so what's it about?

Vesper knows that if she were ever to be reaped into the Hunger Games, she wouldn't leave much behind in District Six. That is, until Icarus Brunel's name is called. The little boy of only thirteen years who wouldn't hurt a single soul. She could never let him die. Taking on a sisterly role, Vesper makes it her mission to do what she can to protect Icarus for as long as she can, and return him home safely.

But in the arena, when faced with survival, trained killers and the prospect of death, Vesper's objective is easier said than done...

personal notes:

— This is the first of Imogen's stories that I've read, and WHEW, it has absolutely blown me away so far. The worldbuilding of District Six is phenomenal. I love how she expands on an area of Panem that was not shown in the original series. Her descriptions are *chef's kiss*

— Characters !!!! Vesper is my daughter and I want to love and protect her forever, but alas, I know Imogen has other, rougher plans for her throughout the book. Because it is The Hunger Games universe and no character can go without terrible suffering.

— The secondary characters are brilliantly fleshed out, which makes the story so much more realistic. Sometimes you'll read a book and find the other characters to serve no purpose or just fall flat. This isn't the case in any of her books. Each character serves a purpose and is jam-packed with so much life that it feels like you're reading about real people.

— This book with RIP your heart out and eat it for breakfast. I'm only on chapter five (I know, I suck) and I've already genuinely cried my eyes out.

— The time and effort that Imogen has put into this book is obvious. It's truly a work of art!!
