Mumbai Ke Liye Taiyaar

Being too lethargic to leave the pleasant room, Edward Kattadi was dozing off under his covers. He was the most popular man in his year and was about to begin his career after his graduation at Assumption College. He was the target of practically every girl's crush, and all the men longed to be friends with him. Irene, his older sister, was doing her morning prayers to Jesus at the same time downstairs.

"Nanma niranja mariye susthi. Karthaavu anngeodu koodeyundu. Sthreekalil ni anugrahikkappettavalaanu, ninte garbh falamaaya Eesho anugrahikkappettavalaanu(Hail Mary Full of Grace. The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.)"

Edward POV:

"Good day, champion! It's a good day today. You must have a party! 123 123 123456! Yeah!" While I slammed on the alarm clock, I protected my ears with my pillow. "God, my God! Why on earth is the alarm so grating? I hate it." Aaron hastily opens the door, waking me up with ice-cold water. "Chetta! Ente urakkathe ithrayum crooramaayi ningal kaikaaryam cheyyendathilla(You didn't have to treat my slumber with such brutality.)" Aaron displays the time while holding the clock. "Nooo! Innu enikku Mumbaiyilekkulla bassil kayaranam! Enthukondu chettan enne nerathe unarthaatthu(Today I have to board my bus to Mumbai! Why didn't you wake me earlier?)" Due to my question, he rolls his eyes in disbelief. "Innu naan ninne ethra thavana vilichennu ni krithyamaayi kettittundu. Manoharamaya swapnangal kaanunnathinidayil ni uranguka aayirunnu. Ni cheyyunna alla kaaryangalilum ningal ethra mathram bindaasum kaalathaamasavum alasathayum kaanikkunnu ennathinal, combaniyude directaraakunnathu enganeyennu enik ariyilla. Ni ezhunnettu lokam enthaanennu kaanendathundu! Njangal ningale valareyadhikam snehikkunnundengilum, ningal amithamaayi perumaarunna samayangalundu(You have heard of exactly how many times we have called you today. And you were falling asleep while having lovely dreams. Given how bindaaz, tardy, and sluggish you are in everything you do, I have no idea how you will manage to be the director of the company. You need to get up and see the world for what it is! Although we love you dearly, there are times when you are simply too much.)"

As I frantically attempt to get dressed in the bathroom, I sigh. I eat toast as I adjust my tie. Irene warns me, "You missed your morning prayers." "I know that. Pakshe ente yaathrayil Eesho ente koode undakum(But J will be beside me on my journey.)" Annama, my Amma suddenly noticed me running.

"Why are you always so reckless, monne?Ninne pakwatha praapikkunna divasathinaayi njaan kaathirikkukayaanu(I look forward to the day when you mature.)"  I round Amma and kiss her on the cheek. "Amma, ithu nirantharam aavarthikkunnu. Oru divasam, mattaanulla ente kazhivu njaan kaanikkan pokunnu. Ennirunnaalum, ente jeevithathil enikku oru penninne thaalpparyamilla(you've been repeating this constantly. One day, I'm going to show my ability to change. I, however, have no interest in a girl in my life.)" Suddenly, Appa approaches me while frowning. "Ninne nerathe vivaham kazhichillengil ni ingane thanne thudarum. Enthaayaalum nee eppol pokanam. Nallathu Varatte(You will remain this way if you don't get married sooner. Anyway, you need to be leaving now. Good luck!)" He gives me a tight embrace as I say goodbye to my family. I was prepared to start afresh. "Appozhaanu driving padikkuka(When will you learn to drive?),"Aaron replies while speeding his car to my bus stop. "Ni 27 vayassulla oralkku ningal valare pakwathayillathavaraanu. Enthaayaalum, ulsahathode pravarthikkan ni paramaavadhi cheyyuka, raathri ni vilikkuka. Raathri parttikalkkidayil bhraanthu pidikkaruthu. Oru Syriyan catholican enna nilayil, alla raathriyilum yeshuvinodum mariyathodum praarthikkuka. Njaan ithellam ni parayunnathu, ni oru puthiya jeevitham aarambhikkan Mumbaiyilekku maarunnathinaalaanu. Avidathe jeevitham sharikkum vyathyasthamaanu, indiayile ettavum valiya nagaramaanithu. Ni Hindiyum padikkanam(You are very immature for someone your age 27. Anyway, do your best to work diligently and give us a call at night. Don't get crazy during any nighttime parties. As a Syrian Catholic, pray to Jesus and Mary every night. I'm telling you all of this because you're moving to Mumbai to start a new life. Life there is really different and it's the biggest city in India. You must also learn Hindi.)" I respond to my brother-in-law's skepticism with confidence. "Classil njaan Hindi padichu. Njaan ninne marakkilla, vishamikkenda(In class, I studied Hindi. I won't forget you, so don't worry.)" He smiles and hugs me as I wave farewell.

