A Heart Left Behind

Author's Note: As we reach the final pages of this journey, I want to thank you, dear reader, for standing beside Dev and Anna through the chaos, the love, and the challenges they've faced together. This is the moment where everything comes to a head—where their choices, sacrifices, and the forces that threaten them collide in one final act.

But know this: not all endings are simple. Some unravel in ways we never expect, leaving us with more questions than answers, more ache than closure.

And now, as the family braces for what's to come, they will face the one thing that no one can truly prepare for. What lies ahead is beyond their control, beyond their understanding.

Keep reading—because what happens next, even they couldn't see coming.

Turn the page if you dare, for this is where everything changes.

The air was alive with excitement and delight as everyone looked forward to their approaching journey to the Dover Cliffs. The whole family buzzed with enthusiasm, and amidst the chaos of preparations, Dev and Anna found a quiet moment to get ready together.

The room had a cozy atmosphere thanks to the sun's golden warmth. While Anna carefully selected out her accessories with care, Dev was standing by the window tying his shoelaces. There was a sense of anticipation for a glorious day ahead.

Dev: (smirking) Chattanon par vijay paane ke liye taiyaar(Ready to conquer the cliffs?)

Anna turned to face him, a playful glint in her eyes. She wore a radiant smile that matched the morning sun.

Anna: (teasingly) Keval tabhi jab aap mujhe kisi chattanon se dhakka na dene ka vada kare(Only if you promise not to push me off any cliffs.)

Dev: (mock gasping) Me? Pushing you off cliffs? Never!

Anna chuckled at his exaggerated innocence, and the air between them crackled with the ease that came from years of love.

Anna: (gazing at Dev) Tumhe pata hai, ham apane shuruaati dinon se bahut aage nikal aaye hain jab main tumse door bhagta tha(You know, we've come a long way from our initial days where I ran away from you.)

Dev: (grinning) Aur phir bhi, hum yahaan ek nae romaanch ke liye taiyaar hain(And yet, here we are, ready for a new adventure.)

Dev approached Anna, and with a gentle touch, he adjusted a loose strand of hair that framed her face.

Dev: (whispering) You look breathtaking, as always.

Anna blushed at his compliment, appreciating the sincerity in his eyes.

Anna: (smiling) Aap swayan itne bure nahi hain, Mister Malhotra(You're not so bad yourself, Mr. Malhotra.)

The family members' lively conversation filled the bus ride to Dover Cliffs, with each person adding their own special spark to the occasion. The road trip was made more entertaining by the siblings' playful conversation while the bus traveled the picturesque route.

Masoom: (playfully annoying) Hoshiyaar, munh banana band karo! Tum Duggu ko dara rahe ho(stop making faces! You're scaring Duggu.)

Hoshiyaar, known for his quirky sense of humor, couldn't resist making funny faces to entertain the youngest member of the family, Duggu. Duggu giggled, enjoying the attention.

Sunaina: (stylishly) Kya kisi ne mera chashma dekha hai? Main uske bina tasveer nahi khinchava sakata(Has anyone seen my sunglasses? I can't pose for pictures without them.)

Sunaina, the fashionable one, comically searched through her bag for her sunglasses, drawing eye rolls and laughter from the others.

Isha: (innocently) Mom,kya hum ice cream ke liye ruk sakte hain? Please(can we stop for ice cream? Please!)

The youngest sibling, Isha, innocently pleaded for a sweet treat, her eyes wide with hope. Ragini couldn't resist her adorable request.

Tej: (friendly) Hey, Dev,yaad hai college ka vah samay jab hum(remember that time in college when we...)

Tej, the friendliest of the group, started recounting college memories, much to the amusement of Rajesh, Aarti, and Ragini.

Khushi: (excitedly) Mom, Dad, look at the view!Yah bahut sundar hai(It's so beautiful!)

Anna's daughters, Khushi and Jhanvi, were fascinated with the gorgeous landscape, and their enthusiasm was infectious.

Ram: (mischievously) Uncle Dev,kya aapako vah samay yaad hai jab(do you remember the time when...)

Ram and Lakhan, Dev's nephews, began sharing amusing stories from their childhood, bringing back memories and laughter.

Deep: (joining the fun) Masoom didi, aap hamesha jaanate hain ki mood ko halka kaise rakha jae(you always know how to keep the mood light!)

