Dard-Pain
Lynette Chachi and Renu Didi gave Anna a warm welcome when she arrived in London. In this strange and new environment, there was comfort in seeing the faces you knew. "Anna, mere priya, tumhe dekhakar bahut acha laga. London mein aapaka svaagat hai(my love, it's wonderful to see you. Welcome to London!)" Renu gives her a hug. "Hello, Anna. Maine tumhaare baare mein bahut kuch suna hai. Aakhirakaar aapase milakar mujhe khushi hui. Ise apana ghar samajhen(I've heard alot about you. I'm glad to have finally met you. Make yourself at home.)" Anna is appreciative of their warmth. "Lynette Chachi and Renu Didi, thank you. Mujhe apane ghar par rukane ki anumati dene ke liye aapaka bahut-bahut dhanyavaad(Thank you so much for letting me stay at your house.)" There was something welcoming about Lynette's home, and Anna felt a sense of peace settle upon her. When Lynette and Renu realized how much Anna was struggling, they jumped at the chance to help. "Main samajhata hoon ki yah aapake liye ek kathin kshan hoga, Anna. Aap apani gati se aage badh sakate hain, aur hum aapaka samarthan karane ke liye yahaan hain(I understand that this must be a difficult moment for you, Anna. You can go at your own pace, and we're here to support you.)"
Renu agrees with her mother. "Haan, anna. Yahaan, hum parivaar ki tarah hain. Aapake paas shaantipoorn sthaan hain aur yadi aapako kabhi hamaari aavashyakata ho to hum bhi(yes, Anna. Here, we're like family. You have peaceful places and us if you ever need us)" Lynette and Renu sat down to a cup of tea and swapped between telling each other stories about their travels to and experiences in London. They knew that Anna may find the adjustment difficult, so they made an effort to make her feel at home. "London ka apana ek anokha aakarshan hai aur mujhe yakeen hai ki aap yahaan sahaj mahasoos karenge. Aap theek hone ke liye jitana samay chaahiye le sakate hain, aur hum saath milakar shahar ka daura karenge(London has a unique charm of its own, and I'm sure you'll feel comfortable here. You can take all the time you need to recover, and together we'll visit the city.)" "Vah sahi hai(She is correct)", Renu adds. "Hum yahaan kisi bhi samay Edward ya kisi any cheez ke baare mein baatacheet karane ke liye hain. Saajha karane se upachaar prakriya mein madad mil sakati hai(We're here to chat about Edward or anything else at any time. Sharing may help in the healing process.)" Anna was grateful to Lynette and Renu for their kind greeting and sincere concern. She understood that, eventually, London would turn into a place of healing and revitalization, and that being in a new setting with encouraging people was the fresh start she needed. Anna was overcome with memories when she sat down at a table filled with Lynette's comforting fragrance of iddiyapam. Not only was the meal her favorite, but Edward also loved it. Emotions surged back, the kitchen warm and aromatic with freshly cooked idiyappam. "Iddiyapam...Edward ka pasandeeda(Edward's favorite)"
Just then, a flashback took Anna back to a time when she and Annama made idiyappam for Edward, who had always had a special place in his heart for his mother's food. There was a flurry of work in the kitchen as they prepared a special breakfast. Together, Anna and Annama worked while the beautiful scent of coconut filled the room as their hands skillfully shaped the rice noodles. "Edward ko idiyappam bahut pasand hai. Unaka kahana hai ki yah unhe apane ghar ki yaad dilaata hai(Edward loves Idiyappam. He says it reminds him of his home.)" Annamma gives a nod. "Yah unaka sarvakaalik pasandeeda tha. Vah ise Agnes se bhi praapt karata tha(It was his all-time favorite. He used to get it from Agnes as well.)" The memory showed an inviting scene with Edward walking into the kitchen with a cheeky smile. "Mmm... What's cooking, ladies?" Anna gives him a sly smile. "Idiyappam, your favorite." Edward laughs and smiles. "Tum mere dil ka raasta jaanati ho, Anna(You know the way to my heart, Anna.)" Laughter erupted as they all took their seats to eat. Edward expressed his gratitude for the dish that made him feel nostalgic and at ease as he enjoyed every bite. With tears flowing down her face, Anna found herself back in the present as the flashback faded.
Present, Feb 3rd 2015:
Along with being an act of affection from Lynette, the idiyappam on the table brought back memories of her time together with Edward. "Anna, tum theek ho(are you okay?)" Anna sniffles. "I am sorry Lynette Chachi. Baat sirf itani hai ki Edward ko hamesha se idiyappam pasand raha hai. Yah yaaden vaapas laata hai(I am sorry Lynette Aunty. It's just that Edward has always loved idiyappam. It brings back memories.)" Lynette gives her a cozy hug. "Main samajh gaya, priye. Hum bhojan ke maadhyam se un logo ke prati lagaav mahasoos kar sakate hain jinase hum pyaar karate hain. Hum yahaan aapake liye hain, isalie apana samay len aur ise yaad rakhen(I get it, sweetie. We can feel an attachment to the people we love through food. We're here for you, so take your time and remember that.)" Every meal that Anna shared with Lynette and Renu in London became a nostalgic trip through the years, an occasion for her to carry Edward's memory with her.
