big time lies

With the Avery siblings back at the Palm Woods, Dani was working overtime just to keep Kendall from finding out about Mac's return.

Yeah, Dani and Mac got past the awkward 'we just broke up' stage and were now in the 'we're friendly but it's still pretty awkward' stage.

But just because they were kind of friends again didn't mean she thought it was a good idea for her ex to be living in the same building as her current boyfriend, who still didn't like the Avery boy.

"What is everyone's current status?" Dani spoke into the walkie as she sat in the comfort of her apartment. "Over."

"There are no visuals of Golden Toes in the lobby." Camille's voice rang through the device.

"Also negative here. He's not at the park." Jo spoke.

"Wait, I see something." Camille spoke, causing Dani to tense up. "I currently have eyes on Logan, and he's behind the front desk."

"The front desk?" Dani muttered to herself before she talked into the walkie. "Well, what's he doing? Over."

"I don't know... He seems to be talking to someone on a walkie-talkie."

"He knows." Dani groaned.

"Wait." Dani's ears perked up. "Looks like he can't get in. He's leaving the desk."

"Katie?"

"All clear. Golden Toes has left the coupe." The Knight girl announced. "I repeat, Golden Toes has just left the coupe in a mini."

"Copy that. Nice work, team. Over and out." Dani grinned, grabbing her bag and her walkie-talkie as she made her way toward the door.

As she stepped out into the hallway, she came face to face with the Knight boy, causing a smile to grow on both of their faces.

"Hey. Ready to hit the pool?" Dani asked.

"Yep! And no one will come between us." Kendall said, causing the girl to feel worried.

"Right. No one." Dani forced a grin before her eyes fell on the small device in the boy's hand. "What's that for?"

Kendall quickly looked to spot the walkie-talkie before looking back up at his girlfriend.
"You know... just guy stuff." Kendall said, causing the girl to slowly nod. "What about you?"

"Uh, you know, girl stuff." Dani trailed off, sending the boy a smile after quickly sticking the device into her bag.

"Yeah." Kendall nodded, causing the girl to let out a light chuckle.

The sound of a door opening behind the Jennings made the girl glance over her shoulder, only to come face to face with Lucy.

"Lucy. You're here." Dani stumbled out, shocked to see the girl standing in front of her.

"Yeah, I moved back. I'm surprised your boyfriend didn't tell you after we talked in the lobby." Lucy admitted, making Dani glance over at the boy just as the Stone girl sent him a wink along with a flirty smile.

...

The couple had made their way out to the pool, meeting up with the boys as they watched the Stone girl working on music on the other side.

"This is so awkward." Logan muttered from behind the blonde girl.

"I can't imagine what Dani must be going through." James said.

"I know." Carlos agreed, causing Dani to glance over at her boyfriend, who only shook his head. "It's like her ex-best friend who stole her song and turned it into a hit that she didn't get credit for is literally living in between them."

"Guys, she's right here!" Kendall snapped, causing the boys to look down at them.

"It's fine. Her coming back to the Palm Woods doesn't bother me.Just like when Jo came back, it didn't bother me. And she was actually an ex."

"But you almost left." Carlos stated, causing the girl's head to snap up at him as she sent him a glare. "It didn't bother you one bit."

Dani sent him a smile before turning her attention back to the Stone girl.

"I think I just peed a little." Carlos muttered to Logan and James, causing the duo to step a few inches away from the helmet-wearing boy.

"Anyways, Lucy and I are... going to be fine. She apologized, and we're going to move past it." Dani breathed out, noticing the red-haired girl glancing their way, causing Dani to send a smile, motioning for the girl to come over.

"Oh, quick! She's coming over here!" James exclaimed. "Act natural!"

"Be cool! Be cool!"

Kendall quickly dropped his magazine and grabbed some binoculars; Carlos began doing jumping jacks, Logan began playing with a kazoo he had in his pocket, and James was playing with his swing and catch toy.

"Why are you guys acting so weird?" Dani questioned, glancing around at the four boys, causing them to quickly share a look.

