big time jobs

Dani thought it was going to be just another day at the beautiful place she called home, the Palm Woods.

Oh, was she wrong.

As soon as she took one step out of her door, the four boys of Big Time Rush came running by her out of their apartment.

"Hi, Dani!" They all screamed, running down the hallway and around the corner.

"Oh boy," she muttered to herself, looking in the direction the boys went until she noticed Katie walk out of apartment 2J holding a homemade trophy.

"Hey, Dani." Katie smiled, waving to the girl as she passed, and Dani decided to join her to see what was going on.

The two girls made their way into the lobby when Katie suddenly stopped at the front desk, waving at Bitters, who was standing behind the desk eating pasta, looking confused at the trophy.

"What-" Dani started, but quickly closed her mouth when Katie held her hand up, signaling her to stop talking.

"You'll see." Katie said, looking down at her watch as she began counting down. "In 5...4...3...2...1."

Soon the sound of screaming came from the pool area, causing Dani's attention to snap in their direction, catching a glimpse of the four idiots pushing and shoving each other as they ran towards the lobby doors.

"Oh no, this can't end well." Dani said, quickly moving behind Katie as the boys came rushing into the lobby, flying over the desk as they all went crashing to the ground or into Bitters. The four heads quickly popped up, staring at Katie. "You idiots!"

"It's Carlos!" Katie exclaimed, pointing at the boy, causing him to cheer as he jumped back over the desk, grabbing the trophy from Katie as the other three stood behind the counter, looking defeated.

"You are all going to pay for this!" Mr. Bitters exclaimed, standing up as he pushed between James and Kendall.

...

"$2000!" Gustavo exclaimed, removing the paper from his face as he looked at the four boys angrily as he stood in the middle of Kelly and Dani.

"And 30 cents." Bitters pointed out, standing beside the couch that held the four boys. "They destroyed The Palm Woods' computerized registration system, two lamps, three vases, and my pants."

"But I won the Palm Woods 500 World Cup!" Carlos started happily, pulling out the big trophy from beside him and placing a kiss on the side of it.

"Here you go," Kelly sighed, ripping out a check and handing it over to Bitters, who happily took the check and quickly left the studio.

"Well, guess that settles it," Kendall said, causing the four boys to quickly stand up from their spots on the couch.

"No, because I'm sick and tired of you dogs breaking stuff!" Gustavo snapped.

The boys started to defend themselves, claiming that they don't break things.

"What about that hole in the dance studio because you idiots decided to push Carlos in the hanging chair directly into the wall?" Dani questioned, as the boys shrunk back every time she mentioned something else. "The smoothie control box? Crashing the golf cart at The Palm Woods? How about my favorite,"

"Okay, so we do put a little wear and tear on things from time to time." Kendall interjected, quickly cutting off the girl before she could say anything else.

"But that's showbiz, right?" James asked, shrugging as the boys all pointed to him.

"Wrong, and it's time you take responsibility for your actions by paying me back my $2000!" Gustavo exclaimed, pointing at the paper in his hand before quickly turning around and walking into the studio as Kelly followed closely behind.

"Don't forget the 30 cents!" Dani added, sending them all a smile before she turned to follow Gustavo.

"Gustavo! Gustavo!"

"Isn't there a cheaper way to learn responsibility?" Logan asked, hopeful. "Like a goldfish?"

"Guys, Griffin's cracking down on us for overspending, and Gustavo's right. This has got to stop." Kelly explained.

"Oh, and until you pay me back, you will not dip a toe into your beloved Palm Woods pool."

"You can not keep us away from the world's greatest pool!" Carlos cried, causing the boys to nod.

"No, but Freight Train can." Gustavo said, causing the giant man to pop up from behind the boys, dressed as a lifeguard with a clipboard in hand, causing the boys to quickly jump.

"You guys are on my 'No Swim' list." Freight Train announced, looking at the boys.

