Big Fat Liar
The blue eyes couldn’t stop staring into the mirror at himself. Seeing himself in a suit still surprises him. The fact he’s about to get married in a few moments make his nerves flare. His pale fingers run through his brown hair and then tap on the vanity of Jonathan’s grandmother. His nails are painted a pitch black, like his tux. The electric blue bow tie makes his eyes stand out, along with the eyeliner his sister added earlier. The tie is the same one Evan got him for his 32nd birthday; it’s also the one he wore when Evan proposed to him. Jonathan’s eyes wonder outside to the beautiful field of sunflowers his grandmother owns and wear he’s about to be united with his love for the rest of his life. His mind runs wild like the sunflowers; how did the clown get so lucky? Evan’s the sweetest thing on Earth and Jonathan is the most stubborn, but Evan could be sometimes as well. Jonathan has lied to Evan multiple times… Jonathan’s lied to himself; about his feelings. Jonathan himself is a big fat liar. Jonathan didn’t love himself before because he couldn’t love anybody; it was because nobody showed him how to love himself. Evan Fong came into the rescue, even though he said multiple times, “Delirious doesn’t need someone else to show him that he’s amazing and very attractive.”
Speaking of big fat liars, Evan would be one if he said he isn’t nervous at this very moment. Behind these wooden doors sat multiple friends and family of both Dennis and Fong. They would watch Evan with his parents and then Jonathan with his. His heart couldn’t take it; too many emotions were overflowing his mind. Vows. Remember. Evan spent hours writing them and then memorizing them. Suddenly the door swings open and Brock peeks his head out, “It’s go time my man.” Brock hugs him tightly before sneaking back in. Evan takes a deep breath, exhales, and releases all the crazy thoughts from his head.
Jonathan’s mother pulls him from his grandmother’s bedroom and leads him to the back doors, which were already opened. Jonathan’s heart nearly jumps out of his chest.
Evan’s black dress shoes make the slightest crunch noise in the grass. He steps in time with the music playing over the speakers inside Grandma Dennis’s house. Before he knows it, he’s standing under the arc of tied sunflowers. The smell abates his anxiety a bit. As soon as he meets those blue eyes though, all fear floods out of him, like Jonathan is the quiet before a storm. The smile that appears across his face makes Evan’s knees weak as he smiles back.
His hands are very soft and cold to the touch of Evan’s hands. Jonathan rubs the knuckles of the tan hands. A smile connects them both as they listen to their last minute priest Tyler Wine. “Through sickness and hell, whoops, I mean health…” everyone chuckles at the pig as he joins the couple in his own way. “You may now kiss the dork!” Tyler slams the book shut at throws his hands in the air as the two move in for a kiss. Evan’s hand runs up Jonathan’s neck and up through his sweet smelling hair.
Evan and Jonathan run into the sunflower field as everyone else rushes to get food. Their hands hold on tight to each other as they swing back and forth through the field. Jonathan chuckles as Evan nearly trips over something. Soon they both tumble into a patch of sunflowers. Their laughter echoes throughout the flowers. They lay together, their hands still together and smiles still plastered on their faces. The only difference is the fact both of their hands now had a ring on their fingers.
The cake is now cut by Jonathan. He snickers before smashing the cake into Evan’s face. The guest erupt in laughter as Evan takes the same piece slipping off his face and smashes it into Jonathan’s. Luckily their suits were both owned and not rented.
A few songs into the reception and Jonathan is handed his newborn niece. Remember that surprise Samuel and Megan were supposed to have for Jonathan? This tiny baby is the surprise; little Cassie. He swings around with her as Billy Joel plays over the speakers. Evan watches from a distance smiling. Delirious’s face is full of joy as his thumb his grabbed by Cassie. She giggles when he makes silly faces and sings in a weird voice. A sudden warmth bursts through Evan’s chest as he watches his newly wed play with his niece; a newborn. Thoughts swarm the brain of the owl, making him blush on the outside.
People wave and kiss the couple goodbye as they start toward the new jeep of Jonathan’s. He’s clear to drive. He suddenly picks up Evan bridal style and walks the rest of the way toward the blue vehicle. Jonathan turns around one last time for them both to wave to their friends and family. Delirious places Vanoss down so he can get in himself.
They wave one last goodbye before Jonathan starts their new beginning at Toronto, Canada, together.
Life will get better.
Even if you’re fat.
Skinny.
Gay.
Straight.
Someone will see you one day and try their damnedest to get to know you or to just be with you.
Some people just get that person sooner than others.
Be patient.
An Evan will come tumbling along to you.
They’ll show you that your stretch marks are the best thing about you.
Your teeth are perfect the way they are.
Your eye color is the best in the whole world.
The way you sleep is adorable.
The way you smile nearly kills them every time you do.
You will be loved, and I’d be called a big fat liar if I said no one will ever love you.

The End
