2.21; rocker

Emily would be lying if she said she hadn't been slightly lonely since Jo left.

Camille was a great friend, but took her acting very seriously. Sometimes it was hard to talk to her, and sometimes she couldn't find her. Physically or mentally. She really gets into character.

Especially with Kendall being single again, and James somewhat, the guys had been spending a bunch more time together doing "guy" things. It's not that Emily couldn't join, she didn't want to. It felt intrusive.

She was looking for a friend. Doing so, she spent a lot of her free time in the lobby or by the pool considering that's where she met the guys and Jo. Emily would sit there, making small talk with people passing by and "write" songs when in reality she kept writing lyrics to songs already recorded so she wouldn't think so hard.

The girl put her sunglasses on her head, turning to lock her door as she exited 3J when a body collided into her. Emily flinched, turning to see someone new.

"I'm sorry," she said. "I didn't see you."

Emily smiled back, "No, it's fine, I came out of no where."

The girl had long, straight black hair with red streaks. She wore dark clothings with tears and silver pieces stuck on. She could've been the poster girl for the rock genre.

"I'm Emily," she smiled, holding her hand out.

"Lucy," she replied. "I just moved in down the hall."

New friend?

Emily turned, walking down the hallway, Lucy with her, "Oh, yeah? What brings you to Hollywood?"

"Rock," she stated. "I was going down to the pool to work on some music, would you want to join me?"

Stepping into the elevator, "I was heading there now," Emily told her. "I should be working on music, but it's so much easy to write down what's already been written."

Lucy laughed, "Oh, tell me about it," she groaned. "Are you a musician, too?"

Stepping out of the elevator, Emily turned towards the pool, "I'm a production assistant at Rocque Records."

"So, you must know Big Time Rush?"

Emily stiffed a laugh, walking out to the pool, seeing two open chairs by Kendall. She nodded, pointing ahead, "There's one of them now."

Emily sat down by Kendall, Lucy taking the chair on her other side, "Kendall, have you met Lucy? She just moved in," Emily asked.

Kendall looked up, seeing the rocker, went wide eyed and silently turned like the girl hadn't just asked him a question.

"Earth to Kendall?" Emily mocked, waving a hand in front of his face.

"What's the matter?" Lucy asked. "Can't talk to me?" Kendall gave a tight smile, looking to the new girl, shaking his head. "Why not?"

Kendall pointed off. Furrowed eyes, Emily followed his point, her face going slack as she rolled her eyes, "Oh, god," she grumbled as James and Carlos skipped over, smiling at Lucy.

"Hello there," James said, him and Carlos bowing. "It's Lucy, isn't it? Welcome to the Palm Woods."

Lucy turned slightly to Emily with a puzzled look as Emily shook her head helplessly.

"We are two eligible bachelors, ready and willing to be eligible," Carlos swayed.

"And know that you can- and are encouraged to- choose one of us as your new boyfriend," James charmed.

Emily choked out a laugh, "Oh my god, I'm getting flashbacks."

"To what?" Carlos questioned, still looking at Lucy.

"When you idiots first moved in and collectively hit on me."

Lucy smirked, standing from the chair, "Let me save you some time. Eeny meeny miny-" she counted, the boys with excited grins. "-No."

"Oh, this is just like when we moved in," Kendall chuckled in delight, nodding to Emily who silently laughed with the boy.

"Is that a no to me or to him?" Carlos inquired.

James spoke, "Ahem, perhaps you don't know who we are."

"You're Big Time Rush," Lucy stated. "You're on Rocque Records, that's your production assistant," she nodded down to Emily who waved, "you have one album out, and your music is... cute."

"She said we're cute!" Carlos gushed to James as Kendall and Emily shared a displeasing glance. Kendall immediately jumped in front of the girl, confrontationally.

"No," he said, taking off his sunglasses, "she said our music's cute."

"It is cute," Lucy smiled. "It's catchy and it's danceable, it just doesn't rock."

"We rock."

James scoffed, glaring at Kendall while Emily stood by Kendall, ready to defuse the situation so they wouldn't scare off her new friend, "No talky to girl, 'member?"

Kendall shrugged his friend off, "We're actually worked on an album right now which totally rocks. We rock!"

Lucy smugly smiled, "Tell you what. You go to your studio, bring me back some of your new tracks, and we'll see if they rock. Which they won't." Kendall gaped his mouth open to speak, "Eh, 'member? No talky to girl."

Kendall stalked off frustrated, "Emily!" He shouted, waving his arm for her to follow.

Emily turned to her new friend, shrugging, "I've been summoned. But I will see you later, yeah?"

Lucy nodded, as Emily left and she turned to the two boys still gawking at her.

Emily walked into the lobby when a rough force shoved her forward. She stumbled, turning to see James and Carlos who had just barreled into her.

"What are you idiots doing?" She snapped.

