Mission Kashmir

There was a slight strain in the air as Jay and Angelina carried on in the market the next day. Even though they were starting to get along well, Angelina couldn't get over her rooted fear that Jay, with his rugged appearance and ties to the criminal underground, may be a danger.

Angelina(tentatively): Jay, thank you us bhayaavah raat mein meri jaan bachane ke liye, lekin main yah dekhe bina nahi rah sakata ki aapake sambandh Kartik Kumar aur usake samooh se hain. Yah bhayankar hai(for saving my life that fateful night, but I can't help but notice that you have connections to Kartik Kumar and his group. It's horrible.)

Jay sighed, sensing the uneasiness in her voice. He recognized the contradiction in his life, the dual nature of his role as a protector and his origins in the harsh streets.

Jay: Angel, main aisa vyavahar nahi kar sakata jaise main us duniya ka hissa nahi hoon. Aisa kaha ja raha hai ki, main sirf ek gunda nahi hoon. Aap Ki tarah, main jeevit rehne ki koshish kar raha hoon(I cannot act like I'm not a part of that world. That being said, I'm not just a goon. Like you, I'm trying to survive.)

There was vulnerability in his eyes that Angelina could see through the tough exterior he put on for the public. She started to think about the conflict between the harsh appearance and a sense of softness beneath.

Angelina(softly): Jay,aisa prateet hota hai ki aap pehle dikhane se kahin adhik jatil hain. Lekin mujhe yakeen hona chahiye ki mujhe tum par bharosa hai. Kaafi raat ho chuki thi, aur main abhi bhi is sab se ubar raha hoon. Haalaanki, aap bade bhaee hain, aur aap ek shuddh aur nirdosh vyakti hua karate the. yah hinsa ke kaary hain jisane aapako us vyakti mein badal diya jo aap hain(it appears that you're more complex than you first appear. But I must be sure that I have faith on you. It was quite the night, and I'm still getting over it all. However, you are the older brother, and you used to be a pure and innocent man. It's the acts of violence that turned you into the person you are.)

Jay(nodding): Main samajhata hoon. Hamaara duniya mein, bharosa koi aisa cheez nahi hai jo aasaani se haasil ho jae. Haalaanki, main chaahata hoon ki aap jaanen ki main sirf ek khatara nahi hoon. Main jo nirnay leta hoon vah kisi kaaran se leta hoon(I understand. In our world, trust isn't something that is easily gained. However, I want you to know that I'm not just a danger. I make the decisions that I do for a reason.)

Jay tried to show the more gentle parts of himself as the day went on. Helping her carry bags, he laughed with her at the market vendors and even showed her an unexpected range of understanding about the fabrics and colors when choosing a new dupatta.

After a moment of hesitation, Angelina nods in agreement. Jay begins to go through the selection, selecting different dupattas and holding them up against Angelina's outfit.

Jay: Yah vaala, kya aap ise pasand karenge? Aapaki aankhen nishchit roop se rang se alag dikhengi(This one, would you like it? Your eyes would definitely stand out from the color.)

Angelina(Examining the fabric): Hmm,itana kharaab bhi nahi. Lekin shaayad kuch halka sa(not bad. But maybe something a little lighter?)

Jay gives a nod and keeps looking till he finds the perfect dupatta. He drapes it over Angelina's shoulders and takes a moment to marvel at his work of art. Jay's eyes linger on her as she watches herself in a nearby mirror, his expression softening.

Jay: Tumhe pata hai, Angel, maine tumhe hamesha bahut sundar paaya hai(You know, Angel, I've always found you to be very beautiful.)

Angelina froze, startled by what he said. With a look of both astonishment and confusion in her eyes, she glances at Jay.

Angelina(Stammering):  Uhm, th-thanks, Jay. That's... unexpected

Jay(Smiling): Kyon? Kya manushy sundarata ko dekhakar nahi pahachaanata(Why? Does a man not recognize beauty when he sees it?)

Angelina flushes, experiencing a wave of feelings she's not sure how to deal with. She glances away quickly as she tries to gather herself.

Angelina: Maine pahale kabhi kisi ko mujhase aisa kuch kahate nahi suna, bas itana hi(I've never heard someone say anything like that to me before, that's all)

Sensing that Angelina feels uncomfortable, Jay's smile falters a little. With genuine eyes, he meets hers by gently lifting her chin up.

