Shattered
The weight of the recent revelations echoed through the car on the drive back home, creating an unsettling calm. Every family member reflected the turbulent events of the retreat, engrossed in their own thoughts.
Rajesh arrived home and, his face serious, announced a family meeting. There was a heavy feeling of unresolved emotions in the room.
Rajesh (addressing the family): Sachchai ka saamna karna hoga aur humein apni karravai ka raasta chunana hoga. Mujhe apane baare mein batao, Dev(The truth must be faced, and we must choose our course of action. Tell me about yourself, Dev.)
The family was waiting for an explanation as they tried to process the shock of Dev's actions.
Dev (hesitant): Maine vichar kiya... mujhe laga ki Anna ke saath apana rishta todana sahi nirnay tha. Yahaan har kisi ke liye(I considered... I felt that parting my relationship with Anna was the right decision. For everyone here.)
Rajesh (disappointed): Dev,aapane aisa chunaav kiya jo aapake saath-saath hum sabhi ko prabhavit karata hai. Choonki hum ek parivaar hain, isalie nirnayon ko ek team ke roop mein manna jaana chaahiye(you made a choice that impacts all of us along with yourself. Since we are a family, decisions should be considered as a team.)
Masoom (angry): Aapane hamase margadarshan maange bina talaak ke dastaavezon par hastaakshar kar die? Anna, usake baare mein kya? Kya aapane is par usaki pratikriya par vichar kiya hai(You signed divorce documents without seeking our guidance? Anna, what about her? Have you considered her reaction to this?)
Dev (regretful): Maine gadbad kar di. Mujhe yah ab pata hai(I messed up. I know that now)
Tension filled the room as Rajesh inhaled deeply before continuing.
Rajesh (firmly): Ab se, Anna meri beti aur beta hai. Vah is parivaar ka hissa hai aur hum aapako usaka dil todne nahi denge(From now on, Anna is my beti and beta. She's a part of this family, and we won't let you break her heart.)
Sitting silently, Anna turned to face Rajesh and thanked him for his help.
Rajesh (declaring): Tum hamari bahu se bhi badhkar ho, Anna. Aap dono hamaare bete aur beti hain. Hamalog aapke saath hain(you're more than just our daughter-in-law, Anna. You are both our son and daughter. We are with you.)
Anna nodded, her eyes welling with tears as she took in Rajesh's remark.
Dev (defiantly): Main ab bhi aap ka beta hoon, Dad(I'm still your son too, Dad)
Rajesh (resolute): Dev, tumane apane krtyon se is parivaar ka anaadar kiya hai. Yadi aap Anna ko apane parivaar mein sveekaar karane mein asamarth hain to shaayad aapake liye parivaar mein apani bhoomika par punarvichar karane ka samay aa gaya hai(By your actions, Dev, you showed disrespect to this family. Maybe it's time for you to reconsider your role in the family if you are unable to accept Anna as your own.)
The family was shocked by the declaration, which lingered heavy in the air. The impact of Rajesh's comments was profound, creating a sharp rift that threatened to change the dynamics of the once united family.
Rajesh (resolute): Dev is kshan se mera beta nahi rahega. Parivaar ke mool moolyon ke saath vishwasghaat ek aisi cheez hai jise main sweekar nahi kar sakata(will no longer be my son from this moment. Betraying the core values of a family is something I cannot accept.)
There was an awkward stillness in the room as each family member struggled to accept Rajesh's rejection.
Anna (shocked): Papa ji,please
Ragini (supportive): Raj,yah bahut gambheer hai. Kya aisa koi tareeka nahi hai jisase hum parivaar ko tode bina kaam chala saken(this is too grave. Is there no way we can work things out without breaking the family up?)
Hoshiyaar (defending Dev): Use asveekaar karana, Papa ji, shaayad bahut door ja raha hoga. Har kisi mein galtiyan hoti hain. Hamen unhe maafi maangane ka mauka dena hoga(Disowning him,Papa ji, might be going too far. Everybody has mistakes. We need to give him an opportunity to apologise.)