"Exactly," Carlos cried, "She was about to invite us in!"

"As friends," James scoffed. "And we want to stay out of the friend zone."

"Right," Carlos replied. "What's the friend zone?"

"Em!" Kendall shouted, impatiently waiting at the front doors. She held up a finger, interested in the exchange in front of her.

"The friend zone is a dark and cold place," James shuddered, "filled with ex-boyfriend talks, rides to the airport, and helping her move."

Carlos gasped as Emily scoffed bemusedly.

"I don't like the friend zone!" Carlos cried.

"Carlos, you're all in my friend zone," she reminded him. Emily didn't believe in the friend zone. She felt the whole thing was an excuse guy's made up to not be friends and use to exclusively look for relationships. I.E. James Diamond.

James smirked at the girl, knowingly, "Am I, though?"

"You are," she told him, a sarcastic smile, walking off towards Kendall.

"What took you so long?" Kendall stressed.

She shrugged, slightly irritated now, perfect to match Kendall's mood. "James taught Carlos about the friend zone." Kendall nodded off. "You don't believe in the friend zone, right?"'

"Nope," he smirked, "Look at me and Jo."

"Logan and Camille," Emily chimed in.

"You and-"

Emily froze, "Me and who?"

Kendall stuttered lightly, "I thought you'd have an example."

"Oh. Well, I don't."

***

Emily grudgingly followed Kendall into the booth as he stormed in looking for Gustavo.

"Hey," He called. "There's this new girl at the Palm Wood's who said that Big Time Rush does not rock, and I say we do rock, so I need the new tracks to prove it," he snapped, still fuming.

"First of all," Gustavo said, "my name is Gustavo Rocque, not Gustavo does not Rocque."

Emily shook her, "It's not even spelled the same."

"And according to every music magazine, BTR is a pop dance group, so in a way she's right," Kelly pointed out to the two guys.

"Well, they're wrong too!" Kendall and Gustavo shouted.

"And I will prove it by playing you a sampling of my new rockin' track, Pair of Eyes," Gustavo said.

"I see you walking then I see you pass me by with your pair of eyes, your pair of eyes," the track played. Gustavo danced along as Kelly, Kendall, and Emily exchanged unsure looks.

"That doesn't rock!" Kendall exclaimed.

"Not even close," Kelly said.

"It's kinda creepy," Emily hummed in disgust.

Gustavo stood up, "We totally rock, okay?" He snapped.

Emily scoffed, "Not with that song."

"Okay, Miss "Rock Expert," you make it rock," Gustavo retorted.

"Wait," Kendall stated. "We can make it rock," he thought.

***

Kendall forced Emily into all black, leather clothing, and for her to pull her hair all the way up, flowing over her head.

Him and Gustavo also dressed stereotypically "rock" and set up all the studio's amps in the recording room.

Kendall had Emily with a guitar in front of a mic, with thick black eye-liner.

"Okay," Gustavo hummed, "Operation 'turn Pair of Eyes into a rockin' song is underway!"

"We record it," Kendall said, pointing to Kelly who cringed in the booth, knowing how bad of an idea this was, "and then we show Rocker Girl- and the world- that Big Time Rush rocks."

"Okay, guys, I think you're overreacting," Kelly said over the mic.

Emily raised her hand, holding the pick, "And I don't play guitar," she reminded them.

"Guess what? You don't need to," Kendall smirked.

"Cause all you got do is turn it up!" Gustavo yelled.

The drummer in the back turned all the amps on high, a loud buzzing ringing in the room.

"One, two, three!" Gustavo called, him and Kendall raising their hands to strike a chord. Emily scrunched her head into her shoulders as she loosely held her arm up. "Rock!"

The room vibrated, amps exploding, smoke coming out of the walls. The drummer disappeared, the guitars vanished, and Emily sat startled on the floor in a daze, paralyzed.

"Too much rock!" Kelly shouted from the booth, holding her ears.

"Fine!" Kendall snapped, his hair blown upwards. His walked out, picking up Emily, grabbing a guitar out of the wall it punctured, a small amp, and dragged Emily out who hadn't blinked. "I'll prove we rock the old fashioned way!"

***

The walk over woke the girl up.

Her ears were still ringing but she could move again.

Kendall flattened his hair out, aggressively banging on Lucy's door.

3B opened and Lucy smiled at the two, "Hey."

"Hey," Emily grinned, shouting a bit.

"Did you come here to not talk to me some more?"

"I came here to show you that we rock!" Kendall said, playing a short chord progression.

Lucy nodded, "Nice chord progression and very cute amp."

"Cute? That rocked!"

"Try E B C G," she suggested. Lucy shoved her wall of boxes out of the way to reveal three massive amps, pulling in her own electric. She played the chords, sounding much more distorted and tough than Kendall's. She plucked a few notes, letting the guitar vibrate off the final sound, smirking at Kendall's gaping face.

