4.06; tour bus
Just a short tour around the country for the new album was finally winding down. They were driving from Phoenix. The past three days the guys were somehow late to the show, forcing the opening act, Victoria Justice, to shall for an obscene amount of time.
Normally Emily would fly with Kelly and Gustavo and stay in a hotel the night before while the guys were traveling via tour bus, however, after they stopped to play hockey, found a mummy, and got arrested, Gustavo decided it was best Emily stay on one of the buses.
There were two buses: the Blue Bus and the Brown Bus. It wasn't a rule, but Kendall and Carlos had been on the brown bus the past few days and James and Logan on blue. The guys had been secretly drawing straws to decide who rides with Logan. Logan was a bit uptight on tour. The Blue Bus was spotless, always full of healthy snacks, outfits already set out, guest soaps, and everything first class on a plane would offer. It set the other guys off a bit.
Emily planned to stay on the blue bus that night anyway, knowing she was guaranteed to be treated like a VIP. Even better, not for him, but James drew the short straw again and would be bunking with Logan.
They were nearing San Diego and James was getting more and more annoyed by the minute. Emily sat with him on a soft couch, curled up, leaning her head on his shoulder as he furiously stabbed the keyboard on his laptop.
The screen flashed, a picture of Kendall appeared, wide eyed and starring off screen, "What? I'm having a staring contest with Carlos while waiting for Jo."
"We can't take it anymore. We want to switch at the next stop," James whispered harshly.
"I'm fine where I am," Emily shook her head, pulling the soft wool blanket only guests were allowed to use Logan set out for her.
"Each bus has two bunks, so one of us has to ride with Tour-Bus Logan, and you drew the short straw," Kendall said.
"James, did you use the guest soap?" Logan shouted from the bathroom. "You know that's for Emily!"
"Pretend you're napping and he'll leave you alone."
Emily held back an amused smiled as Logan peeked out of the bathroom, stalking over to them. he leaned across Emily to put his face next to James', looking at the computer, "Are you using up all of our minutes?"
"Q-Quiet! Napping," James stuttered, beginning to snore as he fell to his side.
Logan took the laptop from James, turning it off. He turned to Emily, a bright smile, "Let me know if you need anything," he said like he was her butler or something. Emily nodded, pursing her lips.
As Logan left, James' eyes snapped opened, "I thought you were napping," Emily said sarcastically.
James sighed, turning onto his back, his legs propped up on the couch, "It's funny. Now I want a nap," he told her. "We're still a few hours from San Diego," he pointedly tells her. "Are you tired?"
She shrugged, "I don't know, I slept kinda nice last night–" Emily started to say, seeing James frowning at her. "Oh, you want me to be tired."
He nodded, smiling, holding his arms open. Emily playfully rolled her eyes, pushing her legs out from under her to stretch down the couch, James letting his fall too. She laid down beside him, letting her head fall onto his chest, curling into his side as his arm draped over her.
Once Emily was passed out, James was still getting there. He spent a little extra time awake taking pictures of them on the couch together while his girlfriend drifted off. Logan slowly appeared in front of them, kneeling on the ground.
"James," he whispered. "Are you real napping or pretend napping?"
"Real napping," The boy grumbled in response.
"Did you eat this cracker and then get crumbs everywhere?"
"I was hungry," James answered, pointing down to Emily who was still awake, "Now, shh."
Logan nodded understandingly, "Good. I'm glad you chose one of the healthy tour bus snacks I prepared." Logan returned seconds later, a loud whirling sound. James opened his eyes to see Logan using the narrow end of the vacuum to clean the cracker from the couch.
The vacuum closed in, forcefully pulling in every stray piece from the couch, including pieces of blonde hair spread out. Emily woke with a jolt, feeling an intense tug on her hair. She let out a yelp, falling off the couch as the vacuum tugged her hair with it.
"Logan!" James shouted, chasing after him. Logan jumped, running into the bathroom, locking the door.
"I'm just trying to make this a pleasant ride!"
"Hey!" Emily snapped from the floor, still holding her head. "Can you turn this this off?"
James sighed, realizing she was still trapped in the vacuum. Unplugging it from the wall, the sound cut out and the piercing pain in her head faded as she was finally able to pull her hair from the tube.
A sigh came from her lips as she pushed off the floor and collapsed onto the couch, "Why does my hair always get pulled?" She wondered sadly, reflecting over all the times a thing or person had pulled on her hair.
James nodded, jaw clenched, "Don't worry, I'll kill him," he assured her, going back towards the bathroom where Logan was hiding.
