Childhood Blues
—Childhood Blues (Tadashi Hamada x Reader)—
((A/N: So this was a request by @PygmyPuff14! :3 Uhmm, I'm not sure how this turned out xD It's my first time to do a request...but I hope you like it :) I was inspired by the song, "Childhood Blues" by Megpoid Gumi.))

"This is Tadashi Hamada, and this is the...76th test...of my robotics project." I heard a familiar voice as I quietly entered the cluttered laboratory.
The raven haired man activated the marshmallow looking robot with hopeful eyes. Unfortunately, the robot almost immediately shut itself down, making the young man sigh heavily.
I cleared my throat, informing him of my presence. "Baymax still not ready, Dashi?" I asked sympathetically.
"Yeah...it looks like it still needs a lot more work on it, but I'm not giving up." he smiled.
Giving him that certain mischievious look on my face he knew all too well, he rolled his eyes. "You're here to tell me you're going to that hilltop at San Fransokyo Park again, aren't you?" Seeing me stiffen, he squinted his eyes. "(Name), you know that's just a rumour, right?"
"Oh, c'mon...It's not that rumour that I believe in...I-I just think it's a great good luck chant!" I defended, nervously twirling my (h/c) coloured locks.
He raised an eyebrow, giving me a skeptical look. "Uh-huh. You're as believable as Hiro when he said that he was giving up on gummy bears."
I puffed my cheeks, "Hmph! What's your problem? If you think it's so stupid, then I could just go ahead without you."
"I didn't say it was stupid. It's just...not scientifical." he said as he picked up his satchel and carried it across his shoulder. Turning to me, he adjusted his baseball cap and spoke, "And don't think I'll let you go off on your own; it'll be dark soon and it'll be a longer walk for you if we don't take the moped."
"Alright! Thanks, Dashi!" I smiled at him as I grabbed his hand and quickly headed for the SFIT parking lot.

When Tadashi and I arrived at that particular hilltop in San Fransokyo Park, I couldn't help but gaze at the wondrous view before us. "Sunset. Just in time." I thought happily.
"If from that hill, you watch the sky while the sun was setting for 30 days,
your love will be reciprocated."
Ever since I overheard that rumour, I've been going to this hill to watch the sky as the sun sets. I wasn't really one to believe things that have no scientific evidence, but...when you're desperate, these kind of things are necessary.
It's been three weeks since I've started going to this hill. One more week, and I'll fulfill my so-called, "good luck chant". That's what I tell Tadashi, but the truth is, I was using these days to gather my courage little by little. So that by the time the month ends, I'll be brave enough to tell the person I like how I really feel.
As I finished gazing at the orange sky, I turned around to look at my childhood friend. He was sitting on a park bench, looking like he was sulking about something. "Honestly, Dashi, if your going to put on that sour face, then you shouldn't have forced yourself to accompany me." I sighed.
"I told you, it'll get dark, so it'll be dangerous for you to go walking around San Fransokyo at nighttime." he said, walking over to the moped.
He tossed me a helmet without warning, which I caught just in time. "Hey. We're the same age, so stop treating me like a kid." I pouted, walking up to him.
"It's not like that, silly." he chuckled, pinching my cheek. Not accepting his reason, I gave a huff and climbed on the moped. As soon as he started up the engine, I wrapped my arms around his torso and buried my face on his back. "Idiot." I whispered, feeling my face heat up.

The ride home wasn't that long since the streets of San Fransokyo weren't that crowded during nighttime. When we arrived home, I got off the moped and handed the helmet back to Tadashi.
While he was placing the helmets back in the compartment, I looked at the bright sign board of the Lucky Cat Cafe. Ah, how it brings back so many memories.
I lived across the street from that cafe, which also happens to be the Hamada residence. The first day I moved in to San Fransokyo, I was instantly attracted to the cafe's wonderful scent of freshly baked goods, along with the warmhearted people who lived there. Tadashi and I hit off really well, and I've been good friends with him and his younger brother Hiro ever since.
It was when I looked at Tadashi that I realised how much time had gone by. He wasn't that dorky and awkward boy from the cafe anymore. No. He was taller, well-built, and had a mature disposition for his age. Probably because he was an older brother, and the only male figure that Hiro could look up to. He's become a man now.
"Uh, (Name)? Hello?" Tadashi waved a hand in front of my face, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I smiled at him and spoke, "I can't believe it's already been ten years since I moved here. Time goes by really fast, huh, Dashi?"
"Y-Yeah...It really does." he replied, scratching the back of his head bashfully.
Turning around, I waved. "Well, it's already time for dinner. My parents are probably waiting. Good night, Dashi-"
"-Ah, wait." he said, grabbing my hand, making me turn around to face him.
I raised an eyebrow and gave a puzzled look. "What is it?"
"Are you still going to that hill tomorrow?" he asked.
Placing a hand on my hip, I answered, "Of course! I'm really serious about it."
"Really, you." he said, frowning. "You'll get tired of doing that, eventually."
"Uh-huh. Watch me. I only got one more week left!" I said, sticking out my tongue. After that, I ran towards our house, leaving a certain Tadashi Hamada to watch me go with sullen eyes.

