Tinge of Jealousy

Dev and Anna rushed to the local police station with the goal of solving the mystery surrounding the airport event. The air carried the faint sounds of conversations mixed with a sense of formality as they walked in. To their surprise, the person behind the desk raised his head and it was Inspector Ram's well-known face staring back at them.

Anna (smiling): Ram,kya main sahi hoon? Meri manana hai ki hum pehle hi mil chuke hain(am I correct? I believe we have already met. )

Ram (nodding): Aap parichit lagate hain. Ruko, Anna! Tumhe phir se dekh kar bahut acha laga! Main kis tarah se aapaki sahayata kar sakata hoon(You seem to be familiar. Hold on, Anna! It's great to see you again! In what way may I assist you?)

Despite everything going on, Anna found some solace in knowing that Inspector Ram was the same person from the previous rescue attempt.

Anna (smiling): Inspector Ram,main aapko apaharan ke us din ki yaad dilata hoon. Aapane hamen jeevit rakha(I recall you from that day of the kidnapping. You kept us alive.)

Ram (recalling): Haan yah sach hai. Apaharan ki ghatana. Main ise kaise bhool sakata hoon? Baad mein mujhe Edward ki dukhad durghatna ke baare mein pata chala. Meri sahanubhuti, Anna(Yes, that's true. The event of kidnapping. How could I forget it? It was later that I learned of Edward's tragic accident. My sympathies, Anna)

Anna nodded appreciatively, moved by his empathy. Dev plunged into the chat, ready to report on the recent occurrences.

Dev (serious): Ram,hamen aapaka aavashyakta hoga. Airport par, hum par koi goli chala raha tha. Hum nahi jante ki aisa kyon hai(we're gonna need you. At the airport, we were being shot at by someone. We are clueless as to why.)

Ram (concerned): Shooting? Airport par? Yah gambheer hai. Mujhe sab kuch bata(Shooting? At the airport? This is serious. Tell me everything.)

A realization hit Dev like a flash of lightning as he and Inspector Ram dug into the details of the shooting incident. As the puzzle pieces appeared to fit together, a disturbing suspicion began to grow in his mind.

Dev (thoughtfully): Ek second ruken... kya aapako lagata hai ki unhone socha ki main Edward,  hoon, Ram(Hold on a second... Do you suppose that they thought I was Edward, Ram?)

Ram (raising an eyebrow): Edward?Ve aisa kyon karenge( Why would they...?)

Dev (interrupting): Ram,meri taraf dekho. Main vaastav mein bilkul had tak Edward jaisa dikhata hoon. Kya hoga yadi unhone mujhe vah samajha(look at me. I really do look a lot like Edward. What if they thought me to be him?)

With a puzzled brow, Anna had been following the talk, and suddenly she felt a wave of astonishment and uncertainty.

Anna (stammering): Edward?Tum kya baat kar rahe ho, Dev(What are you talking about, Dev?)

Dev (looking at Anna): Is par vichaar karo, Anna. Jis tarah se ve hamaara peechha kar rahe the, hamala kar rahe the. Aisa lag raha tha maano ve kisi khaas aadami ke peechhe ja rahe hon. Kya hoga yadi ve mujh par vishwas karen ki main Edward hoon(Consider it, Anna. The attacking, the way they were pursuing us. It seemed like they were going after a particular man. What if they believed me to be Edward?)

Anna (shocked): Lekin ve Edward ko nishaana kyon banaenge? Vah... vah ab jeevit nahi hai(But why would they target Edward? He's... he's no longer alive.)

Dev (pondering): Shaayad unaki raay alag ho. Shaayad unaka maanana hai ki Edward ne apani maut ka naatak racha tha. Yah hamaari apeksha se adhik kathin ho sakata hai(Perhaps they have a different opinion. Perhaps they believe Edward faked his own death. This might be harder than we expected)

As the truth continued to sink in, Inspector Ram interjected with a mixture of interest and worry.

Ram (analyzing): Hamen yah jaanane ki jaroorat hai ki agar aisa hai to ve aisa kyon vyavaharkar rahe hain maano Edward abhi bhi jeevit hai. Aur yah unaki prerana ko samajha sakata hai agar unhe laga ki Dev hi vah hai(We need to know why they're acting as though Edward is still alive, if that's the case. And it could explain their motivation if they thought Dev was him.)

