[21] Moony's Wedding

Perce accompanied me home to the Burrow and as the twins were still at their shop and no longer around to eavesdrop on us, I took him to my room to show him the proof I had.

I had kept the package Draco sent me hidden safely in a magical box in my cabinet. That box was a gift from Angelina that she had given me on my last birthday. It hid everything in it, showing only normal stuff like makeup if anyone other than the owner opened it.

I opened it and took that package out all while Percy was watching intently. Taking out those photographs, I showed them to him, while his eyes were wide in surprise.

"That is you," he remarked at last, going through every single picture, "You haven't changed much except for the hair color..."

"And I have grown taller and older," I interjected but the serious look on his face didn't fade.

"Who gave this to you?" He asked and I could tell that he had many questions.

I just wasn't sure whether I should tell him about Draco or not. Thinking of Draco didn't sit right with me either. It made me think of Katie and the Dark Mark and the vision I had had about him witnessing a death...

"Katerina, you okay?" Percy's concerned voice shook me out of my thoughts.

"Yeah... Yeah, I am fine."

I had closed my eyes briefly and when I opened them again, Percy had made me sit on the bed. He looked concerned as he asked, "If you need water or anything..."

But I shook my head, "I am okay. I just got lost in thought."

"Okay, if you say so."

His eyes had flickered back to the pictures, especially the one in which Narcissa and Lucius Malfoy were standing with us. A family portrait that no one would find in Malfoy Manor now.

"Does Malfoy know?" He asked, hazel eyes locked with mine to judge my reaction, "Does he remember you?"

"Actually... Draco sent me this package," I felt like I shouldn't lie to him. Percy was only trying to help me out and I could trust him. Plus it felt better to tell at least someone about everything and get that weight off my chest.

"So what are you going to do now? I find it strange that Lucius Malfoy would keep silent for so long," he mumbled, voicing out the very thought I had when Draco told me everything, "unless he really doesn't want you back."

It kind of made sense now that if I was the result of a hushed relationship with Evelyn Everhart, then he would have wanted me to stay as far away from them as possible. But there was a prophecy connected to me too and Draco thought that was the reason his father wanted to distance themselves from me.

"I am not sure if Draco knows about our mothers being different," I spoke up, knowing that could be the case, "I had a vision about Narcissa and Evelyn. Whatever happened was a secret between them only and Evelyn kept asking her to keep me safe..."

"Safe but from what? From Lucius Malfoy?"

No...

"From a curse," the words slipped my mouth and Percy's eyes darkened, realizing what I meant.

The Everhart family was bound by a curse that was said to be the reason behind their demise.

I looked at Percy and could see the gears in his head moving as if he was trying to figure out what to do next. At last, he spoke up, "I can take you to meet my colleague who was at school with the Everhart twins. Or we could go to St. Mungo's and ask about Evelyn. Perhaps we can find something there."

I nodded but a foreboding feeling settled in my heart. It was as if something was warning me not to dig deeper into the past. A warning that felt something would go horribly wrong for all of us if I meddled further.

Percy's offer was still on the table but the dreadful feeling in my heart increased. It felt like if I tried to find out more about the Everharts, it would end up awfully for me.

I had never felt such a strong foreboding feeling in my heart. Even though I would normally neglect that feeling and do things anyway, that once I decided against it.

Besides with Moony and Dora's wedding right around the corner, I got occupied with other tasks very quickly. And I didn't get any time to visit St. Mungo's with Percy.

The wedding was a very private event and was going to be held in the Burrow's backyard. Our backyard opened up to the forest so there was ample space for setting up the whole venue.

All of us worked together to make sure that Moony and Dora had their perfect day in a beautiful garden spot as we transformed our backyard into their ideal wedding venue. A floral arch adorned the place where they would take their vows and we fixed up an aisle flanked by flower beds on either side.

It looked beautiful, right out of a fairytale.

Kingsley Shacklebolt was going to officiate the wedding, Mum had looked after all the food that had to be served. The guests mainly included Dora's family, Order members, and a few of their friends from Hogwarts.

I spotted Remus standing in the corner and he looked rather forlorn. I knew exactly what he must be feeling as a past conversation between him, Sirius and I flickered in my memory.

None of his friends were there to be his Best Man.

So I went up to him, intending to talk to him so that he would feel better. Of course, I couldn't fill the place of his two best friends but we knew each other from those days too.

"Congratulations Moony," I spoke up and my voice took him by surprise as he turned to see me.

"Kat...? Thank you."

"Now I know I can't be your Best Man but I am still here, y'know," I remarked, holding back the tears in my eyes as I didn't want all that mascara to run off.