Deep, Isha's husband, appreciated the playful dynamics within the family, contributing to the joyous atmosphere.

Happiness and laughter abounded during the bus ride, but Anna couldn't help but feel a little restless amid the lively conversation. She looked ahead to the front seat and met Dev's gaze. A mischievous spark sprang between them as their eyes met.

Dev: (playfully) Anna, feeling a bit bored, are we?

Anna responded with a sly grin, raising an eyebrow in acknowledgment. Dev, being the master of romantic gestures, decided to lift her spirits. He blew a gentle flying kiss in her direction.

Anna: (teasingly) Oh, Dev,aapke paas bas itna hi hai(is that all you've got?)

Dev: (mockingly dramatic) Tumane mujhe ghayal kar diya, Anna! Mera dil aise chanchal jhatake nahi sah sakata(You wound me, Anna! My heart can't take such playful jabs.)

The family members nearby couldn't help but chuckle at their playful exchange. Encouraged by the audience, Anna decided to respond in kind. With a mischievous smile, she drew a heart in the air, a silent declaration of her love for Dev.

Anna: (affectionately) There, Mr.Romantic, a heart for you.

Dev, thoroughly entertained, caught the imaginary heart and pressed it to his chest with a melodramatic expression, eliciting laughter from those around them.

Sunaina: (teasingly) Dev, Anna, pahale se hi ek kamara le lo! Aap hum sabhi ko jealous bana rahe hain(get a room already! You're making us all jealous.)

The scenic journey to Dover cliffs took a sudden and terrifying turn as the atmosphere shifted from joyous laughter to sheer panic. As the bus came to a halt, the passengers were greeted with an unexpected and ominous sight – a group of dangerous goons blocking their way.

Rajesh: (anxiously) Kya ho raha hai? Yahaan hathiyaaraband log kyun hain(What's happening? Why are there armed men here?)

Dev: (protectively) Everyone, stay down! Main dekhoonga ki kya ho raha hai(I'll see what's going on.)

Dev, ever the protector, moved cautiously toward the front of the bus to assess the situation. The air was thick with tension as the goons approached, their intentions unclear.

Goon Leader: (threateningly) Koi na hilen! Yah ab hamara kshetr hai(Nobody move! This is our territory now.)

Anna: (whispering to Dev) Dev,dhyaan se. Hamen bachchon ke baare mein sochne ki jarurat hai(be careful. We need to think of the children.)

Masoom: (whispering to Duggu) Duggu, mere kareeb raho aur awaz mat karo(stay close to me and don't make a sound.)

The goons, evidently up to no good, started to surround the bus, causing panic among the passengers.

Sunaina: (whispering to Isha) Isha,Lakhan ko paas rakho. Hamen choton ki raksha karane ki jaroorat hai(keep Lakhan close. We need to protect the little ones.)

Isha: (nervously) Don't worry, Sunaina di. We'll get through this.

As the tension escalated, the family huddled together, each member sharing worried glances. The children, sensing the fear in the air, clung to their parents for comfort.

Hoshiyaar: (whispering to Khushi) Khushi, chinta mat karo. Hum ek team hain aur hum surakshit rahenge(don't worry. We're a team, and we'll stay safe.)

Khushi: (whispering back) Mujhe pata hai Hoshiyaar Chacha. Hum saath rahenge(I know, Hoshiyaar uncle. We'll stick together.)

The goons, seemingly emboldened, demanded valuables from the passengers.

Goon Leader: (demandingly) Apana saamaan saumpen! Hum yahan game khelne ke liye nahi hain(Hand over your belongings! We're not here to play games.)

As the passengers reluctantly handed over their belongings, the situation became increasingly dire. Dev, assessing the danger, whispered to Anna.

The bus careened dangerously close to the edge of the cliff, sending shockwaves of fear through the passengers. The sound of gunshots mingled with terrified screams as the tires screeched, teetering on the precipice.

Dev: (shouting) Ruko, sab log! Hamen ek saath rahane ki jaroorat hai(Hold on, everyone! We need to stay together!)

Anna: (clinging to Dev) Dev,kya ho raha hai? Hum chattaan par nahi ja sakate(what's happening? We can't go over the cliff!)

Rajesh: (shouting to the driver) Bas roko! Bhagwan ke lie, ruke(Stop the bus! For God's sake, stop!)