Anna POV:

There were thousands of people observing my students dance on stage to popular songs. Since they had worked so hard to improve themselves, I was watching them with pride and joy. The crowd gets wilder as the grand approaches. We all celebrate as Team Naach's name is finally announced by the judges. "Guys, we did it!" We hugged each other.  "Anna, ezhunelkuka(get up)." From the crowd, a distant voice could be heard. The odd thing, though, was that it wasn't a child's voice. Then I understood that my Mom was removing the blankets off my legs. "Mummy, I was having the most wonderful dream ever. Appol thanne ente joli(My work just then...)" I realized that this was the day I would start working for renowned IT company Infotech in Mumbai. Since high school, I have been working toward my objectives and have been prepared for this day.

"I am running late!" As I quickly gather everything, I kiss my parents goodbye.

I'm sorry; I should have introduced myself. I am Anna Kuruvilla, the only child of Dr. Agnes and businessman Sunny. I frequently get the perception that I'm a nerd or a person who works behind the scenes, so unfortunately, my goal will never come true. But I was a person who was willing to fight and would not give up. As I join the bus to the airport, I remind myself to return to my daily routine. I sprinted to the boarding area carrying my travel papers and passport but then I crashed into a man. "Aap andhe hain? Kya tum nahi dekh sakate ki tum kahaan ja rahe ho? Hey Mister, kya aapako chashma pahanane ki zaroorat hai(Are you blind? Can't you see where you're going? Mister., do you need to wear glasses?)" The young man, who appeared to be around my age, glared. "Jab any log aas paas hon, to aapako apane drishtiko ke prati sachet rahane ki aavashyakata hai. Yah koi mairaathan nahi hai. Vaise bhi, Mister mera naam nahi hai. Main Edward Kattadi hai(When other people are around, you need to be aware of your attitude. This is not a marathon. Anyhow, Mister is not my name. It's Edward Kattadi.)" When I heard my name being called, I quickly gathered my belongings and grabbed my baggage to board the aircraft. Edward right away sat down next to me as soon as I took my seat by the window. "Excuse me. Tumhaari himmat kaise hui mere bagal mein baithane ki(How dare you sit next to me.)" Then he revealed his seat number, which was 452. I rolled my eyes and let him sit while I concentrated on my reading. "To aapako padhana achchha lagata hai. Main tumhe bevakoof samajhta tha(So you like to read. I considered you to be a nerd.)" I replied while turning in the opposite direction. "Apani nijata ka sammaan kare. Aap mujhe kaise aankana chaahate hai?(Respect your own privacy. How do you want to judge me?)" I abruptly noticed that he was illustrating some cartoons. He must have been a talented artist. "Interesting. Is that not Shiva and Rashmi from that popular TV program? Yeh Kya Rishta." He nodded cheerfully as he replied, "So you are a fan.  Kya aap jaanate hain ki main TV shrrnkhala ka graphic designer hoon(Do you know that I am the graphic designer of the tv series.)" What in the world. "I love that show. You are really creative and talented." He took my hand as he shook. "Sorry for the initial meeting. What is your name?" I thought I could trust him because he looks ok in personality. "Anna Kuruvilla. It is nice to meet you Edward. Do you like music?" He laughed at the question as he answered "Obviously. I work as a singer part-time for the Malayalam movie industry but I am also fluent in Hindi." Oh, that was really cool. "Wow, that's amazing. In any case, why are you traveling to Mumbai? Are any family members there?" "My cousin brother is getting married in two weeks," he remarked, nodding. "We previously had a close relationship. What about you?" My friend was there, but I was going to work. "My dearest friend is also getting married in two weeks. What an unplanned coincidence." We both chuckle at the circumstance. "Do you really believe that my brother is marrying your best friend?" What a pointless inquiry. "Of course, no. That is not possible." I plugged in my headphones and watched TV while listening to music. The following morning, I got up right away. "Do you want tea or coffee, Ma'am?" Edward then retorted, "I suppose she might like tea because she looks like that kind of person." Wow, why did he need to ask for me? "One cup of coffee please, with a little touch of cream and brown sugar." He appeared impressed by my response. "Thank God you didn't choose tea. Who even consumes that these days?" His comment irritated me. "Every morning, my mother sips tea. Is that of any concern to you?" Then he said sheepishly, "My mother and sister do, too. Sorry." We eventually heard the announcer. "Your Captain Raj is on the line. You've landed in Mumbai, Maharashtra. I hope your flight was enjoyable. We appreciate you flying with us." Edward followed me as we carried our baggage.