"James!" Emily rolled her eyes, pointing for him to sit on the couch and leave Logan alone. He didn't do it on purpose, and he'd been such a gracious host to her, she'd let it slide.
James gaped, stuttering out protests, pointing to the bathroom as he made way back to the couch. He fell beside her, wrapping an arm over the back of the couch, "Do you want to play a game?"
"The race car one?" She asked hopefully. James nodded, crashing in the spinning chair on the other side in front of a small table with his laptop. Emily propped herself up on the counter behind him.
"Sit with me!" James whined.
"Logan's here," she reminded him. James and her had hugged, kissed, sat together around their friends before, but it was always casual and on the down-low. She'd never sit in his lap in front of them out of fear for making anyone uncomfortable.
"So what?"
"I don't want to bother him."
James dropped the controller on his keyboard, holding his hands up, annoyed, "He's been bothering me!" He whispered.
Emily rolled her eyes, starting the game, racing ahead not caring if he wasn't ready as she sped into first place.
By their 3 game, Logan finally reappeared, carrying a sleep mask. He gave a polite smile, skipping over to the couch. He fell back, sitting upright, mask covering his eyes. He pulled a fuzzy blanket over his lap and sighed in content.
"You know half hour before show time I like tour-bus quiet time so game off, please, thank you," Logan said, eyes still covered. Emily sighed sadly, putting her controller down.
James grew a sarcastic smile, "Well, we tried to nap and we all remember how sucky that turned out, huh?" Emily shoved his shoulder, giving him a look to knock it off.
Peeling the sleep mask up, Logan smiled, "But I know you like noise, so I added a layer of comfort for both of us," he hummed, pressing a button on a tiny remote. A static sound erupted from behind Emily. She turned to see a white box producing the sound, labeled with different settings. She picked it up, holding it up for James to see, who was not as amused as his girlfriend. "Oh, and this is called Ocean Breeze," Logan beamed, changing the sound.
He smiled, proud of himself, putting the mask back over his eyes. James gave an irritated smile, smacking the machine out of Emily's hands onto the couch. It hit Logan's legs, turning off. He peeled back the mask to see what he had done.
"Oh, so now you're unappreciative and not nice," Logan said, giving him a confused shrug.
James stood up, "No, what's not nice is I drew the short straw six days in a row and have to share this bus with you."
"James," Emily muttered, trying to push him back into the chair as she hopped off the counter.
Logan nodded, standing up, "Right, you guys draw straws to see who's lucky enough to ride with me, to enjoy my company and my tasty snacks," he beamed, picking up an apple.
"No, it's the loser who rides with you! Not the winner!" James exclaimed.
"James!" Emily snapped.
"We hate riding with you!"
Logan's face fell, he dropped the apple, "I think I'd like to be alone now," he mumbled, hurt, pulling the mask done over his eyes again.
Emily smacked James' arm, shaking her head in disappointment. Suddenly, the bus lurched, halting to a stop, the three stumbling inside. Emily leaned over, peeking out of the window to see all the cars stopped in a traffic jam.
"Fine. We're stuck in traffic so you can have the blue bus all to yourself," James shouted, storming out of the bus.
"Really?" Emily sighed, watching him leave.
"Well, I'm not done talking to you!" Logan cried, stumbling after him.
"Take the mask off!" Emily snapped at Logan, seeing him blindly walking out of the bus. She chased after the guys, concerned for Logan's safety and sanity as he shouted after James.
"James!" Logan shouted, stumbling down the stairs off the bus. Emily gripped his arm, steadying him, yelling for him to take off the mask. He held his hands out, feeling for road blocks as he wandered into traffic. Emily groaned, pulling at the strap on his head to give him sight. "Stop it!" Logan said, smacking her hand off.
"Are you kidding me?" She grumbled, shoving him into the door of the brown bus James had gone into, "You can't see!" Inside the bus, Emily shoved Logan down the hallway, crashing him into James. "Take it off!" She shouted, ripping the mask off his face, throwing it off. Logan stumbled, pushing James out of the way to confront Kendall and Carlos, who were taken back by the sudden aggression in their bus.
"Do you guys draw straws because you hate riding with me?" Logan demanded.
Carlos winced as Kendall went blank, "Maybe," he answered.
"Hater!"
"Oh, I'm a hater!" Kendall snapped back, pointing to his laptop.
"What's his deal?" Emily mumbled looking at Carlos, who pushed back in his chair, bringing his camera with him. Carlos was in charge of getting footage on tour, specifically on the bus and behind the scenes so Emily could edit and put it on their social media.
"While we're all here," Carlos said in a calmly, nice voice, "why don't we make a little tour bus video to show how much fun we have on the tour bus?" He held up the camera, the red light blinking.