The driver, panic-stricken, struggled to regain control of the bus, but the relentless gunfire and chaos made it nearly impossible.

Isha: (shielding Lakhan) Hold on tight, Lakhan. We'll get through this.

The family members, gripping the branches above the cliff, shared frantic glances, their hearts pounding with fear.

As the bus hung precariously, the passengers faced the horrifying prospect of going over the cliff.

Masoom: (screaming) Duggu! Mujhe pakado, Duggu(Hold on to me, Duggu!)

Duggu, scared and clinging to Masoom, added his terrified cries to the cacophony of chaos.

Khushi: (calling to Jhanvi) Jhanvi, paas raho! Hum theek ho jaayenge(stay close! We'll be okay!)

The children, wide-eyed and frightened, held on desperately, their innocence starkly contrasted against the unfolding danger.

Goon Leader: (mockingly) Yah aap sabhi ka ant hai(This is the end for all of you!)

As the bus teetered on the edge, Duggu, the youngest among them, slipped through an opening and found himself dangling precariously from a branch, his small hands gripping desperately.

Masoom: (screaming) Duggu! No!

Hoshiyaar: (panicking) Masoom, kuch karo! Hamare beta ko bacha lo(do something! Save our son!)

Anna: (determined) Main neeche ja raha hoon! Ruko Duggu(I'm going down! Hold on, Duggu!)

Anna, fueled by maternal instinct, swiftly descended from the bus and maneuvered her way onto the rocky surface of the cliff.

Dev: (calling to Anna) Anna, dhyaan se(be careful!)

Anna secured a rope from the bus and skillfully tossed it to Duggu, who clung to it with fear in his innocent eyes.

Anna: (reassuring Duggu) Hold on, sweetheart. Mami Aapke liye aa rahi hai(Aunty's coming for you.)

Anna, with unwavering determination, pulled Duggu up, inch by inch, until he was safely back on solid ground.

Masoom: (teary-eyed) Oh, Duggu! Thank you, Anna!

Hoshiyaar: (relieved) We owe you everything, Anna. Thank you.

Anna, with Duggu safely in her arms, climbed back up to the bus, where the rest of the family awaited, their collective relief palpable.

Anna: (calling out) Theek hai, sab log, hum yahan se nikal rahe hain! Dev, doosron ke saath meri madad karo(Okay, everyone, we're getting out of here! Dev, help me with the others.)

Anna and Dev worked in perfect synchronization, their shared history and unspoken understanding evident in every coordinated move.

Rajesh: (nervous) Be careful, Beta!

Dev: (reassuring) Don't worry, Dad. We've got this.

Anna and Dev assisted each family member one by one, ensuring they made it safely onto the rocky ledge.

Aarti: (clinging to Anna) Oh, Anna, mera dil ise bardaasht nahi kar sakata(my heart can't take this!)

Anna: (reassuring Aarti) Mummy ji, we're all going to make it. Just hold on.

Dev extended a helping hand to Aarti, ensuring she stepped onto the solid ground with utmost care.

Isha: (holding Lakhan) Anna, please Lakhan ko le jao. Main uske saath neeche nahi chadh sakata(take Lakhan. I can't climb down with him.)

Anna: (comforting Isha) Isha, don't worry. Hum use surakshit neeche utaar lenge(We'll get him down safely.)

Dev carefully received Lakhan, ensuring the little one felt secure in his uncle's arms.

Sunaina: (panicking) Isha, where's Deep? Is he okay?

Isha: (worried) Main nahi janta Sunaina. Hamen use dhoondne hoga(I don't know, Sunaina. We need to find him!)

As the family regrouped on the cliff, Anna and Dev took stock of the situation, their focus shifting to the missing family member.

Anna: (shouting) Deep! Deep, aap kahan hain(where are you?)

Deep is in the goons' clutches.

Isha: (panicking) Deep! Nahi, hamen use bachaana hai(No, we have to save him!)

Dev: (holding Isha back) Ishu, wait! Hamen ek yojana ki jaroorat hai. Agar hum jaldabaaji karenge to hum sab khatre mein pad jayenge(We need a plan. If we rush in, we'll all be in danger.)

Anna: (determined) Dev sahi hai. Hamen is baare mein rananeetik hone ki jaroorat hai(Dev's right. We need to be strategic about this.)

