Beyond the Risk

Azariah Ukaza has been fleeing from the Empire for as long as she can remember. Born to supporters of the Republic and her father being a Senator, put quite the large target on her back. It's been about ten years since the fall of the Republic and the Jedi, including the deaths of her parents, and the burn of rebellion still runs deep.

She was only fifteen when her mother shoved her into a closet in their Coruscant apartment, in time to hear blaster fire strike down her father and later see the flash of red that claimed her mother. She has no idea how she made it out of that apartment alive, or how the troopers didn't think to look for their only daughter, but she thanks the universe for that.

Most days.

Most days she still wonders why she of all people were sparred when they lost some of the galaxies best fighters, and how she could possibly make a difference, if any. The whispers of a rebellion have been spread throughout the markets, ports, and cantinas, but nobody dares to do anything more than that. That is until she meets a pilot who wants to prove her worth just as much as Azariah.

~~

"The Empire's plans will be located within their security room, downloaded onto their main halopad as per regulations. Az, take BD-29 with you to provide scans and to safe keep the drive until you can get it to Chop."

Azariah nods with her instructions, as her droid whirls from her shoulder ready to see something outside the ship. They've been tailing this ship for weeks after BD was able to find information that might provide the Rebels something to work with in figuring out the Empire's next move.

Was she expecting to be the one to get it?

Definitely not.

She's relatively new to this band of Rebels and sees the potential in the others over herself, but if they think she's up for it, she won't disappoint them. After the debrief is done, she makes her way towards the back of the ship, making sure she has everything ready and is waiting for her signal.

"Are you ready for this BD? It's our turn to take down the baddies." She smirks, her accent accentuating her excitement and drive.

Her droid returns the excitement as she gets the signal from the others and stealthily makes her way into the docking bay. With lethal movements, she gains access to a code pin, which lets her through the ship effortlessly and in no time she's found the main data base for the cruiser.

"I have a bad feeling about this BD..." She mutters as she notices not a single person in the room, almost making the job too easy..there's gotta be some sort of catch..right?

"You watch the doors while I get what we need alright?" BD confirms his job with a few beeps before moving from her sight, but still in range to be alerted.

"How's it going in there Az?" Hera comes through her comlink, and the anxious feeling seems to increase.

"I'm at the halopad, but nobody was in the room—"

"Well it should be easy then right?" Another member laughs from the coms to which she nervously breaths a laugh.

"I'm not so sure—"

Suddenly frantic beeping and whirling steal her attention from the downloading plans, icy terror crawling up her spine.

"What do you mean they're right down the hall?! You were supposed to be doing scans so this wouldn't happen!" She shouts at the droid muttering choice words at him while watching as the download finishes before she grabs the data key.

"Can you at least keep this safe?" The sassy response of her droid is drowned out by metallic footsteps heading in their direction as she places the key into BD-29's file drive.

"Zeb just had to open his big mouth..."

She mutters as she peaks around the corner, hoping for a clear escape path but having no such luck. Ducking quickly back into the room, BD shows her scans for the duct work and she sighs knowing that's her best option. The droid hops from her shoulder in front of the vent and makes quick work of the screws holding it in place. He lights the path ahead as she takes a deep breath and steals herself inside the duct, just in time to avoid being seen. Focusing on her droid ahead, Azariah tries to forget the fact she's in a very small, very dark air duct that hopefully won't lead to her demise on the other side..

Why is it always her in the small spaces?

BD finally stops ahead, beeping quietly as he's found an exit into an empty hallway that should hopefully lead them right to the hanger where their friends await the pickup signal. Making her way into the large space, she gasps for air thankful to finally be out of there and on their way out. BD finds his spot on her shoulder as she makes her way down the hall, and she's able to see the hanger through the glass, now it's just finding a trooper-free way to get there.

Her thoughts are cut short by the sound of blaster fire coming from behind her and narrowly missing her head in the first few shots. Picking up the pace, Azariah runs through the halls somehow avoiding being shot as BD tries to give her directions in her ear.

"'You won't need you blaster Az. It's a quick in and out, no worries.' Pft. Last time I ever listen to those nerf-herders again..." She mutters knowing that if she had just trusted her instincts and brought her blaster with her, this would be a much different altercation.

"BD, why do we always get ourselves in this mess?" She questions while quickly dodging another shot, but not anticipating a shot to ring out on her other side, successfully cutting through the flesh of her left arm. Hissing in pain, she reacts to grab the wound only making it worse so she releases it, but not before hearing her droid answer reminding her that this is her own fault. She rolls her eyes and grits out a threat to dismantle the thing before skirting around another corner, and quickly hiding behind another doorway from the troopers heading straight towards the hanger...

"That's bloody likely..." Finding no other route to the hanger, she makes her way behind the troopers she saw earlier, and ducts behind spice crates as she contemplates her next move.

"You know, anytime now you lot could come and get me!" She huffs only to get no response from her team.

Groaning in frustration, she moves from crate to crate trying to get as close to the rendezvous point as she can without getting shot again. BD beeps in warning just as she hears troopers enclose behind her, and as she readies herself to attack the nearest trooper, it gets shot down by an external shot.

"Yes!"

She shouts before quickly covering her own mouth, realizing the mistake as it happened and watching as numerous troops look in her direction... Getting up from her not-so-hidden spot, she begins to run towards the hanger seeing her team slowly begin to lower the ship as they continue to shoot at the troopers around her. Dodging blaster fire in both directions, she holds BD in her arms so he isn't blasted from her shoulder and everything be for nothing, just as she feels her hair being singed from another shot in that same spot.

"If we make it out of here BD....we need a vacation." She huffs and the droid agrees as they near the edge of the hanger. Jumping and ducking behind another crate of spice, she continues to watch the ship fire at the troopers waiting and hoping it lands before they can call in renforcements.

"Az! You're gonna have to jump!"

She hears Zeb shout as the door of the ship begins to lower, he fires at a couple troopers while he does so. It's still too far of a jump, there's no way any sane person, let alone her–especially with the wound in her arm, could make it... She works to find another option, quickly observing her area and unfortunately not finding anything suitable.

"Blast it..."

"Az! You're gonna wanna hurry it up!" She grumbles, giving up and knowing she's going to have to jump, and that's going to make her injury only worse.

"You ready BD?"

She places him back on her shoulder, and sprints to the edge of the hanger, praying to everything in the galaxy that she makes it across. Planting her feet at the edge, she pushes off with everything in her body and for the several seconds drifting in space, she was sure this was how it ends... That is until her hand is roughly grabbed by Kanan, and she's boosted aboard as the pain shoots through her injury.

"You alright Az?" Kanan asks as the doors finally shut and she lays on the floor, panting from exertion and pain.

"Next time, you lot can get shot at."

The crew around her laughs as BD-29 makes his way to Chopper and gives him the much earned plans, successfully ending the mission and sending this band of rebels onto the next one.