Emily gave an impressed nod, clapping away.

"That rocked," she said, shutting her door.

Emily turned to Kendall who hadn't moved. He was frozen in place. She looked up to see Katie walking down the hall. The girl nodded confused to her brother as she stopped in front of him.

"Aw, you look sad," she said, pushing his mouth into a smile, "That's better."

Emily gave the girl a high five as she continued on her way.

***

It took another half hour to unfreeze Kendall. And by then Emily had called it a day.

She met up with Kendall the following morning at the studio to see he was still agitated.

"What if she's right? What if they're all right?" He rambled, holding a guitar. "No, no, they can't all be right," he laughed. "Right?"

"You've lost it," Emily commented.

"BTR rocks," Gustavo assured him. "And I have the proof. Last night I changed Pair of Eyes into a far more rockin' song," he bragged. "Check it!"

The song played. The exact same song from the say before. Emily deadpanned at her dancing boss as the only change was, "with you rockin' eyes, your rockin' eyes."

"You just changed "pair" to "rockin,'" Kelly pointed out.

"I know."

"And it's still creepy," Emily hummed.

"And it still doesn't rock!" Kendall snapped.

"I know!" Gustavo cried.

Kendall gasped, "What if we tried E B C G?" Gustavo gaped as Kendall played the chords Lucy told him about.

"Get the band here, and get them in the studio," he told Kendall and Emily who shrugged in confusion. "Because BTR is gonna rock!"

"Carlos and James are on a love quest out of the friend zone and as far as I know, Logan is MIA," Emily said.

Kendall nodded, "There's no time," he told Gustavo.

"This isn't life or death."

The two snapped to her, "Yes it is!"

***

Emily regretfully mixed the song for them, even though Kendall's new idea did not have any affect on the creepy lyrics in the song.

Gustavo and Kelly marched with Kendall and a bored Emily back to Lucy's apartment.

She opened the door, smiling at Emily as she held the lamp she was unpacking. Seeing Gustavo and Kelly, she smiled at Kendall, "Aw, did you bring your mommy and daddy here to tell me you rock?" She mocked.

Emily coughed back a laugh, Gustavo glaring at her. "Why are you laughing?"

"It was funny," she shrugged.

"No," Kendall scoffed. "We brought our totally rockin' new song that rocks to tell you we rock," he smirked.

"Yeah!" Gustavo said. "The song which is called Pair of Eyes," he told her, pointing at Emily to press play.

"Cute title," Lucy hummed.

"Creepy," Emily corrected.

"Cute?" Kelly repeated. "What do you mean cute?"

"See, that's what I'm talking about," Kendall exclaimed.

"It's just not a rockin' title," she shrugged.

"Then where's all your CD's with your rockin' titles, Miss Rock Expert?" Kendall shot back.

Emily beamed, pointing to herself, while a frustrated Kendall shook her away with his hand.

Lucy held out a CD reading demos on the front.

"Teenage Anarchy?" Gustavo read.

"Eat My Dog?" Kelly grimaced.

"Cut it off and-" Kendall gasped.

Emily perked up, looking over his shoulder "And what?"

"It shocks a lot of people," Lucy warned her, leaving her apartment. "If you'll excuse me, I have a date with your friends by the pool."

Emily, forgetting about the shocking song title, turning after her new friend, "You agreed to a date?" She incredulously asked.

Lucy walked backwards, shrugging, "I'm gonna get them to bring me light bulbs and extension cords."

Emily smiled, snapping her fingers, "I knew I liked you."

A sigh from behind the girl turned her around. Katie was back. She held up a finger to her lips as she took a wad of cash out of paralyzed Gustavo's pocket. Taking a few $20's, Emily held out her hand, taking two for herself before she stepped back, allowing Katie to snap them out of it.

Katie clapped, making Gustavo scream.

"Why does everybody keep getting paralyzed?" She asked.

Kendall gasped, "Paralyzed!" He turned to Gustavo, "It's not Pair of Eyes. It's Paralyzed."

Emily shrugged, intrigued, "That's pretty rockin'."

"To the studio!" Gustavo cried.

***

An hour later while Gustavo finished up the song, Emily and Kendall were back at Lucy's the tell her all about tomorrow morning.

"Something happened here," Emily hummed to Kendall.

A frozen Carlos and James stood in front of Lucy's door.

Kendall chuckled, knocking.

Lucy opened, groaning, "What? Oh," she realized, seeing Emily and Kendall with a plant. "What's with the plant?"

"It's a housewarming gift," Kendall smiled as Emily passed off the leafy tree. "And I just wanted to tell you the Big Time Rush will be performing our rockin' new song, Paralyzed, on the news tomorrow at 8 am. You might wanna check it out."

"Are you singing the tracks on their news stage?" Lucy questioned.

