15. IT Has Been Done

It's the day. The day for the downfall of Halima Audu Kalshingi. And Aleesha can't be any happier. Nothing can ever go wrong. Of course, nothing will go wrong. It's the one and only Humylash that planned it out and called the Paul man to take it out. Of course it'll work.

Aleesha wakes up feeling giddy, ecstatic, happy and propitious. Nothing will be able to ruin her mood even if it tried. She walks over to her suitcases, with a lilt to her steps. She takes out an army green French lace with black beads sewn into patterned flowers on it, a black turban and black Aldo flats. It isn't Friday, it's Thursday, yet she is getting all dolled up. Why? Well, that's because she will be going to be her Romeo's.

It has been done and now all she's waiting for is the good news and then she'll head out like a heroine, pretending to come for a visit. Lash comes inside chewing on her nails which is something she does when she's conflicted or doesn't have an idea what's happening.

"What happened? Hasn't your Paul done it yet?" Aleesha asks.

"He has but everything went wrong."

Paul dresses in his only new shirt and a pair of jeans. He sprays the perfume he stole from Humylash's home and walks outside looking cleaner than he has ever looked in all his thirty years of life.

For the first time in almost three years, Paul brushed his teeth, took a bath that lasted more than three minutes and also shaved his armpit. He always shaves his pubic area as it becomes too itchy or becomes a barrier between him and fulfilling his sexual desires.

He also used a deodorant which he stopped using after his primary school graduation, that was the last time he stepped a foot in school and his parents house. Where could his parents be now? Are they still in Benue? Are they even looking for him? Do they know he raped his younger sister? Either way, Paul doesn't care. He never cares about consequences, only kudi, ego, owo, money. That's all he cares about.

He sits in his working position, on a bench by the gate, in front of his room. As Sa'eed horns, he pushes the sliding gate open and closes it back once Sa'eed is inside. He goes over to where Sa'eed's room's window is located and climbs a ladder, the ladder he always climbs when ever he wants to eavesdrop.

"Baby, I only want Oreos and Bounty but you bought me Mars and Snickers. Ni wallahi dama Twix ka saya min." Halima rambles as she angrily taps her slipper clad feet on the tiles glaring angrily at Sa'eed who is trying to imitate puppy dog eyes.

"Oh stop with the twitching of the eyes. You look like a sleepy monkey." Halima says rolling her still red eyes. Last night, Sa'eed made her stay awake till three AM watching scary movies. He being the dramatic scaredy cat he is, refused to let her sleep saying the demon in the movie they watched would haunt her in her dreams.

So this morning, he finally let her sleep. Despite the two hours thirty minutes sleep she got, she looks like a zombie. Disheveled hair, swollen red eyes and puffy face is the definition of Halima's look this morning as she prepares breakfast for Sa'eed. She even mistook sugar for salt, adding sugar in the sauce she was making.

He had to eat it without any complaints whatsoever. Afterall it was his fault. After eating, she made him promise to get her chocolates, she even gave him the specific brands she wants. And that brings us to now. Sa'eed looks at her.

"Haba, baby. Pity your husband."

"Ba waninnan. Wallahi you must get me oreos and bounty. See in fact, you'll drop the snickers and mars here, get me my oreos and bounty while I eat the snickers and mars." Halima says snatching the nylon from him and tearing open one of the mars.

"Allah you're lucky I love you and I'm not a very Arewa-istic husband." Sa'eed says eying the snickers.

"Ahap. Nikam I want my oreos and bounty. Get me some Nutella too dan Allah." Halima says licking her fingers noisily in a bit to spite Sa'eed. Sa'eed takes a snickers and rushes out.

"Wallahi you'll know yourself." Halima says shaking her head in a warning way.

After finishing two bars of Mars and one bar of snickers Halima decides to get some sleep. Two minutes into her sleep, she feels a hand clasping her mouth. As she attempts to bite the person's hand, one hand goes under her blouse.

Sa'eed, that perverted hormonal teenager trapped in an adult's body! He hasn't gone to get her chocolates.

She succumbs and the hand gropes the mounds on her chest, making her close her eyes. The hand clasping her mouth let's go and starts touching her everywhere and anywhere.

