Another day alone in her quiet apartment alone is what Danielle 'Dani' Jennings was used to.

It has always only been her, her music and her big empty apartment for the last 2 years since she moved out to LA to become Gustavo Rocque's Assistant and co-collaborator; even though he claims he likes working alone.

She is usually at Rocque Records working on music but was given the week off because both Gustavo and his other Assistant and talent scout, Kelly Wainwright went out to search for Rocque Records next big thing. Dani would have tagged along the only thing was she didn't want to miss class so she stayed in LA.

It was the last day of Gustavo's scouting in Minnesota and what Kelly has told Dani they haven't found anyone talented enough but Dani still has hope.

Dani was currently sitting on her couch with a cup of Hot Cocoa and her keyboard trying to work on a new song as she waited for Kelly to call with news on if they found a star or not.

"So what you're telling me is that this kid talked Gustavo into bringing him and his friends out here to LA to make them a boy band?" Dani questioned, as she paced back and forth in her living room. "And Gustavo actually gave in?"

"I was desperate, okay!" Gustavo exclaimed through the phone, causing the girl to pull it away from her ear.

"It's a long story, but we are leaving the airport right now, so we should be at the Palm Woods in about 15-30 minutes." Kelly explained, the sound of yelling was heard in the background. "Meet me in the lobby, then."

"Yeah, of course." Dani agreed as she stopped pacing. "See you soon."

Dani sighed after she bid her goodbyes and ended the call, knowing that she would be surrounded by four teenage boys soon.

The thing that confused Dani the most was that Gustavo agreed to bring them out here; he must have been extremely desperate if he let them talk him into it.

She checked the time on her phone to see it was already noon, so she decided to go chill at the pool and write a little before Kelly and the boys got here.

The girl grabbed her bag and songbook before making her way out of apartment 2K and towards the elevators.

As Dani made her way through the lobby, she said hello to Buddha Bob and Bitters before making her way out to the pool.

When she got to a pool chair, her focus went straight to her songbook as she hummed lyrics as she continued working with the melody that was stuck in her head.

Dani was pulled from her thoughts when she noticed four unfamiliar boys racing towards pool chairs a few feet away from her. She couldn't even lie; they were all attractive in her eyes.

The first guy that caught Dani's eye was one of the taller ones; this one had blonde hair and had on a gray t-shirt; then there was a shorter guy who was tanner than the rest and he was wearing a longer black t-shirt that was pulled up past his elbows; next to him was another shorter guy who looked a little nerdier than the rest but in a cute nerdy way; and lastly, there was another tall guy but with brown hair and he had on a muscle shirt.

Not too long after the four sat down Camille approached the blondie on the end and slapped him across the face; it should be weird Dani but it's Camille so she was used to it.

Soon, Camille walked away from the group, 'crying', leaving the boys confused.

Dani tried to pay attention to her songbook but couldn't once she heard a familiar voice nearby. She didn't see anyone until the blonde lifted a lid to see Tyler in a trash can.

"The name's Tyler; you may have seen me in various juice box commercials," Tyler introduces himself. "Only, I don't want to be an actor. I want to be a kid."

Soon you hear his mom call his name, so he ducks back into the trash and tells them to hide him, so the blonde covers it back up. Not long after his mom was gone, Tyler popped back out.

"So, is everyone here an actor?" The shorter one with brown hair asked.

"No, that's a guitar dude; he's a songwriter." Tyler explained, pointing to the guy playing the guitar on the other side of them as he got out of the trash can.

"What's up?" Guitar greats and starts strumming his guitar, and what's up three times. "Yeah."

"Oh, that's Lightning, the TV Wonderdog."

Across the pool was a white and gray dog with shades, waving.

"He's good." all four boys say as they wave back to the dog.

"There's the Jennifers. There are three girls with the same name who sing, dance, and act." Tyler explained, walking over to a big fan and pointing it towards the Jennifers.

"Hey," the tall brunette called, causing the Jennifers to stop and turn towards the group. "We're in a band."

"Really? Oh my gosh." The Jennifers gasped, acting as if they were interested, but went back to being serious. "And we're actresses who don't care."

"Do you want to go to the movies tonight?" The tan one of the group asked with a giant smile.