His eyes softened and he smiled at my words. For that instant, he almost looked like the Moony I met for the first time. The only difference was that now he was older, his hair were turning grey and more scars dented his skin.

Other than that, he was still Moony, the kind-hearted Marauder who had always looked out for me and treated me as a younger sister.

"I would love it if you give the Best Man speech," he spoke up, much to my surprise, "seriously."

"Well... Alright, if you say so." I couldn't say no to him on his special day. If he wanted me to give a speech on behalf of the Marauders then I will.

The others might find it strange but what does it really matter? What matters most is Moony's happiness.

The wedding proceeded as Dad walked Dora down the aisle, Andromeda Tonks was standing with Mum and I could see tears in her eyes too. The vows were uttered and the rings were exchanged between the happy couple.

Finally, Moony and Tonks were pronounced man and wife. Then it was time for the speeches.

Fred was ecstatic as he invited the Maid of Honor, Dora's best friend from school days, Martha Stewart, onto the stage. While she was giving her speech, I was looking down at the piece of paper in my hands where I was trying to articulate my thoughts.

I had so much to say for Moony my best friend but not many people knew about the time travel so I couldn't just say everything on my mind. And if I just introduced Moony as Professor Lupin then that would be way too formal for a Best Man speech.

But then it was time for the speech and Remus leaned over to Fred to tell him who to call. Fred's eyes flickered in surprise but then he nodded, taking his place at the dainty podium again.

"It's only fitting that the Best Man speech for a legendary prankster should be given by another brilliant mischief maker," Fred announced, using the puns intentionally as he was aware of the real identities of the Marauders. "Please welcome, our lovely sister and Rem's Best Man or Woman if you're being very gender specific; Katerina Weasley!"

I took the enchanted mic from him but my heart was beating fast as I faced all those people in front of me. And it struck me that I had never given a speech before.

I might have given lectures as the Head Girl at Hogwarts and that was totally different from now. But then I looked at Remus and Tonks who were both smiling at me, eager to hear what I had to say.

Well, here goes nothing then...

"Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests, and especially the radiant couple, Remus and Dora," I began after taking a deep breath to steady my racing heartbeat, "I am standing here on behalf of Remus' Best Men; James Potter and Sirius Black. So yeah, I do have very big shoes to fill and even though I can't be half as funny as them, I hope to give my best..."

I was very nervous. But Rem's encouraging nod and Dora's lovely smile encouraged me to keep going.

"If they were here, they would have been the life and soul of the party," my voice quivered but I willed myself to continue, "and Remus, they might have been mightily impressed with Dora's ability to get you to tie the knot."

Laughter erupted from some of the audience and Moony nodded too, knowing I was right.

"Dora, you are very lucky to marry a man who is so full of compassion and love. And Remus, Dora might seem fierce to you but she's exactly the sort of person you need to bring all the colors back in your life. I am sure if James and Sirius were here, they would have congratulated you both heartily but even if they are not here, they must be watching from the heavens above, wishing you the happiest of years to come."

I remembered what Moony had jokingly said to Padfoot and me back when he had almost walked in on us after the Spring Ball fiasco. So I couldn't resist adding it as well, to be our bittersweet inside joke.

"In the end, I would like to add that may God bless the love this vibrant couple has and bless them for the years to come in staying united as one through thick or thin, good times or bad, and... And... Even in these dark times, may they be each other's source of light. Amen."

Remus remembered it too and I could see his eyes glisten with tears. I was on the verge of crying too as all those memories rushing in undoubtedly reminded me of Sirius and how glad he would have been to see his best mate getting married.

But I tried to keep the tears at bay and concluded my speech, "So, without further ado, let's raise our glasses to Remus and Tonks - the most magical couple we know. Or as James and Sirius would put it; to Moony and his moonlight, Dora."

Cheers erupted and some people even stood up to applaud the speech. I don't think I said anything extraordinary, it was just what came to my head in the moment.

I felt something wet streak down my face and realized that those tears I was trying to hold back had now rolled down my cheeks. I left the stage, excusing myself to go and fix the running mascara but before I could disappear, I saw Remus and Tonks standing in front of me.

"Kat, that was beautiful," Dora had taken both my hands in hers and I nodded, not finding my voice to speak up just yet.

Remus noticed and he knew exactly how I was feeling so he exchanged a glance with Dora who nodded gently and then he said, "We would like to say thanks in our own way."

And right next moment, I was engulfed in a tight hug by the bride and groom. Trust me when I say, I would never forget the moment.