"Oh, no, no," Emily clarified. "We're going to be on the news."

"For the whole world to see," Kendall smirked as he turned to his friends, clapping in their faces as they unfroze.

"Friend zone, what?"

"She got us again!"

Lucy and Emily shared an amused smile as she shut the door.

"Hey, hey!" Emily snapped, getting their attention. "We have a song to learn," she told them.

"A rockin' song," Kendall chimed.

"Also, are you guys okay with heights?"

***

8 AM.

Emily was cramped into the storage space on the side of the moving truck at 8 AM.

Granted, it was her idea.

Emily convinced Gustavo the most rockin' way to perform the song was on top of a massive truck, spray painted with the title, in the middle of the road in downtown, stopping traffic.

He froze with excitement.

She glued to the walls inside with Logan and James as the truck shuffled down the road.

"Mila?" Emily shuddered.

Logan nodded, "You know her?"

Logan had caught Emily up on everything he was up to, which included robbing the Palm Woods of $10,000 with Mila, Camille's newest role. She was a Russian spy Emily knew all too well.

"I helped her train for the audition," she grimaced.

The truck made a sharp turn, spilling the teens inside the enclosed space. They stumbled, coming to a complete stop. James reached up, opening the door, lighting shining in.

Gustavo cheered to the honking cars as he and Kelly unloaded the amps.

Emily opened another door, letting the band out before running around the back side to hold the latter for them to climb up on.

James gave her a short wink, going unreturned, as he climbed up.

She nailed the mic stands and instruments to the roof the night before so they were also set up and ready.

"I try to speak, but girl you got me tongue-tied," the guys sang. "I try to breath but I'm f-f-frozen inside. I try to move but I'm stuck in my shoes. You got me paralyzed, paralyzed, p-p-paralyzed."

Emily ran around the front, eagerly jumping up and down, urging people to get out of their cars and come dance.

"I see you walking and all you do is pass me by, can't even talk-talk, cause words don't come into my mind. I try to move but I'm stuck in my shoes. You got me paralyzed, paralyzed, p-p-paralyzed."

Emily started dancing with some random girls who joined the party. She looked up at the band. "Paralyzed by you," James sang, the wind blow his hair up. Emily swallowed a lump in her throat, leaving the mosh pit and turning back to dance with Kelly.

"I try to move but I'm stuck in my shoes," Emily sang along, dancing with Kelly. Gustavo tapped them, nodding to move over and out of sight as they saw the cops arrive.

Emily jumped, going on the other side of the car in the street, jumping on the sidewalk.

"I'd make a move if I had the guts to, but I'm paralyzed, paralyzed, p-p-paralyzed," Emily sang, pointing up to Kendall who sang down to her, jumping excitedly at the rockin' song victory.

The crowd erupted into cheers as the guys finished, people coming out onto their balconies in nearby apartment buildings to join in.

***

"And finally, tonight, no charges will be filed against the band Big Time Rush for their impromptu downtown concert this morning," the newscaster said. "Because, according to Police Chief Stevens, 'everyone had a good time and BTR rocks.'"

The friends cheered listening to the news from Lucy's apartment. Emily sat on the back of her couch by Kendall, drumming onto Carlos' shoulders.

"The cops are right, BTR rocks," Lucy said, nodding to Kendall.

"Thank you," he smiled.

"And thank you, you two, for helping me move," she said to James and Carlos. "My place looks great now."

"Friend zone. Yay," The two sarcastically cheered bringing an eye roll from Kendall and Emily.

"Hey," Logan said, "it is going to be cool having a friend with their own place."

Emily gaped, shaking her head as she scoffed, "Um, hello?" She called, waving sarcastically to the boy.

"You don't let us in," Carlos told her, leaning his head back to see her.

Emily scoffed, "Um, I let you in when Gustavo started sleeping in the crib, and you've been in for movie nights."

"Can we go to your place then?"

"No."

Camille sighed, knowingly, "It is a little snug in here, though."

They looked around. The room stretched about 20x8. Just enough room for the tv and the couch and Lucy's equipment.

Sighing, they all grew sad faces, peeking over at Emily.

The girl groaned, giving in, "We can go to my place."

"Yes!" Carlos cheered, jumping up. Everyone stood up at once, knocking over Lucy's storage and James into an amp.

Carlos and Emily stood on the couch, shaking as Logan struggled to find room to get the door open.

Slowly Camille and Lucy follow the guys out, James tripping over the table behind them, holding out a hand for Emily to jump down.

She took it, giving him a blank look, easily jumping off the couch and down the hall with her friends.

***

Okay, but Paralyzed is a serious bop and I need it on spotify so someone get on that for me please.

Also I actually love Lucy so I'm excited, she's such a boss.

And super sorry for the choppy segments in this chapter, that's kinda just how the episode went.

Enjoy :)
