4.08; rides
"Delivery!"
Emily sighed, setting her sheet music down at the piano walking out into the lobby, seeing a massive box sitting on a cart. "Hi," Emily smiled politely, staring in interest at the box. Taking the clipboard to sign for the package, she noticed it was sent from Minnesota.
As the man walked out with the squeaking cart, Emily pulled out her phone, letting it ring. James' face appeared.
"Hey," He smiled.
"Did you ship something from Minnesota?" She questioned. He shook his head distracted. Her interest perked up as someone passing buy complimented James on his bike... "Are you riding a bike?"
"Oh, no, it's just a motor-" James started to say flipping the camera to show Emily the motorcycle he and the guys stumbled upon.
"You bought a motorcycle?" Emily exclaimed. "I've always wanted to ride on the back of one," she told him.
James stuttered for a bit, looking down at the for sale sign on the other side of the bike. "Yup," he nodded. "I love bikes," he lied.
"How did I not know this?"
He smirked, shaking his head cooly, imagining the epic story they would tell of how James took her on a motorcycle ride up the coast to say those three words.
"What is this?" Kelly asked. Emily turned seeing her pointing at the mysterious package from Minnesota.
"I got to go," Emily said to James. "Save me a ride?"
James winked, "I'll see you later."
Hanging up, Emily shoved the phone away, turning back to Kelly, "Something from Minnesota," she said knowingly. Kelly hummed in thought. She took the invoice from the side of the box, leading her way into Gustavo's office, interrupting his writing time.
"Hey, did you overnight a huge package from Minnesota?" She asked.
His face said it all. It didn't change a bit. Emily sighed as Gustavo sprinted out of his office in worry, knowing one of the guys was up to something.
"No!" He frowned down at the big box.
"Well, according to this, you paid $998 for it," Kelly told him.
"McConaughey!" Gustavo cried, karate-chopping the box open.
The sides of the box fell down, light pieces of packaging paper flying away. A beat up, tired, old red wagon sat in the center.
"An old red wagon? Who did this?" Gustavo whispered.
"Wagonie!" Two voices sang. Emily jumped seeing Logan and Carlos cheering in front of them.
"Did you guys forge Gustavo's signature and use the studio's shipping number for this stuff?" Kelly questioned.
"No," Logan denied, both boys shaking their heads. "Yes."
"Why?" Emily asked.
"Logan's mom said she was going to throw his old wagon out, and I said that was like our greatest memories," Carlos explained, looking cathartic.
"Must be some special memories if this is the first I'm hearing about it..."
"Like one time we broke our arms on broken arm hill!" Logan remembered, smiling to Carlos.
"And that one time we both got mild concussions on mild concussion curve," Carlos said.
"Oh, and don't forget what happened-"
"We get it!" Kelly interrupted.
"And we're going to restore this once proud monster of the mid-west and take it for one more glorious ride," Carlos said, him and Logan wiggling their fingers together.
"Wrong!" Gustavo shouted. "Because you're not in fifth grade anymore. You're in a huge pop band. Now get this red junk out of my studio, warm up your voices, and get in the booth!"
"We wanna fix up Wagonie," Logan whined.
"Out!"
Frowning, the two boys loaded up the wagon with the extra parts they ordered shuffling out into the stairwell, their heads hung low.
Gustavo and Kelly walked back into the office while Emily hung back. Sighing she silently counted down from three. At 0, the boys whistled their way back in, wearing workmen jumpsuits.
"Do you have any idea what you're doing?" She asked, watching them drop random tools in random piles.
Logan and Carlos scoffed, "Em, please," Logan said laughing.
"We have no idea what we're doing," Carlos corrected, him and Logan nodding as if they really showed her.
Emily cautiously glanced around, "So you're gonna pull in all these dangerous tool you don't know how to use?" The boy nodded proudly. Emily nodded to herself, turning to leave, shutting the wooden doors behind her to keep the chaos contained.
Immediately Gustavo and Kelly came out of the booth, looking horrified, pushing past Emily to walk back into the studio, where the guys had quickly made a huge mess.
"Cool noise right?" Logan shouted, playing with a small drill.
"What is this?' Gustavo cried.
Rolling out from under the wagon, Carlos smiled wearing the big goggles, "It's a Wagonie restoring super shop."
"I said no wagons!"
"Gustavo, as Logan and I face the responsibility and maturity of adulthood, we've decided we don't want to."
Emily hummed, "That's fair."
"Tell me the studio didn't pay for all this too," Kelly begged, looking around at the gas tanks and wire and tools.
"It didn't," Carlos shook his head.
"But it did," Logan said.
"Well, if Rocque Records paid for all this, then Gustavo Rocque owns it!" The man shouted. "And I'm taking it away," he said, dragging the red wagon out aggressively as the boys' shoulders slumped over.