"Uh..."

"We're not acting weird!" They exclaimed, quickly sharing another look before turning back to the blonde. "Your acting weird!"

"Hey, guys." Lucy's voice gained the group's attention, the girl quickly sensing the shift in energy.

"'Sup. You know, just acting natural." Carlos stated as he continued jumping. "Why'd you move back in?"

Everyone froze what they were doing as they glanced at the boy for his blunt question.

"Look, I didn't move back to start any drama, but my album's all about being strong and doing what makes you happy, and the Palm Woods makes me happy, so I'm back."

"Well, I'm happy for you." Dani said, causing the others to nod.

"Okay." James dragged out, dropping the toy onto the girl's head, causing her to let out a pained sound as her hand shot up to her head. "Now that that's out of the way..." The boy stepped over the pool chairs, pushing the couple apart as he made his way past, grinning as he stopped in front of the red-haired girl. "Carlos and I are off to Rocque Records. Why don't you tag along, and you and I can, I don't know, make out?

"James, I just got out of a... situationship." Lucy trailed off before smirking up at the boy. "Besides, I'd rather eat hair."
"You will be mine!" James exclaimed before turning and storming away with Carlos and James.

"Anyways." Lucy turned her attention back to the couple sitting in front of her. "I hope I didn't make things awkward; I was hoping we could still be friends."

"I would love that." Dani nodded.

"Me too." Kendall awkwardly laughed.

"See ya."

The Stone girl turned and disappeared into the lobby.

...

The couple stayed down by the pool, Dani lying back with her head on the boy's shoulder as they laughed and looked through the boy's magazine.

Do it like nobody's around

"That was Big Time Rush's latest hit, and now here's Lucy Stone." The radio host announced.

Dani felt the boy quickly shift underneath her as the sound of Lucy's voice filled her ears.

You dumped me for her

You-

Kendall quickly hit the button to change the station, only for it to be playing the same song.

Kiss me in an elevator

Then you-

The boy tried again only to get the same outcome.

You dumped me for her

"Kendall, it's fine, seriously." Dani reassured the boy, watching him stress over the song.

"Just one second."

He tried one last time, and a man's voice filled the air, causing him to sigh in relief.

"You're listening to all news, all the time... Except for Lucy Stone's newest hit, 'You Dumped Me.'."

Kendall quickly got out of his chair, grabbing the radio from the table before throwing it into the pool, causing a giant splash.

Dani's jaw dropped as the boy quickly collected himself as he turned back to the girl, "I think I'm gonna go get my MP3 player."

"I think that's for the best." Dani nodded in agreement, letting out a light chuckle.

The boy turned and quickly walked away, causing Dani to let out a deep breath.

"Hey, Dani."

The blonde's head quickly snapped in the direction of the voice as the Avery boy made his way over to the girl.

"Mac. What are you doing here?" Dani asked, glancing around.

"Don't you remember? I told you I was moving in." Mac said, raising his eyebrow at the girl as he glanced around too. "Looking for someone?"
"What!" Dani exclaimed, quickly turning her attention to the boy. "No! I mean, my boyfriend ran to grab something but will be right back."

"That's right. The amazing Kendall Knight."

"That's the one." Dani nervously chuckled, glancing over toward the door. "Was there something I could help you with?"

"Right, I forgot I have to have a reason to come talk to you now." Mac hummed, glancing away.

"Mac, you know that's not what I meant." Dani said.

"Yeah, I know." The boy huffed, glancing back at the girl. "Anyway, the band's throwing a little housewarming party tonight, and we would love it if you could make it."

"You know, you're not supposed to have parties at the Palm Woods."

"When has that rule ever stopped us?" Mac snorted, standing up. "Hope to catch you there. And make sure you bring your friends."

Dani didn't even have the chance to respond before the boy walked away, causing the girl to shake her head.

The girl waited another five minutes, and Kendall had still yet to come back, so she decided to go see if the boy needed help finding his device.

Dani pushed herself up off her seat and headed straight for the elevators.

