Beginning After The End
The truth is that it is easier to tell that he can stay, try to be happy again, but not so much to actually do it.
Lady Baoshan had diagnosed Wei Wuxian with post-trauma stress disorders, anxiety, and some levels of depression. It further let to insomnia and eating disorders. Lady Baoshan mentioned it to his parents, but not directly to him.
She didn't want Wei Wuxian to think that he was being treated specially because of his conditions. With his current condition, if he thinks in this manner, he will run away frightened. Instead, Lady Baoshan tried to make it a home for Wei Wuxian there.
They, especially Lady Cangse, had decorated a room for Wei Ying like a child's. Wei Wuxian didn't mind at all. He mostly liked the floral essence burning. He also appreciated the soft cotton toys that were used by smaller kids.
They are useful to hold when he cried.
And it is not like Wei Wuxian doesn't try to speak up with his parents, tell them why he is sad. He wants to. But somewhere he is also scared, that they might not like him the same if they see how weak he is.
He tries to fake a smile once in a while, trying to convince people he is fine, even when he is not. But it rarely ever works.
Some of the young disciples of Grandmaster try to call him for nighthunts, or to join them on a trip to the market downtown. But he never feels like going.
A-Niang tries to make variety of delicious meals for him. Her buns aren't burnt anymore the way he remembered them being when he was a kid. He tries to eat, but not more than two bites. Once, he tried to eat everything on the plate, to see his mother happy, and she really was, but only for sometime before he threw it all up, and stayed sick for the whole day.
Everyone around him is trying so hard to make him happy. But he is just sitting, doing nothing, making everyone's life worse.
"Wei-Qianbei?" A deep but gentle voice called. Wei Wuxian wiped his tears off to see who it was. It was Wu Ming, the eldest amongst the learning disciples there. "Are you alright?"
"Y-yeah, i am fine." Wei Ying said, smiling up. "What's up?"
Wu Ming smiled back gently. "Nothing much. I was just going to the back hill for passing time. Would you like to join?"
"Err, is everyone going?" Being honest, Wei Wuxian didn't want to go in crowd at the moment. So eventhough the idea of strolling over the grasslands sounded good, he'd rather stay alone here, in his quite, dark room.
"Not really, just me and you." Wu Ming said.
Well, if it is only two people, it's not the worst of an idea.
So that is how Wei Wuxian now found himself walking through the pasture. Wei Wuxian hasn't been here before, but has heard about it from other kids. And the place really lives up to its reputation.
Fresh green grass, spotted with bright white and yellow and orange and pink flower bushes. A shallow stream of sparkling clear water, shining under the sunlight. Brisk, cool air gently brushing over his skin.
Wu Ming was a nice guy. He didn't spend time in unnecessary small talks, make things awkward. The silence between them was comfortable. He was even good looking. A tall height, a few inches over Wei Ying's. Slender yet muscular figure. Smooth, straight, dark hair which bounced a little below his hips. Slightly tanned and toned skin with dark blue eyes and pale pink lips. He had a deep seductive voice, but his polite words always made him sound gentler.
"Do you like bunnies?" Wu Ming asked.
Wei Ying was taken aback for a second, coming out of his daydreaming report. "Bunnies? Ahh, yes. I do. But, like, for eating or petting?" To that, Wu Ming chuckled, softly held Wei Ying's hand, and guided him to another path.
A little over a few big rocks, Wei Wuxian saw there, a colony of white and brown and black rabbits. Wu Ming picked a bunny, softly rubbing it's back. "You wanna hold it?" He asked. Wei nodded.
Wei Wuxian carefully held the little fluffy bunny given to him. He passive-agressively pet the rabbit between it's ears in his own manner.
It was truly fun to hang out with Wu Ming. He was fun to talk to. He told Wei Wuxian how Lady Baoshan is a big lover of bunnies and hence got them petted in her back hill. He also stated how playing with bunnies help reduce stress.
Now, they laid down on the soft grass enjoying the setting sun. "Wei-Qianbei, close your eyes, feel the nature around you." Wu Ming said. Wei Wuxian did. He shut his eyes. And enjoyed his surroundings.
The gentle wind softly whistling a soft music. The scent of the beautiful flowers around them. The rippling sound of the water running in the background. A small smile smile laid on Wei Wuxian's face when he recalled the bunnies that he played with.
The soft music gradually changed to the ugly melody of screams and cries. The air smelled like rotten blood and burning fire. The schwing of the swords in the background creating a terror. And somehow, Wei Wuxian was back at the nightless city, breathing through the same nightmare.
His Jie was motionless on the ground. Madam Yu and uncle Jiang fell over each other with daggers pierced through them. Wen Qing and Wen Ning burning out in front of him. His Wen family covered in blood. And they all synchronised, saying, Wei Wuxian! Wei Wuxian! Wei Wuxian!
His heart was palpitating, head was stirring, tears were gushing down his eyes, he couldn't breathe, he was trying to scream but he couldn't, and when he extended his arms to reach out to their dead bodies ─
"-ianbei! Wei-Qianbei!" The voice slowly percolated through him as he opened his eyes. Reflexively, he reached out to wipe his cheek off the burning tears. He looked beside him. Wu Ming had a frightened and worried expression.
"I-i am sorry, Wu Ming, I-" but Wei Wuxian was out of words to be able to complete the sentence. Wu Ming gently reached out and wiped the tears off Wei Wuxian's face.
"It's alright." He said maturely. "Do you want to talk about it?"
Wei Wuxian stayed silent. He shook his head. "It's ... It's my past, and it's very dark. You don't want to hear it."
"It's about your past." Wu Ming repeats. "But weren't you suppose to leave it behind?"
Wei Wuxian blinked. "Huh?"
"I do not know that well, but you are here so that you can forget your past and live a new life, no?" Wu Ming said. And he was absolutely right. "Then what is the use of it if you just wanna keep recalling your past, and not move on. I do not know what happened with you, but i know, that this chance that you have got, everyone doesn't get it."
Wu Ming was silent for a long time, before he said again, "When i was five years old, i used to live in the streets. I barely would get a single meal in a day. But every night, my mother would dress up well, and go somewhere. I was young and naive. I thought she went to parties, leaving her kid to starve alone. I was very angry. So one night, impulsively... I stabbed her."
He paused.
"I hadn't meant to make her heart stop beating. I just wanted to give her some pain as punishment. But i later grasped that she wasn't gonna get up. It wasn't until i was older that i realised that my mother didn't go to any banquets or parties. She was a prostitute who worked a dirty job so that i could have at least one meal in a day."
"Baoshan-Ma had given me a second chance then. It was easier to keep crying over what i had done, difficult to come over it. Unless you let go of your past, you won't be able to reach out for your future." Then chuckling once, He said again, "I don't know why told all this to you, we have barely known each other. I just thought you'd understand it."
Wei Wuxian gets what Wu Ming meant to say.
"I do. Thank you."
Because i want all of us to simp on yet another second lead simultaneously, here is how Wu Ming is supposed to look like:
