Growing Pains
Here's my entry to WP_Poetry's April poetry contest. The requirements are to create a new poem that contains five of the following words:
Weather, Rainbow, Earth, Health, Foolishness, Humor, Embrace, Honesty, Sibling, Spring, Verdure, Rejuvenate, Awaken. (The bolded words are the one's I chose to use.)
GROWING PAINS
On humbled knees,
damp earth crumbles
from freshly pulled weeds.
Pensive trowel churns
dirt covered words
with red ember burns.
Foolishness pulls
overgrown roots
in angry handfuls.
Heartbroken holes,
left from pulled shoots,
stake sweetheart's paid tolls.
Spring rains tumble,
over verdure
in hands that stumble.
Gardening lovers
embrace, what are
weeds or are flowers—
Sprouts a duty
to tend one's own,
imperfect beauty.