Pressing the button, she waited patiently for the doors to open, and when they did, she saw Kendall inside with Lucy.

The Jennings girl raised her eyebrow as the pair looked back at the girl, the boy looking very uncomfortable with his back pressed up against the elevator wall with wide eyes.

"Am I interrupting something?" Dani asked, crossing her arms.

"Oh..."

"Hey, Dani." Lucy grinned, waving at the blonde girl as she passed by, walking away from the scene she just caused.

Dani watched the girl walk away before her head snapped back to her boyfriend as he made his way to her.

"Got the music."

"Did something just happen in the elevator?" Dani questioned.

"Um..." Kendall trailed off, trying to find his words.

"Well?"

"In there?" Kendall pointed over his shoulder, causing the girl to nod.

"That's the elevator, isn't it?" Dani asked.

"No. Absolutely nothing happened in there." The boy motioned into the elevator, allowing the girl to relax. "I promise."

"Okay, I believe you." Dani nodded, sending the boy a small smile.

"Do you smell something burning?" Kendall suddenly asked, causing the girl to raise her eyebrow.

"Yup!" Buddha Bob popped up from behind the boy with a propane torch. "Your pants are on fire."

Dani gasped as her eyes widened, quickly covering her mouth as she watched her boyfriend shriek, quickly racing away toward the pool.

"Pants on fire!"

...

Dani couldn't shake the feeling that something was off, and since she couldn't go talk to the boys about it, she went to the next best place.

"Here you go." Jo said, placing a cup of water on the table in front of the girl before taking a seat on the couch beside Camille as the trio sat in the Taylor girl's apartment.

"Thanks." Dani mumbled, taking a small sip before sitting it down.

"So let me get this straight: you think he's lying to you about not being okay with Lucy being back at the Palm Woods while you're lying to him about Mac being back at the Palm Woods?" Camille questioned.

"Hey, I'm not lying, just withholding information. But yeah, pretty much." Dani nodded. "I mean, he literally threw the radio into the pool after it played her song, and his pants literally caught on fire... Do you guys think I'm overreacting?"

"Of course not. You have every right to react the way you are." Jo said, causing Camille to nod in agreement. "But—"

"But? Why is there a but?" Dani questioned, raising her eyebrow.

"Do you think maybe it could be more about the song than the girl?" Jo suggested.

"What do you mean?" Dani nervously chuckled.

"After the whole nearly being Swifted thing, did you guys ever talk... you know, about it? As in you writing a mean but catchy song about him?" Camille asked.

"Of course. I mean, it was brief, but he said he was fine." Dani said, causing the duo to share a look. "You think he was lying about being okay."

"He was about to become one of the most hated guys in the whole world." Jo reminded the girl.

"Right." Dani mumbled, looking down.

"But what do we know!" Camille exclaimed, causing the girl's head to shoot up. "He's your boyfriend, and if you think he's telling the truth, he must be, right?"

"I'm not so sure anymore."

"Just go talk to him." Jo spoke, causing the blonde to glance over at her. "I'm sure if you are honest with him and just tell him the truth, he will open up too."

"I hate it when you guys are right." Dani groaned in defeat, knowing that her friends were probably right and that she just needed to talk to the Knight boy. "

"We love you too." Camille chuckled. "Wait, where is Kendall? I thought you guys were hanging out."

"Oh, we were, but his pants caught on fire."

...

The blonde girl met back up with Kendall down in the lobby after he changed out of his fried pants.

"Hey, I'll be right back." Dani said, standing up from her spot on the couch only for him to do the same.

As she made her way across the lobby, she could feel him right behind her, literally.

Every time she stepped, she felt his foot hit hers, nearly knocking her over a few times.

The girl stopped in her tracks, causing the boy to bump into her back before she quickly turned to face him.

"Okay, what gives, Kendork?" Dani asked, raising her eyebrow at the boy. "Why are you walking so close to me?"

"Because..." Kendall stuttered out. "We're close?"