When Anna looked out the window one peaceful evening in London, remembering Edward, she was surprised to see him standing there. He looked so human that it made her feel everything from disbelief to pure excitement. Anna whispers the name of her breath of life and love. "Edward?" With a smile, Edward expressed the warmth and love Anna so clearly remembered. "Hey pyaari. Meri yaad aati hai(Hey, love. Miss me?)" A wave of emotions swept through Anna as she ran to embrace him. They shared a heartfelt and surreal moment as they laughed together. Annaś eyes gushing with tears but he wipes them. "Edi,tum mujhe kyon choda? Edi, mujhe tumhaari bahut yaad aati hai. Tumhaare bina yah bahut kathin hai(why did you leave me? Edi, I've miss you so much. Itś been so hard without you.)" When he wraps his arms over her back and presses his forehead against hers, Edward begins to cry too. "Haan, Anna, mujhe pata hai. Main tumhe dekh raha hoon. Aap jitana sochate hain usase kaheen jyaada majaboot hain(Yes, Anna, I know. I've been watching you. You are stronger than you think.)" An ethereal glow seemed to fill the room as they spoke and laughed. Though something felt off, Anna could still feel a real connection between them. "Edward, mujhe vishvaas nahi ho raha ki aap yahaan hai(I can't believe you're here.)" Edward kissed her hand. "Main hamesha tumhaare saath hoon, Annie. Lekin main chaahata hoon ki aap ek mahatvapoorn kadam aage badhaen. Hamaara pyaar samay aur sthaan se pare hai(I'm always with you, Annie. But I need you to take an important step forward. Our love is beyond time and space.)" A light breeze blew through the room as he spoke, making Edward's form flicker like a fleeting vision. Anna learns the truth that it was his spirit. "Edward..." Edward breaks down. "Annie, mere jaane ka samay ho gaya hai. Lekin yah kabhi mat bhoolo ki hamaara pyaar shaashvat hai(it's time for me to go. But never forget that our love is everlasting.)" After giving Anna a farewell hug and whispering "I love you," Edward's figure vanished into thin air, leaving Anna alone in the empty room. She felt a wave of thankfulness and pain as the truth of the situation hit her. She cries and falls to her knees. "Dhanyavaad, Edward. Main hamaari yaadon ko hamesha sanjokar rakhoonga(I'm thankful Edward. I will always treasure our memories.)" Anna experienced a sense of acceptance and closure at that very time. Even though Edward was no longer physically present with her, the spiritual visitation gave her newfound strength and served as a reminder that love has no bounds.
1 month later:
Over her days in London, Anna's anguish hung over her like a thick cloud. Their three-year-old daughter Khushi became her constant companion, providing consolation and a moving reminder of the love she had shared with Edward. After witnessing Anna's struggle, Renu concluded it was time for her to go and escape the burden of the past. "Anna, main dekh sakata hoon ki aapako London ko kai haphte ho gae hain phir bhi har cheej ka aap par kitana asar ho raha hai. Mera maanana hai ki aapako kuch samay ki chutti leni chaahiye, kisi party mein jaana chaahiye aur kuch samay ke liye khud ko kuch samay dena chaahiye(I can see how much everything is still affecting you even though it has been weeks since you moved to London. I believe you should take some time off, go to a party, and give yourself some time to yourself for a while.)" Anna's voice is quiet. "Renu, mujhe yakeen nahi hai. Logon ke beech apani chavi banaana aur aise vyavahaar karana kathin hai jaise kuch bhi galat nahi hai(I'm not sure. It's difficult to picture yourself around people and acting like nothing is wrong.)" Renu calms herself down. "Khushi ki dekhabhaal Mummy ji karengi. Anna, aap apane liye kuch samay ke hakadaar hain. Haalaanki isaka matalab bhool jaana ya aage badhana nahi hai, kabhi-kabhi parivesh mein badalaav se aatma ko bahut laabh ho sakata hai(Khushi will be looked after by Mummy ji. Anna, you deserve some time to yourself. Although it does not mean forgetting or moving on, occasionally the soul might benefit greatly from a change of surroundings.)" Anna reluctantly accepted. She had assurances from Lynette Mami that she would have a close eye on Khushi and that they would have a great time together. "Anna, aapako kuch akele samay ki aavashyakata hai. Hum yah sunishchit karenge ki Khushi khush aur surakshit rahe. Jab aap lautenge to hum yahaan honge, isalie shaam ka aanand len(you need some alone time. We'll see to it that Khushi is happy and safe. We'll be here when you return, so go enjoy the evening.)" Anna got ready to go to the party, feeling both grateful and nervous. Though entering a social environment seemed frightening, there was a ray of optimism that maybe this respite would offer her a brief release from the burden of her loss. Lost in her own thoughts, Anna found herself in the backseat of the car with Renu as they traveled to the party. She was still thinking about Edward, so the passing scenery was a blur. She glanced over at a man on a bike.