"Why are you following me?" As he declared, he laughed and said, "Actually, I made the choice to stay with you as we both have time today." I agreed while rolling my eyes. He might not be all that horrible. "Where are we headed first, then?" He asked what I was pointing at on the map, and I said "CSMT Heritage Museum." He gave me an incredulous glance. "Are you serious? Boring, dry museums are visited only by the old-fashioned and nerds." Then I boldly remarked, "Do you truly have any other choice? If not, please leave me alone." I entered the lengthy museum, which was crammed with objects. It was boring, to be honest. "See, I warned you. Who is the clever one right now?" He was playing with a young child when I went outdoors. He suddenly begins to sing.

Ladki Kyun-Hum Tum)

Hindi:

Ladki kyon na jaane kyon

Ladkon si nahin hoti

Sochti hai zyada

Kam woh samajhti hai

Sochti hai zyada

Kam woh samajhti hai

Dil kuch kehta hai

Kuch aur hi karti hai

Ladki kyon na jaane kyon

Ladkon si nahin hoti

Ladki kyon na jaane kyon

Ladkon si nahin hoti

Sochti hai zyada

Kam woh samajhti hai

Dil kuch kehta hai

Kuch aur hi karti hai

Ladki kyon na jaane kyon

Ladkon si nahin hoti

Ladki kyon na jaane kyon

Ladkon si nahin hoti

Pyar usse bhi hai magar

Shuruvat tumhi se chahe

Khud mein uljhi uljhi hai

Par baalon ko suljhaye

(I mean you're all the same yaar

Hum achche dost hai

Par us nazar se tumko dekha nahin

Woh sab toh theek hai

Par is baare mein maine socha nahin)

Sabse alag ho tum yeh kehke

Paas tumhare aaye

Aur kuch din mein tum mein alag sa

Kuch bhi na usko bhaye

(Uff yeh kaisi shirt pehante ho

Yeh kaise baal kataate ho

Gaadi tezz chalate ho

Tum jaldi mein kyon khaate ho

Give me a break!)

Tumhe badalne ko paas woh aati hai

Tumhe mitaane ko jaal bichati hai

Baaton baaton mein

Tumhe phasati hai

Pehle hasati hai

Phir bada rulati hai

Ladki kyon na jaane kyon

Ladkon si nahin hoti

Ladki kyon na jaane kyon

Ladkon si nahin hoti

Aye, itna hi khud se khush ho toh

Peeche kyon aate ho

Phool kabhi toh hazaar tohfe

Aakhir kyon laate ho

(Apna naam nahin bataya aapne

Coffee peene chalengi aap

Main aapko ghar chhod doon

Phir kab milengi)

Bikhra bikhra bematlab sa

Toota phoota jeena

Aur kehte ho alag se hai hum

Taanke apna seena

(Bheega toliya kahin farsh pe

Toothpaste ka dhakan kahin

Kal ke mauze ulat ke pehne

Waqt ka kuch bhi hosh nahin)

Jeene ka tumko dhang sikhlati hai

Tumhe jaanwar se insaan banati hai

Uske bina ek pal

Reh na sakoge tum

Usko pata hai yeh

Keh na sakoge tum

Is liye ladkiyan

Ladkon si nahin hoti

Is liye ladkiyan

Ladkon si nahin hoti

Jaane kaun kaun se din woh

Tumko yaad dilaye

Pyar ko chahe bhool bhi jaaye

Tareekhein na bhulaye

(First March ko nazar milayi

Char April ko main milne aayi

Ikkis May ko tumne chua tha

Che June mujhe kuch hua tha)

Ladkon ka kya hai

Kisi bhi modh pe woh mudh jaaye

Abhi kisi ke hai

Abhi kisi aur se woh judh jaaye

(Tumhare mummy daddy ghar par nahin hai

Great ... main aa jaon

Tumhari friend akeli ghar ja rahi hai

Bechari ... main chhod aaon ... uff!)