The goons held Deep captive, mocking him and reveling in their temporary victory.

Goon 1: (taunting) Is chatapataahat ko dekho. Ab itna kathin nahi hai, hai na(Look at this one squirming. Ain't so tough now, are ya?)

Deep: (defiant) Aap isase bach nahi payenge(You won't get away with this!)

While Isha continued to plead for her husband's safety, Dev and Anna observed the surroundings, planning their approach.

Anna: (whispering to Dev) Hamen unaka dhyaan bhatakna hoga. Main ek mod paida karoonga, aur tum Deep ke liye jao(We need to distract them. I'll create a diversion, and you go for Deep.)

Dev: (nodding) Got it. Be careful, Anna.

As Anna skillfully executed her diversion, creating a commotion on one side, Dev seized the opportunity to make his move towards Deep.

Goon 2: (confused) Vahan kya ho raha hai(What's happening over there?)

Anna: (shouting) Hey, you fools! Over here!

While the goons were momentarily distracted, Dev approached Deep, assessing the situation.

Deep: (whispering) Dev,unke paas bandooken hai. Hamen ek yojana ki jaroorat hai(they've got guns. We need a plan.)

Dev: (whispering back) Main doosri taraf ek mod banaunga. Jab main aisa karta hoon, to tum chattan ki or bhaagate ho. Hum vahan phir se ikattha honge(I'll create a diversion on the other side. When I do, you run towards the cliff. We'll regroup there.)

As Anna continued to draw the attention of the goons, Dev initiated his diversion, prompting chaos on the opposite side.

Goon 1: (shouting) There's another one! Get him!

While the goons rushed towards the new distraction, Deep seized the opportunity to break free and sprint towards the safety of the cliff.

Anna: (joining Dev) Let's get out of here. We've got to regroup with the others.

The family, still reeling from the recent chaos, huddled together for comfort and reassurance. Dev and Anna stood side by side, their eyes locked in an unspoken understanding of the danger surrounding them.

Anna: (smiling) We made it through, didn't we?

Dev: (nodding) Yeah, we did.

As Khushi ran towards her mom, the atmosphere suddenly shifted. The ominous silence was shattered by the deafening sound of gunshots.

Goon 3: (shouting) Aap itni aasani se door nahi ja rahe hain(You're not getting away that easily!)

The bullets pierced through the air, finding their way toward Anna. In that split second, Dev's instincts kicked in. With unparalleled swiftness, he positioned himself between Anna and the impending threat, taking the shots directly to his heart.

Dev: (grunting in pain) Anna!

Anna's heart stopped as she witnessed the unthinkable. Dev staggered backward, his body absorbing the impact of the bullets. The family gasped, frozen in shock and horror.

Khushi: (screaming) DAD!

Dev, now at the edge of the cliff, clutched his chest, feeling the searing pain of the bullets. Anna, her eyes wide with terror, rushed to his side.

Anna: (frantically) Dev!

Dev: (weakly) Anna, I... I love you.

Anna's eyes welled up with tears as she held onto Dev's fading strength. The ground beneath them started to crumble, the cliffs giving way to the tumultuous waters below.

Anna: (pleading) Dev,mujhe mat chodo(don't leave me!)

Dev: (smiling through the pain) Tumhe jaane dena hoga, Anna. Hamaare neeche chattaan toot rahi hai aur agar hamamen se kisi ne jaane nahi diya, to hum dono mar jayenge. Yah ek hi raasta hai(You have to let go, Anna. The cliff is breaking underneath us and if one of us don't let go, both of us will die. It's the only way.)

Anna, torn between holding on and letting go, saw the inevitable danger of the crumbling cliffs. Dev, with a tender touch, cupped her face.

Dev: (whispering) I love you, Anna. Hamesha(Always.)

With a heartbreaking resolve, Dev forced Anna's hands away, urging her to release her grip on him.

Anna: (sobbing) NAHI! DEV!

As Dev began to slip away, the family, watching in anguish, could only look on helplessly. The cliffs crumbled further, taking Dev into the depths below.

Dev: (whispering to Anna) Main hamesha tumhare saath hoon(I'll always be with you.)

The emergency team, with solemn expressions on their faces, gathered to search for Dev's body amidst the tumultuous waters and broken cliffs.

Rescue Worker 1: Yah ek khatarnak sthiti hai. Sabhi log satark rahen(It's a dangerous situation. Everyone, stay alert.)