"Freight Train, your outfit looks great! You look like an actual lifeguard." Dani said, high-fiving the giant man.

"Thanks, Dani."

"Gustavo, $2000?" Kendall asked. "That's $500 apiece."

"Ooh, Kendall's good at math." Kelly said in a sarcastic tone, glancing over at Gustavo before looking back at the boys. "Well, I guess you guys are just going to have to get jobs."

The boys all quickly gasped in fear, covering their mouths as James covered his ears.

"In fact, one of you can work off your debt for me right here at Rocque Records." Gustavo said. "Who wants to be my production assistant? Step forward."

Dani noticed three of the four boys, along with Freight Train, stepped back, leaving Carlos standing alone in front of them, causing Dani to shake her head at the group.

"Carlos, it is," Gustavo announced. "Now, the rest of you go get jobs and get me my money!"

That caused the other three to quickly run out of the studio at lightning speed, causing Dani to chuckle to herself as she stepped forward toward Carlos.

"Welcome to the team." Dani said, smiling up at the boy as he smiled back. "Also, this place pays somewhat decently; you'll be back in the pool quickly. So, how about I give you a grand tour of this beautiful place?"

Carlos quickly nodded his head, goofily smiling as he followed the blonde girl out of the studio as they walked around the studio.

....

Dani soon sent the boy on his way as she went into a quiet studio, deciding that she wanted to work on a song.

As she was flipping through her songbook, she stopped flipping when she noticed an unfamiliar folded piece of paper. She gently placed her songbook down as she unfolded the paper, opening it to see a note that read:

Dear Dani,

By the time that you're reading this, I'm probably somewhere far away, maybe even on the other side of the world, maybe Canada or even Tokyo (you know how much Mads wanted to go). I'm so sorry that I didn't tell you about going on a world tour with the band... I just didn't know
how to... Anyways I wanted to say that I'll be back soon, I promise and hopefully we can go back to how we left things before I left. I Love You, Danielle Jennings, See You Soon.

Love Always,
Mac

Dani sat confused, knowing that she had flipped through her book over a hundred times, and not once had she come across the note.

She looked over at her songbook, picking it up to see what page it was on, causing her to let out a sigh.

"Of course." Dani whispered to herself, reading the title over and over again in her head. "Drowning."

Dani went to turn the page when she felt something hit her on the head, causing her to look up, only to find something white dripping from the vent.

"What the?" Dani questioned, confused, noticing it was foam, then she remembered Carlos was working at Rocque Records. "Oh no."

Dani quickly stuck the note back into her songbook, rushing out of the studio only to see Kelly coming out of the studio beside her. Soon the helmet-wearing boy came rushing by with a baseball bat in hand but stopped when he noticed the two.

"Hey, Kelly. Hey, Dani." Carlos greeted, chippy with a smile, before he turned around and sprinted down the hall and around the corner, causing the duo to quickly run after him.

The two soon came face to face with a room filled with foam, causing Kelly to let out a scream as Dani stood there in shock.

"No, no, no! Don't scream! Don't scream!" Carlos exclaimed, emerging from the foam-filled room. "I'm just making coffee."

"Are you sure about that?" Dani asked, sarcastically looking over the boy. "Because it looks like you just went swimming in a sea of foam."

"I will cover the earth with foam," a voice said, coming from the foam-filled room. "Bow to my foamy powers!"

"We have to destroy it!" Carlos cried, turning to Kelly.

"No, Gustavo said you can't break anything else!" Kelly exclaimed, pointing at the boy.

"Kelly is dumb and weak."

"Oh, what did he just say?" Kelly asked sassily, putting her hand on her hip and turning towards the machine.

"You heard me, cupcake."

"Oh, it's on!" The two exclaimed, lifting weapons up in their hands.

"Well, you two have fun with... that. I'm going to go and try to wash this foam out of my hair. Have fun."

...

"$960, $980... $1000?" Gustavo counted, surprised, looking at Kendall and Logan.

