Plot twist time :)))

Ever since the events that happened on the day of Qi-Xi, Wei Wuxian has been looking at Lan Wangji and Wu Ming weirdly. Particularly, them together weirdly. He is always smiling, as if he knows something that they don't. He finds excuse to leave early, but let's them be together ─ where, the two haters play war of words.

"Hey, Lan Zhan," Wei Wuxian said one day as they walked from Wei Wuxian's class, after he was done teaching. "You know, i have been noticing something with you and Wu Ming lately. Something weird." Wei Wuxian sways with his words.

"Ironic. I've been seeing you be unusual lately as well." Lan Wangji comments. Wu Ming wasn't with them. He was waiting in the meadows for them to arrive. It was just the two of them for now.

"Really? Well, i just wanna let you two know that I'm supportive!"

"Of what?"

"Of you two! Together?"

"What?"

Wei Wuxian chuckled. "Lan Zhan, no need to put up the pretense, i know, you both are lovers, right? I know, the society isn't very open about cut sleeves. But i am always gonna support you two, you know! And i am pretty sure, everyone here would!"

"What!?" Lan Wangji yelled, eyes wide. Okay, he didn't yell. But it was the highest he had ever gone in his voice. "Why would you think so?"

"Well, i know you two fucked that day, after our swim in the lake on the Qi-Xi festival day." Wei Wuxian elbowed Lan Wangji playfully.

Lan Wangji chocked on air, coughing. The mere thought of being in love with that bastard, let alone doing something so unholy, makes him gag. "How did you reach in that conclusion?"

"Well, that night, i just went back to lake, i had forgotten my hair ribbon there. And you know, i saw the white stuff on the grass. I mean, i don't want to embarrass you or anything, but i understand what it was, i am a man too, you know."

"Wei Ying, you are getting it wrong." Lan Wangji shook his head. "That... That white stuff was what you are thinking the other day. But we did not share intercourse of any sort. We are not in love. That was Wu Ming handling his personal business, i am no way related. We are not lovers. You are getting it wrong."

"Wait, for real? You two did not fuck?" Wei Wuxian asked, confused and serious. Lan Wangji shook his head. "Then why do you two keep staring at each other constantly? Isn't it because you are sharing love glances?"

"No, Wei Ying, no." Lan Wangji sighed. He could not tell Wei Wuxian what the stares were about. And how he had assumed their hate for love. "Wei Ying, i cannot explain it to you at the moment, but there nothing nearest to romantic between me and Wu Ming."

"Oh- damn." Wei Wuxian laughed awkwardly. "Can we pretend i never said this? Hehe. Silly me. I am dumb, am i not."

Indeed, Wei Wuxian was. It was not the first time he accused Lan Wangji to be having an affair with someone else while Lan Wangji has been lovesick for him since their teenage. Yet, he would never notice. "Mn."

Soon, they meet up with Wu Ming in the meadows. It was easy for Wei Wuxian to get over the awkward talk, but not for Lan Wangji. This time, Lan Wangji began doubting things. How could Wei Wuxian see a love that does not exist, but not see one that does.

Either Wei Wuxian is genuinely idiotic enough to not understand the long yearned love of Lan Wangji, or, he does realise it, but is pushing it away and pretending to not realise it. Being one of the smartest and cleverest people of their generation, it was impossible for Wei Wuxian to have never realised Lan Wangji's feelings at all.

Then ... Why is he avoiding it?

Obviously, Wei Wuxian was pushing away those feelings. Pretending they don't exist. Pairing Lan Wangji with others to change his mind or something. Wei Wuxian is doing it purposefully. But... Why?

When Lan Wangji broke out of his thoughts, Wei Wuxian was laughing, climbing on a tall tree. Wei Wuxian was always good at this stuff, playing around. He gets on a branch, not to high. He could jump from there and land perfectly, but it may hurt a little in his leg.

Suddenly. Wei Wuxian stopped in his movements. He looked down. Looked at the ground. It wasn't the first time he was looking at the ground from so high. In fact, he has been higher. Everytime Wei Wuxian climbed on a tree as a child, his sister would be there.

Wei Wuxian is not scared of falling. He has fallen many times, from worse places. And he still is here, alive. But his sister would not be there now to hold him. She would not aid his woulds. She would not make him hot warm soup to comfort him.

She wasn't there.

Jiang Yanli, was not there anymore.

She never would be.

And even though Wei Wuxian had never been afraid of falling before, he was now. Not of falling, but of the care he won't recieve after. Wu Ming and Lan Wangji looked at him with concern, seeing the sad expression ok his face. "Ying Gege, are you alright there?"

"If i fell from here... Would you catch me?" Wei Wuxian asked, lost in his tone.

Wu Ming, who was directly under him on the ground, was silent for a moment. "Hey, are you scared to come down? You could... You could jump from there, i will catch you."

Wei Wuxian did.

He didn't jump, he let his body fall down the branch. Instantly, he was in warm arms. He could not recognise who, but they were warm. He wasn't crying. He wasn't. But he needed to stay in that warmth longer.

Wu Ming looked concerned at Wei Ying in his arms, and then at Lan Wangji. It was not a war between them when it came to Wei Wuxian's wellbeing. It was the first time since Wei Wuxian had gotten much better that he had a meltdown suddenly.

But that wasn't Lan Wangji's concern at the moment. Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji knows, will get back to himself in sometime. He knows, he is stronger than that. Lan Wangji was rather concerned that ... Wei Wuxian was in Wu Ming's arms.

It was not jealousy, no, far from it. It was guilt. The guilt of knowing now, that why Wei Wuxian has been pushing his feelings away till now. It was because...

Because he never loved him.

And will probably never do. At this rate, at least. Surely, Wei Wuxian loves him as a friend, and as a companion. But Lan Wangji would never earn his romantic love.

Right then, looking at Wei Wuxian and Wu Ming, Lan Wangji knew that. Seeing the soft chemistry between the two, Lan Wangji knew that.

When Wei Wuxian asked Wu Ming, "You won't ever leave me, would you?", from the desperation in his eyes, Lan Wangji knew that.

When Wu Ming responded, "I wouldn't, never.", from the concern and utter love in his eyes, Lan Wangji knew it.

Lan Wangji knew it, that Wei Wuxian would never love him how he loves Wei Wuxian.