There was a difference in Dev and Anna's opinions on Edward's death after it became clear that the mysterious attackers might think he was still alive. Up until now, Anna had continued believing that Edward's death had been an unfortunate accident. But Dev sensed something more sinister lurking there.

Anna (confused): Koi kyon vishwaas karega ki Edward abhi bhi jeevit hai, Dev? Yah ek durghatna thi jisane unaki jaan le li(Why would anyone believe Edward is still alive, Dev? It was an accident that claimed his life.)

Dev (gravely): Durghatanaen hoti rahati hain, Anna, lekin kya Edward ki maut ko taala ja sakata tha? Kya ye hatya ho sakati thi(Accidents do happen, Anna, but could Edward's death have been avoided? Could it have been murder?)

Shocked by this suggestion, Anna glanced at Dev with a mix of fear and shock.

Anna (hesitant): Hatya? Haalaanki, Dev, jaanch se pata chala ki yah ek durghatana thi. Kisi ko Edward ko maarane ki ichchha kyon ho sakati hai(Murder? However, Dev, the investigation determined that it was an accident. What could make someone wish to kill Edward?)

Dev (intently): Yahi hamen khojana chaahiye. Koi kaaran hoga ki ve sochate hain ki Edward abhi bhi jeevit hai, aur isaka kuch sambandh is baat se bhi ho sakata hai ki unhone hamen airport par akele kyon chuna(That's what we must discover. There must be a reason why they think Edward is still alive, and it could have something to do with why they singled us out at the airport.)

As they discussed the chances that Edward's death was a murder, Anna found herself struggling with a tidal surge of emotions. The stark possibility that Edward's life may have been cut short by foul play conflicted with the image of the man she had loved and considered her soulmate.

Anna (visibly shaken): Koi Edward par hamala kyon karna chahta hai? Vah pyaar karane vaala, dekhbhal karane vaala aur dayaalu tha. Dev, isaka koi matalab nahi hai. Main usase tahe dil se pyaar karata tha(What makes someone want to attack Edward? He was loving, caring, and kind. Dev, it doesn't make sense. I loved him wholeheartedly.)

The room echoed with Anna's disbelief, and the weight of the news threw a cloud over their shared past with Edward. Seeing that Anna was upset, Dev put a consoling hand on her shoulder.

Dev (softly): Haan, Anna, mujhe pata hai. Ise samajhana kathin hai. Lekin hamen sabhi sambhaavanaon ko dhyaan mein rakhana chaahiye. Yadi koi sambhavna hai ki usaki maut ki yojana banai gai thi to sachchai ka pata lagaana Edward ke prati hamaara daayitv hai(Yes, Anna, I know. It's difficult to understand. But we must take all possibilities into consideration. We have an obligation to Edward to find out the truth if there's a possibility that his death was planned.)

Upon entering Malhotra Industries, Dev and Anna were greeted by a lively environment filled with business activity. The air filled with the sound of phones ringing, discussions buzzing, and keyboard clicks. For Anna, the office—a location that Dev used to know so well—was suddenly a foreign place.

Dev's old college friend Aarush stood out amid the crowd and was clearly excited to see Dev.

Aarush (enthusiastically): Dev! Yaar, bahut din ho gaye! Apani or dekho, khel mein wapas. Tum kaise ho(Man, it's been ages! Look at you, back in the game. How've you been?)

Briefly taken aback by the fervor of the greeting, Dev struck up a conversation with Aarnush. Anna watched the conversation, still processing the news that Edward might have been killed, and feeling alienated in this corporate environment.

Dev (smiling): Aarush, aapako bhi dekh kar acha laga. Main kuch samay ke liye door tha, lekin ab wapas aa gaya hoon(good to see you too. I've been away for a while, but I'm back now.)

Aarush (curious): Ache ke liye wapas aaya? Hum yahaan aapake dimaag vaale kisi vyakti ka upayog kar sakate hain. Mera matalab hai, bas is jagah ko dekho. Bahut kuch badal gaya hai(Back for good? We could use someone with your brains around here. I mean, just look at this place. So much has changed.)

The inaugural meeting of Fresh was in progress while Malhotra Industries was abuzz with corporate activity. Amid a sea of ideas and possibility, Dev, navigating the corporate terrain, and Anna, still getting used to this strange world, found themselves.

