1.07; photoshoot

"What happened?" Camille asked, seeing the drastic difference in Big Time Rush's photo on the Pop Tiger poster and their current state, moaning in pain on the pool chairs.

Emily grimaced, propping Logan's elbows on two pillows.

"You guys look terrible!"

"What happened?" James retorted, sitting up, pointing at the picture. "That picture happened!"

"Stop moving," Emily told them, not understanding how they didn't understand moving meant more pain as she dropped an ice pack into Kendall's lap.

"Camille, get ready for a tale of adventure, danger, and nail-biting suspense," Kendall said, before spitting out a tooth into his palm.

"Did your tooth just fall out?" Emily exclaimed, horrified as she placed a frozen steak against Carlos' face.

"No, wait," Carlos said, picking up the tooth and shoving it into his mouth. "That's mine."

Everyone groaned in disgust watching the boy put his tooth back in.

Emily, placing a bandage on James' forearm, looked away, disturbed by the sight. "It's not all bad Camille," she told her friend.

"Yes it is!" The boys corrected in unison.

Ignoring them, Emily's cheeks began to blush as she smiled, "Dak kissed me," she told her friend, who's jaw dropped in surprise and jealousy.

"No way!"

"It was your cheek," Logan corrected.

"It still happened," Emily said, still smiling brightly.

"Anyway," Kendall interrupted. "We we're enjoying a chill afternoon in the crib..."

Earlier that day

Emily stood, bored as she watched the hockey players engage in a dangerous and aggressive game of indoor hockey.

Kelly has given Emily a blow horn as part of her new plan to handle the band.

The girl pressed down, a loud screeched going off, causing all the boys to halt.

"Helmets off, smiles on!" She announced. "If we hurry, you get to be on the next Pop Tiger, hot-new star pin-up foldout, special spring poster issue!" She told them, excited.

The boys, confused, glanced at each other, and back at the girl.

"Em, in English please," Kendall said.

Disappointed they didn't understand, she rolled her eyes, excitement gone. "You're taking a picture, let's go."

The boys erupted in cheers behind her, throwing off the hockey gear, following behind Emily to the studio's limo.

***

"I can't believe we're going to be in Pop Tiger!" James exclaimed, sitting across from his buds in the limo.

"I know, it's totally awesome! What's Pop Tiger?" Carlos asked, the question lingering between him and the other two boys.

"Only the most popular teen magazine in the world," James answered, pulling out a copy featuring Dak Zevon on the cover.

"Is that Katie's?" Logan asked, "Please tell me it's Katie's."

"Hey, this magazine has great articles for guys too," James defended, looking for an example on the cover. "Like, OMG! I IMed the wrong BFF."

Kendall reached over, took the magazine, and amusingly started to read more examples. "What one thing would hottie hunk Dak Zevon bring to a desert island? I gotta say, I'm curious."

Logan and Carlos leaned in, searching for the answer as Kendall flipped through the pages.

"It's his dog, Snowball," Emily answered, speaking up for the first time since departing from the Palm Woods.

All four boys looked up, confused. "How do you know that?" Logan asked.

"I'm allowed to have a celebrity crush," she retorted, rolling her eyes.

"What an idiot! Everyone knows you bring a rollercoaster!" Carlos exclaimed, stealing the magazine from Kendall.

"You don't bring a rollercoaster," Logan corrected. "You bring a flare gun to signal passing ships."

"What? You don't think people are going to see my extreme looping, coconut coaster?"

"You're island is stupid."

"You're island is boring!"

The two boys started shouting "you're boring," over each other while shoving. Emily blew the airhorn once, making all the boys freeze.

"Stop. You're not gonna want to end up on the walls of millions of girls with a black eye," she warned them.

"Did you say millions of girls?" The boys asked in confirmation.

Just then, high pitched squeals were heard as the limo slowed to a stop outside the studio. Screaming girls began crowding the limo, banging on the windows. While James was excited, Logan and Kendall were a bit weary, as Carlos threw his helmet on for protection.

The girls eventually ran off, in search of Dak Zevon, not Big Time Rush.

"Whoa. What was that?" Kendall asked, getting out of the limo behind Emily.

"Dak Zevon fans. He's recording vocals in the studio today. And I have access to the whole studio," Emily cheered to herself, swinging around her key card.

The boys simultaneously rolled their eyes.

Noticing their judgement, "Hey, that could be you after this picture ends up in the magazine," she reminded them, heading up the stairs into the studio.

The boys caught on, screaming in urgency and excitement, ran up the stairs, pushing Emily out of the way who collided against the railing as the ran ahead of her into the building.