Masoom (sympathetic): Dad,log galati karate hain. Shaayad abhi Dev ko hamaari samajh ki jaroorat hai(people make mistakes. Maybe right now, Dev needs our understanding.)
However, those who stood beside Anna gave their support.
Isha (firmly): Anna Bhabhi vartamaan mein hamaare parivaar ka ek sadasy hai. Dev bhaiya ke vyavahar se use barbaad nahi kiya ja sakata(is currently a member of our family. That can't be ruined by Dev's behavior.)
Aarti (with a heavy heart): Anna hamesha mere liye beti ki tarah rahi hoon. Main use isamen akeli rahane dene se inakaar karata hoon(has always been like a daughter to me. I refuse to let her be the only one in this.)
With every second that went by, the room turned into a battlefield of emotions.
Rajesh (adamant): Main apne faisle par kaayam hoon. Jo log Anna ka samarthan karate hain ve mera bhi samarthan karate hain. Un logo ke liye jinhone Dev ko chuna, mujhe aasha hai ki aap phir se sochenge(I stand by my decision. Those who support Anna also support me. For those that chose Dev, I hope you would think again.)
With a mixture of guilt and rebellion, Dev observed the divided faces.
Team Anna:
Rajesh (Father): Though he initially disowned Dev, he stands firmly by Anna's side.
Aarti (Mother): Loves Anna as a daughter and offers her support at the difficult time.
Ragini (Aunty): Expresses worry about the harsh judgment and calls for peace.
Isha (Cousin Sister): Supporters of kindness and giving them another chance.
Tej (Dev's Older Brother):Dismayed by the harshness of his father's choice, stands by Anna.
Sunaina (Dev's Sister-in-law): Joins Team Anna in an effort to find a solution without losing anyone completely.
Ram Uncle (Uncle):Questions the disownment but expresses Rajesh's fears.
Ram Chota (Tej and Sunaina's elder son): Believes that a solution that heals the family will help Anna.
Lakhan (Tej and Sunaina's younger son): Is disturbed by the division among the family and supports Team Anna.
Duggu (Masoom and Hoshiyaar's Son): Influenced by his Maami, loves and supports Anna.
Team Dev:
Dev (The central character): He struggles with his own behavior but receives help from some family members.
Masoom (Sister): Decides to support her brother in spite of the seriousness of his actions.
Raj (Dev's Brother-in-law): Feels conflicted about understanding Dev's perspective and remaining loyal to family.
Deep (Brother-in-law): Loves Anna yet stands behind Dev,his best friend.
The shock of being rejected and the heated meeting with his father becoming too much for Dev to handle, he rushed out of the mansion. The sound of his bitter fight with Rajesh echoed in his head as he prepared to leave.
Dev (shouting): Dad,tum mere liye sab kuch the! Aap aisa kaise kar pa rahe hai(you were everything to me! How are you able to do this?)
Having made up his mind, Rajesh watched Dev go, his heart aching from the broken connection.
Rajesh (strained): Dev,kabhi-kabhi aapako kathin chunaav karana padata hai(sometimes you have to make difficult choices.)
Dev's thoughts drifted to the countless recollections of times when he and his father were inseparable as he strolled through the dimly illuminated streets.
Flashback: Dev's Childhood
When Dev was young and he was playing catch in the backyard with his father, he laughed a lot.
Young Dev (excited): You're the best, Dad!Jab main bada ho jaoonga to bilkul tumhaare jaisa banana chahta hoon(When I grow up, I want to be just like you.)
Rajesh (smiling): Aur tum banoge, mere ladake. Aap jo chahe vo ban sakate hain(And you will be, my boy. You can be anything you want.)
Flashback: Dev's Teenage Years
Now a teenager, Dev and his father would talk late into the night about life, dreams, and everything in between.
Teenage Dev (grinning): Dad,aap sirf ek pita nahi hain; tum mere sabse ache dost ho(you're not just a father; you're my best friend.)
