Super Foxes
*3rd Person POV*
Beau sits in one of the chairs on his porch, it was really late and Beau couldn't really sleep. This whole ordeal with Avery putting Carla and Emily in some sort've danger, really bothered and annoyed him. But another thing plagued his mind; the look of disappointment on (y/n)'s face when she saw Carla and Emily pull up.
It was a very nice surprise when (y/n) showed up with a six pack and he really wanted to spend some time with her, but Carla's and Emily's safety were very important. Maybe he could talk to her and set up a date with her once this whole thing with Avery was dealt with.
If (y/n) really was disappointed when she saw Carla and Emily, he needs to set the record straight. He doesn't want her to get the wrong idea or for them to have a communication problem.
Him and Carla already had enough trouble with that as it is. He really wants things to be different with (y/n), if things between them do get serious as he hopes they will.
He sighs through his nose as he leans his head back, closing his eyes, letting the cool night air flow over him when he hears the door to the trailer open. He looks over to his left and sees Emily walking out of the trailer with a lantern in hand. "Hey, what are you doing?" He asked her. "I can't sleep." She said. "Come join me. I could use the company. Here." he said and he hands her a blanket and drapes it over her lap as she sits down in a chair. "Thanks." Emily said and the two of them sigh as Beau sits back down in his chair and gives a small chuckle.
"You know, Avery's not a bad person." Emily said. "Well, he's not a good one, Em. He's trying to steal $15 million. That money may have got someone killed. He's put you and he's put your mom in danger. And I'm sitting here trying to rack my brain...what she sees in that guy." He said, bothered, then he sighs.
"Sorry, I shouldn't say that to you." He said as Emily looks over at her father. "You know, maybe it's not about money for him." Emily defended and Beau looks over at her. "Avery's a rich guy. He probably wants to stay that way." He said. "Yeah, 'cause he thinks that, without it, he might lose her." Emily said and Beau inhales deeply and pats his hand on the arm of his chair.
"Why don't we talk about something else?" He asked her and she smiles. "Okay. Any topic?" Emily asked him. "Let's dive deep. Take your best shot." He offers and Emily thinks on it before she talks about one of the few questions on her mind.
"Um, what's the deal between you and (y/n)?" She asked and Beau was surprised to hear her ask this. "Uh, what do you mean?" He asked and she gives him a look. "You know what I mean." She said and Beau sighs. "Honestly? I don't know exactly. Right now we're just...testing the water. See if we're both willing to dive in." he replied.
"And are you?" She asked him and Beau thinks for a moment before he responded. "Yes, I am. But I'm waiting til she says she's ready. She's been through a lot and I don't want her to feel pressured." He said and Emily stares at him and smiled a little. "Well, ain't you a romantic?" She teased and Beau scoffs.
"What happened in Houston...with your partner?" She then asked him and Beau seemed taken aback by her question. "You know what happened." He said. "Yeah, I know what happened, but, like, not from you. You never talked about it." She said. "There's not much to know. Not much to talk about." Beau said to her and Emily nods and bites her lips.
"Okay." She whispers and she gets up and sets the blanket down on the chair. "Come on, Em, where you going?" Beau asked her as she goes to the front door but stops and turns to her father. "Mom never needed you to be perfect. You know? She just wanted you to let her in more." She tells him before she heads into the trailer and slams the door behind her. Beau sighs at this as he leans back in his seat.
*(y/n)'s POV*
"Jenny, we're...we're so sorry." Cassie said to Jenny as we stand in her kitchen, several officers were looking around in her house for clues and Jenny was getting checked out by a paramedic as we talked to her. "Yeah, she showed up at the house. Someone roughed her up." Jenny mutters then sniffles as the paramedic guy walks off once he was done checking up on her.
"Did she say who?" I asked her. "Something about grifting the wrong guy." Jenny replied and Poppernak comes up, holding a black purse. "Sorry. Uh, is this yours or your mom's?" He asked, sincerely. "Have you ever seen me with a purse?" She snarked and he nods. "Right." He said then he goes to bag up the purse.
"Jenny, we gotta get you to the hospital." Cassie tells her. "She said that they were after her. I just didn't believe her." Jenny said, her voice shaking, before she sighs. "I need to find her. Figure out who these people are..." she said as she stands up but suddenly falls forward, Poppernak and I catch her before she could fall face first on the floor.