"Are you guys starring in the movie?" Blonde Jennifer asked, and he responded, 'No.'.

"Then no." Curly Hair Jennifer answered.

"If that seems harsh, it's because it is, and so is this town, so..." The Brown Jennifer said, and they all put their shades on and walked away, but not before curly-haired Jennifer paid Tyler.

"I'm so in love." said the tan one as he slid down the chair.

"Okay, reality check." The blonde boy spoke, turning towards his friends and turning his back towards Dani. "We have to promise ourselves now that we're not going to let this singing thing or this town change us; we are four hockey players from Minnesota, and we can never forget that. Do we all agree?"

"Do you really think you can beat it?" Dani spoke up, gaining their attention as she raised her eyebrow. "I'm just saying, you're in LA now, Minnesota. I see new faces around here every day saying the same thing, and within the first five minutes, they seem to convert to the California way."

"Yeah, well, you don't know me and my friends." He shrugged. "We can get through anything."

"Yeah, whatever you say." Dani muttered, patting the boys arms as she walked past them to grab a smoothie.

Not even ten minutes later, Dani came back to see the boys weren't in the chairs but on floats in the pools, sipping from coconuts.

Before Dani had the chance to sit back down, she heard someone call her name and see Kelly, so she made her way over to Kelly.

"Hey, so how was the drive here?" Dani asked, approaching Kelly as she typed away on her phone.

"Well, once we got here, I said the word pool; they ran, so I showed mom and little sister the apartment, and so I assumed they were here." Kelly explained, typing on her phone and not looking up.

"Let me guess two are taller, one blonde and the other brunette, while the other two are shorter than them, one tan and the other kind of nerdy." Dani asked, watching them get out of the pool and stand about 10 feet in front of the Jennifers.

Kelly looked up, making Dani point towards the four boys, causing Kelly to head their way with Dani in tow.

"Ok, mom's all checked in; your sister complained again that she had no friends, so your mom let her watch Shark Cage on FOX." Kelly explained as they looked at her for a quick second and turned back around. "And now it's time to start Gustavo's boy-band boot camp."

"Yeah, and so are we, Minnesota." Dani said, butting in, causing them all to turn towards Dani and Kelly. "And they won't go for you. So let's go."

"Ho ho ho. Kelly and hot girl... Clearly, you don't understand the power of the" The tall brunette spoke as they all pointed to his face.

Kelly was about to say something, but Dani held her hand up, cutting her off. "No, Kelly, let them do it; go ahead and work your so called magic."

"Ladies, I don't think we properly introduced..." The tall brunette started but didn't get to finish as the Jennifers threw their smoothies on all four of them. "Ourselves."

"Okay, let's go to boot camp."

....

On the way to the studio, Dani finally learned that the guys' names are Kendall, James, Logan, and Carlos. The entire way to the studio, James tried to hit on the Jennings girl.

"Welcome to Rocque Records." Kelly spoke as they made their way down the hall. "Where you are going to sing, dance, and sweat your butts off if you want to end up on these walls."

"Do we want to end up on these walls?" Kendall asked as they all stopped in front of the poster of Boyquake.

Causing James and Dani to answer at the same time.

"Yes!"

"Eh."

The girls comment made the other guys laugh.

"Guys, say hi to Nicole Scherzinger from The Pussycat Dolls." Kelly introduced the woman, causing the guys to do a double take before they rushed over.

"Hey, guys, what's up?" Nicole spoke, letting out a light chuckle.

Dani noticed the boys weren't moving, causing her to hit the boy she was next to-that boy being Carlos-as she made her way to Kelly.

"He's going to marry you." Carlos blurted out, pointing over to James, who was standing right next to him.

"Where's my ring?" Nicole asked in a serious tone, but jokingly.

"I... I... I..." James started but couldn't get it out, so Kendall butted in. "We're recording some demos with Gustavo."

"Gustavo..." Nicole questioned, dragging it out as Dani let out a little chuckle.

"Yeah. Have you worked with him?" Kendall asked, causing Nicole to look over at Dani and Kelly.

"Yes, actually on my first album. Let's just say we had some creative differences." Nicole answered, looking over at Dani, causing a grin to cover her face.

"Nicole, baby!" Gustavo called as he opened the door to his office, but quickly closed it as Nicole threw the telephone that was sitting on the table nearby against the door.