Days later, I've proven my childhood friend wrong by keeping true to my word and going to that hill every day. Tadashi would also be there, since he insists that it's dangerous for me to walk home by myself. Everyday, I'd be excited to look at the beautiful view that the sky of San Fransokyo has to offer me, along with the hidden belief of that certain rumour. Even if Tadashi was still disapproving of my purpose for doing so, we still enjoyed the fun conversations we had on the way home. It was quite a fun way to feel each other's presence, but our daily routine was about to come to an end.
It was the last day for my "good luck chant".
Tadashi and I arrived at the park earlier than usual. The moped was sent to a repair shop because of one of Hiro's pranks gone wrong, much to Tadashi's dismay. That's why I decided to head over here a little earlier, so as not to miss the sunset. The sky, however, was not working well with my wishes.
When we left SFIT, the sky was pretty clear and sunny...but when we got to the park, the weather changed pretty quickly.
"(Name), are you sure you don't want to head home now? It might rain soon, and we don't have an umbrella." Tadashi asked.
Frowning, I shook my head. "Dashi, it's the last day. I'm not giving up on this."
"Oh, c'mon, (Name). Don't be so stubborn. Let's head home before it rai-" before Tadashi could even finish his sentence, raindrops started pouring down on us. Grabbing my hand, he spoke, "See what I mean? Let's go."
Breaking free from his grasp, I looked at him with frustrated eyes. "No, I can't. I just-I just have to go there!" I told him before quickly dashing off towards the hill up ahead, not turning back even if I heard my childhood friend calling out to me.
"What am I doing? ....I don't know anymore." I thought to myself.