She kept her distance behind them, walking down the hallway, never knowing what might happen, until they all came to a stop.

"Mom and Katie," Kendall noticed, "What are you guys doing here?"

Katie shrugged, holding a copy of the same magazine James showed off earlier. "What? I can't come down to see my big brother who I love?"

All the boys smiled at her response, no more than Kendall. Emily smirked, knowing the real reason she's here.

"She's here for Dak, idiots," She told them, making the boys joy go away, as they've lost another girl to Dak.

"I just want him to autograph this picture for my wall," Katie explained.

"Really? I didn't think you were into that stuff," James said.

"I'm a preteen girl. He's a cute pop star. I'm not made of stone, you know."

Logan smirked, snatching the open poster of Dak from Katie. "Oh yeah, let me take a look at that." The boy put the poster over his face, changed his voice, and pretended to be Dak. "Look, I'm Dak Zevon. And I love you, Katie Knight."

While the boys laughed in amusement, Emily stepped back, knowing any second a wavepool of fangirls could run in.

As if on cue, the girls who surrounded the limo earlier screamed, tackling Logan to the crowd, until they realized he wasn't really Dak and left screaming.

"Now, where's Dak recording?" Mrs. Knight asked Emily.

"I don't know, but if you wanna crack someone, go find Kelly," Emily suggested, giving Katie a wink.

Katie and her mom smiled to each other, taking off through the studio to get information out of Kelly.

Logan finally recovered, standing up, his hair a mess, and one arm out of the sleeve. Her mumbled a few incoherent sayings, obviously in shock and pain, recovering yet again when upbeat music started playing, making all the boys take off into the practice studio, discovering dim lights and camera and fog and backdrops for their photo.

Upon seeing the band arrive, the photographer, a European man with long brown curls, grabbed his camera, "Are you ready to rock my camera?"

The boys couldn't hear over the loud music. The man, realizing this, turned it off, silence overtaking the room.

"That's better. So, how you guys doing?"

"Boys," Gustavo said, entering the room with Kelly at his side. "This is Marcos Del Posey, the best teen idol photographer on the planet."

"Some say photographer," Marcos said, posing besides his camera. "Some say magician. Mira! One camera," He said, taking flash photos of the teens in front of him, blinding their eyes. Emily cowered behind Kendall, mumbling how she doesn't like to have her picture taken. "Oh, now, two camera!" The man announced, pulling out a second camera, continuing to blind the kids.

Suddenly, Marcos tosses both of his cameras behind him, breaking, "Okay, here's what I am thinking: shirts open, hair blowing, with-" he snaps his fingers, an assistant bringing him a large stuffed dog, black and white, "the stuffy puppy!"

Immediately, the boys all groaned and shouted in distaste of the idea, while Emily locked her eyes on the stuffed dog, really wanting it.

"Marcos invented the stuffy puppy shot," He told the boys, disappointed at their reaction.

"Yeah," Gustavo intervened, taking the dog away from Marcos and throwing it into Emily's arms who happily caught it, "no. I just want a simple shot of the four best friends just chilling and being themselves."

Emily, not paying attention, started showing off the puppy to Carlos, knowing he would enjoy it.

"I totally agree," Kendall said, snapping his fingers at Gustavo.

The man mimicked the boys actions, "I totally don't care. Now get on the backdrop and look handsome."

The boys, now in front of the backdrop, stood waiting for the lights to come back on and for makeup to finish up on them.

"I change my mind about the island. I'm gonna bring a fridge packed full of ice cream," Carlos told his friends. Emily nodded sharply at him.

"That sounds awesome."

"Where are you going to get the electricity, genius?" Logan retorted.

"Electric eels, duh!" Carlos responded, smacking Logan. Logan hit Carlos back in return, starting a small fight between the two boys with Kendall stuck in the middle while James combed through his hair on the side.

Kelly rolling her eyes, pulling an air horn out of her purse, blasting the harsh sound.

"Dogs, heel!" Gustavo yelled. "We need a great picture before the Pop Tiger messenger gets here in two hours."

"Wouldn't this all be easier if you planned better ahead of time?" Emily asked out loud, the boys "ooh-ing" at her comment to her boss, as she pet the fur down on her stuffed dogs ears.

"Play with your puppy," Gustavo mocked, turning back to the boys. "Look into the camera, and think about something funny."

Kendall pointed something out to his friends, all of them laughing, making for a beautiful picture.

"Take the picture, take the picture now, before something goes wrong!"

"What could go wrong? I'm Marcos!" The photographer said, sifting through his cameras.

"You don't know these boys, so snap the picture now," Kelly snapped, making Emily nod heavily in agreement as the boys continued laughing to themselves.