That caused the girl to shake her head before heading to the bathroom door, stopping when she felt him still behind her.

"You're not going to follow me in the bathroom, are you?"

"No." The boy shrugged, causing the girl to nod, turning to enter the bathroom but was quickly stopped. "But you should hold it!"

"And why's that?" Dani questioned, closing the door as she turned back to the boy.

"Because... I read in a book that it is good for you." Kendall said, causing the girl to give him a serious look. "Holding it right now."

"Did you now?" She questioned, causing the boy to hum in response. "And what book was that?"

"Come again?"

"What book did you read that in?" Dani asked, crossing her arms.
"Uh, the book? It was called Our Bodily... Functions." The boy trailed off, causing the girl to roll her eyes.

"Okay, did something happen in the elevator? Because you're acting weirder than normal?"

"Nothing happened in the elevator." The boy lied.

"Good, then you can wait right here." Dani said, walking into the bathroom before the boy had the chance to stop her again.

The girl quickly did her business and washed her hands, but when she went to open the door, it wouldn't.

"What's going on?" Dani called, trying to pull the door open. "Kendall, you still there?"

"I think it's locked!" His voice rang from the other side of the door as if it was against the door.

She continued trying to get the door open when a female voice rang from the other side of the door, causing her to press her ear against the door.

"How about blow you a kiss?"

Was that Lucy's voice she heard?

Suddenly everything went quiet, and the door was 'unlocked'.

Dani was able to pull the door open, allowing her to leave the bathroom.

"Was that Lucy I heard?" She questioned, closing the door behind her.

"No."

"Are you lying to me?" Dani asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Not now!" Kendall exclaimed, swatting at his shoulders. "Am I lying to you, or ever? So why don't we just get on out of here? You smell something burning?"

"Yeah, your pants are on fire again." Buddha Bob appeared behind the boy again, causing the girl's eyes to go wide.

"Pants on fire! Pants on fire!"

...

Dani knocked on the door of the boy's apartment before entering.

"Hi!" Kendall exclaimed, panicking with a smile.

"Hey." Dani smiled lightly, approaching the boy. "Listen, I've been wanting to talk to you about - those hideous pants."

"Uh, yeah, see, what happened was—"  Kendall stuttered out.

"Wait, is that Lucy's guitar?" Dani interjected, pushing past the boy and picking up the familiar red instrument.

"Uh, I mean, no, it is Logan's." Kendall lied.
"It literally says her name right there in the corner." She pointed out.

"That means guitar in Icelandic." He stated, causing the girl to raise her eyebrow. "It is actually pronounced Lou-ki."

Dani carefully placed the guitar back down, nodding her head, knowing then and there that the boy was lying and was doing it so easily.

"I've just had this feeling all day, and you've been acting weird... I just would hate Lucy being back to coming between us." Dani groaned, hitting the swirly slide. "It's just so frustrating!"

With the sudden force, the Stone girl came sliding down the slide, causing Dani to look at her gaping.

"Hey, Dani." Lucy breathed out, causing Dani to glance from the girl up at the boy.
"Uh..."

Dani shook her head, quickly pushing her way past the boy.

"Dani, wait!"

But she didn't stop; she stormed out of the apartment right past Katie and Mama Knight as he chased after her.

She made it all the way to the park before she finally stopped, tired of hearing the boys' calls.

"I cannot run in these pants!" Kendall exclaimed, causing the girl to quickly turn around and face him.

"You have been lying to me, Kendall Knight.' Dani said, hurt dripping from her voice. "Logan doesn't play guitar; I would know that! And it's pronounced Ljós, and it means light. My grandmother's Scandinavian, remember?"

"Right." Kendall muttered. "Yes. I lied. Lucy tried to kiss me in the elevator."

"What?" She breathed out.

"I didn't tell you because I thought you... No, I knew you would get upset, because I know you." Kendall explained. "I was afraid you were going to get the wrong idea and we might break up. I didn't want to see you upset."

Dani sent the boy a small smile.