The family, still in shock from witnessing the tragedy, huddled together on the edge of the cliff, anxiously awaiting any sign of Dev.

Khushi: (teary-eyed) Unhen use dhoondne hoga, hai na, Maa(They have to find him, right, Mom?)

Anna: (voice trembling) Yes, Khushi. They will do their best.

Divers plunged into the water, braving the currents and wreckage in search of Dev's body.

Rescue Diver: (over radio) Mujhe kuch mila hai. Yah vah ho sakata hai(I've found something. It might be him.)

The family held their breath, their eyes fixed on the diver resurfacing with a somber burden.

Rescue Diver: (with a heavy heart) I'm sorry. Humane use dhoondh liya(We found him.)

Anna, unable to contain her grief, collapsed to her knees, her heartache echoing through the desolate scene.

Anna: (whispering) No... Dev...

The rescue team carefully brought Dev's lifeless body to the surface. The family, engulfed in sorrow, approached with tear-stained faces.

Khushi: (choked up) Dad...

Isha: (embracing Khushi) Sab theek ho jayega, jaaneman(It's going to be okay, sweetheart.)

Rescue Worker 2: We'll give you some privacy.

Khushi: (sobbing) Aisa kyon hua? Dad nahi ja sakate(Why did this happen? Dad can't be gone!)

Isha: (teary-eyed) Is par vishwas karana bahut kathin hai. Vah hamari taqat ka stambh the(It's so hard to believe. He was our pillar of strength.)

Sunaina: (holding back tears) Hamen ek saath chuttiyon ka aanand lena tha(We were supposed to enjoy the vacation together.)

Hoshiyaar: (shaking his head) Dev bhai...mujhe vishwas nahi ho raha ki vah chala gaya hai(I can't believe he's gone.)

Tej: (angry and upset) This can't be real! He was everything to us.

Masoom: (clutching her heart) Mera bhai...vo hame aise kaise chod sakata hai(My brother... how could he leave us like this?)

Renu: (shaking her head) Anna di vahaan akela hai. vah kya karegi(is alone there. What will she do?)

Deep: (visibly shaken)  Dev mere liye mera bhai tha(was my brother to me.)

Rajesh: (heavy-hearted) Mere bete... maine kabhi nahi socha tha ki hum aisa din dekhenge(My son... I never imagined we'd see such a day.)

Aarti: (wiping her tears) Dev hamaari dhoop thee. Hum andhere ka samna kaise karenge(was our sunshine. How will we face the darkness?)

Amidst the heart-wrenching scene, the shock of Dev's demise overwhelmed Anna. As the waves crashed against the cliffs, a wave of unconsciousness swept over her. Anna's body, gripped by grief, could no longer bear the weight of the tragedy that unfolded before her.

Khushi: Mom! Mom, wake up! Please, wake up!

Isha: (checking her pulse) We need help! Someone call an ambulance!

Hoshiyaar: Kya aas paas koi doctor hai? Hamen yahaan madad ki jaroorat hai(Is there a doctor around? We need help here!)

English:

When I went out to search for my lover

I didn't find my lover

After igniting a fire within my heart, O Lord

You've written separation in my destiny

He's lost, he has disappeared

The one whom I had stolen from time

The one whom I had made mine

He was yours, he was mine

The one whom I had stolen from time

The dream that I had adorned

The bed sheet is finely woven

The bed sheet is finely woven

These eyes are wet

The memories are all finely woven

The bed sheet is finely woven

The bed sheet is finely woven

These eyes are wet

The memories are all finely woven

What kind of a meeting is this

Being together also feels like being lonely

Beloved, why am I being punished in this way

I want to live once again

I want to die for you

Beloved, my heart has once again cursed me

Why have you written separation in my destiny

I've become a stranger to myself, no one is mine

Become friends with pain, my heart tells me this

When I open my arms, then only grief embraces me

Why are these moments decreasing in front of my eyes

How can one bear separation

The bed sheet is finely woven

The bed sheet is finely woven

These eyes are wet

The memories are all finely woven

The bed sheet is finely woven

The bed sheet is finely woven

These eyes are wet

The memories are all finely woven

When I went out to search for my lover

I didn't find my lover

After igniting a fire within my heart, O Lord

You've written separation in my destiny