The ensuing shock was tremendous. "Edward?" Renu heard the surprise in Anna's voice as she cast a quick glance at her. She looked at the man on the bike, following Anna's gaze. There were some obvious differences, but overall, the similarity to Edward was extraordinary. "Anna, tum theek ho(are you okay?)" Anna gestures at the bike. "Bike par vah aadami bilkul Edward, jaisa dikhata hai Renu. Use dekho. Vah vahaan dikhata to hai lekin alag tareeke se(That man on the bike looks just like Edward, Renu. Look at him. He seems to be there but in a different way.)" Renu gives the man a look. "Kya adbhut samaanata hai. Anna, yaad rakhen ki yah Edward nahi ho sakata. Baat keval itani hai ki vah vyakti usase milata-julata hai(What a striking similarity. Anna, remember that it cannot be Edward. It's only that the person resembles him.)" Anna had to as the car got closer to the bike. "Edward?" With a puzzled expression on his face, the muscular man with glasses on the bike turned to face her. He appeared surprised by Anna's reaction. The man is perplexed. "Kya main aapako jaanata hoon(Do I know you?)" Anna falters. "I-I am sorry about what I s-said. You just look like someone I know so very much." Renu realized the range of emotions Anna must be feeling and put a gentle soothing touch on her shoulder. "Anna, chinta mat karo. Aaie party par dhyaan den; shaayad yah ek ajeeb sanyog hai(don't worry. Let's concentrate on the party; perhaps this is an odd coincidence.)" Anna couldn't get rid of the impression that she was witnessing a ghost from her past as the car drove away. She was confused and thoughtful as they made their way to the celebration because of the striking similarity. The music pulsed across the arena, creating a lively mood throughout the party. The bright show that greeted Anna and Renu as they arrived included a DJ getting the party started.

The DJ, who was the man who had earlier caught Anna's interest, moved away from the turntables as the song was coming to a finish. She took a step back, her gaze stuck on him as the shock and amazement overcame her once more. Observing Anna's reaction, Renu smiled as she walked up to DJ Siddharth Aryan. "Anna, yah Siddharth hai, mera dost aur aaj raat ka DJ(this is Siddharth, my friend and the DJ for tonight.)" Still absorbing the bizarre similarity, Anna found it difficult to speak. Siddharth smiled broadly and held out his hand. "Hi there! Aapase milakar acha laga. Mainne Renu se aapake baare mein bahut kuch seekha hai(It's nice to meet you. I've learned a lot about you from Renu.)" Unable to process what was happening, Anna took a step back and her eyes grew wide with shock and disbelief. Renu expresses regret. "Mujhe khed hai Siddharth. Anna kathin daur se gujar rahe hain. Mujhe tumhe taiyaar karana chaahiye tha(I am sorry Siddharth. Anna is going through a rough moment. I should have prepared you.)" Siddharth is concerned. "Don't worry. Anna, take your time. If you want to talk, I'm here." But Anna's emotional tsunami was too much to handle, and she turned and fled the scene without saying anything. Sensing that her cousin was in distress, Renu hastily followed, leaving Siddharth standing there looking confused. Anna hears Renu's call. "Anna, hold on! I am sorry." Renu couldn't help but feel responsible for Anna's emotional state as she ran after her. Renu wished to offer Anna the understanding and support she needed, as the unexpected encounter had evoked memories and sentiments she wasn't prepared to face. In an attempt to get away from the intense feelings that had been plaguing Anna, Anna and Renu made the decision to explore London a few days later. They arrived to a busy mall and were engulfed in the colorful energy of the city. They were strolling around the complex, taking in all the shops and activities when Siddharth unexpectedly appeared and waved hello. "Hello, Anna! Fancy seeing you here." Anna had a wave of unease, still troubled by Siddharth's resemblance to Edward. Though she made an effort to calm down, the memories of the past persisted. "London mein aapaka samay kaisa beet raha hai? Mujhe aasha hai ki aap aanand le rahe honge(How's your time in London going? I'm hoping you're enjoying yourself.)" With a knot in her gut, Anna found it hard to reply. She turned and fled without saying a word, overcome by the terror and misery of the past. Witnessing Anna's abrupt retreat, Renu experienced a mixture of worry and frustration. She gave Siddharth an apologetic glance and then ran after her cousin. "Anna, wait! What are you doing?" Anna ran on, unprepared for the wave of emotions that erupted at the sound of Siddharth's warm greetings. Renu caught up with Anna, her voice evoking both empathy and irritation. "Anna, tumhe is tarah daudana band karana hoga. Siddharth ke prayaas mitravat hain. Jo hua use sveekaar karana chaahiye aur aage badhana chaahiye(you have to stop running in this manner. Siddharth's efforts are friendly. You must accept what happened and move forward.)" Shaking her head, Anna was breathless and crying. "Nahi, Renu, main nahi kar sakata. Yah to jyaada hai. Main taiyaar nahi hoon(No, Renu, I can't. It's too much. I'm not ready.)" Acknowledging the extent of Anna's suffering, Renu sighed. Knowing that healing required patience and time, she put a consoling arm around her cousin. It was not easy to deal with the nuances of grief and emotional wounds, and Renu realized that to help Anna on this journey, empathy and understanding would be necessary.