"Good luck, guys." Nicole bid as she and her people walked away, still leaving the boys to watch them leave.

"All clear." Kelly called, causing Gustavo's office door to fly open, and he came and stood between Dani and Kelly.

"She still hates you." Dani says, laughing a little bit, causing Kelly to smile.

"Ok, so you guys ready to be stars?" Gustavo asked, causing the boys to reply with a 'yeah' as Dani grabbed the helmet from Carlos. "Good. Then prove to me that you can be stars. We have 3 days to prove to this record company that there's something... anything here."

"3 days?" Kendall asked, looking around at the guys. "What happened to 3 months?"

"The CEO of all of our butts wants to see you guys on Friday." Gustavo explains, pointing at all of us.

"We have to be a band in 3 days?" Logan asked, very nervous.

"No, you have to be a great band in 3 days," Gustavo corrects the boy, taking a step closer to Kendall. "Unless you don't think that you can do it, Mr. Make us a pop group."

"Oh, we can do it. No problem." Kendall said, following Gustavo as he stepped closer to him. "Bring it on."

"Oh, I will bring it." Gustavo said, both of their faces were only centimeters apart. "I'll bring everything I got."

"This is a little too close for me." Kendall admits, backing up a little bit.

"Yeah, me too." Gustavo said, walking away as they all followed him.

...

"To be a great pop group, you need four things." Gustavo explained, walking in front of the four boys who were lined up in a row. "Great dancing, a great look, a great song, and great singing."

Kelly blew an air horn, summoning Mr. X, stylists, and the marketing team.

"And by the end of today, me and my team will transform the four dogs from Minnesota into Gustavo Rocque's new pop explosion." Gustavo explains, posing along with his team, except for the marketing team, which tried but quickly got shut down.

"First up in boot camp, great dancing," Dani explains after the boys were finally back in their regular clothes.

"Mr. X has choreographed for Boyquake, Boyz in the Attic, Madonna, Beyonce, and Yo Gabba Gabba." Gustavo spoke, introducing Mr. X as he demonstrated a dance for each artist Gustavo listed.

"And now I will make you explode with the dance." Mr. X said, causing Carlos to put his helmet on his head. "We will start with an X-amination. Cross leg, spin, pose."

Mr. X did a quick demonstration, and the boys tried copying it; Kendall and James didn't do badly, and Logan hit Carlos in the face, knocking him down.

James and Logan quickly helped Carlos up, and James patted Carlos' helmet twice as he assured everyone that he was good.

Mr. X went down the line, starting with Kendall and ending with Logan.

"He is great but not serious. He is serious, but not great. He lost a pet when he was young, and he is still sad. And he is just plain awful." Mr. X turned back towards Gustavo. "They are excruciating and cannot be ready, Friday."

"I'll x-double your salary." Gustavo offers, causing Mr. X to quickly agree. "All right, I'm going to

With hopes of nothing but good things, Dani follows behind Kelly and Gustavo, not before wishing the guys 'luck'.

...

After an hour of waiting and two cups of cocoa consumed by Dani, the trio made their way back to the dance studio to check on the boys progress with Mr. X.

Dani was the first and only one paying attention, quickly noticing that only the boys were there with no Mr. X.

"What happened to Mr. X?" Kelly asked, looking around at the boys.

"Well, first he banged his head into the wall a few times." Logan explained, rubbing the back of his head, causing Dani to notice that his light blue shirt was soaked in sweat.

"Then he got really dizzy." Carlos spoke from his position upside down on the bar.

"Then he said a bunch of bad words that start with X," James added, putting his arms into an X motion.

"Then he x-quit." Kendall finished in a cheery tone, as he enjoyed Gustavo becoming more stressed with every word they said.

Dani and Kelly shared a knowing look, causing them to both pull out a pair of noise-canceling headphones as Dani saw the man start to shake in anger.

...

After a while, Kelly finally got Gustavo to calm down, and Dani rounded the four boys up into the meeting room.

They all sat on one end of the long black table, while Dani, Kelly, and Gustavo sat on the other end as the marketing team began showing the looks they came up with.

"Part two of my great pop-group boot camp: the look." Gustavo said.

