Chapter 25: Stories And Confused Minds
They reached the school gates once again, it had only been twenty-four hours since he'd been here, but it seemed like ages! (tbh it has.) They both entered the school and Lilly looked over at Darra using her side glance. She had never really taken the effort to study his face, or him in general, yet it bugged her so much.
She grew a light blush on her face when she began to notice what she was doing and she quickly turned her head away, looking at the ground now. "Lilly watch out!-" Darra yelled as he grabbed onto Lilly's arm firmly and pulled her out of the way as they fell on the ground, Darra shielding Lilly when a ball was just about to hit her face.
The ball looked to be a basketball one, as it resembled it a lot. As it rolled, Darra noticed some sort of marking on it, and when the ball finally settled, Darra could see the name embroidered in it. It was Juan's ball. "Hey, you potato! Step away from my ball."
"Your ball that almost hit Lilly in the face! What are you doing with sports equipment on campus anyway?" Everyone around gasped.
No one's ever dared to speak back to Juan ever since...well...Peter Darnsworth...(who the hell is this?!?) "It's none of your business potatoes. Now grab your girlfriend and hop on out of here." Juan said as he towered over both the figures as they were lying on the floor. Darra stood up quicker than he expected almost jumping off the ground as he felt the temperature of his blood begin to rise, the adrenaline spreading through his body once again. He tried to calm his mind but all his attempts failed. He wasn't to blame for what was going to happen to Juan. "She's not my-"
"Let it go. Just...just come on l-lets go." Lilly said as Darra didn't notice her stand up. She held his hand and they both fled from the scenery. The fact that Lilly gripped onto Darra's hand like that brought him calmness and peace as he began to calm down, the rush of adrenaline soon fleeing away, but one thing disturbed him.
Darra knew that Lilly wasn't the type of girl to escape such a matter like that, so why would she do it? "Lilly why did you-"
"Shh! Not here, there're too many people." Lilly said, panicking and placing a finger on Darra's lips as she looked at him. Their eyes locked and it seemed like they'd be in that position forever. Darra began to grow red and tears formed in his eyes.
"What's wr-"
"mmhhh!!" Darra said- well, tried to say as he pointed in the direction of his foot. Lilly looked down to realize she had accidentally stepped on his foot. She removed it quicker than she expected and apologized a thousand times. "It's okay. It's okay." Darra said reassuringly that he didn't get hurt that much.
Lilly then grabbed Darra's hand and they made it to the 6 graders hallway. Everyone was in class doing morning prep since they had a big exam coming up and they couldn't afford to fail, since most of them repeated that year. They went into one of the janitor's closets and Lilly locked the door behind them.
Even though the halls were empty she still felt someone could eavesdrop on them, plus, there's no better place to tell your friend a secret than the janitor's closet! (take the advice kids). "What's all this about." Darra finally asked seeing as Lilly finally relaxed, though the worried look on her face didn't go away.
"It's about...P-p-peter Darns-s-worth." She stammered out, the names that rolled of her tongue seemed to bring a chill down her spine. "What about him?"
"First you need to promise me you will never talk back to Juan. EVER!"
"Why do I have to-"
"PROMISE ME!!" Lilly shouted. Whatever was going on, it seemed serious.
"I-I promise..." Darra said hesitantly. Lilly sighed heavily, a wave of relief flying through her, as she began to tell a tale that was buried deep down as far as this school's foundation. The tale of Peter Darnsworth.
"It was a normal day at Noah Academy, back in 1988, when "certain people" were at this school. Yes, they were bullies, but a new kid at this place soon stopped their rein, for a specific time that is. His name remains anonymous for no one really knew it-"
"Wait wait hold on. I thought his name was Peter Darnsworth."
"No. That was the name of his friend. Since no one knew his name they decided the story should be called that. I don't know how they knew the story would live till this day anyways, but they knew him as Justice King.
The sixth and seven graders of his school told us he was called this because he would deliver justice to those who were wronged. They also described him as the golden egg, or ocean eyes, mostly because he had blonde hair and blue eyes that sparkled like the ocean. Most of the girls used to crush him, and he was quite the popular one. Now he did use to fight the bullies, but not the main one.