"No, no, no, no, no!" Poppernak said as we set her back on her seat. "Alright. You're not going anywhere right now. We got you." Poppernak tells her, softly, and she looks down, distraught. I place a hand on her shoulder and pat it, comforting.
"We found the motel's key on Gigi's purse. It was to an old dive out in Great Falls." Beau explains the next morning as he, Cassie, Poppernak and I sit in one of the conference rooms at the station. Beau and Poppernak had a projection of Gigi's rap sheet and file on the board. "The room was paid in full by a Gilbert Leeds. Rap sheet's pretty long. Mostly petty crimes. But I'm guessing that's Gigi's accomplice in the grift." Beau said as Cassie and I sit there and look at the screen that showed Gilbert's criminal file.
"A security cam caught a truck speeding off at the time of the attack. No plates, but....we got horns." Poppernak said as he pushes the button on the controller and shows a picture of a big truck with bull horns on the hood. "Please don't be from Texas." Beau prays and I chuckle, softly.
"We get anything else?" A familiar voice said and we all turn and see Jenny had walked in. "What?" Cassie asked, confused. "You're not supposed to be here." I tell her. "What, did you bust out of the hospital?" Beau asked her as Poppernak goes to hug her. "And did you hurt anyone doing it?" He asked and she laughs as they break the hug.
"Hey." Beau said as he and her hug. "Thanks for being here." She said. "Try and stop me." Beau said then he pulls out of the hug. "But you should be home, resting." He tells her. "Well, I can't just sit around while my mom's missing. What do we got?" She asked and Cassie pulls out a picture of Gilbert and hands it to her.
"This is who she was working with, and as you can see by the state of the motel, she fought like hell to escape." Cassie said as Poppernak pushes the button in the remote and shows a picture of the motel room, which looked like tornado went through there. "She's a fighter." Jenny said as Beau's phone rings. "Yeah, this is Arlen." He answers then listens to the other end for a few moments. "Okay. Yeah, copy that." He said then he hangs.
"Uh, patrol officer has spotted Avery." He said and we all look at him, concerned. "Go." Jenny tells him. "Yeah, we got this." Cassie assures him. He nods then he glances at me before he starts walking out. "(Y/n), can you come with me?" He asked me as he walks and I look between Jenny and Cassie, seeing if it was okay. They nod at me and I get up. "Give me an update and let me know if you need help." I tell them as I follow Beau out of the room.
It was a bit quiet between us as we walked through the station, whether it be that Beau was focused on finding Avery as soon as possible or he was waiting for me to say something about last night. I didn't know what to say or even how to say anything to him, I was still a little sad about last night but I also felt silly and a bit childish for even thinking this way.
He had a family to protect and I understand and even respect it.
I follow Beau to his car and was just so lost in thought, I didn't realize that he actually opened the passenger door for me. Startled, I look over at him and give him a small smile. "Such a gentleman." I joked and he gives a smile as I climb in the car and he shuts it behind me while I settle into the seat and put the seatbelt on. He gets into the driver's seat, starts up the car and we start to head out.
It stays quiet for a few moments before both of us started to speak at the same time.
"About last night..."
"I wanted to say..."
Both of us stop and I bite my lip and he chuckles a little. "You go first." Beau said and I look over at him. "You sure?" I asked him. "Yeah, ladies always go first." He said and I giggle. "You really are a gentleman." I said and I see some pink tinge his cheeks. "Making you blush again, Texas." I teased and I noticed he seemed to relax a little.
Then I lowered my eyes before I spoke up. "I just wanted to say I'm sorry for coming over last night unannounced. I should've called or texted first..." I said. "Darlin', there's nothing to be sorry about." He tells me and I felt my heart jump for joy at the pet name. "But...I did want to ask, was there something wrong? I mean, you looked upset when you left." He asked me and I sighed.
"I don't know...you're gonna think I'm silly." I said. "Try me." He said and I pause at this and think over my words. "I'm gonna sound silly and childish for saying this but...I was feeling a bit jealous." I admitted. "Of who? Carla?" He asked me and I raise my eyes back at him just as he looks at me. "I know...silly, right?" I said, trying to brush it off, as he looks back at the road. "It's not. I'm actually quite flattered about it." He said as he turns his head to me, giving me that little smirk.