An overwhelming burden of memories weighed on Anna as she sat by herself in her room. She was taken back in time to a memorable but also bittersweet experience that had deeply impacted her.
Dec 25, 2011:
The room was filled with the warm glow of Christmas lights on a December evening. Edward stepped closer to Anna, regret visible in his eyes. "I am sorry Anna. Is varsh, main aapake liye krisamas upahaar nahi dhoondh paaya(This year, I was unable to find a Christmas gift for you.)" Anna dismissed his worries with a smile. "Edward, aapake saath rahana sabase acha upahaar hai jo main maang sakata hoon(being with you is the best gift I could ask for.)" She had no idea that Edward, the thoughtful man that he was, had something special planned for her birthday in April.
April 14, 2012:
Edward spoke with Annama and Agnes in private as Anna's birthday drew near in order to arrange a touching surprise. They met in a room filled with the symphony of joy on that special day. Annama smiled and came up to Anna with a beautifully wrapped gift. "Mere priya, janmadin mubaarak ho. Edward hi vah vyakti hai jisane ise bheja hai(My dear, happy birthday. Edward is the one who sent this.)" Intrigued, Anna opened the present to see an elegant anklet. "Oh,yah bahut sundar hai. Haalaanki, yah Edward ki or se kyon hai(it's very beautiful. Why is it from Edward, though?)" To her amazement, Annama smiles. "Vah choote hue Christmas ki bharapai karana chaahata tha. Ise lagao, mere priya(He wanted to make up for missing Christmas. Put it on, my darling.)" Edward, who was standing close by, gently placed the anklet on Anna's feet after taking it from Annama's hands. "Christmas na aane ke liye mujhe khed hai, lekin main aapaka janmadin vishesh banaana chaahata tha(I'm sorry for missing Christmas, but I wanted to make your birthday special.)" Agnes, who had been watching silently, walked over to the piano. She touched it gently and started to play a beautiful tune. "Aaie jashn manaen, meri rajakumaari Anna(Let's celebrate, my princess Anna.)" A beautiful birthday song was sung by the entire family as they gathered around. Agnes's wonderful piano music filled the room as well as the sounds of love and laughing.
Present:
The warm recollection played back to Anna, bringing tears to her eyes as much as consolation. It served as a reminder of the eternal love she and Edward had shared, a love that remained alive in her heart despite the passage of time. Anna felt a range of emotions as she was overcome with recollections of that memorable birthday celebration. She couldn't help but feel the weight of Edward's absence as she held the anklet on her foot, a precious present. She kissed the anklet, her eyes welling with tears as she remembered the connection it represented. Sensing Anna's sadness, Renu went inside the room and discovered her sister at a vulnerable point. "Anna, what's wrong?" Tears bursting from her eyes, Anna turned to face Renu and whispered "I miss him so much."
Renu gave Anna a reassuring embrace, providing compassion among sorrow. The sound of a heart longing for the presence of a loved one reverberated throughout the room. "Anna, dukhi hona theek hai. Yah koi aisi cheez nahi hai jise aapako akele hi sahan karana hogi(it's okay to be sad. This is not something you have to bear by yourself.)" Anna felt both grief and gratitude as she held onto Renu. She couldn't help but think of Siddharth and how much he looked like Edward as she tried to gather herself. Anna's mind strayed to the unplanned meetings and the emotional upheaval they caused. The intensity of Anna's feelings was increased by the conflict between the remembrance of Siddharth's kind gestures and the deep absence of Edward. Even if Renu was still there to support her, Anna couldn't get rid of the feeling that something had been testing her strength and making her face the past in ways she wasn't prepared for. Anna navigated the complex tapestry of her emotions in those exposed moments, surrounded by echoes of love and loss, and found comfort in the companionship of a sister who comprehended the depth of her pain.
(I love this song so much...it brings so many childhood memories and is perfect for the situation)