"Plus my $500 from my modeling job," James added, handing over the money he earned to Gustavo.

"Plus Carlos' paycheck." Kelly said, ripping a check out of her book and handing it over to Gustavo.

"That's $2000."

"Wait, you get paid 500 bucks a day?" Katie asked, turning to the blonde along with the boys, causing the girl to shrug. "Awesome."

"Oh, don't forget the 30 cents." Dani smiled, pulling out three dimes from her pocket and handing them over to Gustavo.

"I have to say, I'm very impressed." Gustavo admitted, causing Logan and Kendall to fist bump as James patted Katie's shoulder in appreciation. "I hope you guys have learned your lesson."

"Lesson learned!"

"You're free to swim." Freight Train announced, crossing their names off of his 'No Swim' list, causing the boys to cheer as they turned to head down the hall when they came face-to-face with an angry mob of people, causing the four to run behind Gustavo and Kelly.

"Who's paying my bill for Palm Woods towels, soap, and a fine from the city for running an illegal daycare center?"

"Here is the bill for foam clean-up and new pitchforks."

"And this coffee machine was a Sanyoy prototype! It costs $8,000!"

"And who's paying this bill for James' wardrobe and styling?"

"I might have mentioned that Gustavo's paying for everything." Katie admitted.

"Which adds up to a grand total of..." Kelly said, punching numbers into her calculator as Gustavo looked over her shoulder. "$14,089."

Dani watched as Gustavo started shaking, causing the girl to quickly take a few steps back as she stood behind Carlos.

"Which is a small price to pay for such a valuable lesson." Kendall spoke, trying to calm Gustavo down.

Gustavo quickly moved from his spot as he stopped in front of the glass table as the two groups formed into one giant one as they watched the angry man as Dani stood behind Carlos and Logan and beside Kendall.

"You know what? This is great! No, no, no, this is good. I mean, who needs a lesson in responsibility? Let's just break more stuff!" Gustavo exclaimed, quickly snatching the bat out of Carlos' hands.

"I mean, how about this lamp, huh? That'd be fun, right?" Gustavo asked, quickly swinging the bat as it connected with the small black lamp, causing the girl to slightly jump, letting out a small yelp. "Oh, this is fun! How about this vase? Ooh, this vase is too new. Let's hit this vase." Smash. "And while we're at it, why don't we just bust up my whole studio? I mean, it's just money! Right?"

Gustavo started smashing the glass walls of the studio, officially losing his mind just as Griffin and his team popped their heads through the broken glass wall.

"Gustavo, what did I tell you about breaking things?"

"I didn't break anything." Gustavo said, frozen.

"You have a bat... in your hand." Griffin replied, looking directly at the bat in Gustavo's hand, causing him to throw it as the sound of more glass breaking came from the same direction.

"Okay, we might put a little wear and tear on things from time to time," Gustavo said, reciting what Kendall said to him this morning.

"But that's showbiz, right?" Kelly asked, also reciting what James had said this morning.

"No." Griffin replied, turning back to Gustavo. "And it's time you take responsibility for your actions by paying me back $14,089."

...

A car wash at the Palm Woods was Griffin's big idea for Gustavo to get his money back. Gustavo and Kelly were the ones holding the signs, trying to get people to stop at the car wash, while the boys were the ones washing the cars.

"Be sure to buff out the rims." Griffin demanded, tossing his car keys to Kendall. "I want them to shine like a pirate's boot."

"It's not the pool, but it's wet." Kendall said, looking over at the boys.

"Less chit-chat and more cleaning." Dani ordered, looking up from the magazine in her hand as she sat in a beach chair beside Griffin. "The cars aren't going to clean themselves, boys."

Dani soon felt herself getting hit with water as she looked up to see that Logan had sprayed her with the water hose as the four boys smiled at her.

"Oh, it's so on." Dani said, standing up from her seat.