I look at him, pointedly, then he looks towards the road again before his smile grew. "Okay, I kinda find it hot." He teased and I, playfully, hit his shoulder. "Shut up!" I said and he laughs at this. "So, if you're jealous of Carla that means you must really like me, right?" He asked as he looks back at me, seeing how I would respond to this.
As his car roars down the road, I think on it for a few moments before I decided to give my answer. "I do." I said, finally, as I look to see his reaction, he had a surprised look on his face which then turns into a big smile. "Good, cause I really like you too." He tells me and I smile as my face turns red. "So, maybe once all this Avery crap is done and over with, you and I can go out for drinks, my treat."
My smile grew and I look into his sparkling green eyes. "It's a date, Texas." I said, softly, and he takes my left hand in his right hand then brings my hand up to his lips so he could kiss the back of it. I giggled and he gives me this loving look. "Okay, Steve McQueen, eyes on the road." I tell him and he chuckles as he looks back on the road but still holds my hand and I run my thumb across the back of his hand, in a comforting manner.
Beau and I pull up to the motel the eye witness said they saw Avery at and head inside. After asking which room Avery was staying in, we head to the floor and walk down the hallway to see Avery being lead out of his room by a tall bald man.
"Avery. Who's your friend?" Beau calls out as we walk towards them then stopped, I stood on Beau's right side. Avery and the man turn and I notice the man had a gun, which he cocks and aims it at us. "His friend is none of your concern." The man said, threatening, as he grabs Avery's arm with his free hand. "Well, actually, it is, seeing as I'm the sheriff and all. And she's the deputy." Beau said as he places his hands on his hips, showing his badge.
"Huh." The guy hums, impressed. "I never shot a sheriff before. I have shot some deputies in my time but none as pretty." He said and I rolled my eyes. "Flattery will get you nowhere." I snarked. "And, we're not gonna do that, gunslinger." Beau said
"Beau, please, just turn around, walk away." Avery pleads to us and he lets out some shaky breathes as he looks over at his friend then back at us. "I'm handling it. I'm handling things, alright?" He tries to assure. "No, Avery, I think you're pretty much done handling things." Beau said and Avery looks frightened and baldy looks like he's ready to kill
"But you know what, big fella? It's your lucky day." Beau said and baldy smirks as Beau smiles. "You can have him." He said and I could see the look of terror on Avery's face while I give a confused look towards Beau. Is he seriously gonna let him go? "I'll catch you later." Beau said then he turns to me. "C'mon, (y/n)." He tells me as he turns away from Avery and the man and I follow him, still confused.
We took a few steps down the hall, I come up to now his left, when I heard a gun being cocked behind us. And in one swift moment, Beau pulls me behind him as he pulls his gun out, turns and fires. Beau's bullet hits baldy in the chest and he grunts then falls to the ground, both of us run over to the dead man before Beau turns to Avery.
"Put your hands on your head." He tells Avery, who stands there in shock. "Put your hands on your head." Beau said again and Avery does as he says and I begin to pat him down for any weapons then I look over at Beau. "He's clean." I said then I go to handcuff Avery. "Don't give me a reason to make my life any easier." Beau threatens Avery and we lead him out.
After bringing Avery to the station and have him put into an interrogation room, Beau and I enter the room and I get the feeling I'm gonna end up being the mediator in this interrogation.
"Okay." Beau sighs as he takes a seat across from Avery while I stand and lean against the wall behind him. "Start talking." Beau tells him. "Well, I'm afraid there's not much I can say." Avery said, shrugging. "Why don't we start with the guy who was just trying to kill us, hmm? Who was that?" Beau asked him.
"Am I being charged with something?" Avery asked and Beau leans back in his chair, I could tell he was getting frustrated as he inhales sharply. "You know, I found those journal pages that you stole. Guess you're trying to get your hands on that $15 million. Or maybe you already have it." Beau said. "I'm sorry. Did someone report that money stolen? Because...As far as I can make out, that is what is known as a victimless crime." Avery said, firmly.
"What's your plan, man? Hmm?" Beau asked as he leans forward, his hands folded in front of him on the table. "New identity? Thailand? Or maybe you're not into the whole heat thing. Winnipeg?" Beau asked him but Avery stays silent. "Avery, these people, they don't forgive, and they don't forget." I said and he looks at me, quickly, before looking back down.