Seeing that Sa'eed isn't planning on going to get her chocolates she smacks his hand. Looking at the person, she's met with the shock of her life.

"Paul?" Halima asks. Just as she's about to talk, Paul traps her mouth in a murderous kiss. As she raises her hand to push him away, a voice stills her.

"What in the Jahannam is happening here?" Paul quickly releases Halima's now swollen mouth and gets off the bed.

"Halima Audu Kalshingi and Paul I said what the hell is happening here?! So this is what you do when I leave you alone in this house?!" Sa'eed asks pointedly at Halima.

"Sa'eed? So you won't even wait for me to say anything and you're already accusing me?" Halima asks in a defeated voice, surprised that the person she's loved all her life is the same one standing here, accusing her of something she has no idea how it happened.

"What do you want me to do? Hug you and congratulate you for committing a sin?!" Sa'eed asks. He's getting angrier by the minute.

"Haba Sa'eed, the least you can do is listen to me. I'm your wife, it's my right to explain my self and it's your duty to listen to me. A muslim is supposed to be allowed seventy excuses," Halima says standing up.

"Just quit the Fiqh. Dama ai that's what you'll say," Sa'eed says and walks out.

"Haba Sa'eed listen to me!" Halima shouts crying exasperatedly as she runs after him.

"Okay. Even if you don't want to listen to me. I'll still say my mind." Halima says as she stands in front of Sa'eed who's sitting in the main parlor, watching nothing on the television.

Halima rushes inside the house where she meets a smirking Paul. She takes a handful of his colar and drags the surprised man to the parlor. Making him kneel before Sa'eed by kicking the back of his knees, Halima starts talking.

"Okay, so after you left. I ate three bars of chocolate and laid down to sleep. Kawai I felt a hand clasping my mouth. Har zanyi ihu {i was even going to shout}, I then decided to bite the person instead when I felt a hand under my blouse. Sai nazata kai ne {i then thought it was you} because I had forgotten that this idiot was even here in the first place. And I never thought he'd try something like that because wallahi i had trusted him..." Halima is cut off by Sa'eed.

"Of course you trust him." He hisses.

"Just listen mana, haba. Don't you trust me?" Halima asks furiously wiping her tears as more keeps streaming down her face like an uncontrollable waterfall.

"Trust." Sa'eed scoffs.

"Halima Audu Kalshingi how do you expect me to trust you?" Sa'eed asks.

"Toh shikenan. Don't trust me. Allah has seen my heart kuma wallahi once I explain this once and you don't believe me, I'm leaving this house. Why did you marry me if you never trusted me? So if someone comes to tell you they saw me with a man you'll believe them, koh? I should've known. Sa'eed thank you. You've proven my worth to you. You've shown me my place. Thank God that you showed me my place a month after marriage. At least I am not too attached to you." She lies. How can she say she isn't too attached to him. She has loved him all her life so it would be the lie of the year to say she isn't attached to him. Furiously wiping her tears, Halima continues.

"As I was saying. There was a man that came here last week and stole the necklace Maami gave mummy before she died. Paul ran after him and got his hand slit in a bid to get my necklace back. I even told you about it and you increased his salary.

"As I was saying, he started touching me anyhow. When I thought that you were doing it because you didn't want to buy me the chocolate, I smacked his hand away and turned to scold the person, thinking it was you when I saw Paul. As I was about to talk kawai he kissed me and that was when you came in." Halima concludes.

"And you expect me to believe this mountain of lies you've placed in front of me?" Sa'eed asks finally turning to look at her.

"I should've known," Halima says and turns to leave the parlor. As she turns to leave, she gets an idea. She turns back inside. She turns Paul to face her then lands a tight slap on his face, then another, then another, and another and a kick where the sun doesn't shine as she cries. She cleans her tears.

Going into the kitchen she comes with a knife and positions it under Paul's neck. All the while, Sa'eed has been looking at her from the corner of his eyes.

"Do you know what wallahi means? I'm sure you don't. Wallahi, if you don't open that your useless mouth and start spewing the truth I might have to slit your throat." Halima says as Paul blinks. He didn't think it would be like this.