"Well, there she goes," Carlos sighed.
"The last piece of our innocent yet dangerous childhood," Logan said.
Emily shook her head, turning to Kelly, "So rehearsal to put off, I assume?"
Kelly nodded, "I'd say it'll be another hour."
Emily smiled to herself, "I'll be back then!" She called back, hurrying out of the studio back to the Palm Woods.

"No way!" Emily cried.
James sat on a motorcycle in the parking lot wearing leather biker pants, a red jacket, and a helmet on his head with the shield up. He turned, secretly panicking.
"Rehearsal got delayed. I was hoping you'd be here," she said, dropping her bag on the sidewalk. "Wanna go for a ride?"
James smiled nervously as Emily grabbed the helmet off the back, slipping it over her head. "About that..."
"I only have 30 minutes, let's go," she said, hoping on the back, wrapping her arms around James' torso. James began revving the engine. Then again, and again, and a few more times. "Did you hear me when I said I was on a time crunch?"
"N-No, I know. We're going," he said. "I just need to- I gotta check the thing–"
"James!" Katie walked over carrying a big box, "Those motorcycle parts you just ordered came. You know, the ones to bore the heads and increase the air fuel mix for max power?"
"Oh, right!" James said, turning off the bike. "Those parts." James hopped off the bike, turning to his girlfriend, "Sorry, Lady Leather, but you know us bikers, always customizing. You're just gonna have to wait on that ride so instead of 3.7 seconds, I can take you from zero to thrill in 1.5"
Emily bit back a smirk, hoping off the bike as her phone buzzed. Carlos sent her a text with lots of exclamation points Gustavo gave in and they were going to fix the wagon.
"I have to go babysit at the studio anyway," She sighed, taking the helmet off. "After work?" She asked.
"After work," James nodded, leaning down to kiss her goodbye.

"Why it's Wagon Lightning!" Gustavo, Logan, and Carlos sang. "Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh."
Emily and Kelly stood in the doorway, jaws open. "You have no idea how any of this works do you?" Kelly asked.
"Got any suggestions?" Gustavo asked.
Two hours later, the wagon was restored with new wheels, new wood, a fresh coat of paint, and some detailing on the sides.
"We did it!" the guys cheered.
"No, we did it," Kelly corrected, wiping grease off her hands as Emily looked into a mirror to see red paint up and down her arms and a smear on her head.
"You idiots sang Grease for two hours," Emily mumbled, scratching the paint off.
"Never mind that," Carlos took off the sunglasses, "because it's time for the ride of our lives."
"Now all we need is a dangerous hill," Logan smirked.
"We're in the heart of L.A.," Gustavo pointed out. "Where are we going to find a hill?"
Emily shrugged, "Just go to the parking garage."
Carlos and Logan gasped, turning to each other, nodded, and took off squealing with their new wagon, shouting for them to follow.
Sitting at the top of the parking garage, Logan hopped in front, his legs hanging out as he held onto the handle to steer. Carlos hopped in behind him, legs also hanging out.
"This still isn't a hill," Kelly reminded them.
"It's an L.A. hill," Logan shrugged. "Now, push," he smiled.
"No, you'll never make that turn!" Gustavo insisted.
"Oh, you mean the parking lot lamp pole pass?" Carlos said, smiling at the sharp turn at the end of the ramp leading down to the next level.
"Besides crashing is the best part," Logan said.
"Then why not run into a wall and call it a day?" Emily asked.
"One last ride," Gustavo said. "Then we are going back into the recording studio!"
"You know, we'd get there a lot faster if you–"
"Give us a push!" The boys shouted.
Kelly and Gustavo sighed, hands on the wagon. "Ready?" Kelly asked.
"Wait," Carlos stopped. "Em, do you want to come?"
Emily's eyes widened in fear, "You want me to do what?"
Logan nodded, smiling at Carlos, "Yeah, yeah. We want to share our best memory with you."
The guys looked up at her like two puppies and she couldn't say no. Emily sighed, looking defeated at Kelly and Gustavo who mouthed for her to run instead. The girl hopped in between them, her legs hanging over the side.
Logan and Carlos clapped, jumping in the wagon. "Now we're ready!" Carlos said.
"Three, two one, blast off!" Logan cried.
The wagon got faster, zooming down the slope, Carlos and Logan cheering as Emily laughed to herself feeling the rush. Approaching the turn, Emily and Carlos shouted for Logan to turn and not crash.
They coasted around the lamp smoothly. "We didn't crash!" Logan cheered. The three cheered as they headed down their next slope before out from the darkened garage emerged a silver car.