Rajesh (patting his shoulder): Aur, Dev, tum mere bete ho. Chaahe kuch bhi ho hum ek doosre ka samarthan karenge(And, Dev, you're my son. We'll support one another no matter what.)
Flashback: Dev's College Graduation
Rajesh gave Dev a strong hug as he received his college degree, beaming with pride.
Dev (grateful): Aapake bina, Dad, inamen se kuch bhi sambhav nahi hota(Without you, Dad, none of this would have been possible.)
Rajesh (teary-eyed): Dev,aapane ek mahaan kaam kiya hai. Seedhe shabdon mein kahen to, main aapaka Dad bana kar sammanit mahasoos kar raha hoon(you did a great job. Simply said, I'm honored to be your dad.)
Present: Streets Outside the Mansion
A mixture of hurt, perplexity, and rage engulfed Dev, he whispered to himself as he turned to go.
Dev (whispering): Dad,hum dost the. Maine tumhe sab kuch bata diya. Tum mujhe is tarah kaise chod sakate ho(we were friends. I told you everything. How could you have just abandoned me in this manner?)
Dev found himself sinking into a black hole of hatred as a result of the crushing feelings of disownment, betrayal, and the broken pieces of his family. The one person who was at the center of everything was Anna, the woman he had once loved and who was now causing his world to fall apart.
Dev (angry, to himself): Usaki sab kuch barbaad ho gaya. Jab vo mera jindagi mein aai to sab kuch barbaad ho gaya(Everything was ruined by her. When she entered my life, everything was ruined.)
The storm brewing within Dev was visible on the walls of his room. His hands tightened, and a wave of rage swept through him, causing him to let go of his feelings in a devastating way.
Dev (shouting, as he throws a framed picture off the wall): Damn it, Anna! Tumhe mera sab kuch hona chahiye tha(You were supposed to be my everything!)
Mementos, pictures, and special moments were lost in Dev's mental chaos. Once a haven, the room now reflected his inner turmoil.
Dev (frustrated): Mere us par bharosa karane ke baavajood usane mujhe dhokha diya. Usi ke kaaran mera parivaar toota(She betrayed me despite my trust in her. She's the reason my family broke up!)
Every broken glass fragment and cracked frame mirrored the cracks in Dev's own heart. His once-lovely feelings for Anna had turned into a poisonous hatred motivated by hurt and betrayal.
Dev (angry, pacing): Vah mujhe barbaad nahi kar sakati, main wada karata hoon. Vah jeet nahi paegi(She can't ruin me, I promise. She won't be able to win.)
Dev (bitterly): Jo khushi usane mujhse churai vah usaki nahi hai(The happiness that she stole from me is not hers.)
Anna was filled with great sorrow as she saw the effects of Dev's destructive outburst and the toll it took on the room that previously contained memories of their shared existence. The broken pieces of her heart reflected in the shattered remnants of their life together.
Anna (whispering to herself): Hum kya ban gaye hain(What have we become?)
Anna's eyes filled with tears as she looked around the wreckage. Even though she was sad and angry, she had a strong sense of compassion that longed for a solution to the problems that had broken their lives apart.
Anna (determined): Main isamen akela nahi hoon. Hamen yah pata lagana chaahiye ki ek doosare ke paas vaapas kaise aana hai(I am not alone in this. We must figure out how to get back to one another.)
Anna took a choice in an effort to aid in the healing process and close the distance that had grown between Dev and his family. Not simply as a daughter-in-law, but also as someone trying to reclaim what was taken away, she made the decision to work at Rajesh's office.
Anna thought she could show Rajesh how serious she was about making amends and show how committed she was to the family's well-being by immersing herself in his work world.
Rajesh (surprised): Anna, you want to join the office?
Anna (nodding): Yes,Papa ji. Main yogadaan dena chahta hoon, jo humne khoya hai usake punarnirman mein bhagidari banana chahta hoon(I want to contribute, to be a part of rebuilding what we've lost.)
It was more than just a job decision for her to work alongside Rajesh; it was a symbolic move towards earning back the respect and affection of people who had previously welcomed her into their family.