"Do you have any idea how these tour bus rides would be without me?" Logan asked.
"Um, fun!" James answered, giving the camera a thumbs up.
"Cheerier... a little cheerier," Carlos said, standing up.
"I'm cheerier because I'm on the brown bus with brown bus rules."
Logan rolled his eyes, "Oh, very funny. Did you even notice there's a massive traffic jam outside or do you need Bad-Busmate-Logan to point out we're going to be late to the show?"
"How would you know there's a traffic jam? You walked around with that stupid mask over your eyes the whole way here!" Emily yelled at Logan.
"Wait!" Carlos said, breaking up the fight. "Did you just say "brown bus rules" and "traffic jam?'"
Emily's eyes widened, knowing what he meant. There a chorus of car horns went off. "Honk bonk!" The guys called, throwing punches at each other. Emily jumped over by Carlos and his camera, out of the mess.
"Cheerier! I said cheerier!" Carlos shouted as the three punched each other.
When the honking died down, Emily and Logan gathered ice packs for the guys who participated in Honk Bonk. She jumped into the corner of the couch with the pillows, throwing an ice pack to Kendall who sat with his laptop again.
"These are for your Honk Bonk bruises," Logan said. A car honked and Logan punched James' arm.
"Ow!" The boy cried. "You didn't say "honk bonk!'" He snapped, punching Logan back.
"Ow!" Logan groaned. "Although I am clearly needed here, I realized I am not wanted," he said, gesturing to the mess. "So I just wanted to say goodbye... forever!" He yelled, storming out of the bus.
"Logan!" Emily called, hearing the door shut. "Oh, he's gone," she shrugged.
"I'm just gonna turn this off for a while," Carlos sighed, putting his camera away.
"Okay, so somebody's gotta go smooth things out with Logan," Kendall said, holding up his hand, three straws poking out. Emily turned to James.
"No! I'm not going to draw straws!" He said.
"Brown Bus rules, you must obey," Carlos told him, sitting by Kendall.
"Fine, next tour, I'm getting my own bus," James told them. Emily stiffed an amused laugh watching him carefully pick a straw. He frowned in shock, seeing a less than an inch straw come out. Kendall winced for him, revealing the much longer straws still in his hand. "I hate all of you," James said, sitting back sighing. Emily nudged him as Kendall and Carlos gave him pointed glances. "I'm thinking about what I'm going to say!"

James finally left to talk to Logan.
"So what's your deal?" Emily asked Kendall.
"He found some haters online," Carlos answered.
"So what?"
Kendall gasped, "So what?" He snapped. "Does this not bother you guys?"
Carlos shrugged, "You just have to ignore them."
"First class has arrived!"
Emily looked over her shoulder to see Logan carrying a tray of sandwiches. "Now, who would like a crustless sandwich?" After flinging one into Carlos' hand, he turned to Kendall, "What's up, hater?"
Emily bit back a laugh, watching Kendall get worked up, "I do not hate! Which is why I'm simply posting a statement on IHateBTR.com simply suggesting that their opinion is incorrect."
Carlos took his feet down from their elevated position, "No, you're just fueling the hater fire by giving them what they want."
Kendall went silent for a second before turning back to the computer, "Dear Sir or Madam," Emily sighed at Logan who sat besides her eating a sandwich, "I respectfully disagree with you that Jo and Kendall are an eyebrow couple–"
Logan let out a laugh, making Emily laugh as Kendall glared at him. "–And that Big Time Rush bits donkeys. I, for one, find them quite charming."
"You're kidding, right?" Emily said, exchanging looks of disbelief to Carlos and Logan.
Kendall ignored his friends, "Send," he said smugly. His computer chimed, "Oh that was fast." Clicking on the response, "Dear Dork, you totally bite, and your friends bite–" Emily choked on the crustless sandwich Logan handed her, forcing the laughter down "–and if you have a pet, like a dog or something like that, that bites too. BigTimeBites372." Kendall frantically looked back and forth between Carlos and Emily and Logan gasping, "I'm gonna find this person!"
"You're yelling at me. See what haters do?" Carlos said.
"You can't hate haters 'cause that makes you a hater," Logan told him.
"Okay, Brown Bus is making me very confused today!" Kendall shouted, slamming the laptop shut.
"Dear dork, you totally bite," Emily repeated, laughing to herself.
Kendall snapped his head to her, "If someone said that to you, you wouldn't be laughing."
She shrugged, "People have said worse and I get over it," obviously.
"Like what?" Carlos asked, intrigued.