They had their own agency, GDD, standing for "Good Doers Die" but the leader was always behind the shadows. To be honest, at that time, everyone was everyone's enemy, for you couldn't trust anyone, because the leader of GDD was among the people themselves.
Though everyone suspected it to be Peter from time to time since he was one of the quietest and didn't get as much attention as Justice King did. But Justice King would always stand up for him, saying that his best friend could never become a part of such a Dark association.
Over time, the two began to grow distant, seeing as Peter began to get jealous of Justice King. No one knew why, though everyone was against him. Peter became more and more depressed by the day, he even began drinking and smoking.
One day, Peter was accused of lighting a fire in the principles office, and all the evidence was stacked against him, the office was of course, in shambles and Peter's lighter was presented, burnt but still recognizable. Justice King, was now with everyone, saying Peter did indeed burn down the principal's office.
Peter was expelled from the school, and no one saw him the next day, but they didn't see Justice King either. The police went into a deep investigation of the matter and they soon found a body, lying by the shore of the pacific ocean two days after. The face of the body was unrecognizable but the shape of the body belonged to Justice King. They confirmed Justice King dead and Peter Darnsworth was never seen again, the police didn't find him."
Darra was shocked, his mouth hanging ajar, yet something still confused him. "What has this got to do with Juan anyways?"
"Peter Darnsworth is Juan's father." Time seemed to slow down as if it stopped. Juan is the son of a murderer and in this very school.
Darra had no idea what to think of this. It all made sense now, that's why Juan had so much power in this school because everyone was afraid of him. But did he not understand, the fact that his father was a murderer has ruined his future for good. Think about it, no one would want to hire the son of a murderer! This isn't the kind of story you should tell kids, it could bring them nightmares! (again, take the advice kids!)
Darra then began to hear a melody, a melody only he could hear, and fully remember. The same song he heard this morning. He began to panic 'Your blood is mine' His head began to repeat the words over and over again. He began breathing hard, his heart rate accelerating and his body heating up.
It all began to connect, the song to the story to Juan, yet he didn't understand anything at all. What did the story have to do with the song, and what was Juan's relation to all of this? If he even had a relation, what was he to gain? What was his aim? He suddenly felt dizzy and he was about to lose balance when Lilly caught him.
Suddenly everything began to slowly fade away, his vision began to clear and the song stopped playing. "Darra are you okay?" Lilly asked pure concern could be seen on her face. "Yeah I'm...I'm okay. We should probably get to class. We could be late."
"Your right. Let's go then."
Lilly unlocked the door and they run back to the lower section. (first grade-fifth grade) The halls were empty meaning everyone had to be in their respective classes. Lilly and Darra's class had Biology as the first subject.
"Why are you both late?" The Bios teacher asked as the two entered the class, hearing small laughs and whispers here and there in the room. "Well...uuuhh...y-you see w-w-we were-" Lilly began to speak as she stammered, looking for a good lie but nothing seemed to pop into her head.
It is at that moment when Darra thought Lilly was small and pure. Literally, the first person he met who didn't know how to lie! (besides him of course)
"It's okay, you may both sit down."
The teacher said as he directed them to their seats using his finger. "Let this be a warning though. Don't be late for my class again, otherwise..." The teacher warned them with a stern look on his face that made everyone in the class cringe. You wouldn't want to mess with that man.
The biology lesson went well, much better for Darra as he was beginning to understand plants better. He finally realized that plants breathe, and move, though not the entire body, of course, just certain parts.
"Plants are full of many wonders. They can be useful, at the same time harmful, but they hold much more than that..." Mr. Anderson began to speak as he stole a glance from Darra who was paying attention closely, 'You're a smart boy. I'm sure you'll catch on' He thought to himself as he smirked, watching Darra's eyes widen, slowly but surely.
Darra remembered the flower that began to suddenly grow right outside his window and all the weird things that happened to him and Lilly as he carried it with him like as if it contained much more than just carbon dioxide. Darra was at a loss for words for himself, and Lilly could notice that. The bios teacher continued to explain about the plant's systems but Darra just couldn't follow up, for his mind was somewhere else, somewhere far away, back to where he and Lilly got lost...It bothered him
He didn't understand
The flower, the song, the lake, Juan, everything was messed up, like mixed-up puzzle pieces on your bedroom floor
And he had no idea what to do about it