Anna (excitedly): Yadi hum vartaman vicharo ko paramparik prathaon ke saath shaamil kar len to kya hoga? Hum apani virasat ka sammaan karane vaali vastuon ko banane ke liye tikaoo aur jaivik ghatakon ka upayog kar sakate hain, sabhi stylish, samkaleen designs mein pack kie gae hain. Vaastav mein, dono duniyaon mein sarvashreshth(What if we incorporate current ideas with traditional practices? We can use sustainable and organic components to create items that honor our heritage, all packaged in stylish, contemporary designs. The finest of both worlds, indeed!)

Aarush gave Anna a warm grin and held out a hand during the introductions.

Aarush: Pleasure to meet you. Aarush Rajput

Anna (smiling): Isi tarah, Aarush. Mera naam Anna Kuruvilla hai(Likewise, Aarush. My name is Anna Kuruvilla)

Anna experienced a hint of complications when she uttered her name. Being a Kuruvilla instead of a Malhotra had come with its own baggage, and not having a title made her question who she was. She had once been Anna Malhotra, but life had changed the story she told herself.

In the quiet that ensued, Anna struggled to answer the question of her current identity. The name that had once been a part of her identity, Kattadi, seemed like a faraway memory. With the divorce, a chapter on Malhotra was closed, and although she retained the name Kuruvilla, it didn't properly convey the essence of her journey.

Anna (reflective): Kuruvilla...mainne kuch samay se apni parichay nahi diya hai. Main kabhi-kabhi sawal karti hoon ki main kaun ban gaya hoon(I haven't introduced myself in a while. I sometimes question who I have become.)

Even though Dev had expertise in business, he couldn't help but feel somewhat hurt when Anna revealed that she was Anna Kuruvilla instead of Anna Malhotra.

Dev (whispering to Anna): Anna, apne Malhotra, kyon nahi kaha? Aap mere parivaar, is pariwar ke sadasya the. Maine socha(Why didn't you say Malhotra, Anna? You were a member of my family, this family. I thought...)

Anna possessed a mesmerizing beauty that attracted everyone's attention, especially Aarnush. Her face was a delicate blend of power and grace, each feature enhancing the other to make her a powerful presence.

Anna had deep, expressive eyes with a bright almond shape and long, dark lashes that brought out the depth of her emotions. Her gaze took on a mysterious charm due to the deep hue of her eyes, which appeared to change in accordance with her emotions. Her tastefully arched brows added to the sense of refinement by balancing the symmetry of her face.

Soft and flawlessly shaped, Anna's lips had a natural rosiness that suggested life within. She had a rare attractive smile, her lips curving into an expression that held a subtle blend of mystery and warmth.

Dev was engulfed by a tornado of contradictory feelings as Aarnush and Anna kept interacting. Though innocent on the surface, Aarnush's and Anna's relationship made him feel quite jealous. Even with the bitterness from their history, Dev felt an unanticipated twinge of possessiveness when he realized someone else could have her time and attention.

Dev (internal monologue): Yah mujhe kyon pareshan karata hai? Mujhe ab usaki chinta nahi hai. Haalaanki, vah mere jeevan ka pyaar thi. Kya ab mujhe bhi... paravaah hai? Yah sambhav nahi hai(Why does it bother me? I don't worry about her anymore. However, she was the love of my life. Do I even... care anymore? It is not possible.)

During their casual get-together, Anna began to reveal bits and pieces of her complex life story, illuminating the mosaic of events that had molded her into the person she was today. As the discussion progressed, Dev, who was seeing them from a distance, couldn't help but feel both curious and uneasy.

Anna (smiling): Tumhe pata hai, Aarush, maine jeevan ka safar kaafi utaar-chadhav bhara raha hai. Meri aajeevan pyaar, Edward, isaki shuruaat thi. Hum pehli baar airport par mile, jahaan khushi aur hansi hamare nirantar saathi the(You know, Aarush, I've had quite the wild ride through life. My lifelong love, Edward, was the beginning of it. We first met at the airport, where joy and laughter were our constant companions.)

She went into detail about how she ran away from a wedding, found Rahul, and ultimately made the confession that brought her and Edward together. Once her laughter partner, the Bollywood star had now become an important part of her history.

Anna (reflective): Edward Bollywood ke bahut bade star the. Hamane saath milkar pyaar aur hansi-mazaak se bhari ek duniya banayi, aur jab main Anna Kattadi thi tab bhi vah mujhse pyaar karata tha(was a huge Bollywood star. We created a world full of love and laughter together, and he loved me even when I was Anna Kattadi.)