"If we're being honest, I lied too." Dani admitted, causing the boy to raise his eyebrow in surprise. "Well, I wouldn't count it as lying, more like withholding the truth."

"Dani." Kendall chuckled.

"Mac's back."

"Like visiting?"

"No, he moved back here yesterday. To the Palm Woods." Dani answered, glancing into the boy's eyes.
"Okay." Kendall said.

"Okay?"

"What am I supposed to say? Get rid of him. He lives here now. Besides, I know he's your oldest friend and you care about him, so I'm willing to play nice as long as he does." Kendall announced, causing the girl to send him a small smile. "Also, I promise to never lie again."

"Me too." Dani nodded.

"Me too."

Dani jumped as Lucy appeared behind the girl.

"She is really good at that." Kendall muttered.

"And I am so sorry." Lucy apologized. "I don't want Kendall. I was just trying to create drama to help me write some new songs for my album. When Kendall picked you over Jo, I saw you write some of the songs in your life. But since I can't write a good song to save my life."

"Well, he is good for inspiration." Dani admitted. "Like, the next time I have a bad day, I'm going to think back to this moment of him in those pants."

"Maybe I can write a song about that." Lucy chuckled.

"Ooh, I could definitely help." Dani looped her arm with Lucy's. "What rhymes with mom pants?"

"How about so wrong pants?" Lucy said, causing the duo to chuckle.

...

The group of 8 teens followed the sound of music down the hallway, before stepping into apartment 5R that was full of teens dancing to the band on the small stage in the corner of the room.

Ain't no way we're going home
Let's stay on the run forever
Let's go nowhere that we know
Get strange with the stars together
We can do what you wanna do
What you wanna do
Baby, we can do better
Ain't no way we're going home
Yeah, so let's go
Yeah, let's go

Ain't no way we're going home
Yeah, so let's go
Yeah, let's go

As the music ended, the crowd erupted into cheers.

"You guys made it!" The Avery boy exclaimed, making his way over to the group after jumping down from the stage.

"Hope we aren't too late." Dani spoke loudly, walking into the loud room. "Someone took forever on his hair."

"Hey! It's a delicate process!" James exclaimed, causing them to chuckle.

"You guys are just in time." Mac grinned, gesturing toward the room. "Enjoy whatever and just have a good time."

"Dani!" Mads voice filled the blonde's ears as she went racing toward the group, grabbing the girl's arm, dragging her toward the stage. "Come sing with me."

"Okay." Dani chuckled, stepping onto the stage behind the girl.

It didn't even take them 30 seconds to decide on what to sing.

They decided to go with one they wrote together while on tour.

The Jennings girl picked up the electric guitar that was leaning against the stand, placing the strap over her arm.

Dani began playing a riff as Mads stepped up to the mic with the rest of the band waiting for their cue.

Into your head, into your mind
Out of your soul, race through your veins
You can't escape, you can't escape

As the drums kicked in, Dani leaned in towards the microphone as she began to sing.

Into your life, into your dreams
Out of the dark, sunlight again
You can't explain, you can't explain

Can you feel it, can you feel it
Rushin' through your hair
Rushin' through your head
Can you feel it, can you feel it

Don't let nobody tell you, your life is over
Be every color that you are
Into the rush now
You don't have to know how
Know it all before you'll try

More than you land spinning around
Lifting your feet right off the ground
You can't believe this is happening now

Can you feel it, can you feel it
Rushin' through your hair
Rushin' through your head
Can you feel it, can you feel it

Don't let nobody tell you, your life is over
Be every color that you are
Into the rush now
You don't have to know how
Know it all before you'll try

It takes you to another place,
Imagine everything you can.
All the colors start to blend,
The system overloads again.

Don't let nobody tell you, your life is over,
Be every color that you are,
Into the rush now,
You don't have to know how,
Know it all before you'll try.

Don't let nobody tell you,
Don't let nobody tell you,
Don't let nobody tell you your life is over,
Be every color that you are,
Into the rush now,
You don't have to know how,
Know it all before you'll try.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