"I'm in an exclusive relationship with someone in Big Time Rush," she reminded them. "You don't think some delusional fans hate me because James is off the market?"
"People actually hate you for that?" Logan asked, surprised.
She nodded, "Yeah, I'm sure Camille and Jo have gotten comments about it too, maybe not as much because they have fans of their own, but I'll see over a hundred messages and comments a day telling me how awful I am, and how I don't deserve James, or how I'm using him for fame. A real popular one is assuming I'm dating all of you. You just have to ignore it," she told Kendall.
"That doesn't bother you?" Kendall questioned, confused as to how she wasn't bothered by the hate she receives daily.
She shrugged, "Yeah, it bothers me. But I can't do anything about it." Kendall, bewildered, looked to Carlos and Logan who just nodded, fully aware of the haters. She shook her head, looking over to Carlos, "Do you have anything good yet?"
Carlos sighed, "Just bits and pieces. It's not enough for a video yet." Logan stood up, taking the sandwiches over to Carlos as the two began clicking through videos he shot.
Stomping echoed, Emily turned back again to see James. "Okay, I might miss first class," he admitted, Logan smugly smiling. "But you have to admit, you're not easy to tour bus with either!"
Logan nodded, "Fine, I might admit that, if you apologize."
"Do I get a sandwich?"
"You might."
"Then I apologize." James beamed in excitement as Logan placed a sandwich in his hand. "And I propose a new blue bus rule that states we all appreciate wardrobe-organizing, crust cutting, and lozenge providing Logan more."
"Well, thank you, James," Logan smiled.
"Let us all Honk Bonk on it!" Carlos suggested.
They waited a few seconds in silence until a car honked, "Honk Bonk!" They cried, punching each other before groaning in pain.
"Seriously!" Kendall exclaimed, "How do these haters not bother you guys?"
"Because of EmilyJ3!" Carlos told him.
Kendall's eyes flashed to Emily, "It's not me," she shook her head. "Although I do live in 3J, maybe it is," she realized.
"Then who's EmilyJ3?" Kendall asked.
"I have no idea," Carlos shrugged. "But she did once post that she had a bad date and my singing made it better."
"And I think of SarahDiamond," James said, giving an assured nod to his girlfriend, "Although we are not married, she says I'm the only person that makes her smile 24/7 and that's all I need to hear."
Kendall looked to Logan, "What about you? Do you have an EmilyJ3?"
Logan nodded, smiling, "Aka LoveThatLogan12."
"I have a whole fan page," Emily told them. "Lots of people think I'm better than all of you, and are incredibly supportive of our relationship."
Logan grabbed the laptop, "Instead of listening to all these haters, why don't you listen to KendallMyForeverILoveHimForever who says she's crazy for you," Logan said, pointing out the comment.
"Well, I guess I'm crazy for her," Kendall blushed, smiling.
"And the only way to beat haters is to ignore them," James reminded him.
Carlos gasped, "Ooh!" He picked up the camera, "And shoot a fun tour bus video that shows our fans that we're crazy for them."
Kendall sighed, grabbing his guitar, "Well, we are still stuck in traffic," he smirked. The laptop beeped.
"Hey!" Jo said. Emily gasped, leaning over to get in the frame. "Sorry it took me so long to reconnect."
"Can I touch you back? We gotta shoot a video for this girl who's crazy for me?"
"Oh, okay. Wait, what?"
"Jo, I'm supervising. It's okay!" Emily assured her friend, blowing a kiss to the camera.

Carlos had the gang go back to the other bus to get dressed in different outfits, playing around. Emily got shots of the guys going through the clothes, juggling, playing with ukuleles, and messing around.
Then they had an idea to go outside in the traffic jam. Emily set the camera on top of a car as the guys sang and danced through the cars. People began rolling down their windows, dancing along.
Carlos got shots of the guys individually. They even convinced Emily to make a brief appearance with James for all the haters. The video in the final cut shows James and Emily laughing together as his arms around wrapped around her shoulders from behind.
There were some upside down shots, and the video faded out with Kendall covering the camera with a shirt.
"What do you know? You can direct," Kendall said to Carlos.
"Why, thank you," Carlos smiled.
"But you know, some people are going to hate it," Jo said.
"And I don't care," Kendall said, blowing a kiss at the camera.
Emily frowned, "That's our thing," she said, glaring at Kendall, offended he would steal her bit with Jo.
"Well, this story is wrapping up quite nicely," Logan hummed. Then the bus lurched forward, wheels squeaking. Carlos looked out, seeing they were moving, leaving the stand still traffic and off to the show.
"We're off to San Diego!"