Ek haan kehne ko kitna tehlaati hai

Thak jaate hai hum woh jee behlati hai

Woh sharmati hai

Tabhi chupati hai

Ladki joh haan kehde

Usse nibhati hai

Is liye ladkiyan

Ladkon si nahin hoti

Is liye ladkiyan

Ladkon si nahin hoti

Na na na ... ladki kyon

Is liye ladkiyan

Ladkon si nahin hoti

(Oh come on shut up!)

Is liye ladkiyan

Ladkon si nahin hoti

(Alright alright

Is mein jaghadne ki baat hai yaar

Pehle pehle bhawre jaise

Paas paas mandrayein

Phir busy hoon yeh kehkar

Tumko woh tarkai

Samjha karo darling

Aaj bahut kaam hai

Door hua toh kya

Dil mein tumhara naam hai

Jis chehre par marte hai

Woh boring ho jaaye

Kuch hi din mein nazarein inki

Idhar udhar mandrayein

Sirf pyar se zindagi nahi chalti

Tum interior decoration ka course kyon nahi karti

Ok that's it!)

English:

I don't know why, but girls

Are not like boys

They think a lot

They understand less

They think a lot

They understand less

Their heart says something

And they do something else

I don't know why, but girls

Are not like boys

I don't know why, but girls

Are not like boys

They think a lot

They understand less

Their heart says something

And they do something else

I don't know why, but girls

Are not like boys

I don't know why, but girls

Are not like boys

Even she loves you but

She wants you to confess

She is confused with herself

But she tries to untangle her hair

(I mean you're all the same

We are good friends

But I haven't seen you from that angle

All that is alright

But I haven't thought about it)

She will tell you that you're unique

And she will come close to you

After a few days itself

She won't find anything unique in you

(Oh my, what shirt are you wearing

How do you make your hair

You drive so fast

Why do you eat in a hurry

Give me a break!)

She comes closer to change you

She puts a trap to erase you

With her conversations

She will trap you

First she will make you laugh

Then she will make you cry a lot

I don't know why, but girls

Are not like boys

I don't know why, but girls

Are not like boys

Hey, if you're happy with yourself

Then why do you come behind me

Sometimes flowers and 1000's of gifts

Why do you bring them

(You didn't tell me your name

You want to go out for a coffee

Should I drop you home

When will you meet me next)

Scattered and meaningless

Is your broken life

And you say that you're different

Openly and being bold

(The wet towel stays on the floor

The cap of the toothpaste is somewhere

You wear old socks by reversing them

You have no clue about time)

She teaches you manners

She makes you human from an animal

Even a moment with her

You won't survive

She knows that

You won't be able to say that

That's why girls

Are not like boys

That's why girls

Are not like boys

Who knows what all dates

She will make you remember

She may forget love

But she won't forget dates

(On 1st March our eyes connected

On 4th April I came to meet you

On 21st May you touched me

On 6th June I felt something)

Who knows about boys

They may turn around at any turn

Now they belong to one

And suddenly they'll fall for anyone else

(Your mother and father are not in the house

Great ... can I come over

Your friend is going home alone

Poor her ... should I drop her ... oh my!)

To say one yes she makes you dance

We get tired but she's having fun

She is shy

That's why she's hiding it

When a girl say yes

Then she stands by it

That's why girls

Are not like boys

That's why girls

Are not like boys

Na na na ... why girls

That's why girls

Are not like boys

(Oh come on shut up!)

That's why girls

Are not like boys

(Alright alright

What's there in this to fight

Initially like bees

They wander around you

Then they say that they are busy

And they will push you away

Try to understand darling

Today I have a lot of work

So what if I'm far

Your name is there in my heart

The face that they die for

That becomes boring to them

In a few days their eyes

Start looking around

Only love is not enough to run life

Why don't you do a course of interior decoration

Ok that's it!)