Jay: Haalaanki, tab ve andhe the. Baadal vaale din mein, aap, Angel, sooraj ki kiran ki tarah hain. Aur yadi ve ise dekhane mein asamarth hain to ve chook rahe hain(They were blind back then, though. For on a cloudy day, you, Angel, are like a ray of sunshine. And they are missing out if they are unable to see that.)

Jay's comments cause Angelina's heart to skip a beat, warmth racing through her chest. She can't help but think of Sunny, her first love, and the still-present pain in her heart. However, there's something special about Jay that gives her a sense of safety and affection that she hasn't had in a while.

Angelina(Softly): Thank you, Jay. That means a lot.

With understanding in his eyes, Jay smiles reassuringly at her. They just stand there for a time, lost in each other's gazes, before the harsh reality of life returns.

Jay: Haalaanki, yah kaafi goodedaar cheez hai. Isase pahale ki main bahut jyaada jud jaoon, aaie aapaki jaanch karava doon(That's enough mushy stuff, though. Before I get too attached, let's get you checked out.)

With appreciation, Angelina laughs and their friendly banter resumes. She can't help but think that maybe, just maybe there is more to their relationship than meets the eye as they head to the checkout.

Few Months Later:

Kartik Kumar approached Jay with a dark and dangerous project as he presented his wicked plan, "Mission Kashmir," the mastermind behind the illegal operations. Targeting the Indian President was part of the complex scheme, and Kartik saw a chance to take advantage of Jay's strong resentment and thirst for vengeance, as well as to use his emotions for his own devious purposes.

Kartik(smirking): Ab hisaab chukata karane ka samay aa gaya hai, Jay, my boy. Hamen apane aadesh ke anusaar 'Mission Kashmir,' ko anjaam dena hai. Is game mein mukhy khilaadi aap honge(It's time to settle the score, Jay, my boy. We are to carry out 'Mission Kashmir,' per our orders. The main player in this game will be you.)

Reluctantly nodding, Jay's eyes showed a mixture of determination and boiling rage. Kartik used Jay's mysterious past wounds because he recognized that Jay's personal grudge could be used to promote his own goals.

Kartik: Rohit,jo ab mahaanirikshak hai, vah aapaka lakshy hai. Vah shatru ka chehara hai aur vahi hai jo aapake parivaar ki maut ka kaaran bana. Yadi hum use nasht kar dete hain, to yah hamaare shatruon ke liye ghaatak aaghaat hoga(who is now an Inspector General, is your target. He is the enemy's face and the one who led to the death of your family. If we destroy him, it will deal a fatal blow to our enemies.)

Jay was tormented by the memories that Kartik's comments sparked and was experiencing mixed feelings. His background was a jumble, and in the veil of uncertainty, the distinctions between morality and revenge, right and wrong, were unclear. He remembered his Ammi, his Baba, his Chanda, Gulabo, Kaveri, and Naina.

Jay(gritted teeth): Main Rohit ko bhugataan kar doonga, main kasam khaata hoon. Haalaanki, Kartik, isamen aapake liey kya hai(I'll make Rohit pay, I swear. However, Kartik, what's in it for you?)

Kartik(smirking): Ah, Jay,mere vaphaadaar yoddha. Ise apane raashtr ki seva karane ka daayitv samajhen, ya shaayad yah kisi se badala lene ka ek saadhan maatr hai. Kisi bhi sthiti mein, yah vahi baithata hai jo hum chaahate hain(my loyal fighter. Think of it as an obligation to serve your nation, or perhaps it's just a means to get revenge on someone. In either case, it fits what we want.)

With his mind a battlefield between duty and the demons of his past, Jay chased the Inspector General, Rohit, in the dark of the night. The fuzzy borders of his identification, whether he was Pakistani or Hindustani, contributed to the complexity of an already complicated scenario.

Fragments of memories started to surface as Jay dug deeper into the intricacies of his past, exposing a relationship that before the life he currently led as a goon for Kartik Kumar. A treasured memory that connected him to his long-gone childhood best friend, Angelina, surfaced among these memories.