Marcos, behind the camera, was about to get the photo when a harsh voice rang from the door.

"Freeze!"

The group turned to see two police officers in the room. The stepped forward, grabbing each side of Gustavo.

"Gustavo Rocque, you failed to report to your court ordered community service."

"Officers, I don't know what you're talking about," Gustavo shrugged.

"I'm talking about destroying Matthew McConaughey's mailbox with..." The woman started to say, turning around and pointing at Emily and Kelly, aggressively, "them!"

"He made me be the lookout!" Kelly defended.

"He made me drive the car!" Emily yelled, pointing at Gustavo in accusation.

"I got you coffee!" Gustavo yelled back, upset they both sold him out so quickly.

"Let's go," the man said, dragging Gustavo and Emily out, while the woman pushed Kelly out of the studio as the boys watched helplessly as their team was arrested.

"Get your hands off me!"

"Gustavo," the voice of Arthur Griffin called, walking down the hallway with his team. "I see the photoshoot is going well."

"Griffin, perfect! Look we're in a bit of a jam here. Tell them to take their hands off me so I can take that picture," Gustavo asked his boss, Emily and Kelly giving a hopeful look to the CEO.

With a soft smile, Griffin spoke, "Don't worry. I'll take care of everything."

"Hah! You heard the fourth most powerful CEO in America. Do what he says and unhand us!" Gustavo demanded, dramatically. Emily waited patiently to be released.

"Oh, I didn't mean unhand you. I meant I'd take care of the photoshoot."

The three stood there, mouths dropped. Griffin had no artistic vision and would ruin the band.

"I'm very creative."

As the cops began to drag the three off, despite their protests, Griffin walked past, stopped and turned back around.

"Wait. Let Moore go, I have a job for her."

Emily, relieved, broke hold and ran away from the police officers. Gustavo and Kelly continued to fight as they were dragged out.

"Emily, I'd like you to work with Dak Zevon in the studio today. Make sure he has everything he needs."

"Yes," She responded automatically. She didn't get arrested and she got to work with Dak Zevon. It was the best day ever. "Yes, sir. Absolutely. I'll get right on that."

She marched back into the studio to grab her stuff before heading down the hall. At her reappearance the boys expressed a variety of emotions. Grateful she wasn't arrested, but confused as to why.

"Well, look who's back," Kendall hummed.

Emily gave the boys a happy shrug as Griffin entered.

"Good news, boys. I'm in charge."

Their faces dropped.

"But, uh, Emily's here," James pointed out, fearful of Griffin controlling their picture.

"Yes. But she's going down the hall to work with Dak Zevon instead."

Betrayed, the boys started shouted at their friend.

"Guys! It's Dak Zevon," She reminded them, walking out the door to find her secret celebrity crush.

She knew the boys were upset, but she could only overpower Griffin so much. Basically not at all. Also she reminded herself those boys would leave her for a pretty, available girl if given the chance and didn't feel so guilty anymore.

Arriving at the studio down the hall of Rocque Records, two large security guards stood, arms crossed outside the room.

Emily plastered a small, friendly smile, flashing her employee badge. The men nodded, slyly opening one of the doors, immediately shutting it on her to keep the fan girls out.

Inside the booth, Dak was working with a technician, going over the song he would record today for that new movie.

"Hi, I'm Emily Moore, a production assistant for Gustavo Rocque," the girl spoke, eagerly stepping forward to shake the guys hand.

"I'm Dak, it's nice to meet you."

Remaining professional, she pulled out a copy of the songs and notes the writer left in Griffin's possession when he booked Dak to record at his studio. "So, we are recording extra vocals for Varsity Vampire 2: Game On, right?" She confirmed, going to double check the correct set up on the equipment.

"Yes, ma'am," the star replied, sending butterflies into Emily's stomach at the politeness.

Scoffing, "you do not need to call me 'ma'am,'" she insisted, crossing over to the stairs leading into the booth. "Ready to get started, Mr. Zevon?"

The guy, an amused smirk on his face, scoffed as the girl hiked her way into the booth, "you do not need to call me 'Mr. Zevon'"

A wave hit Emily as she gave a sarcastic look to Dak as he set up to record. She hadn't had a real conversation with a guy like this since the boys came into town. All of her time had been occupied by them.

She sat, head of the board, in the studio, watching levels as Dak sang. In charge for the first time.

***

"Go back, let's do that last measure one more time," Emily spoke over the mic.

Dak nodded, and waited patiently for the music to kick back in.

"Take it to the hoop every chance we get. 'Cause when the sun goes down, we're creatures of the net."

"You're right, that sounds better. Does it?" Dak asked, sliding the headphones down to his neck.