Minutes later, I arrived at that particular hilltop I knew all too well. Rain was still pouring hard, but I didn't care, even if my clothes were already drenched.
I stared up at the dark sky above. How will I even know if it's sunset now? Sighing, I walked over to a nearby tree and sat under it, getting at least a little shelter from the rain. Hugging my legs and placing my chin on my knees, I blankly gazed at the city of San Fransokyo below. In so many years that have passed, it didn't feel like the city changed at all. The streets, the buildings, the park...the whole place was still the same as when I moved here. It didn't bother me that much...but what did bother me was the change in the people.
It wasn't Aunt Cass, or Hiro, or our other friends...
...It was me and Tadashi.
When we were little, we were almost inseparable. We always spent time with each other and didn't have a care in the world of what others said about us, as along as we were together.
But as we grew up and became teenagers, we slowly started to drift apart from the relationship we had as kids. Tadashi started growing taller than me, began taking advanced classes, and even passed SFIT a year before I did. He was already working on his Robotics project, while I was still taking Computer Programming 101. I got along with his friends like, Honey Lemon or Go Go, but I also had my own set of friends, too. It was like, Tadashi and I had our own separate worlds.
So many things had changed between us, it even went to a point where we were embarrassed to be seen together because we were teased a lot in high school. Though we both started to think more rationally and maturely when we got to college, and Tadashi and I were spending time together again, it still wasn't the same as it used to be.
Sometimes, it makes me think...that maybe being childhood friends...wasn't that easy at all.
It can make you feel awkward,
embarrassed,
aware,
and afraid
of what could happen to your relationships when change starts taking over.
Thinking about those things, I couldn't help but give a shaky breath and cover my face with my hands. I was so caught up in it that I didn't notice the presence of someone stepping beside me. "Unbelievable. This is why I can never leave you alone." I heard a familiar voice say as I felt something placed on top of my head. I brought my hands up to take it and see what it was.
A San Fransokyo Ninjas baseball cap.
Looking up, I saw chocolate-coloured orbs gazing down at me. It was Tadashi. His raven hair was really in a mess, since it was drenched in rain, along with his whole outfit. What made my heart skip a beat was that warm smile that felt so nostalgic.
It was the same smile he gave me when we first met.
"...Dashi..." I smiled at him, lips trembling.
Holding out his hand to help me stand up, he spoke, "Look, (Name)...I'm sorry if I upset you... I knew that you were really serious and determined about this...and all I could do was show disbelief. Sorry. I can see now how much it means to you."
"It's alright. It was my fault for being too desparate about that rumour, too." I told him as I accepted his help and stood up.
Ruffling my already dishevelled hair, he winked, "Nah, it's just a 'good luck chant', remember?"
I couldn't help but smile. "Now, c'mon, let's go." he said, pointing over at the hilltop.
"Oh, but Dashi, it's-" I paused when I looked up at the sky. It already cleared up, and it was starting to become orange in colour. The sun was setting.
The two of us walked quietly up the hill. Once we were at the top, I was amazed at the breathtaking view of the San Fransokyo sky during sunset.
I have seen this kind of view for the past thirty days now; what made it so different and so beautiful from the days before?
Maybe it was the fact that Tadashi was beside me, not sulking somewhere in the park...or...
...maybe...it was because I finally gathered the last bit of courage I needed.
Hearing Tadashi clear his throat to get my attention, I turned to face him.
"So...who's this guy you fell for? Is he from your Programming class or something?
...I'll help you out." he told me, a smile obviously forced on his face.
Taking a deep breath, I grabbed his hand and spoke,
"I fell in love...
...with you."
Upon hearing my words, Tadashi's face couldn't help but heat up as he looked at me with wide eyes. "For ten whole years, I've wanted to tell you the same thing. I love you, (Name)." he confessed, smiling.
Feeling tears trickle down my cheeks, I smiled back at him. "I love you, too, Dashi."
=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=
"....And that's how your father and I confessed to each other!" I said proudly, looking at my two adorable kids.
My eleven year old daughter, (daughter's name), sighed dreamily. "Wow, that's really romantic, mommy!" she told me as she was brushing her hair.
"Uh, no it isn't! It's really cheesy. Gross, blegh." my seven year old son retorted, playing with his toy robots.
I laughed, placing a hand on my hip, "You've been spending way too much time with your Uncle Hiro, mister."
(Son's name) shook his head. "But Uncle Hiro's really cool and he actually shares his gummy bears with me!"
"So that's why Baymax told me you're starting to get cavities." a certain raven haired man entered the room.
The kids happily ran to him and hugged...er, tackled him. "Daddy!" they exclaimed. Tadashi picked up the two energetic kids and spun them around playfully, earning giggles from the them.
"Alright, alright. It's time for bed, you two." he told them. They followed, bidding us goodnight. Turning off the light in their room, Tadashi and I walked back to our bedroom.
"So, you told them that story, huh?" he asked, smiling at the memory.
Squeezing his hand, I replied, "Well, it was (d/n) who asked me to, so I did."
"That reminds me, we need to get up early tomorrow." he told me.
I looked at him with a curious expression, "Why?"
"Because we're going to a certain hilltop at San Fransokyo Park. A picnic with the kids sounds nice, don't you think?" he said, giving me that adorkable smile I always loved.
Chuckling, I nodded. "As you long as you remember to bring umbrellas, Mr. Hamada."
He pressed his lips on my forehead, then gazed upon my (eye colour) eyes with his chocolate-coloured ones, "Will do, Mrs. Hamada."

((A/N: I actually like the song a whole lot. It just...feels so real. Okay, maybe not the confessing at sunset part—the "my childhood friend is changing and I don't think I like it" part is what I meant. I think everyone has that friend they've spent so much time together...but ended up drifting apart. Change is really a scary thing to deal with among friends, especially if it's a friend that you've felt like you've known since forever. To make things worse, it could also be a friend that you ended up falling for. It's those kinds of things that people worry about that make the song and the story to it feel so real.
The ending is also cliche, I guess xD But eh. Who cares? lol. I mean, you've got two adorable kids....and a perfect husband known as Tadashi Hamada that loves you and your kids-and most of all...is alive and well :P Ha. Ain't no SFIT fire to remember in this fic people. In this fanfic world, that never happened...so er, maybe it's considered an AU. Whatever....he lives! He livessss and that's what matters! >:3
Well, that's it for now! Thanks for reading! <3))