"And the ones that steal from them rarely die alone, which means you have put Carla and you have put my daughter into danger. Did you even think about that?" Beau asked him, angrily, then Avery leans forward. "Everything I've done...has been to protect my family. That's all you need to know." Avery said in a smug tone and my jaw drops, slightly, at this. What an asshole! I thought and I could tell Beau was shocked about this.
"You, on the other hand, you've made quite the tidy mess, haven't you? Killing that man put us all in more danger." Avery said, looking like he won a game of chess as he leans back in his chair and gives a smug smirk to Beau as if to say checkmate. "And now I'd very much like to speak to my lawyer." He said and Beau glares at Avery then he bites his lips then stands up.
Once he stands up, he kicks his chair back and walks out of the room. Avery looks down at the table and I glance over at him. "Wow, you really think you won that." I remarked. "I had everything under control and now because of Beau, my wife and daughter are going to be targeted." Avery said to me and I scoffed. "And, remind me, whose fault is that in the first place?" I asked him and he looks at me. He looked like he wanted to say something but he couldn't think of anything.
"You wanted to make a lot of money really fast. I get that. But like the selfish bastard that you are, you didn't think fully of the danger you'd be putting the woman and child you claim to love in danger. Now it's up to us to clean up your mess before anyone else gets killed. And if I had it my way, you'd be behind bars for the rest of your life. If only to keep Carla and Emily safe from you." I tell him and he furrows his brow at me.
"Oh? And you think Beau hasn't put people he's cared about in danger? Has he ever told you about the partner he had before you?" Avery asked me and I gulp a little. "Carla's told me a little bit." I replied. "Ah, so he hasn't told you." He said. "He'll tell me when he's ready." I said, firmly. "All I know is that Beau is a good man and he's doing his best."
"And don't I deserve that mindset from you?" He asked. "No. Because you put money before your family and wouldn't take responsibility of what happened to your company. Anyone that does that is the furthest thing from a good man." I said before I go towards the door and leaves the room.
I walk down the hall and try to look for Beau. I eventually find him in his office, sitting at his desk and throwing his football up into the air and catching it. Like he's trying to calm himself down or keep his mind occupied. I knock to make my presence known to him but he doesn't respond so I go and shut the door behind me.
"Hey..." I said, with soft caution, as I go up to his desk. "You need anything?" I asked him and Beau shakes his head and continues throwing his ball. "Beau, you know we won't let anything happen to Carla and Emily." I assure him as he catches his football then looks at me.
"We better. Because if something were to happen to them..." He said, gripping his ball tightly in his hands, then he throws it and knocks down a couple of plaques on the wall of his office. I jumped at this and Beau seemed to noticed then takes a deep breath.
"I'm sorry...I just...all I see is red right now." He grumbles and I place a hand on his shoulder. "Hey, it's okay. I understand, Beau. That asshole was out of line saying that to you and for also putting Carla and Emily in danger." I said as I sit at the edge of his desk, facing towards him.
I, gently, grab his chin and pull his face to look at me. "Know that I'm right here by your side and I'll do everything I can for you not to feel that kind of pain." I assured him and his eyes soften and a ghost of a smile graces his lips. I remove my hand off of his chin and give him a smile as he starts to stand up.
He goes to stand in front of me and the two of us stare at each other, this tension between us rising. He places a hand on my cheek and strokes it with his thumb. His eyes looks down at my lips then back into my eyes, which made me let out a small gasp.
He starts to lean in towards me and my heart thumped hard against my chest as he got closer. I start to close my eyes, awaiting for the feeling of his lips on mine but then we heard a knock on the door.
Beau pulls back and I open my eyes as the door opens. Beau takes a step back and I stand up as Poppernak comes in. "Hey, Pops, what's up?" Beau asked, after clearing his throat. "Cassie called. They need backup." Poppernak said and my heart dropped at this. Then I look over at Beau. "I'll go, you got a lot of crap going on." I tell him and he nods. "Be careful." He tells me and I smile.
"Careful's my middle name." I joked and I give him a wink before I go over to Pops and we head out.
I was in my car with Pops as we head to this run down looking house that seemed to have a large barn behind it. Cassie told Pops that they were able to find Gigi but her and Jenny were captured by this weird family cult that apparently Gigi pissed off.
We quietly come up to the house until I hear over the speaker of Pops phone. "They're safe. Move in." Cassie's voice tells us and we all pull up to the barn. I get out and lead the officers in and we burst in. "Police! Hands up!" I ordered, with my gun raised as other officers enter the barn and surround two men, who had guns.
