[15] To Be A Seer

I had been disturbed about many things lately, to say the very least.

Finding out that I was Draco's sister, that Lucius Malfoy himself had sent me away from the family, and Draco had become a Death Eater unwillingly was too much to take in just a day. He had also told me that I was a Seer and there was a Prophecy attached to me that was the reason his father wanted to keep me away from them.

Professor Trelawney used to say that I was a Seer, but I had always dismissed her words as mere assumptions. Then the whole time travel thing happened and the prophecy she had made in front of me about balances being disrupted came true.

She might know about the prophecy Draco was talking about but I could no longer talk to her about it as after getting sacked from Hogwarts, she had gotten very mentally upset. So talking to her about my problems, especially those kept a secret for so long, wasn't a wise decision.

Mum and Dad knew about my connection to the Malfoys too but they also kept it a secret. It only made me more bewildered about what exactly my purpose was in that complex web of fate.

But then the Quidditch Season started and with all the matches and the preparation that went into it, I was temporarily distracted from confronting my reality.

However, one night after having a particularly tiring day, I was hoping to get some sleep but got struck with a vision instead.

I had just closed my eyes and was sinking into the comforting realm of deep sleep when a chilling cold shook me out of it. It was the strangest feeling ever because I knew I was half asleep and my eyes were closed but I could see things start to materialize without it even being a dream.

It felt like a distant memory, like the one I had seen years ago when I had first cast a Patronus charm.

I found myself in a dark and desolate place, not much unlike the terrifying cells at Azkaban. The cold chilled through my bones but I kept moving forward, intent to find out the reason I was brought into that memory.

At last, I found a dim light and followed it coming to a blank white room that reminded me more of the asylum than Azkaban. But the occupants of the room were what shocked me to my wit's end.

Narcissa Malfoy was standing there but she looked much younger than I had last seen her. But the woman she was talking to was chained to her bed and probably around the same age as the younger version of Narcissa.

I stepped closer to look at the other woman more clearly but got a shock, stumbling back in alarm.

It was almost like I was looking into a mirror and seeing my reflection instead. That woman looked exactly like me, the only difference was that she had messy dark hair.

Narcissa looked pained to see her in such a state and she took the seat beside the bed, taking her bruised hands in her own.

"Evelyn, I am so sorry," her voice was a whisper so I had to step closer to listen. Besides, they wouldn't be able to see me, I knew now that it was a vision from the past.

Still, seeing the woman chained to the bed was quite unnerving. I couldn't shake off the dreadful feeling that there was some connection between us. Her eyes were the same shade of bright green that Professor Trelawney said was a characteristic of Seers.

I had those green eyes too and even if I really was a Malfoy, neither Narcissa nor Lucius Malfoy had that green eye color. I couldn't have inherited it from them.

"Cynthia... Where is Cynthia?" That woman named Evelyn seemed quite panicked as she asked, and that question made me even more certain that there was a link between us too.

"She is with us," Narcissa reassured her, "you don't have to worry about her."

"Keep her safe," those green eyes were frantic and her grip tightened on Narcissa's hands, "please... Promise me that you will keep my girl safe."

"I will, I promise."

"I am trusting you, Cissa. I am trusting you with everything I have held dear," Evelyn's face had gone frighteningly pale but she held onto Narcissa as she spoke, "I don't think I have long left to live either way. I want you to make sure that Cynthia doesn't meet a similar fate as I did. Please..."

A tear streaked down Narcissa's beautiful eyes and she nodded, holding her hand close to her as if she cherished her a lot, "I will do anything it takes to protect her. You have my word. I... I wish I could have done more for you too."

"It's no use thinking about that. I forgive you. I do. Just keep Cynthia safe and that's all I ask."

Before I could hear more of the conversation, a painful jolt brought me out of the vision and I woke up exasperated. I was back in my room at the teachers' lodgings at Hogwarts, my heartbeat was frantic and what I had just seen was flashing in front of my eyes.

If I was Cynthia and that woman Evelyn called me her girl, did that mean I wasn't Narcissa's daughter at all?

It could be possible that she was friends with Evelyn and had taken in her daughter after her death... That could explain why Lucius would want me gone from the family, and why he would take extreme measures to make sure that I stayed away from the wizarding world.

But still, it was all so confusing that it made my head hurt.

What was I supposed to believe?

It was hard already trying to accept that I was a Malfoy but now there was something else that masked my true identity.

It all pointed in one direction; that prophecy that Draco had mentioned seemed to be the root cause of it all. He didn't know about what it was but it was clear who could answer all my questions.

Narcissa knew about both the prophecy and the mysterious Evelyn that I had just seen in my vision. Only she could tell me about my past and from where I got my abilities to be a Seer.

No matter what Draco said, if I had to find the truth, I had to talk to Narcissa about it.
