Carlos was back up, charging at James, while Logan and Kendall grabbed either boy, trying to separate them.

Dani decided to take matters into her own hands.

The blonde walked up behind the four boys and pushed both Carlos and James toward the pool, causing the other two to be dragged in with them.

"Nice, I should have done that..."  The small brunette girl said, wearing a big smile as she high-fived Dani. "I'm Katie, Kendall's sister."

"Katie, what'd you do that for?" Kendall whined, and all four heads popped up out of the pool before Dani had the chance to answer.

"It wasn't me." Katie put her hands up in defense before pointing at the blonde beside her. "It was her."

"DanI? What'd you do that for, and what are you doing here?" Logan asked as Katie walked away. "Shouldn't you be at Rocque Records?"

"One. You guys needed to cool off because you were acting like idiots. Two. I live here and heard screaming from the lobby." Dani explained as the guys looked at each other.

"And Three?" James questioned.

"Oh yeah. Three. Gustavo sent everyone home because he was too stressed out after dealing with you idiots." Dani snapped as she inched closer to the pool with every word, and the boys shrank into the pool.

After James apologized to the guys, and Kendall splashed him, and Carlos and Logan dunked him, Dani went and grabbed them all towels.

...

As night fell, the five teens found themselves sitting around the fire as the guys tried to dry off.

"I think we're all even now." Dani spoke from the corner, referring to the pool, causing the group to chuckle as the boys nodded.

"I could always stay here and be a model; I'm still great-looking," James said, which caused the other four to look at him. "Or the star of a reality show."

"Which one?" Carlos asked with sass in his tone. 'Project Idiot?'?"

James sighed, "That's just your jealousy talking."

"You know what's funny?" Kendall spoke up, glancing over at the boys. "We didn't even get a chance to sing together."

Dani was blown away by how good the boys sounded together and disagreed with Gustavo when he said they couldn't sing.

'Sm-e-el-e-ell like a turd."

James ended by jumping off the bench he got on when he started his solo run. Dani, being the first, stood from her spot and began clapping, causing everyone around the pool to join in with her.

"You guys sound amazing together." Dani complimented. "I knew there was something special with you guys."

"She's right, we should do this!" Kendall said, walking to the other side of the fire, so he was facing the other four. "You guys were right; we really should do this."

"How? We got fired, remember?" Logan mentioned.

"You didn't get fired." Dani said, causing the boys to look at her. "I mean, you got fired, but you didn't try your best."

"I tried my best." James stated, raising his hand.

"We know James." Kendall said. "We know."

"If you're serious about this, I can get Gustavo to meet you at Rocque Records tomorrow morning." Dani spoke, walking over to Kendall, sticking out her hand, causing him to look down at her hand, before looking over to the guys who nodded, causing him to shake it.

Dani turned around towards Guitar Dude. "Guitar Dude, give him something inspirational."

"Thanks." Kendall smiled at the girl before turning his focus back to his buds. "We are hockey players, brothers on ice, and we do not quit. Now are we going to dump the puck and scramble back to the bench, or are we going to grab the puck, pull the goalie, and rush the net big time?"

"You really think we can make it as a boyband?" Carlos asked as James stood.

"No." Kendall answered honestly, making James sit down, sad.

"I do." Dani said, causing them all to look over at the girl. "Look, when you first got here, I was kind of skeptical of you guys, but after spending the day with you four, I honestly think you guys can make it big."

That caused the boys to share a smile.

"I've realized three things since we got here." Kendall spoke. "One. I love singing. Two...I love singing with you guys, and opportunities like this come once in a lifetime."

"What's the third thing?" Logan asked.

"It's minus-eight in Minnesota right now, and I am in love with this pool." Kendall answered, causing the others to chuckle as he put his hand out. "So what's the play? Dump the puck or Big Time Rush?"

"Big Time Rush." James answered, standing up and putting his hand in.

"Big Time Rush." Carlos smiled, putting his helmet on, tapping it twice, before putting his hand on James'.