I look around and noticed there were several young children in the barn and they begin to cry as they all look up to this old heavyset woman, which I guess was the leader. Pops and I go over to her. "It's alright, children." The woman assures the kids as Pops handcuffs her then I look behind the woman and see Jenny, Cassie and Gigi, who looked beaten up.
"Girls!" I said, relieved, and I run over to them and hug Jenny and Cassie. "You two seem to have a story to tell." I said and they laugh as we pull back from the hug and I look over at Gigi. "Glad to see you're alive and well." I said to her and she looks down at the ground in shame.
*3rd Person POV*
That night, Beau and Carla were sitting out on his porch and looking up at the starry night. "I'm really thankful for you helping us." Carla said. "Yeah." Beau mutters and Carla looks at him. "What's going on, huh?" She asked him. "I got a bad feeling about all this. It's like in Houston with Randy." Beau admits, frowning.
"No. You can't go there." Carla tells him. "It's too late. 'Cause it feels the same. Like something is...is comin', and I'm...powerless to stop it." Beau reveals. "Randy's death was not your fault." Carla tells him, firmly. "We both know that's not true. He was my partner, and I let him down. And then...then I wasn't there for you and I wasn't there for Emily. I don't blame you for leaving me." He said, guiltily.
"Well, you are here for us now." Carla assures him. "That don't make up for the way I checked out." He smirks. "I forgive you for all of that, okay?" Carla tells him and he looks down. "And I'm telling you, this thing with Avery...this isn't over by a long shot." He said and Carla starts to shake and tears begin to build up in her eyes.
"I'm not saying that to scare you. You understand that?" He asked her as she nods. "Okay. Yeah." She replied, shakily. "But I need you to know this." He said. "Okay." She said. "I'm not gonna let anything happen to you two." He assures. "I know." Carla said, her voice breaking, as they share a look.
"God." Beau whispers, shakily. "I'll always love you." He tells Carla and she exhales at this and grabs his hand, holding it. "Really? Cause seems like you found a new love." Carla said and Beau gives her a look. "You mean (y/n)?" He asked, feeling worried and nervous about what she'd say. "I saw the picture Harry took of you two and seeing you two together...it takes me back to when we first started going out. How you used to be that way before what happened in Houston." She said and Beau looks away for a moment.
"Hey, I'm happy for you, Beau." She said as she squeezes his hand. "And I love you too and I know things ended bad between us but I also want you to be happy." She adds and Beau huffs out a chuckle before licking his lips. "Is it wrong for us to still love each other, even though we've both moved on? Or, in my case, trying to move on?" Beau asked and Carla smiles.
"No, I don't think so. Sometimes people aren't always meant to stick around...and that's okay. Doesn't mean you have to stop loving them. Just means you have to be grateful for the good times you did have together." She said and Beau nods at this.
*(y/n)'s POV*
"Good job with your statement, Mom. It's gonna help us make a solid case." Jenny tells her mom as we walk out of the interrogation room. "Anything to see those lunatic murders get what they deserve." Gigi said, happily, as we walk towards the lobby of the station.
"Now I understand how...putting bad guys in jail has some appeal." Gigi laughs as Jenny nods towards me and I go around behind Gigi. "Good." Jenny said and I handcuff Gigi. "Then you'll understand why I can't just let you walk away." Jenny said and Gigi looks over her shoulder at me then to her daughter.
"You would really put me in jail after everything we just went through?" She asked, astonished. "What we went through was because of you. But it did mean something to me, Mom. Let's just call it a start. We don't get to cherry-pick the rule of law. Sorry." Jenny said while Pops comes up to me and takes Gigi.
"Come with me, Ms. Cessna." He said as he starts to lead her to the cells. "Wait. Wait, wait." Gigi said as turns to Jenny and Pops stop to let her talk to Jenny. "What the hell else is there to say? Sometimes you really disappoint me, Jenny Bear." she said, with a glare, while Jenny gives a small smile. "Right back at ya. And I love you, too." She tells her and Gigi scoffs out a laugh and Pops leads her to the cell.
"You okay?" I asked Jenny and she sighs. "Kinda but...glad she's okay." She mutters and I pat her on the back. "Well, I think this calls for a drink night!" I said and Jenny smiled at me. "You read my mind." She said and we head out and head to her house to enjoy some drinks to relax.