He was brought back to the peaceful Kashmiri valley where they had spent their early years by the memories of laughing and carefree friendship. Jay recalled their tender custom known as their "Best Friend Exchange," in which they exchanged personal mementos that served as enduring reminders of their connection.

Jay(softly, lost in thought): Angel, tumhe pata hai, hamaare paas yah cheez hua karati thi? Sabase ache doston ka aadaan-pradaan. Hum vastuon ka aadaan-pradaan karenge, apani dosti ki nishaani. Main soch raha hoon ki kya vah ab bhi yaad kar sakatei hai(you know, we used to have this thing? The Exchange of Best Friends. We would exchange goods, tokens of our friendship. I'm wondering if she can still remember.)

Jay found himself aching for the connection that had been lost along his turbulent life's journey as the memories kept trickling back. A deep emotion of longing was sparked by the revelation that Angelina was more than just a stranger forced into his world—rather, she was an important figure from his past.

The city's busy streets served as the setting for Jay's search for Angelina, a link to his past that had surfaced from the depths of his memory. His heart beat with eagerness and a hint of fear as he made his way through the chaos of the city. What would she remember? What would she think of this new man he'd become?

Jay saw Angelina in a quiet café tucked away in the middle of the bustling city. Even though time had taken its toll on them both, once their eyes met, there was no denying what they saw. Jay felt a rush of mixed feelings, a mixture of longing, uncertainty, and a sliver of optimism.

Sensing his proximity, Angelina raised her gaze from her coffee. The world outside seemed to disappear for a brief second as their eyes locked. There was a spiritual reunion marked by a shared past.

Angelina(softly): Jay?Kya sach mein tum hai(Is it really you?)

Jay(smirking): In the flesh. Long time, Angel

There was a mix of familiarity and curiosity in their first exchange. The café transformed into a time bridge that connected their past and present as they sat across from one another.

Angelina: Mainne tumhe dobaara dekhane ki kabhei ummeed nahi ki thei kya hua,Jay(I never expected to see you again. What happened, Jay?)

Jay(reflective): Angel, jeevan hua. Yah kuch apratyaashit dishaon mein chala gaya. Haalaanki, main ab yahaan hoon, har cheez ko samajhane ki koshish kar raha hoon(life happened. It went in a few unexpected directions. I'm here now, though, trying to make sense of everything.)

Jay: Angel, main uttar dhoondh raha hoon. Jab hamaare itihaas ki yaaden phir se ubharane lageen to mujhe pata chala ki meri kahaani mein usase kaheen adhik kuch hai jo mainne pahale pahachaana tha. Lekin rikt sthaanon ko bharane ke liye mujhe aapaki sahaayata ki aavashyakata hai(I have been looking for answers. I discovered there was more to my story than I had previously recognized when memories from our history began to resurface. But to fill in the spaces, I need your help.)

Angelina(softly): Jay,hum sabase ache dost the. Chaahe kuch bhi ho jae, main aapake ichchhit uttar dhoondhane mein aapaki madad kar sakata hoon(we were best friends. I can help you in locating the answers you want, no matter what happened.)

The beautiful scenery rang with the memories of Jay's childhood as he traveled deep into Kashmir. As he made his way through the picturesque surroundings, the scent of pine trees and the clean mountain air surrounded him, drawing him nearer to the celebration of his childhood friend with every step.

As he arrived at the location, the guests were decked out in the vivid hues of traditional wedding attire. In the middle of the upbeat music and festive ambiance, Jay noticed Angelina, stunning in traditional attire that seemed to reflect Kashmir's rich cultural legacy.

His eyes lingered on her, drawn to the change that happened since their early years. Her gracefulness and beauty were further enhanced by the intricate details of her attire, which created a nostalgic aura that took him back to a simpler era.

As Angelina celebrated her closest friend's wedding, Jay couldn't help but be in awe of her elegance and delight. He took in the straightforward beauty of the moment, and the weight of his disgruntled past seemed to suddenly lighten.

With a tone that was equal parts amazement and sincere joy, Jay walked up to her and expressed his admiration.

Jay: Angel, you look... absolutely stunning

Angelina turned and smiled a little, taken aback by the unexpected comment. The comfort of their shared past, the excitement of the occasion, and the unspoken bond that had withstood the test of time all buzzed through the air.