"Big Time Rush." Logan agreed, also sticking his hand.

All four boys looked over at the blonde girl, which surprised her. "What, me too?"

"Yeah, I mean, you've been the only person who's believed in us since we got here." Kendall said. "No matter how much we've acted like idiots."

Causing the girl to chuckle.

"So you in?"All the boys asked in sync.

"Big Time Rush." Dani said, smiling at the group, placing her hand on Logan's.

...

The next morning, the group of teens found themselves walking down the hall of Rocque Records, with Dani leading the way as they walked towards Gustavo, Kelly, and the rest of the team.

"Well?" Gustavo asked, staring dead at Kendall.

"Okay, we'll do it your way." Kendall spoke. "No goofing off, no pillow fights, and no questions for the next two days."

Both Kelly and Dani looked at Gustavo, waiting for an answer.

"Okay." Gustavo said, looking pleased. "'Girl Time' from the top."

"Except for that." Dani spoke up, making Gustavo turn towards the girl. "That song is kind of... how do I put it nicely? Oh yeah, terrible."

"Oh, let me guess." Gustavo asked sarcastically. "You have a better idea. Well, let's... let's hear it. Let's hear the dog's better song title."

"Big Time. Rush." The four boys say together, making Dani smile.

"It's about four hockey players from Minnesota who have an amazing opportunity in front of them." Kendall explains. "And they're going to take their best shot."

"Also, I kind of have a song that I think will be perfect." Dani said, pulling out lyric sheets and handing one to each of the boys, then to Gustavo and Kelly. "It's called 'Big Time Rush'."

"Really?" All six of them were shocked, looking over the lyrics.

"I started it yesterday morning but was stuck." Dani explained, turning to the guys, making them smile. "But I guess spending my day with the guys helped with inspiration."

"You guys hear that; she called us her inspiration." Carlos smiled, causing the group of teens to chuckle.

'I like it." Kelly said, reading the lyrics, glancing up at Gustavo. "And you've got to stop using the word girl in all of your song titles."

"I..." Gustavo said, dragging it out. "Like it also, we're going to be workin' all night because Friday is 2 days away, and we're in a big time rush!"

The group of teens all high-fived each other.

...

The next two days were filled with nothing but singing and dancing, along with Dani helping pick a style for the guys, and of course she stayed with the laid-back look they already had.

She also got to know the boys more: she learned about Logan's passion for being a doctor, James's always wanting to be famous, Kendall's dream of playing pro hockey for the Minnesota Wild or even the Maple Leafs, and Carlos' love for corn dogs. The boys also took the time to ask about the music industry and herself.

It was finally Friday, and Dani was currently sitting with Gustavo, Kelly, and the CEO of the record company, Griffin. Dani and Kelly stood beside each other and kept glancing at each other with hope that Griffin would like the guys.

"I like 'em, and the board is going to love them. You've got three months to make your demos. I told you boys bands were back." Griffin says, turning around in his chair, standing up, and patting Gustavo's cheek, causing Dani to let out a sigh of relief. "Now, I have to go. My pants are cold."

As Griffin walked out of the room, a smile spread across Dani's face as she went over the mic. "Guess who's staying in L.A."

She backed away from the mic and watched the boys celebrate on the other side of the glass, and she couldn't help but laugh and hug Kelly.

"If you thought the last three days were hard, wait till you see the next three months. Carlos still can't sing, Logan still can't dance, and I still can't stand James." Gustavo said over the mic, making the boys stop.

"We'll work on it." Kendall promises as James throws up his hand in disbelief as Carlos pushes him back.

"Okay, now you can celebrate." Gustavo said, causing the boys to start jumping around and cheering again.

Dani made her way through the booth to the boys, and she jumped onto the back of the person closest to the door, which was Logan. When she jumped off, she was pulled into a hug, then attacked by Carlos, then James, and finally Kendall. She watched the boys end with a group high five.