"When do we sing?" James asked, flipping through the handout that they were all given.

"When I tell you to sing," Gustavo snapped, causing the boys to jump-well, except Kendall.

"Guys, we have some exciting looks that will literally transform you." the male marketing person said.

"Can't we just be ourselves?" Kendall asked, setting his handout on the table.

After the marketing people and Gustavo laughed creepily, they instantly shut down Kendall's comment as the marketing team pulled out a diagram.

"Boys, we researched and electroshocked focus groups to determine the exact look and name that will sell millions of records." the lady explained.

"Then we turn you over to the stylist to change all your clothes and possibly shave your heads." the guys explained, causing James to let out a loud shriek.

Dani sat and watched as the marketing team began to pitch ideas that she just thought were plain awful.

Look 1: Boy-liscious.

Kendall was shirtless in overalls that had random patches, Carlos was in a neon tracksuit, Logan was in a light blue blazer that had piano keys along with a yellow bowtie, and finally James was in green pants that were shiny along with a colorful shirt that was patterned.

Look 2: Red, White, and Boy

Simple. Uncle Tom threw up on them.

Finally Look 3: Danger Boy

They were all in tight clothes that were all black and had streaks in their hair, along with eyeliner.

"Danger Boy is dangerous; parents will forbid their kids to buy their dangerous music." one of them explained.

"And that's exactly why they will." said the other as they high-fived.

"I, uh, can't feel my legs." Logan announced, raising his hand.

"These looks are horrible; I mean, being a teen myself, I found none of these looks good." Dani spoke, standing up from her chair and approaching the boys. "I mean, look, they can't even move, let alone dance."

"I... hate it as well." Gustavo agreed with Dani as the boys let out a sigh of relief.

"So do we." the marketing team said together.

"I need five new looks by tomorrow." Gustavo told the marketing team before turning to the boys. "All right, now follow me to hear your first hit single that's going to put me back on top."

As they all began to leave the room, the boys were still in their Danger Boy outfits, causing them to end up falling to the ground.

Dani, being the nice person she wa,e helped them off the ground after she laughed.

...

After Kendall once again pushed Gustavo's buttons, causing an earthquake, they were in the recording studio as Dani was fixing the control levels.

"I think the guys are getting a little punchy; they haven't had a break all day," Dani explained. "They might break at any moment."

"I don't care." Gustavo said, ignoring what she said, before speaking into the mic. "Ok, and now it's time for the final phase of Gustavo Rocque's most awesomest pop-group boot camp, the singing!"

not even five minutes in the recording booth, the boys managed to hit each other with the mic, cover themselves in feathers from the pillows, and spray colored water from the fruit water that Kelly put in the booth.

"If you four are done, Gustavo wants to see you in the studio." Dani annouced into the mic, causing the boys to look over, only to see Dani causing them to look around at each other nervously.

...

Knowing that Gustavo wasn't going to hold anything back, Dani stood next to Kelly as she watched him yell at the guys.

"You can't sing!" Gustavo screamed at Carlos.

"You can't sing or dance!"

"But I can backflip." Logan proudly said, grining, but soon his smile vanished.

Gustavo skipped over an eager James and stopped at Kendall.

"Worst of all, you don't even seem to want this!" Gustavo screamed, and in response, Kendall coughed up feathers in his face.

"What about me?" James asked eagerly. "I can sing, dance, and I want this!"

"You remind me of Matthew McConaughey." Gustavo spoke, causing Dani to sigh.

"Awsome." James said with a big smile.

"He can't stand Matthew McConaghey." Dani stated, sending the boy a sad smile, causing James' smile to vanish like Logan's.

"This group can't sing, can't dance. You don't have a song or a look, and they're covered in feathers. I would rather quit right now than commit pop suicide on Friday in front of the record company!" Gustavo yelled, and it made Dani's heart break; she was really rooting for them. "However, there is one song I would love to play for you."

Gustavo took a seat at the piano and started with a low key. "ooh, now that I'm through bangin' my head, this band of dogs is officially dead."

...

After firing the boys, Gustavo decided to send Dani home for the day too. After about twenty minutes of Dani trying to convince Gustavo to hire the boys back and him ignoring her, she gave up and decided to make her way back to the Palm Woods.