Emily gasped, clenching her eyes shut as impact hit them. Emily rolled at their feet against the car on her stomach, feeling a pounding in her head.
The car doors opened, Jo and Kendall running out to see they hit their friends.
"Hey, it's Wagonie!" Kendall smiled at the demolished wagon, Logan and Carlos bursting into cheers.
Emily sat up, feeling lightheaded. Logan and Carlos were still laughing together, each holding an arm. Jo kneeled down, "Are you okay?"
Emily nodded, feeling blood on her lip and a few strings from wood tearing at her skin. "I think these idiots cushioned the blow."
"Is that my car?" Gustavo gasped, him and Kelly running down.
Kendall laughed, "No," he denied. "Yes."
"I hate you dogs!"
Gustavo took off chasing a squealing Kendall as Jo smiled at the car.
"Not a scratch!"

The five teens arrived back at the crib, Logan and Carlos each in a sling. The boys and Emily got bandaged up. Emily had bandaids over her arms, and her split lip covered in a gel.
Entering Mama Knight gasped at the three, "What happened?"
Carlos and Logan cheered, holding up their souvenir pieces of the wagon as they went to collapse on the couch.
From the counter, James looked over, coated in dry wall and dust. His eyes widened seeing Emily in bad shape as well. "What did you guys do?" He asked, turning to Logan and Carlos.
"What did you do?" She asked, turning the question on her boyfriend as she noticed the ice pack on his knee and dust over his face. Then she noticed the massive hole in the wall.
"He lied about knowing how to ride a motorcycle and crashed," Katie answered, smirking as she dried dishes.
Emily sighed, nodding, "Yeah, I figured. The guys took me on a ride in Wagonie today."
"Wagonie?" James gasped, turning to his friends.
Kendall winced, "Yeah, sorry we hit you and crushed Wagonie."
"Don't be sorry," Carlos said. "It was the greatest crash of our lives."
Logan stared at the wheel, "Wagonie would've wanted to go out that way."
Jo laughed to herself as the guys' neighbor gaped at the hole in the wall, covered with duct tape, "And James also had an interesting ride."
"What did you end up doing with that motorcycle?" Carlos asked.
James nodded fearfully at Mama Knight who smiled.
"I made him sell it."
"Why would you buy a motorcycle if you can't ride it?" Emily asked him before gasping and narrowing her eyes. "Why would you take me on a motorcycle ride if you can't ride it?" She demanded.
"You were so excited," He said.
"I'd be even more excited if you didn't do stupid things for me," Emily told him. The girl yawned, feeling her cut lip tug, "I'm going to shower and go to bed. Thank you two for an eventful day," She nodded to Carlos and Logan. She gave James hand a squeeze, giving him an assured nod he could come up later to hang out. Jo said goodbye to Kendall, leaving with Emily.
As the door shut and the girls left the room, all eyes panned to James.
"What?"
"You know," Kendall smirked.
"Know what?"
"You know," the three sang together.
"I don't!"
Mama Knight caught the hint, motioning for Katie to follow her out of the room so the guys could talk, even though they both knew what was happening and planned to listen in.
"You bought a motorcycle and tried to learn how to ride it in a day because Emily was excited?" Logan rhetorically asked. James nodded, shaking his head in confusion.
"You also bought her a snake because she said she liked one in a movie," Carlos reminded him.
"I buy stupid things, is that what you want to hear?" James cried.
"You haven't told her have you?" Kendall asked, smiling.
"Told her what?" James snapped, feeling frustrated his friends were being so vague.
"That you're in love with her."
James' heart stopped, looking at his three best friends who all grinned knowingly at him. "I want to do something big," he told them. "Something so big it completely takes her by surprise and she does that thing where she just stares at you speechless, then blushes, then starts laughing while she calls you an idiot..." He looked up at his friends, "I thought the snake was the right choice but then she hit me and ran away. Then today I was going to take her up the coast on the bike, watch the sunset and tell her, but I crashed into the wall. I know I've said I'm in love before with other girls, but I'm really in love this time."
"Yeah?" Logan said, smirking at James, happy for him.
"I don't want to live without her."
"That was beautiful," Carlos gasped, tearing up, Kendall nudging him.
"Why can't you just tell her? You know, like a normal person?" Logan asked.
"I tell Emily stuff all the time. You know she doesn't like getting compliments. Anytime I tell her how amazing she is she just zones out and changes the subject. I need to do something big so she knows I'm serious. Plus if it's big and in front of a crowd maybe she won't reject me so quickly."
Kendall rolled his eyes, "James, she is so in love with you," he assured him. "But if you want to go big, we'll go big."
"So we're going big?" Carlos confirmed, looking at the guys who all smiled, looking to James for confirmation.
"Big time."