The topic of discussion turned to the tumultuous moments after Edward's terrible departure, the sorrow, and the emptiness he left behind.

Anna (with a touch of sadness): Edward ke baad jindagi  bhool bhulaiya jaisi ho gai. Jaise hi maine sambhalne ka prayaas kiya, main Dev se takara gaya. Sabase pahale, usane mujhe dukh dayi roop se Edward ki yaad dilai, lekin samay ke saath, vah mera dost aur vishwas pathar ban gaya(Life turned like a maze after Edward. As I made an effort to recover, I ran into Dev. At first, he reminded me painfully of Edward, but over time, he grew to be my friend and confidant.)

Anna described how her friendship with Dev developed from their first arguments and forced marriage to a growing bond that finally turned into love.

Anna (with a smile): Main Dev ke saath bahut kuch jhel chuki hoon. Hamaare tarkon aur kathinaiyon ke bawajood, antatah hum ek-doosare ko sveekaar karane lage. Hum anichchuk bhaagi daar se athmeeya saathi ban gaye(I went through so much with Dev. Despite our arguments and hardships, we eventually came to accept one another. We went from being unwilling partners to soulmates.)

Anna (nostalgic): Isake baad hamaari rajakumaari Jhanvi aur Lynette Lynette  Chachi aur meri beti Janu ki dil dahala dene vaali maut ki kahaani aai. Zindagi khushi aur dard ka mishran hai, Aarush, hai na? Yahaan main ek nae charan mein pravesh karane ka prayas kar raha hoon. Choonki jeevan apratyaashit hai, hum jo bhi kadam uthaye hain vah hamen us vyakti mein dhaalata hai jaisa ham banana chahte hain(Next came the story of Jhanvi, our princess, and the heartbreaking deaths of Aunty Lynette and my daughter Janu. Life is a mosaic of happiness and pain, Aarush, isn't it? Here I am, trying to navigate a new phase. Because life is unexpected, every step we take molds us into the people we are destined to be.)

A wave of emotions swept over Dev as he watched Anna share the detailed chapters of her life with Aarnush. His history, intertwined with hers, played out in front of him like a moving story.

Dev (whispering to himself): Vah hamaari poori kahaani bata rahi hai, jismen sabhi mod aur badlaav shaamil hain. Edward, bollywood celebrity, Happy Club, aur main, humshakal. Vah kya kar rahi hai, is tarah hamaare ateet ko ujaagar kar rahi hai(She's telling our whole story, all the turns and turns included. Edward, the Bollywood celebrity,Happy Club, and myself, the lookalike. What is she doing, exposing our past in this way?)

Dev (reflecting): Use yah sab zor se kahate hue sunane ke baad, mujhe ehasaas hua ki main vaastav mein har adhyaay se parichit nahin tha. Har cheez ko phir se jeena vaisa hi mahasoos hota hai. Hamaari daleelen, jabaran milan, hamaari dosti aur hamaara pyaar. Sab kuch maujood hai. Vah hamaare baare mein baat kar rahi hai. Mere baare mein. Ho sakata hai... ho sakata hai ki isamen jitana maine socha tha usase kaheen adhik kuch ho(Having heard her say it all aloud, I realized that I wasn't really familiar with every chapter. Reliving everything is how it feels. Our arguments, the forced union, our friendship, and our love. Everything is present. She's talking about us. About me. Maybe... maybe there's more to this than I thought. )

Aarush was deeply impacted by Anna's story because of the depth of her hardships and the tenacity she showed. Aarush was moved by Anna's story, which revealed her fragility, and he felt compelled to offer her comfort and support.

Aarush (gentle): Anna, mujhe ehsaas hi nahi hua ki aapane itana kuch dekh liya hai. Is tarah ki baadhaon ko door karane ke liye asaadhaaran saahas ki avashyakta hoti hai. Main aapaki bahaduri ki prashansa karata hoon(I didn't realize you'd seen so much. It takes extraordinary courage to overcome obstacles like this. I admire your bravery.)

He gives her a powerful embrace. Unbeknownst to Aarush, Dev was experiencing a wave of emotions while observing from a distance. The image of someone else comforting Anna and closing the distance between them evoked a complicated mixture of remorse, jealousy, and a tinge of longing.

