A Broken Hammer
I built a fortress in a tree,
As high as it can be
Every time I stare at it,
I become as happy as I can be
Then I brought friends along,
To laugh and play with me
One, two, three of them came,
And we were like a happy family
I got attached to the friends I had,
Because they made me who I was
We played with toys till the moon rose,
And like bees we returned to our homes with a buzz
The next day we did it all over again,
Laughed, played and shared stories
But one friend seemed very off,
They didn't seem to adore me
I ask them "what's wrong? is everything ok?"
They said: "Nah, I'm fine" and we continued to play
Same thing as before,
We played till the moon
Some of us didn't want to go,
Because it would be too soon
The next day has arrived,
So I wait for my friends
But only one of them came,
And I wasn't good at playing pretend
They didn't have a good look on their face when they arrived,
In fact, their face almost tore me alive
"What's wrong?" I ask. "Did I do something wrong?"
"You're fortress is ugly" They said as they came along
"Wait, how? I built it myself!"
"It's plain and boring. There's not even a shelf"
After they said that,
I cried on the inside
It surfaced up to my throat,
And spilled to the outside
"I thought we were friends!" I yelled and pouted
"You're not really a friend" They glared and shouted
They walked away,
And the door slammed shut
Now I'm left all alone,
With nothing but my hut
I wanted to throw up,
I could feel it in my gut,
I treated them fairly,
But they see me as a mutt
"Where did I go wrong? What did I do?"
"How could things go wrong out of the blue?"
"I've lost everyone that I liked"
"Everyone whom I thought was true"
And then I went up into my fortress,
Looked up and down
Until I spotted a hammer
That was laying down
It was broken
It had no top
I swiftly got out the fortress,
And went to my dad's shop
I saw him working on another project,
"Hey dad, look what I found" I said
Then he looked up and stared at the object
"Ah, a broken hammer. Where did you find it?"
"I found it in my fortress"
"Well, lets take a look at it"
"Hey, dad. What do you do when friends leave you?"
"Just like this broken hammer there's nothing you can do"
"But they just left me, like I was nothing to them"
"And this hammer use to be useful, now it's just a stem"
My dad put the hammer down and walked towards me
His hazel eyes sparkled like honey on a tree
"Son, some people are like that hammer"
"They lost their head, yet they think they have glamour"
"You need to understand that some people aren't meant to be your friends"
"They're just only there for the good times and not for the bad ones near the end"
"You can't build with those type of people in life"
"They're dull as a bronze metal, and are less sharp than a knife"
"Just remember to bring your tool belt when you want to build a friendship"
"Have a crew ready for you, that is ready for any flip"
"If the ship is to sink, make sure they don't blink"
"But act from their will, and their power to think"