Angelina(smiling): Jay,mainne kisi Kashmiri shaadi mein aapase milane ki yojana nahi banai thi. Aapako is sthaan tak kya laaya hai(I hadn't planned running into you at a Kashmiri wedding. What has led you to this place?)

Jay(grinning): Angel, jeevan aashchary se bhara hai. Main yahaan apane itihaas ke kuch ansh mein nai jaan phoonkane ke liye aaya hoon(life is full of surprises. I'm here to breathe new life into a bit of my history.)

Scene: Angelina stands at the edge of a spectacular view of the Kashmiri mountains, her hair rustling in the soft mountain breeze. Captivated by her beauty, Jay moves closer to her.

Jay: Hey there, Angel. Kya cheez aapako is bhavy sthaan par laati hai(What brings you to this majestic spot?)

Angelina looks up at Jay, admiring the breathtaking view with a melancholy look in her eyes.

Angelina: Bas thoda sa akele samay chaahiye, kya aap jaanate hain?Pahaadon mein kabhi-kabhi har cheej ko chota dikhaane ka ek tareeka hota hai(Just needed a little alone time, you know? The mountains have a way of making everything seem small at times.)

Jay: Haan, mujhe vah mil gaya.Unake paas cheejon ko pariprekshy mein rakhane ka ek tareeka hai(Yeah, I get that. They have a way of putting things into perspective.)

Unexpectedly, Jay surrounds Angelina in his arms and draws her into a close embrace. They stand there for a moment, buried in each other's arms, the outside world fading.

Jay: Tumhe pata hai, Angel, ki is paagal duniya mein, tum taaji hava ke jhonke keitarah ho(You know, Angel, that in this crazy world, you're like a breath of fresh air.)

Leaning into Jay's embrace, Angelina smiles warmly before her face darkens.

Angelina: Kaash Sunny mere saath yah saari sundarata dekh paati. Unhone hamesha mere saath yaatra karane aur duniya ka pata lagaane ki ichcha vyakt ki thi(I wish Sunny could have seen all this beauty with me. He had always expressed his desire to travel and explore the world with me.

When Sunny is mentioned, Jay feels hurt and jealousy stabs him in the gut. He pulls away slightly, with mixed feelings visible in his expression.

Jay:  Sunny, huh? Sounds like a lucky guy.

Angelina furrows her brow in concern as she watches Jay's change in demeanor.

Angelina: Kya sabakuch theek hai(Is everything okay, Jay?)

Jay tries to hide the agony he's feeling within by forcing a smile on his face.

Jay: Haan, main theek hoon. Main bas... nahinjaanata tha ki aapake ghar par koi vishesh vyakti aapaka intajaar kar raha hai(Yes, I am alright. I just... didn't know you had a special someone waiting for you at home.)

Angelina reaches out and softly touches Jay's arm, her eyes softening with understanding.

Angelina: Tum bhi, Jay, mere liye bahut maayane rakhate ho.Yyah bas... mera pahala pyaar Sunny tha, tumhe pata hai? Aise kisi ko bhoolana mushkil hai(You too, Jay, mean a lot to me. It's just... My first love was Sunny, you know? Someone like that is difficult to forget.)

As Jay hears Angelina reminisce about her romantic times with Sunny, a simmering rage seeps to the surface. His fists tighten at his sides and his jaw clenches, but he wills himself to stay calm.

Jay: Tell me more about your romantic adventures with Mr. Perfect, please. The concert, the ball... All of it, please.

As Angelina reminisces about each moment, her eyes brighten with nostalgia and her voice brims with joy.

Angelina: Ball bahut adbhut thi. Sunny ki krpa aur aakarshan ne mujhe poori tarah mantramugdh kar diya. Aur jab unhone sangeet kaaryakram ke dauraan mere liye gaana gaaya, to aisa laga jaise poori duniya gaayab ho gaeeio(The ball was, oh, so amazing. Sunny's grace and charm had me completely enthralled. And when he sang to me during the concert, it felt as though the entire world vanished.)

With a look of concern on her face, Angelina reaches out to gently touch Jay's arm as she observes the shift in his behavior.

Angelina: Jay pulls away suddenly, his words tinged with hatred, his wrath erupting as he walks back and forth.