Dev (muttering to himself): Yah mujhe kyon pareshaan karata hai? Mujhe paravaah nahi karani chaahiye. Vah aage badh chuki hai. Lekin...vah ab bhi meri patni hai. Damn it! (Why does it bother me? I shouldn't care. She's moved on. But... she's still my wife. Damn it.)

A few days later:

There was an anxious silence in the room as Dev and Anna got ready to view the security footage that had been retrieved from the bike's camera. A variety of emotions were present in the air, all of them expecting the revelation of a long-hidden truth.

Anna (whispering): Isase pata chal sakata hai ki vaastav mein Edward ke saath kya hua tha(This might reveal what really happened to Edward)

Dev nodded, his heart aching but resolute. The video started, and the room was filled with Edward's mysterious Dil Se Tere song. Anna watched with softened eyes, a sorrowful smile playing on her lips as her late husband radiated happiness.

Edward (on video, humming):  ♪ "Dil Se Tere..." ♪

The action moved to the parking lot of the mall, when Edward's joyful journey took a dark turn. A minister and police officers were seen on tape having a strange exchange. Dev's eyebrows rose upward in suspicion as he sensed that the story was about to get dark.

Minister (on video, speaking on the phone): Main is yojana ka samarthan nahi karoonga. Yah galat hai(I won't support this plan. It's wrong.)

A terrifying act of betrayal resulted from the conspirators' annoyance over the refusal. The calmness of the video was broken by gunfire. Anna's jaw dropped open in horror as the minister was taken advantage of by the evil scheme.

Anna (whispering, horrified): Nahi, ye nahi ho sakata(No, this can't be...)

Then the screen showed Edward, hiding from fright. As the pursuit continued, the camera caught the frantic flee as bullets flew by. Anna felt her heartbeat quicken in time with the intensity of the picture.

Dev (watching intently): Come on, Edward. You can make it.

But destiny had other plans. The moment was unavoidable as the attackers drew closer. Edward jumped from the bridge after being hit by a fatal bullet. Anna's eyes widened with shock and horror, her breath stuck in her throat.

As the terrifying conclusion of the video approached, the room fell silent. Dev was engrossed in the tragedy that was developing and felt a sense of impending doom as Edward took the final gunshot. The bullet's visceral impact was shown on the screen, brutally capturing the moment.

It felt as though time had stopped for a moment because of the tension in the air. A deep stillness descended upon the situation as the grim truth took hold of the room. For those who saw the video's disclosure, the sight of Edward with blood all over his heart would never fade.

Edward (on video, gasping): I'm so sorry... I love you, Anna... and my Khushi.

Anna felt the knowledge as strongly as she would have a physical blow. Tears were streaming down her face when Dev noticed how distressed she was and ran out to calm her.

Anna (breaking down): Yah koi sanyog nahi tha. Dev, unhone use maar daala(It was not a coincidence. Dev, they killed him)

You could feel how deeply devastated Anna was as the news finally sank in. The happy club's energetic leader, Edward, was now a victim of a vicious plot. The injustice of it all made Anna's heart hurt, and she couldn't understand why someone would put an end to the light of a man who was so lively and kind-hearted.

(Guys! I understand, and I am sorry if this is causing you all to cry as well. I can feel it too. Edward will live on in our hearts forever.)

Anna (voice trembling): Ve kaise kar sakate the? Vah bahuton ke liie khushiyan lekar aaya, Dev. Vah Happy Club ka dil tha, aur ab... unhone use hamase cheen liya(How could they? He brought happiness to so many, Dev. He was the heart of the Happy Club, and now... they took him away from us.)

The pain in Anna's voice reverberated across the room as she attempted to come to terms with the truth of Edward's death. Her remarks had the weight of a great loss as her anguish, a pure and honest feeling, came out.

Anna (whispering): Kaash, kaash yah main hota, vah nahi. Use kyon maara(I wish, I wish it was me, not him. Why did kill him?)

Seeing the overwhelming suffering in Anna's voice, Dev wrapped her into a comforting embrace. His arms encircled her, offering peace amongst an unexplainable catastrophe. Gently, he wiped her tears, a nonverbal sign of compassion and understanding amid their mutual loss.

Dev (softly): Haan, Anna, mujhe pata hai. Yah mere liye bhi samajh se badhakar hai. Haalaanki, aap akele nahi hain. Hum is par kaaboo paane ke liye milakar kaam karenge(Yes, Anna, I know. It surpasses understanding for me as well. You're not alone, though. We'll work together to overcome this.)
