A-Niang, Die-Die

Wei Wuxian could not sleep that night. Not because he had any stress up his mind, but because he knew the nightmares that were going to flash up his mind when he closes his eyes. Sleep had favoured him the last night because he had Lan Zhan to warm him up.

But today he his alone again. Lonely, isolated, cold. He could have asked Lan Zhan to hug him to sleep, but he couldn't ask that to others here. None of them are as close. He wished Lan Zhan was here.

Now his eyes teared. He missed Lan Zhan. He wanted to really sleep. He was so fucking tired. It's probably past ten. The student dormitory must have already closed for him to even ask Wu Ming, the closest friend he had here.

This place is the nearest to heaven where Wei Wuxian had been, then why does it still sting like the nightmares of hell of the burial mounds?

"A-Niang ... Die-Die ..." He murmured, missing them. If they were here, they wouldn't make him feel so lonely, they'd be here for him. They'd ─

Hold on, but his parents are here! Why had he forgotten!?

But would they find him immature and weak if he asks to sleep with them?

It doesn't matter, they are his parents. They would never think wrong of him.

After a while of arguing with himself, Wei Wuxian picked up his pillow and duvet, and proceeded his steps towards his parents bedroom, before he could think otherwise. It's his parents, not monsters, what's there to be afraid of?

The door to the bedroom was open. Wei Wuxian slowly peaked inside, to make sure he wasn't disturbing them. His mother was combing through her hair, freshly oiled, and his father wasn't seen around. He slowly knocked on the door.

"A-Niang?"

His mother didn't seem to notice at first, so he knocked a little louder, and called again, "A-Niang." His mother stopped in her movements for a second, but just shook her head and resumed, without looking up.

Is she mad at me? Was the first question Wei Wuxian thought.

So one last time, with hope, Wei Wuxian knocked and called, "A-Niang! It's me ... Wei Ying." It was then when Lady Cangse looked up at him, eyes glossy.

She got up from the bed and walked to the door to him, cupping his face with one hand. "Ying-Er ... You are indeed here. Yo-you just called me... What did you just call me?"

Oh, yeah.

Wei Wuxian didn't address her as Lady Wei, Or Mistress Cangse, or Madam Wei. The word A-Niang just slipped out of his tongue naturally. He gave her a little smile. "A-Niang " he said with some light confidence.

A smile emerged on his mother's face. She glowed like a winter lily in its full bloom. The dark in her eyes sparkled with something Wei Ying was unknown of. She wiped her eyes. "Ahh, Ying-Er, come and sit, why are you standing? Come." She held his wrist and took him to the bed, making him sit on the edge of it. She rubbed his shoulder lovingly. "Say, what's up? How are you here this late? Do you need something."

"Where's... Die-Die?" Wei Wuxian asked.

"Die-Die? Yes, Die-Die will come, don't worry. He just went to wash his face." Lady Cangse then stroked his head. And it felt so damn comforting under her hand. He wished he had this hand back then too, when he needed it. And he is so grateful to have it now, even for a moment.

And immediately, Wei Changze came back too. "A-Se, i have got your jasmine lubricant if you are in mood for-"

"Wei-Wei! Ying-Er is here! Come sit." Lady Cangse said, her tone a little forced. Wei Wuxian tried to ignore the immediate thought that had come to his mind.

"O-oh." Wei Changze immediately put away the vial of oil. The expression on his face went from meh to surprised to embarassed. Wei Ying chuckled. His father came and sat to the other side of him.

"Die-Die."

Wei Changze's face went shocked again. Eyes a little wide, he looked across to Lady Cangse, who just nodded with a smile. Then she pointed at herself, mouthing, A-Niang, then pointed at him and mouthed, Die-Die.

Wei Changze had a big smile on his face. He looked at Wei Wuxian, "Ying-Er, would you say that again?"

"Die-Die." Wei Wuxian said. It was such a refreshing feeling just to see his parents smile after addressing them as mother and father. He had never seen such a big smile on his parents face. As if they were in the top of the world.

"What brings you here, Ying-Er? Anything wrong? You need anything? Die-Die will get it for you right away." Wei Changze said.

"It's nothing. I wasn't able to sleep, so i was hoping to sleep between you guys, if you don't mind." But then remembering what little present his dad had got and what it probably would be for, he continued, "but it's alright, if you two have... err... other plans."

And Wei Ying swears he caught his mother glare across at his father for a moment. "We don't have any plans, Ying-Er. Of course we don't mind you sleeping here." His mother said, ruffling his hair, and then continued, "But hey, is everything alright? Why aren't you able to sleep suddenly?"

"Nothing much, my head was aching a little." Now, Wei Wuxian hadn't exactly lied, his head did have an ache. But he didn't say the whole truth either. He didn't want to worry his parents much.

"Aiyo, why is my Ying-Er's head aching?" Lady Cangse said. Wei Ying felt as if he was still four. He smiled, and kept his head on his mother's shoulder, who was still stroking his head. He just shook his head.

"Ying-Er, do you want me to massage your head? You will feel better. Then we can go to sleep. Hm?" His father suggested. Wei Ying nodded his head affirmatively.

Wei Changze sat at the head of the bed, with Wei Ying in front of him. Their heights almost matched. Lady Cangse insisted on Wei Ying to spread his legs for comfort.

Wei Ying closed his eyes as his father massaged his head, using a fragrant oil. It is the same oil which he had smelled off his mother, A-Ying guessed. His father's strong fingers pressed the pressure points perfectly, bringing him comfort.

He then felt his feet being massaged as well. When he opened his eyes, it was his mother pressing his slightly swollen feet. "A-Niang." He tried to stop her, for it wasn't appropriate for a woman, especially his mother, to touch his feet like that.

"It's alright, let me." His mother said in a soothing tone. He just nodded, and let her do as she wished. He closed his eyes back. It felt good. He could feel his bodily tension leaving.

"Ying-Er, do you remember, i used to massage your head with oil every night like this when you were small." His father said. "Now you have grown so big and tall, soon to cross your Die-Die's height as well."

But Wei Wuxian couldn't hear the later half. He was forcing his brain to remember when his father had massaged his head. All his youth, he had worked hard on forgetting each and every memories of his past because they haunted him. He didn't want to remember how his parents loved him, because he'd crave for that love again and couldn't get it. He had forgotten all their memories, sad and happy. Because missing them was terrible, he was miserable.

"I don't remember." Wei Wuxian said bluntly. "I don't remember anything. I don't want to remember anything. Don't remind me."

"Ying-Er! Ying -Er, why are you crying?" Soon Wei Wuxian had two pairs of hands wiping away the tears he didn't realise shedding. But he could not dare to open his eyes, afraid to see how he has made his parents sad again. "It's alright, you don't have to remember anything. I'm sorry, Die-Die is sorry."

Wei Wuxian was a sobbing mess. "W-why did you disappear? Why did you leave me alone? I needed you so bad then. Why, why, why!?" Even when he opened, he couldn't see anything, his vision blurred.

His mother softly wiped his tears. "I'm... I'm sorry Ying-Er. We shouldn't have gone to the hunt that night. We were attacked on, went in coma for almost three years. When we woke up, we searched a lot for you. We couldn't find you. We weren't aware that Sect leader Jiang had taken you in. We thought... We thought you were..."

Within minutes, whole of the small family were crying, holding onto each other, until they fell asleep just like that.

"I'm sorry, A-Niang. I'm sorry, Die-Die."