As Dani made her way through the lobby, she was drawn out to the pool by the sound of arguing.

"You guys blew it! You blew my shot!" James yelled at the other three. "You could've tried harder, but you didn't."

"Okay!" Carlos spoke calmly. "Let's all just calm down and think nice, happy thoughts about kittens."

"You think about kittens with your bad singing and that stupid helmet!" James snapped, shoving Carlos back into a pool chair.

Within a blink of an eye, Carlos was back up charging at James, while Logan and Kendall grabbed either boy and tried separating them.

Dani decided to take matters into her own hands by walking up behind the boys, pushing both Carlos and James into the pool, causing the other two to be pulled in too.

"Nice, I should have done that." A small brunette girl spoke, wearing a big smile as she high-fived Dani. "I'm Katie, Kendall's sister."

"Dani."

"Katie, what'd you do that for?" Kendall whined, resurfacing from under water with the others.

"It wasn't me, even though I should have." Katie said, putting her hands up in surrender before pointing at the blonde beside her. "It was her."

"Dani, what'd you do that for, and what are you doing here?" Logan asked as Katie walked away. "Shouldn't you be at Rocque Records?"

"One. You guys needed to cool off because you were acting like idiots. Two. I live here and heard screaming from the lobby." Dani explained, causing the guys to look at each other.

"And three?" James said, scared to ask.

"Oh yeah. Three. Gustavo sent me home because he was stressed after dealing with you idiots!" Dani snapped, inching closer to the pool with every word, causing the boys to shrink into the pool.

After James apologized to the guys, Kendall splashed him, and Carlos and Logan dunked him, Dani went and grabbed them all towels.

The five of them ended up on a circle bench with Dani between Logan and Carlos as they sat around a fire as it began to get dark and the sun began to set.

"I could always stay here and be a model; I'm still great-looking." James said, which caused the other four to look at him. "Or the star of a reality show."

"Is he always like this?" Dani questioned, looking over at the others.

"Yes!"

"Which one?" Carlos asked with sass in his tone, looking over at James. 'Project Idiot'?"

"That was a good one." Dani chuckled, fist-bumping the boy beside her.

James sighed, ignoring the girl. "That's just your jealousy talking."

"You know what's funny?" Kendall said to the boys. "We didn't even get a chance to sing together."

Before anyone had a chance to respond,
Kendall started singing.

And you look like a turd and smell like a turd'

Dani was blown away by how good the boys sounded together and disagreed with Gustavo when he said they couldn't sing.

'Sm-e-el-e-ell like a turd."

James ended by jumping off the bench he got on when he started his solo run. Dani, being the first, stood from her spot and began clapping, causing everyone around the pool to join in with her.

"You guys sound amazing together." Dani complimented. "I knew there was something special with you guys."

"She's right, we should do this!" Kendall said, walking to the other side of the fire, so he was facing the other four. "You guys were right; we really should do this."

"How? We got fired, remember?" Logan mentioned.

"You didn't get fired." Dani said, causing the boys to look at her. "I mean, you got fired, but you didn't try your best."

"I tried my best." James stated, raising his hand.

"We know James." Kendall said. "We know."

"If you're serious about this, I can get Gustavo to meet you at Rocque Records tomorrow morning." Dani spoke, walking over to Kendall, sticking out her hand, causing him to look down at her hand, before looking over to the guys who nodded, causing him to shake it.

Dani turned around towards Guitar Dude. "Guitar Dude, give him something inspirational."

"Thanks." Kendall smiled at the girl before turning his focus back to his buds. "We are hockey players, brothers on ice, and we do not quit. Now are we going to dump the puck and scramble back to the bench, or are we going to grab the puck, pull the goalie, and rush the net big time?"

"You really think we can make it as a boyband?" Carlos asked as James stood.

"No." Kendall answered honestly, making James sit down, sad.

"I do." Dani said, causing them all to look over at the girl. "Look, when you first got here, I was kind of skeptical of you guys, but after spending the day with you four, I honestly think you guys can make it big."

That caused the boys to share a smile.

"I've realized three things since we got here." Kendall spoke. "One. I love singing. Two...I love singing with you guys, and opportunities like this come once in a lifetime."

"What's the third thing?" Logan asked.

"It's minus-eight in Minnesota right now, and I am in love with this pool." Kendall answered, causing the others to chuckle as he put his hand out. "So what's the play? Dump the puck or Big Time Rush?"

"Big Time Rush." James answered, standing up and putting his hand in.

"Big Time Rush." Carlos smiled, putting his helmet on, tapping it twice, before putting his hand on James'.

"Big Time Rush." Logan agreed, also sticking his hand.

All four boys looked over at the blonde girl, which surprised her. "What, me too?"

"Yeah, I mean, you've been the only person who's believed in us since we got here." Kendall said. "No matter how much we've acted like idiots."

Causing the girl to chuckle.

"So you in?"All the boys asked in sync.

"Big Time Rush." Dani said, smiling at the group, placing her hand on Logan's.

...

The next morning, the group of teens found themselves walking down the hall of Rocque Records, with Dani leading the way as they walked towards Gustavo, Kelly, and the rest of the team.

"Well?" Gustavo asked, staring dead at Kendall.

"Okay, we'll do it your way." Kendall spoke. "No goofing off, no pillow fights, and no questions for the next two days."

Both Kelly and Dani looked at Gustavo, waiting for an answer.

"Okay." Gustavo said, looking pleased. "'Girl Time' from the top."

"Except for that." Dani spoke up, making Gustavo turn towards the girl. "That song is kind of... how do I put it nicely? Oh yeah, terrible."

"Oh, let me guess." Gustavo asked sarcastically. "You have a better idea. Well, let's... let's hear it. Let's hear the dog's better song title."

"Big Time. Rush." The four boys say together, making Dani smile.

"It's about four hockey players from Minnesota who have an amazing opportunity in front of them." Kendall explains. "And they're going to take their best shot."

"Also, I kind of have a song that I think will be perfect." Dani said, pulling out lyric sheets and handing one to each of the boys, then to Gustavo and Kelly. "It's called 'Big Time Rush'."

"Really?" All six of them were shocked, looking over the lyrics.

"I started it yesterday morning but was stuck." Dani explained, turning to the guys, making them smile. "But I guess spending my day with the guys helped with inspiration."

"You guys hear that; she called us her inspiration." Carlos smiled, causing the group of teens to chuckle.

'I like it." Kelly said, reading the lyrics, glancing up at Gustavo. "And you've got to stop using the word girl in all of your song titles."

"I..." Gustavo said, dragging it out. "Like it also, we're going to be workin' all night because Friday is 2 days away, and we're in a big time rush!"

The group of teens all high-fived each other.

The next two days were filled with nothing but singing and dancing, along with Dani helping pick a style for the guys, and of course she stayed with the laid-back look they already had.

She also got to know the boys more: she learned about Logan's passion for being a doctor, James's always wanting to be famous, Kendall's dream of playing pro hockey for the Minnesota Wild or even the Maple Leafs, and Carlos' love for corn dogs. The boys also took the time to ask about the music industry and herself.

It was finally Friday, and Dani was currently sitting with Gustavo, Kelly, and the CEO of the record company, Griffin. Dani and Kelly stood beside each other and kept glancing at each other with hope that Griffin would like the guys.

"I like 'em, and the board is going to love them. You've got three months to make your demos. I told you boys bands were back." Griffin says, turning around in his chair, standing up, and patting Gustavo's cheek, causing Dani to let out a sigh of relief. "Now, I have to go. My pants are cold."

As Griffin walked out of the room, a smile spread across Dani's face as she went over the mic. "Guess who's staying in L.A."

She backed away from the mic and watched the boys celebrate on the other side of the glass, and she couldn't help but laugh and hug Kelly.

"If you thought the last three days were hard, wait till you see the next three months. Carlos still can't sing, Logan still can't dance, and I still can't stand James." Gustavo said over the mic, making the boys stop.

"We'll work on it." Kendall promises as James throws up his hand in disbelief as Carlos pushes him back.

"Okay, now you can celebrate." Gustavo said, causing the boys to start jumping around and cheering again.

Dani made her way through the booth to the boys, and she jumped onto the back of the person closest to the door, which was Logan. When she jumped off, she was pulled into a hug, then attacked by Carlos, then James, and finally Kendall. She watched the boys end with a group high five.