Jay: Nahn, main theek nahi hoon! Main yah sunakar thak gaya hoon ki vah kitana adbhut tha aur usakee bhavy gendon aur pradarshan ne aapako kaise pyaar mein daal diya. Angel, mere baare mein kya? Kya main sachamuch Mr. Perfect se pratispardha kar sakata hoon(No, I'm not okay! I'm sick of hearing about how amazing he was and how his lavish balls and performances made you fall in love. Angel, what about me? Can I really compete with Mr. Perfect?)

As Angelina sings Sunny's praises and lists all of his virtues, Jay's heart falls. With every speech, his own doubts and self-doubt grow as he listens in quiet.

Jay: Haan, mujhe pata hai,Angell. Sunny va sab kuch tha jo main nahin hoon. ... Perfect, handsome, smart, rich... the whole package(yeah, I know, Angel. Sunny was everything I'm not. Perfect, handsome, smart, rich... the whole package.)

With a worried expression on her face, Angelina reaches out to touch Jay's arm while speaking in a calm, soothing tone.

Angelina: Jay,aap apane prati bilkul bhi dayaalu nahi hain. Apake paas taakat, lachilaapan aur ek achcha dil hai. Yah theek hai ki tum Sunny jaisi nahi ho(you're not being kind to yourself at all. You possess strength, resilience, and a good heart. It's okay that you are not the same as Sunny.)

Jay glances away, unwilling to meet Angelina's stare, and shakes his head, letting out a bitter laugh.

Jay: Pretty different, huh? It's more like the total opposite. I'm a monster—rugged, tough, foolish.

Angelina takes Jay's hand in hers gently and asks him to look at her, her eyes widening with astonishment and a flicker of grief running across her features.

Angelina: Tum raakshas nahn ho, Jay. Aap bas ek aise vyakti hain jisane chot ka anubhav kiya hai aur jise aatmaraksha ke liye baadhaen khadi karani padi hain. Jay ,haalaanki, main in sab se pare dekhata hoon. Main dekhata hoon ki aap vahi aadamei the aur, apane mool mein, hamesha rahenge(You're not a monster, Jay. You're just a person who has experienced hurt and has had to build barriers for self-defense. Jay, though, I see beyond all of that. I see the man you were and, at your core, always will be.)

At Angelina's remarks, Jay's walls start to fall apart. Tears well up in his eyes as he remembers a time in his past when he was truly happy.

Jay: Angel, aap samajh nahi rahe hain. mMin hamesha se aisa nahintha. Main ek samay dayaalu, maasoom aur pyaar karane vaala tha. Angel, mera bahanen merey lie sab kuch theen. mMra brahmaand ve the. Haan, main un dinon alag tha. Har cheez se zyaada, main unase pyaar karata tha. Aur Ajay, jisaki shaadi meri Chanda, meri Aisha se hui tie, mere liye bhai ki tarah tha. Angel, ve mera parivaar the. Aur mainne un sabhi ko kho diya(you're not understanding. I was not always like this. I was once kind, innocent, and loving. Angel, my sisters were everything to me. My universe was them. Yes, I was different in those days. More than everything, I loved them. And Ajay, who was married to my Chanda, my Aisha, was to me like a brother. Angel, they were my family. And I lost them all.)

When Jay says that Angelina deserves someone better than him—someone like Sunny—his words loom large in the atmosphere. He observes as a spark of anger crosses her face and her intensely intense eyes light up.

Jay: Sunny us tarah ka insaan hai jisai aap hakadaar hain, Angeel.Mere jaisa nahn, raakshas(is the kind of person you deserve, Angel. Not like me, a monster.

As Angelina approaches Jay, her hands clench into fists at her sides and her voice becomes piercing with irritation.

Angelina: Jay,aisa kahane ki himmat mat karo! Aap nahi jaanate ki main kis yogy hoon ya mere liye kya sarvottam hai(don't you dare say that! You don't know what I deserve or what's best for me!)

Surprised by the fire in Angelina's eyes, Jay flinches away from her abrupt outburst. She kisses him on the cheek before he speaks, her lips lingering on his skin for a brief moment before she pulls away.

Angelina: For being such a fool

After that, Angelina turned and raced off, leaving Jay stunned and unable to speak. He feels the place on his cheek where her kiss used to be, emotions rushing through him.

Jay: Damn it, Angel.