"Yeah," She nodded in response, flipping through the compositions. "And now, let's go to-"

The work was cut at the commotion of screams and violent shakes at the door.

Dak threw his headphones off, backing away, fearfully, knowing what was on the other side of that door.

Emily stood, frantic, and unaware of how to handle this situation. She rushed out of the booth, meeting Dak as he pressed his back into the wall.

"I'm dead. What do I do?" The boy asked the girl.

At the lost for words, Emily could only shake her head apologetically and do her best to help Dak escape. Until an angel appeared.

At their feet, the air vent swung open, Katie Knight crawling through.

"Katie?" Emily questioned, concerned on how she got in there.

"I'm Katie," she repeated to Dak, formally introducing herself.

"I'm Dak?" The guy replied, unsure and equally confused as Emily.

"Come with me if you want to live."

Dak whipped his head to Emily, waiting for an answer.

She nodded vigorously, "Yeah, she's good. Go," she said, ushering him into the vents, closing the gate and running to his behind the booth door as the girls broke down the wooden doors.

The girls, pouring into the space, furiously looked around for Dak. When they realized he was gone, a girl at the front screamed to find him before all the girls screamed, running back out the doors.

Emily, seeing it was safe to go out, jumped over the steps, and frantically spirited out of the studio, into the lobby, looking for a plausible vent Katie could be crawling through with Dak.

Running down the hallway, she began running alongside Gustavo and Kelly, both in orange jumpsuits. As the skidded to a stop in the lobby, the three reunited with the band, dressed in horrific matadors costumes.

"Dogs, what is going on here?" Gustavo yelled.

"What are you wearing?" Emily, horrified asked, realizing maybe she shouldn't fought for the picture more.

"We're saving our photo from Griffin," Kendall replied, a classic, no-worries, smirk.

"And where have you been?" Gustavo shouted, turning to Emily for answers.

"Betraying us," James answered, bitterly speaking for the group who nodded as Emily rolled her eyes in exasperation.

Before she could justify her actions, a small honk came from behind as a guy with a speak voice rode in on a scooter. "I'm here to pick up a photo card for Pop Tiger magazine."

"Coming right up!" The boys declared, shaking off the jackets, revealing normal clothes underneath, as the whole team piled into the office to take the picture.

There was an impromptu white backdrop, they had a spare camera, home-made lighting, and the rest of their outfits ready.

"Hey," the camera was tossed to Gustavo. "Shoot it from the waist up," James told him, slipping the velvet jacket over his T-shirt.

Amazed at their work, Emily saw the production come together.

"Smile, pretty-pretty!" Kendall mocked.

Except for Gustavo who hesitated with the camera.

"Take the picture!" The boys shouted.

Emily shoves Gustavo aside, stoke the camera, and within milliseconds had snapped the picture.

The boys sighed in relief.

Kelly got the memory card from the camera, as Emily gave the camera back to a silent Gustavo.

"See ya in Pop Tiger boys!" The messenger said, riding off on his bike down the hallway.

"I don't know what happened here today," Gustavo started to say, "but maybe we should leave the dogs along more often."

"I wouldn't," Emily mumbled to her boss.

The joyous moment ended as a loud clang came from behind the desk. Turning to see, Emily spotted Katie climbing out of the vent leading into the office.

"There you are!" Emily sighed in relief, going around the desk. "You good?"

Dak smiled, nodding at the girl.

"Look who I found," Katie told the boys, pointing back to Dak.

"I think they saved my life," Dak told them. "Thanks," he said, leaning in and places a small kiss on Emily's cheek.

The girl felt herself starting to blush, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, as she held back a smile.

The boys, expressed confusion, surprise, and for one, jealousy.

"That's Dak Zevon!" Katie cheered out loud.

"Katie!" Emily screamed.

"No!" The boys shouted.

The sounds of teenage girls screaming grew louder, as Katie and Emily both shoves Dak to the ground and back into the vents just as the girls ran in, attacking the first thing in their way: Big Time Rush.

***

"Huh, who knew such a simple picture could bring you so close to death?" Camille thought out loud.

"But it was totally worth it," James smiled, holding his neck.

"Because Dak Zevon kissed me," Emily answered, giving a happy smile to Camille.

"No," the boys groaned.

"Because we're going to be on the walls of millions of girls," Carlos corrected, the steak resting on half of his face.

"All over the country," Logan commented.

Camille, a smug look, "of course you are. Because Dak Zevon is on the other side," she told them, turning the poster around.

The boys all groaned and cried in despair, as Emily began laughing into her fist, until she couldn't anymore and had to walk off so she didn't laugh in front of the guys.
